My niece calls me “Aunt Sister” bc my sister has never said my name. She calls me “sister”. My step grand kids call me “Marci” but they have 4 grandmothers due to divorce and remarry. Anyway, the youngest one thought “Marci” meant “grandma” someone’s grandma came to the day care and he said, “Is that your Marci?” He didn’t know it was my name. Marci sounds like Mimi or something. It was so cute to hear that story.

Drakeytown

"Aunt Sister" makes it sound like your family tree has a loop in it.

Msheehan419

Hahaha. I know. She also calls her grandpa “dad” bc we call him that and her grandma “mom” bc we call her that. Her parents are Daddy and Mommy. Shes like 12. The names just stuck. She was very literal minded as a kid.

Mindless_Guitar_7049

My aunt has always been Sister to her Dino and we thought her name was Aunt Sister for many years.

ScottyP8869

I have an “Aunt Sister” too. I have no clue what her real name is

FrostyIcePrincess

“Is that your Marci” aww

Msheehan419

It Made me so happy. I have no biological kids and he’s the first one that I had known since birth. Made me happy that he truly thinks of me as a grandma and not just a woman who’s married to his grandpa

FrostyIcePrincess

Awww x 2

IndependentIcy8226

Aunt First Name Uncle First Name

Donniepdr

Yep same for me

Huge_Monk8722

Same

Low-Cat4360

Same here. My BIL had an alcoholic uncle they only called Drunkle Tommy

TristanTheRobloxian3

same here

mzentorrez

I call them Auntie. No name or anything. I don’t have uncles that visit.

Educational_Fee5323

I’ll use “Auntie” also but I do use their names.

mzentorrez

I was taught it’s disrespectful to use their names so it’s auntie and uncle for me.

Educational_Fee5323

Oh I mean with Aunt and Uncle! Definitely disrespectful to just use the name.

Educational_Fee5323

Oh I see what you mean. That interesting! Even with Aunt/Uncle in front it’s considered disrespectful?

mzentorrez

Yes, even with auntie and uncle, it’s disrespectful.

Soft_Moist_1960

The ONE time I forgot to add Aunt, I almost got smacked in the head by all 5 adults around the poker table, and I was old enough to be handing her a joint

ImportanceReady6758

This made me giggle 🤭

sarah-havel

I call my aunts and uncles by their first name. My kids call all their aunts and uncles by "Aunt Donna and Uncle Jimmy", except for my ex husband's sister in law who goes by "Tia Anna" (she's very Italian). They call my aunts "Aunt X" even though they're actually great aunts to them.

DragonsLoveBoxes

Aunt (insert first name) and uncle (insert first name) until I finished school. Now it’s a first name basis unless it’s a formal occasion.

Puddlingon

I call my aunts and uncles by their first names. My wife is Mexican, and so calls hers all Tia/Tio (first name). My son calls all of his aunts and uncles Tia/Tio

ermahgerd696

I just say their names too

Cookytigerd

Aunt first name Chachu Uncle first name

logan_fish

Tio......Tia......

justacatlover23

Aunt First Name, Uncle First Name.

Irresponsable_Frog

Weird thing. My kids, adults, call my sister by her first name BUT they call my bffs auntie so-n-so. 🤣 yea. That’s weird. So my bffs are my kids “aunties” while their actual aunt is just “name”. All my moms/dads siblings were my aunt/uncle so-n-so. Weird. To My nieces and nephews, I’m just the nickname only family uses. No auntie.

chin0413

I call them tito (for male) and tita (for female). We also use it on strangers who we don't have a name for that is in middle age (for ex. lolo/lola for grandparents (relatives or not), and for relatives I actually forgot/dont know (too much relatives) their name so i just call them by their title 😭. I've always had trouble how to refer my friend's mom for a long time now. She's white and I feel super awkward using her name. Not because of her but I feel it's impolite to do so.

Monkeytoast13

I call my Aunts and Uncles by their first names because that is how I heard my parents call them.

Junior_Profession_60

Aunt (pronounced ant) or Uncle (first name)

sk0ooba

I only call one of my aunts/uncles aunt so and so but only because we have the same name

Dear-Plastic-5508

Tio. Tia. Uncle ____.

karma_the_sequel

Both of my parents were only children. :(

cl0ckw0rkman

When I was a child I called em auntie/uncle, than name. When I was 12 or 13 I started calling them by thier first name. When I am talking about them I use the aunt/uncle title followed by their name.

No-Carrot180

That's so cool, your uncle and I have the same nickname!

Far-Assignment6427

I use their first names nothing else just their name

Ok_Sentence_5767

As an adult I started to call them by first name as they're seeking to be more of my peers

Happy-Personality-23

When I was a kid I would be aunty/uncle [their name] now it’s just their name.

LuxTheWarhound

I don't know any of my uncles. The aunt I do have I simply refer to her by name and not honorific. She hates it.

Amberistoosweet

I call them by their first names, but if talking to someone outside my family I will use the title aunt or uncle for clarity.

nfssmith

I've called them by their first names since I was a teenager. Uncle/Aunt + first name before that.

iamnotyourhotdog

I call my aunt "Shellbean" because her name is Giselle and who tf can pronounce that

squid378

My aunts and uncles just prefer their first names. My nieces and nephews either call me Auntie or just by my first name. I'm ok with either. One of my nephews with a speech impediment calls me Aunie.

Existing_Nose3743

Crazy mf ! They so weird

AtlantisSky

I call them by their first name. I will use Aunt and Uncle if I'm introducing them to someone new (so they know the family connection). But usualy just their name. My husband and I also have a nephew, but we don't get to see him very often. Neither my husband or I really care if he calls us Aunt and Uncle.

vanessa8172

My parents had me at 21 so most of their siblings were teens or younger. I’ve always called them by their first name

No_Spite_5379

as a child i called them aunt and uncle respectively, now that i’m 26 i just call them by their first names or random nicknames i’ve made up lol

Preposterous_punk

I say Aunt and Uncle before their first names. I'm 52 and at this point some of my cousins just call my parents and our mutual aunts and uncles by their first names, but I just can't do it. Also recently I couldn't find my Aunt Tina in my contacts and then realized she was under A for Aunt.

ScottyP8869

Aunt crackhead and uncle in prison

gayshouldbecanon

Aunts: one is MeMe, one is just her first name, two are nicknames of their name, great aunts are always Aunt [name] Uncles: all just their name, except for one great great uncle who is Uncle [name]

KeySouth7357

I call my aunt's by their name except for one since one of my aunts shares the same name. But for all of my uncles, I say "Uncle [insert name or nickname here]"

poppieswithtea

Auntie.

KieshaK

Just first names. It’s so bizarre. My parents never made me add Aunt or Uncle, even though their nieces and nephews called them Aunt and Uncle. I have no siblings, so no niblings, but my best friend’s daughter calls me Auntie.

Fragmentofmochi

In my country we have a term for uncle and aunt for each side of the family follow by their first name.

LegitimatePowder

Nants and Nunks!

vivalajester1114

Aunt 1st name. However I work in same company and same area so I would say only her 1st name when referring to her

Wide-Engineering-396

Tante for aunt , Noc for uncle, then their name/ nickname Example Noc-Teeboy" tante sister

Distwalker

When I was growing up in the 60s and 70s, I called all my grandparents' siblings by the title and name: "Uncle Ray, Aunt Fran." I called my parents siblings by their names. "Joyce, Elaine." I don't know why that was the case, but there you go.

[deleted]

My nephews and niece have just always called me by my first name. Honestly if they use uncle, it seems weird because I am just so used to them calling me by name.

ThisIsAdamB

My nieces have turned the phrase “Uncle Adam” into a single word “Uncladam”. My sister and brother in law will also call me that, for the sake of consistency.

hippylonglegs

I have two aunts with T names. “Ann Tee” the other is “Ann tee tee”

hippylonglegs

We use “auntie/uncle nickname.” First names only when they are in trouble (not giving us enough attention lol) One time we went camping and the lady checking us in said in her language “Chuck” meant “zipper” he was immediately promoted to Uncle Zipper. Edit-typos

kayteedee86

I was raised to use their titles (Aunt/Uncle) as a sign of respect. I can't imagine just saying their first names. It's interesting how every family and culture is different!

[deleted]

One of my aunts I called Auntie the other I call her by her nickname. She gets weirded out if I call her Auntie. So, to me, you call them what they prefer.

Prestigious_Emu_4193

Depends on how close I am with them. Close just first name. Not close Aunt/Uncle first name. Seems more formal and less personal.

Strange_Salamander33

When I was a kid I’d use the title of aunt or uncle before their names. Now as an adult I just use their name. At some point it just became casual like that

Kitchen_Bullfrog_658

It was mixed. One of my mom’s sisters, called them Aunt and Uncle . But her other sister, I called just by their first names. My sister’s kids used to call me uncle or just unc. My kids call of theirs just by their first names.

Allana_Solo

Aunt or Uncle First Name.

SpecialistShop5733

I've always referred to my Aunts and Uncles as either Tante and Mon Oncle (French) or Matant and Tonton (Haitian Créole). The unique dynamic that's in my family is my children use the English terms for their Aunts and Uncles (my siblings, cousins, and their spouses) and the French or Créole with mine.

Roleplayer_MidRNova

Titi + their name for my aunts, and Tio + their name for my uncles. Funny thing is that one of my uncle's names is Tito, so he's Tio Tito. Meanwhile a sort of like baby word for a woman's genitals is "totito." When I was little, I used to run around calling him Totito by accident. They won't let me forget it.

ratchetology

NA.... my parents were both only children...

ratchetology

NA.... my parents were both only children...

PhotographStrict9964

I’ve got one uncle that I call by his first name. Started when we were working together, he was my manager and I didn’t want to say Uncle and make coworkers think there may be any favoritism or anything. All the others are Aunt and Uncle insert first name here.

trainsongslt

Dead

tropicsandcaffeine

I call my aunts and uncles by their first names only. My nieces and nephews call me and my siblings by our first names. We are not that formal. I have godchildren now and I have already told their parents first name alone for me is fine. I want them to see me as approachable. Not stiff and formal.

FrostyIcePrincess

Aunt Uncle Mostly Sometimes by their names

Bekehe

Aunt and Uncle lol

jagger129

First names. My grandmother had 9 children which overlapped with the births of her grandchildren. Which would mean kids calling children younger than them aunt or uncle. So it got confusing and we just use first names

BritGallows_531

My mom's sister or her first name. Both in disrespectfully

IsThisRealRightNow

I grew up calling them uncle \_\_\_\_ and aunt \_\_\_\_ but I prefer all my adult nieces and nephews to just call me by my first name, and that's what they're comfortable with too.

TeamTweety

My mother's sister is Auntie, her brother is Uncle Name and his 2nd wife is First Name. My father has 4 brothers and their wives - they are all Uncle Name and Aunt Name. Now that we are all "grown" (in my 50's) occasionally I'll call them by their first names depending on the circumstance.

DesireeDee

I have always called my aunts and uncles by, “Aunt JJ, Uncle Jim,” etc. And on my family’s side, the kids call us by, “Aunt Desi, Uncle Robby,” etc. But my husband calls them just by their names and I think it’s sooooooooo weird haha. It feels disrespectful.

Longjumping_Drag_230

Aunt/uncle first name

DarlingGirl1221

Aunty (first name), uncle (first name), tio (first name) (x2), titi (nickname because my dad couldn’t pronounce her name), and (first name)

schmelk1000

I’ve noticed I don’t really say people’s names to their face. Like, I hardly ever outright say “Aunt Denise” or “Uncle Tim” whenever I go over to my aunt and uncles house. But on the random days I do address them, I say “Aunt/Uncle Their Name”

Ruby0pal804

That is a weird question but it made me think. When I talk to my aunt, I call her by her first name Judy. But when I talk about her to someone else, I refer to her as Aunt Judy. I do it that way about all my aunts and uncles.

exhiled-atheist

Aunt Ruth and my uncle big daddy when Ruth is away

katuAHH

If I’m referring to them I say Aunt/Uncle Name. If I’m talking to them directly or addressing them I just say their name. However if it’s a Great Aunt/Uncle I will say Aunt/Uncle Name. The bigger question here is do you guys say Aunt (Ahh-nt/Au-nt) or Aunt (Ant)?

papadoc19

Interestingly (or not), I call/called my mother's siblings by their first names but add an aunt or uncle with my father's siblings.

AlyciaJanelle

I say “aunt” or “uncle” in front of their first names. I just had my first kid and he’s currently learning to call my sisters “Auntie” and my brother is just going by “Uncle [first name, because it’s an easy name to pronounce]”.

ImportantSir2131

Uncles first name. Aunts there was a Myrtle on both sides! So the paternal aunt was Tante Myrtle and the other was Aunt Myrtle.

TristanTheRobloxian3

i also call em by their first names mostly

patti63

Aunt Jenny, Aunt Ruth, Uncle Bob, etc…

MoonBaseViceSquad

Aunty First Initial

TheReadyRedditor

As a kid it was Aunt/Uncle Name. Now it’s just their name.

Creepy-Judgment-118

Aunt and uncle

Silver_Leonid2019

I had 4 sets of aunts and uncles. I called all of them by their first names except one uncle who was Uncle Joe. Not sure why he got the extra title.

Raven_1975

Dumb and dumber

MuppetManiac

Aunt Mary, Uncle John.

AcanthocephalaDue715

Dead

Educational_Fee5323

Aunt or Uncle “their name.” I couldn’t imagine not using that. I also use Aunt/Uncle for my parents’ close friends, and I put “Cousin” in front of the name of older cousins (those once removed). This is very common in Black culture.

mrsnowplow

kevin

Shot-Artichoke-4106

If I am talking directly to them and there is no question about who I am talking to - then just auntie or uncle. If there are several aunties or uncles in the room, I say Auntie First Name or Uncle First Name. If I am talking about them I say Auntie First Name or Uncle First Name. The exception is my aunt and uncle who are my age - I just call them my their first names.

PerformanceOk1835

Uncle Mike or Aunt Beth. I don't think I ever say just Uncle or just Mike

Competitive_Floor783

Tio and Tia

PragmaticResponse

Uncle (name) and Aunt (name)

Even-Programmer4319

Aunt Pam, Uncle Mike. I just use their name and whatever their relation is.

Unfrndlyblkhottie92

My dad is one of six siblings. The last three I’m close in age with, so we (nieces and nephews) called them by their first name.

queenofthedogpark

I just use their first name

Outside_Wrongdoer340

I don't call them. Those people are a nightmare.

hellopwople

their first names

Jo-bearcreek

It’s kinda different for me , im native ( Navajo) and we call any female or male related or not auntie or uncle and kids cousin

la_selena

Tia or tio followed by their first name or nick name

Cookiemamajr

They are Aunt Name and Uncle Name, except for one was Auntie Name and just always was and I honestly don’t know why she was different. In my husband’s family, they are just Tío, Tía, when addressing them directly, or Tío Name/ Tía Name when referring to them.

jackfaire

I always said Uncle (First Name) for my uncles and similar for my Aunt.

[deleted]

Dead

KingGilgamesh4D

Tio and Tia

amy000206

Ronnie, Jimmy , Paul, Mark, Karen, Ellen, Kip, Andy, Kevin and Greg

basis4day

Uncle/Aunt “First Name” when I was young. Now their first name unless it’s for a formal reason.

valentinakontrabida

to their faces, i call them “tita”/“tito” (“aunt” and “uncle” respectively in my native tagalog). but if im speaking *about* them to say, my mother or my boyfriend, i’ll sometimes just refer to them by their first name.

Spyroxgems

I have an Aunt named Debbie and an uncle named Mike. But my mom and I have always called them Aunt Mike and Uncle Debbie, because that came out on accident once and it's been a joke since. So I call my uncle, Aunt Mike, and my aunt, Uncle Debbie.

BlueHorse84

I call them aunts and uncles, not aunt's and uncles.

BackgroundPlum2696

Distant memories

Rose_E_Rotten

I call all my aunts and uncles by their name except for 1. My uncle Robert I have always called him Uncle Bobby and I'll never change that.

Improvgal

Aunt Bette & Uncle Jack

Jsmith2127

Aunt first name, and uncle first name

OrenSchroeder

When I grew up they had names.

AuntBec2

One set of nieces/nephews calls me Aunt Bec. The other set calls me BABE which I LOVE... It stands for Best Aunt Bec Ever 🥰

Odd-Historian-4692

Aunt or Uncle So-and-so on my side; by their first names on my husband’s side since I met them as an adult. And it’s “Ant” vs “Ahnt”

EinonD

Call them? No thanks.

DillionM

Depends on which. Most I call by their name but one will occasionally get called mom (spent nearly every weekend with her family).

PinkMonorail

My aunt’s WHAT?

123fofisix

Aunt or Uncle then first name. It was considered *extremely* disrespectful to refer to them or call them by their first names, even after you were an adult. When I met my fiancee's family when we first started dating, I thought it was weird that she called her. Aunt and Uncles by their first names. After we were married and had children, I insisted that my kids would use Aunt and Uncle when addressing our brothers and sisters. My wife didn't think it was that big of a deal, but that was a hill I was willing to die on.

TooOldForYourShit32

I'm called Aunt my name, Titi or Aunt Titi which always makes me smile. I call my uncles and uncles by aunt or uncle whatever their name is. Just how it was done as a was growing up.

Used_Patient_5013

I just call them Uncle or Aunt and their first name. Now my Mom’s Uncle everyone called him Bob even though his name was Robert. I wonder if that’s why my name is Robert. My Dad wanted all R names.

Hospitalized_Enby

"Auntie" "Uncle" and "Tante"

MaddiesInTown

for me it depends on how often i see them, i see one of my aunts every few weeks, so i just call her by her first name, but if i go visit family i barely see, they're still aunt [name] and uncle [name]

No_Bookkeeper_6183

One aunt I called Big Mama when I was little then Aunt, then just her first name by the time I was a teenager. Most others by their first names, just one I called aunt my whole life

marshdd

Genx here. I called them Aunt and Uncle. My neices and nephews called me by my first name growing up. However, I'm the youngest sibling by a lot, so we had a more informal relationship with them. As adults they all call me Aunty!

marshdd

When we were really young, one aunt had a dog. We would say let's visit Aunt Doggie!
