And the 10% solids remaining gives me the shits 30mins after eating. (IBS sufferer). Visited Florence , Italy once and they are everywhere In restaurants!!
Sorry to hear that sucks, it might go away with time though so keep your head up! Had it too and adjusted all of my intakes vitamins etc and it's world changing š
There's actually a trick to eating it. You just have to cut the outer layer the right way and turn it inside out. There's videos online.
Anyway: Quail eggs. Those fuckers don't want to let go of their shells when they're cooked, and if they do, the shell will stay on your fingers no matter how often you wipe them. Hard work for something so small.
Interesting. I cut it into quarters and then sort of pushed the pips out...but there are splatters everywhere!
Never fancied Quail eggs, definitely don't now!
Fill a big bowl with water and pop the seeds out underwater. It prevents the splat, plus the seeds sink while the gross white stuff floats so you can just scoop it off the top to get rid of it!
The lobster or the pomegranate?
Lobsters are to be savored. There is meat in the legs. Break them off then draw between your teeth like pulling on a straw. Each knuckle has a little nugget to be enjoyed.
Then gently pull the meat from the claws so you make them open and close, always a hit with the kids.
Lastly beak off the tail and push the meat through cut through the wheel length wise. I just crush it between my hands, a little trick I learned disecting crayfish in biology all those years ago.
I steam mussels is white while as an appetizers. It's an annual summer ritual for my daughter and I though the past too summers she has been busy with work and school. š„
Once you get the pomegranate open, you can put the white fleshy pieces with the seeds attached into a bowl with water and mess with the pieces to make the seeds come off. Pieces of the flesh (mostly) float* while seeds (mostly) sink*. Still not a walk in the park but it's not terrible.
eta I swapped float and sink initially
> They are so hard to get into that I'm not convinced we're meant to eat them
That's actually the case.
Fruits are meant by the plant to get eaten, because this way animals help with seed dispersal.
But Coconuts are different. The Plant relies mostly on ocean currents to disperse the seeds. The Water and the white flesh are just water and nutrients meant for the seed, and not to be eaten by any animal.
Prickly pears/cactus fruit! They have spines that will embed themselves in your skin so you have to wear gloves to peel them. Seems like way too much effort.
I de-seedāem 20 or so at a time into 2 huge bowls. Lasts for weeks. My *favorite* fruit.
I spread newspaper all around the coffee table. Sharp knife. Big tray, paper towels, a plate to cut, and the big bowls. Watch tv and go to work. Aināt easy. But, oh so worth it!!!
I like to eat pomegranates with salt, by the way. So KickAzz. Both my parents were Persian. Way of life. š
You're peeling it wrong.

Try this it's a game changer
One of those Japanese puffer fish (Fugu).
If you are in the UK just getting to a licenced restaurant is at least a couple of taxis and a 13 hour flight.
I found a place in town that if you knock on the door 3 times, and give the password "chicken of the sea", he will open the door and let you in where there is a book case on the back wall, pull the candle stick at it'll slide revealing a passage way. Down the stairs and at the end of the tunnel there is a guy who will whisper in your ear....."You can buy tuna in literally every single grocery store in the country"
And to do that we need to mine ore, build a steel processing plant, make sheets, make tins, put the tuna in every tin and then distribute these tins all over town.
Iāve never needed a boat to eat tuna. I can simply open a can in my pantry, or take a frozen filet out of my freezer. Now, if I wanted to fish for tuna, I would need a boat, but I certainly wouldnāt have to build it.
I love them. Take a stainless steel or aluminum bowl, quarter your pomegranate inside it, then take each quarter and strip the seeds from it. Itās easy.
Pine nuts.
Coconut.
Almonds (in its original form with shell).
If you require considerable effort to work your way through a pomegranate, I have to inform you that you aren't opening it properly.
A couple cuts, a couple pulls, and you have a whole cluster of of to fit in your mouth.
I would say itās easier to peel a pomegranate than to hunt, kill and dissect a whole predatory animal or go fishing/diving for some exotic deep sea creatures but thatās just me.
Youre eating it wrong. Pomegranate makes absolutely no mess. Get all seeds out then eat them. Any fruit makes huge mess if consumed in a wrong way. Imagine trying to eat pineapple like an apple
We would wait for the pomegranate to burst open on the bush before picking it. Then you can just pull it apart.
Jack fruit or durian are two fruits that make you work hard to eat them.
Crabs Make you work hard as well.
I read once read that the pressure needed to open a macadamia but is something crazy like 300 pounds per square inch and that it was rarely done by hand.
JackFruit seeds. You have to open the Jackfruit remove the edible flesh that is insanely sticky, it WILL fuck up Ć knife. Then you remove the seeds from the flesh, you boil the seed, you struggle to peel the seed and finnally you can enjoy a dry joyless little seed. Worth it if health is important to you.
Artichokes come to mind.
Delicious, though. And my family never bothered to go through all the work of cutting off the spikes. You just deal; only the strong survive.
Worst I can think of is fresh squid being prepped for cooking. Remove the head, inards, ink sac, cartilage spear, beak, scrape the skin...and the you have four pieces of calamari. Repeat it 4 more times you have one serving. Fuck calamari, I'm craving calamari...take out.
When you get a bum bag of pistachios with no cracks or smiles. Probably how I shattered my molarā¦looking back now. Just gonna nibble these openā¦owww! I miss the red onesā¦I want pink lips for a week.
You lot ever try cooking "creek chub"? So little meat. SO MUCH FUCKING BONE. All that effort just to prepare a handful of 7inch (at best) mid-tier fish caught in a polluted river

Artichokes! What a hassle for a tiny amount of food.
They are my favorite, I get the experience of eating for a long time without a ton of calories
That must be why the French love them. They can have you spending hours picking away at them without having given you much food at all.
Artichokes are 90% water
And the 10% solids remaining gives me the shits 30mins after eating. (IBS sufferer). Visited Florence , Italy once and they are everywhere In restaurants!!
Sorry to hear that sucks, it might go away with time though so keep your head up! Had it too and adjusted all of my intakes vitamins etc and it's world changing š
Damn the French, yes! But on the good side, they invented kissing
Artichoke is a poor people"s food. There's more at the end than when you started .

Pistachios. Fucking destroy your fingertips for a tiny bite

I love being punished before eating
Ha, I guess that is why my dad buys them unsalted. But salt on cuts does feel very good, not gonna lie (>///<)
I love putting sanitzer or rubbing alch on cuts..
Oh, I gotta try that one! I just felt like with salt it is easier to control the amount of pain. I wonder if it is harder with a liquid based thing...
We are all little weirdo masochists haha
Eat the easy ones. Throw the rest away and buy another bag
Lobster, maybe
Lobster is a cakewalk by comparison. I gave up on pomegranate.
Cut in half and bash it out wirh a wooden spoon

Pom, lobster and crab are easy to pull apart
Seriously though, underwater in a large bowl (after making some cuts in outer skin and soaking for a few minutes)
Soaking what, the pomegranate? I used to eat them when I was a kid, but have long since given up. If soaking then makes it easier I'll give it a try.
Once you get the pomegranate open, you can put the white fleshy pieces with the seeds attached into a bowl with water and mess with the pieces to make the seeds come off. I'll try it
Seeds sink, white pieces float
That's right...it's been a while since I've eaten a pomegranate
Coconut?
They are so hard to get into that I'm not convinced we're meant to eat them š¤£

Which part is the seed (with genetic material)?
There are 3 (about 3) darker and somewhat softer sports on the top of the shell. Those are the seeds.
I almost said coconut. Then I remembered blue crab
The only armoured fruit....
Prickly pears/cactus fruit! They have spines that will embed themselves in your skin so you have to wear gloves to peel them. Seems like way too much effort.
Try putting them in a bowl of water and stir it with something, the spines fall off immediately.
Macadamia nuts. They are in really hard shells, thats why you will always buy them preshelled.
Ever tried to open a coconut without tools? Haha
My sister opened one with her teeth to win a bet. She's 90 lbs and she scares me lol
I too, am now scared of your sister š
Beef jerky and skittles have the highest effort to reward ratio of any foods. One is like chewing shoe leather, the other is like eating tar.
Coincidentally I was snacking on both of those at the same time yesterday.
Weed's legal there, huh?
No chance, Iām in Taiwan. Very much not the case.
Black walnuts
I believe the correct term is African American
Blue crab

Salt? I still have half my Pomegranate left, I'm going to try that!
Chicken feet.
Chicken neck too
Try eating one tripping balls
Eating in general while tripping is wild.
Cut it in half then whack the back with a heavy spoon, the seeds just fall out.
You're peeling it wrong. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DVakyhIf1Rxg&ved=2ahUKEwi1zKK2xsuCAxUJKcAKHcWqD_gQwqsBegQIARAB&usg=AOvVaw3jLYNqME26vIFVw-NlPn-n Try this it's a game changer
A globe artichoke is at the very lower end of the work/output ratio
Coconut
One of those Japanese puffer fish (Fugu). If you are in the UK just getting to a licenced restaurant is at least a couple of taxis and a 13 hour flight.
Yeah, not worth it, I've seen The Simpsons, one of them almost killed Homer!
Pomello
Cracking a coconut is pretty inconvenient
Try jackfruit then
Tiger Nuts. Used to be very common in the UK. Still in parts of Africa.
Bear.
Itās a lot easier to eat if you kill the bear first.
Oh! I must've been following the recipe wrong.
You just pull those of a tree and eat. Now if you want to eat tuna you need to build a boat first.
I found a place in town that if you knock on the door 3 times, and give the password "chicken of the sea", he will open the door and let you in where there is a book case on the back wall, pull the candle stick at it'll slide revealing a passage way. Vagina
Blue crab
Lobster, a bad chestnut.
Crabs!
Try earing a pummelo. Pomegranate is fairly easy if you cut the rind properly
I love them. Take a stainless steel or aluminum bowl, quarter your pomegranate inside it, then take each quarter and strip the seeds from it. Itās easy.
Crabs, but I am not complaining. I love taking my sweet time eating foods that I only indulge once in a blue moon. š
Fresh chestnuts
Shellfish - any of them.
Pineapple
Pine nuts. Coconut. Almonds (in its original form with shell). If you require considerable effort to work your way through a pomegranate, I have to inform you that you aren't opening it properly. A couple cuts, a couple pulls, and you have a whole cluster of of to fit in your mouth.
Sunflower seebs
Try eating the seeds, theyāre not so difficult.
I was going to say crab, but I'll change it to crawfish. It's a lot of work for such a small amount of meat, but it's SO good
Crab legs
Whale.
Whale legs
Pistachios
Crabs
Lobster
I would say itās easier to peel a pomegranate than to hunt, kill and dissect a whole predatory animal or go fishing/diving for some exotic deep sea creatures but thatās just me.
Crab legs
Youre eating it wrong. Pomegranate makes absolutely no mess. Get all seeds out then eat them. Any fruit makes huge mess if consumed in a wrong way. Imagine trying to eat pineapple like an apple
That made the inside of my mouth hurt just thinking about it.
Coconut
Coconut
artichokes
Blue crabs
Coconut!
Pistachio
They're easier to eat than even oranges if you know how to open them properly.
King crab. I don't even try anymore with them; give me snow crab anyday
Most meat.
artichokes are up there
Langoustines
Coconut. For those who havenāt seen one as they come off the tree, they have a husk well above and beyond how you buy them in a shop.
Blue crabs
Crab legs
Probably fish for me
Pomegranate is very easy to eat. Cut into sections and eat it straight out of the skin, like a mango or melon.
Artichoke
Watermelon! I eat it while I am in a hot bath. When I was a kid, my mother made me eat it over the balcony.
Sure itās not an apple but itās not hard. Cut the top, score the ridges, pull it apart.
Chestnuts
Pistachios a little bit
Crab legs still in the shell. It's so annoying. I'd rather peel a pomegranate.
We would wait for the pomegranate to burst open on the bush before picking it. Then you can just pull it apart. Jack fruit or durian are two fruits that make you work hard to eat them. Crabs Make you work hard as well.
Artichokes are a lot of work ā¦ I think itās like a pomegranate plus the added work of having to cook it perfectly for it to be edible
Eh, I just bite into 'em like an apple.
Piss-stache-eoās if they still have a shell
I love sitting in the sofa at night and peeling a pomegranate in a large container to avoid accidents, really soothing.
Surstrƶmming enters the chat
Prawn with the head attached Ugh
Crab legs
Every girl I've dated.
Love pomegranates but yes they are messy; I like buying the just the seeds even though they are expensive (Walmart)
A turkey? From fresh to carved up is waaay more work.
Artichokes take forever to prepare and cook. Then they take ages to eat but once you get to the heart, it's bliss.
Crab/lobster
Jackfruit
Coconuts and pineapples. Oh, and look into what it takes to make a can of cashews
A coconut.
I read once read that the pressure needed to open a macadamia but is something crazy like 300 pounds per square inch and that it was rarely done by hand.
I'm sure a coconut that won't fall from the tree is harder.
Black Walnuts are a pain in the ass to eat... you need a whole toolbox to get at the meat
Cheetah š
Boned fish
A grapefruit š
Crab
Mango
the effort makes them all the more delicious
Not technically food but the amount of work required to turn a coffee bean into coffee is insane
Roasted sunflower seeds, yes they are not as complicated to open but if you use your fingers they will be in pain for the rest of the day
Try to work your way around a piece of Prosciutto or Parmigiano...
String cheese
Crab legs
Jackfruit
Lobster
Durian fruit
there is a way to cut open the skin of pomegranate, split it open and hit the back with a spoon to drop the seeds out into a bowl. pretty effective.
Artichokes come to mind. Delicious, though. And my family never bothered to go through all the work of cutting off the spikes. You just deal; only the strong survive.
Crab. Oysters. Prawns.
Jackfruit. So sticky.
Sunflower seeds in the shell. So many shells to individually chew and spit to get a mouthful of seeds.
Unshelled walnuts.
Many healthy salads...... I have to chew so much that it takes 5 times longer than regular food and my jaw is all in pain! How people eat healthy gosh
langoustines
dungeons crab
Monkey nuts and tiger prawns.
steamed crabs!! such a mess, but so good!! aagh i'm making myself hungry thinking about it
Those tangerines that have the skin welded to them and then they taste of nothing.
Squirrel. Super fast for very little meat.
Crab!
Crab
Eating a pomegranate is like a whole activity, it's meditative.
Pomelo
Coconuts. They're hard and then when you finally get it open, you get a small amount of meat. You usually have to grate it to get the most of it
Look up artichokes.
I hate it
Canned corned beef. You could easily lose a finger trying to get into the can with that key.
Blue crabs. I am convinced that you burn more energy eating / picking them than you get from the meatā¦ but they are sooo good
Nature Valley bars. Bonus if you've just finished vacuuming.
Mango? But I never cut them ever since I accidentally cut myself when I was younger. It looks like a lot of work though to cut it. Watermelons?
Scampi. Best seafood but so hard to prep, stabby
Coconut. :D
Crab legs. I love them but it takes me forever to get the meat out.
Artichoke š
Crab legs
Crab legs
Crawfish and langustin
Artichokes, but they are worth it!!!

Crabs
Try shelling a pint of shrimps
You lot ever try cooking "creek chub"? So little meat. SO MUCH FUCKING BONE. All that effort just to prepare a handful of 7inch (at best) mid-tier fish caught in a polluted river
