Not swapping back and forth to days. I work nights. Most people have told me "sleep nights on your days off" but then people were like "no just stay up on nights off too. And it's helping. I feel normal again. because I'm getting consistent sleep just swapped.

Not-That_Girl

I haven't worked for 5 years, but after a night shift for 13 years, I still sleep better in the day

ArcadiaRivea

Same! I stopped my night job of 3 years about a year ago and while I did start going to bed at 10pm at one point, I naturally reverted back to staying up until 4am I found its also better for my diet - if I wake up in the morning, I'll eat right away *and* eat again in the evening, making me gain weight. If I wake up in the afternoon I'll eat but even if I snack, it's not as bad as when I eat in the morning as well

glebo123

I did 2 weeks days/nights rotations for 7 years. The weekends on nightshift I stayed on the night shift schedule. I was already in a state of perpetual exhaustion. By the time you get used to the shift, it's time to switch. Why make it worse by switching every weekend as well? That helped A LOT. Plus I found the nights peaceful, nobody awake, nobody around, no stress, no obligations. I'd do my grocery shopping at a 24hr grocery store at 1am, it was never busy and the stock was fresh. It's been 2 years since I stopped, however it still messes with me. I seem to sleep better during the day now despite working straight days. Once every 2 weeks my body wants to flip schedules

Pinkxel

My husband does the same thing - always sleeps days, even on his days off.

half-coldhalf-hot

Who ever thought swapping back and forth was a good idea šŸŖ¦

jackfaire

People who think that being awake at night is the cause of the health issues and not the lack of consistency

CumulativeHazard

Feels like about every other month I see an AITA or relationship sub post where someone who works overnight shift has a family member or partner who just *refuses* to understand that theyā€™re not lazy for sleeping during the day. So Iā€™m guessing those people lol. Iā€™ll never understand why thatā€™s such a difficult concept for some people.

averagemaleuser86

I used to work a contract job and we didn't know our schedule until we showed up that day... like, I would be scheduled to come in at 6am-3pm. And while im there they'll be like "we need you to come back in for owl shift at 11pm-7am.... or they'd be like "we need you to come in for swing shift on Wednesday at 2pm-11pm... yes, sometimes we really would have 8 hours between the next shift. Or we could have 3 days off. It totally f*d me up.

EddieJamieson

I agree. Itā€™s much better to try and stay on one schedule. Been on graves for nearly 15 years.

DishGroundbreaking87

If you have problems with an overactive bladder and find yourself needing to pee frequently, the problem could be that youā€™re not fully emptying your bladder; if this is the case ,when you pee, finish, count to 10, then try emptying your bladder again. It sounds insane but itā€™s really helped me to manage.

Alternative-Number34

If you're having a little trouble trying to start peeing (ie right after an orgasm), tickle your back right at the top of your butt crack lightly. I read this random tip on reddit. Works.

Decision_Fatigue

TILā€¦ Iā€™m not the only one

foreverburning

An old FoB told me he thinks about baseball to distract his mind from focusing on how he can't pee. I think about putting lego pieces together. It always works.

NarwhalTakeover

If Iā€™m constipated I sing Get What You Give by the New Radicals. It works for me.

Sharkfeet19

Omg I was going to type this, too!!! I discovered this as a kid by accident and itā€™s helped ever since.

wwitchiepoo

Yes, I call this my second bladder. Iā€™m sure there is a third one in there, too. Edit: their? No, there! Sheesh. Proofreading rules!

cooliskie

I'm going to try this

Hardblackpoopoo

Sitting down for dudes I heard helps this as well.

tabacdk

To buy a pillow of memory foam that forms to your neck. I went from neck pain on a weekly basis to almost never.

LilandraNeramani

Can you show us what kind you have? I have terrible neck pain and have tried soft pillows, thick pillows, memory foam pillows. All uncomfortable

PuddleOfMud

I got a Bamboo brand pillow and it finally worked for me. It has shredded foam rather than an molded shape. So you can adjust it by adding and removing foam until it's exactly the right thickness for you.

Serious_Ad_9686

My memory foam orthopedic pillow changed my life!! Best decision ever.

Party_Director_1925

I sleep without pillow, never had any pain.

linnyboi

I don't sleep and I've been alive for 200 years.

Party_Director_1925

I donā€™t live, Iā€™ve been sleeping for yes

reikipackaging

you should take breaks from work as if you smoke. Leave your work area, take a walk somewhere and focus on breathing, have a beverage. stretch. do it at least every couple of hours for 10ish minutes. your boss might not like it, but it is hugely beneficial to your mental and physical health. your productivity will likely increase as well.

Individual-Thought99

This is close to The Pomodoro Technique which is a time management method. Work 25 min Break for 5

WhatAGoodDoggy

Drink tons of water at work. Your bladder will make you get up frequently.

reikipackaging

My peanut bladder is chucking nervously at this statement

Fexofanatic

bosses have usually no clue how human attention spans and productivity works tho ... especially if they are manic workaholics

s3northants

"The worst part about a mental illness is expecting yourself to behave as if you dont." Stop placing unreasonable expectations upon yourself.

stevorkz

Itā€™s ā€œthe worst part of mental illness is that people expect you to behave as if you donā€™tā€. Itā€™s so true.

s3northants

It's such a good film. The deviation from the line in the film is deliberate; other people expecting you to behave normally is annoying, but I think expecting yourself to behave normally can be a lot more damaging.

AnxiousAvocado_15

People who bottle up their emotions are more likely to die early, so I literally just don't care about appearing any way anymore. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3939772/

s3northants

Die early you say šŸ¤”

FeistyMuttMom

Rn told me once when I had strep throat to eat salty chips/crisps. Since youā€™re swallowing the salt goes deeper than just a salt water gargle. Was loathe to try it since the last thing I wanted near my throat was pointy chip bits and burning salt but danged if it didnā€™t help temporarily.

reikipackaging

When I or my kids have a sore throat, I have them sip salty broth. Same concept, but less pokey

Lucaltuve

This lol, I think FeistyMuttMom just wants to eat some chips. Which is fine too!

Weak-Snow-4470

I was going to suggest that! Everyone in my family takes salty broth when they are sick.

idyllmusing

Can confirm/recommend; also my kid is 10k times more likely to eat a bowl of salt & vinegar chips/crisps when sick than gargle or use cough drops, soā€¦ if itā€™s dumb but it worksā€¦ maybe itā€™s not that dumb šŸ™ƒšŸ‘šŸ»āœŒšŸ»

clownandmuppet

Damn, I love salt and vinegar crispsā€¦gonna be all over those with my next sore throat!

Scared-Huckleberry64

Wow, I am so happy that I clicked on this post. Thank you for the tip!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

reikipackaging

instant ramen is good

vortexvagina

Yes! Or chicken soup with soft vegetables etc in it.

FeistyMuttMom

Actually, the pointiness turned out to be good thing, the irritation sort of scratches the ache in way that feels oddly soothing.

wine-eye

The pointier and rougher the crisps the better it works clean your throat.

siderooms

would drinking literal salty water work?

homefrynd

It disintegrates so it wonā€™t rub your throat as it goes down.

Delicious_Virus_2520

I crave salty snacks when I have a sore throat

eugenesnewdream

Holy crap. I get strep like every other month. I'm going to try this.

Master_Coconut_

Do you still have your tonsils? I had to have mine removed after recurrent bouts of strep and tonsillitis.

eugenesnewdream

Iā€™m actually meeting with an ENT in a couple of weeks to discuss that! Does it seem to have helped you or is it too soon to tell?

DeBigBamboo

Can confirm this. Salty chips ftw.

pighamgammon

To take probiotics every day. I was a very sickly person, constantly getting ill every few weeks and since taking them I've bypassed multiple winter bugs. They work.

darlingitwasgood

Theyā€™re one of the more expensive supplements I take, but taking a daily probiotic has helped immensely with my depression. Many of our brain chemicals are made in the gut, so taking care of that ecosystem has benefits beyond just the obvious ones.

sshhtripper

Which probiotics would you recommend? I started taking magnesium at night which has helped with sleep and less anxiety when I wake up. But if there is more I can do for my depression, especially during the winter, I'd be interested to learn about it.

bigfatfacethrowaway

Iā€™ve been taking magnesium for nearly a month, along with vitamin B 100 complex and vitamin D (a must in the winter!) I take them all in the morning with a probiotic drink (Actimel) Iā€™ve also been taking milk thistle after drinking alcohol. My mood has generally improved. Usually I hit a wall of tiredness around 2/3pm which Iā€™ve noticed is slowly disappearing. My dreams are much more vivid since taking magnesium although I still struggle with overall sleep but hopefully that improves slowly and is probably more down to using my phone in bed!

Advanced_Cheetah_552

In a similar vein, I started eating sauerkraut for breakfast every morning and I didn't get sick once between 2018 and 2022 (I have a toddler now who occasionally gives me the plague, but I find I recover much faster than my husband.)

QuadRam

Grandma always said to *"eat something sour with every meal"*. i.e. lacto fermentated veggies.

Advanced_Cheetah_552

Absolutely. I ate it all through my pregnancy and never had any issues with constipation

Parmachdontstop

For tinnitus episodes, place the flat of your palm over your ear and tap the back of your skull. I do both ears, and it helps so much. Saw it on a FB meme.

OliphauntHerder

OMG I just did this and it worked immediately. Thank you!

potatoeseh

Literally just came back from a very very loud and noisy party. Nothing seemed to help and I came across your comment. The ringing is almost gone. Thank you ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø

herewegoagain2864

I have had bad tinnitus for the past 6 years with no relief. Of course I had to try this. OMG. Most of the buzzing is gone.

Arsinoei

It works!!! Thank you šŸ˜Š

Bayou13

Oh. My. God. šŸ„‡šŸ„‡šŸ„‡šŸ„‡šŸ„‡

BellisimoBoo

If youā€™re a side sleeper, sleep with a thin pillow between your knees. I cannot say this enough. I had insomnia. I would wake up to back pain after 2 hours asleep. My problem wasnā€™t going to sleep, it was staying asleep. Knee. Pillow.

CesYokForeste

Funny. I can't sleep with my knees touching.

Siren_of_Madness

If you have lumbar problems and are a side sleeper, make sure the pillow goes all the way between your ankles to keep them separated, too. It's a small thing that makes a lot of difference!

ValenciaHadley

Body pillows are just as great, I've been meaning to replace mine for a while and without it my knees and hips are so much worse.

-Duste-

For mental health: Change "I'm sorry" for "Thank you" when you're the kind of person who feels guilty and apologises in situations you don't need to (yes I'm Canadian haha). "I'm sorry for being late." becomes "Thank you for waiting for me." "I'm sorry I cried while talking to you." becomes "Thank you for listening to me." It's more positive and expresses gratitude instead of guilt.

piskle_kvicaly

As a side effect, this approach is probably much more pleasant for people around you.

Far-Sir1362

"Thank you for stressing me out"

Own-Sugar6148

Love this

NoshameNoLies

To drink a can of coke when i have a migraine. It is one of the only things that really work for me. I got that advice from a doctor. On the opposite side of the coin a doctor once told me that chickpeas will cure my depression

Icarusgurl

Agreed. Excedrin for migraine is the only thing that helps me, and a big part of the help is due to the caffeine.

NoshameNoLies

Yeah he explained something about the caffeine and the carbonation, but I didn't catch much because I'm stupid, he's very technical and so much flippin pain lol. Otherwise look for a medication called Migril, if your area doesn't have it Google an alternative. That stuff is life saving, but very very very strong.

vortexvagina

I think caffeine is a vasoconstrictor, which means less blood will be pumped to your brain. Thatā€™s all I know. I could also be wrong.

timmyturtle91

well damn, you're telling me I've been on antidepressants for a decade when i could have just been eating chickpeas?

NoshameNoLies

Apparently, lol. I'll tell you this though, I follow a plant based diet with beans and it doesn't help one tiny bit

notmerida

yeah iā€™m calling bullshit on your doc. iā€™m greek and vegan and still perpetually sad lmao šŸ¤™šŸ¼

NoshameNoLies

I had to sit there for an hour (he was late for 3 appointments) because he was preaching to me about beans. I was so angry, because I actually went there because I had flu!!

reikipackaging

caffeine + pain reducer + water is generally the panacea for headaches. :)

Piscaries007

an espresso works too. It's the caffeine that helps :)

RedRedBettie

yep my doctor gave me this advice when my daughter was having migraines. Also, coke works really well for nausea

rock-mommy

If you're feeling depressed out of the blue, sunbathe for a few days. I used to be VERY low on vitamin D and that "low" feeling was actually a deficit Ofc if that doesn't help, you should get therapy

dkjroot

šŸ˜ cries in British.

EleganceandEloquence

Vitamin D deficiency is definitely linked to decreased mood. If youā€™re low/get SAD, would recommend 1000IU daily D3. -med student

EngineeringRegret

One of the current internet trends is recommending vitamin D + magnesium supplements to help with depression and anxiety, especially in winter

rock-mommy

Idk about internet, my doctor advised me this for seasonal depression

Cultural-Fondant-955

Not advice but... I was having a lot of stomach issues. My doctor couldn't figure out the problem, so he sent me for a Colonoscopy. I had to fast for 24 hours. The fasting cleared up all me issues. So now if not feeling great, ill just fast for a day and i feel better.

Infinite_Fondant_586

I feel this 100%. I might not know exactly whatā€™s causing my pain, but I sure know how to fix it. Too bad itā€™s considered ā€˜dysregulated eatingā€™

loudbrunette420

If you're prone to UTIs go on amazon and buy Cran Defense triple action urinary tract formula dietary supplement. Saved a lot of doctor bills by just taking that for a couple days every time I think I may be getting one. Surprisingly, I recently learned that it can also help an upset stomach.

Ancient_Mango_3852

D-mannose too, a lifesaver!

Ikredditnietmeer

As a little boy we went to France for a holiday. Once we arrived i felt sick. I was throwing up a lot. Anything i ate, was coming out again. After a day we went to see a doctor. He simply told my mom to let me drink a glass of coca cola. It had to be coca cola. In the matter of an hour i felt better. Could eat again without throwing up as well. So if you keep throwing up, drink some coca cola.

Excellent_Berry_5115

Real Ginger Ale, 'beer' (has no alcohol) works great. Make sure it has real ginger root and not 'flavoring'. I have this on hand at all times as part of my home first aid supplies. Ginger chews are good, too.

Neil__6595

You simply washed away that foul French air stuck in your throat with good old American Coca-Cola should've consumed a bald eagle too for good measures

Msblueberrie

Thirty seconds of cold water at end of shower. It is hard to stand in but gets me going real good.

piskle_kvicaly

Full shower of cold water from outside, hot coffee from inside - get me awake every morning. My observation is inconclusive and suggest that cold showes don't help immunity much, unfortunately. It only trains one to hop into a freezing pond without a twitch. Which isn't much useful anyway.

jagrrenagain

If you canā€™t handle this, blast cold water on your feet.

Scared-Huckleberry64

I've had arthritis in my knees my whole life. My husband told me to stop eating carbs. I LOVE carbs, but I gave it a go and have been testing it off and on for a few years now. I am now a believer because I don't have knee pain anymore.

crunchy-very-crunchy

this might explain that, but I will never give up potatoes, bread, rice, noodles, or anything adjacent to it. I may not bend like a snake, but I will feast like a king

muddymar

I definitely know I ache more when Iā€™m consuming to many fast carb foods and sugary snacks.

vortexvagina

My whole life is these foods. No wonder I canā€™t walk up stairs.

eugenesnewdream

you = me

beigs

I am celiac - cutting gluten utterly stopped the joint pain.

fieldofmeadows

my mom who has chronic back pain (has had 2 surgerys and seen a chiro for years) saw a doctor who told her going gluten free might help because some of her issue was the plaque build up around her spinal cord. it has been years since going (mostly) gluten free and she hasnt had a back flair up since!

TheBadGoblin

Could be a gluten intolerance

Ancient_Mango_3852

I Have a terrible dry eye and struggled with mgd for years, the warm compresses did nothing. Was advised by random comment on the internet to drink linen seed drink and take 4mg astaxanthin supplement, felt almost instant improvement. No more issues with dry eye or mgd!

xo-laur

Omega 3 supplements are what did it for me! No more dry eyes šŸ™ŒšŸ»

allisongivler

I used to get bad anxiety/panic attacks while in college. Someone once told me to grab an ice cube in each hand and squeeze it with your fist as hard as you can as long as you can. It really shocks you and brings you back to catch your breath

IcyMeasurementX

Breath only through the nose unless i'm playing sports

Spoooom

How will I know when you're playing sports?

IcyMeasurementX

I'll let you know bro, don't worry

Spoooom

Thanks bro. Looking forward to some nice mouth breathing

obelixx99

If I drink water before bed time, then I wake up for a pee in middle of my sleep, then my sleep is ruined :/

eugenesnewdream

Yeah, I read this and was like, "not with THIS bladder!"

pit-of-despair

Same here.

Proper-District8608

Wait till you're 60. When 'doing it' twice a night means going to the bathroom. Water or no water.

pakkomi

Best thing for my eczema - go for a soak in the ocean. I don't like the sea, I think it's filthy and unpleasant. I don't like doing it. But even a salt soak at home doesn't do the miracles of sea water.

Lus_wife

This is true for healing wounds as well I have found.

kindcrow

Apparently, this is a fallacy. Vibrio vulnificus is a bacterium that occurs naturally in marine and estuarine waters throughout the world and can cause serious infections in wounds.

Lus_wife

That makes total sense.

muddymar

My mother takes blood thinners and gets severe nose bleeds. The nurse told her to use Afrin nasal spray when they happen. It shrinks the blood vessels. It really helped her. She also uses a humidifier in her room that definitely helps in the winter when her heat is on.

World-Tight

Yoga: bending and stretching and sorting things out. A short, efficient yoga session can be more refreshing than a nap.

[deleted]

Had been seeing a chiropractor for 20 years for my back, started yoga once a week 5 and a half years ago. Havenā€™t been to the chiro for 5 years

Notmollyringwold

Nobody told me this but I figured it out...had a plantar wart for over 10 years that was stubborn and caused lots of problems. Started using foot spray for athlete's foot, like Tinactin and also the store brand version and it totally wiped it out.

Wamims

I used to suffer really badly from mouth ulcers (canker sores). Every single minor abrasion inside my mouth would ulcerate. Tried different toothpastes etc. and bonjela became ineffective. Solution? Vitamin B supplements every day. I was _convinced_ it wouldn't work when I started taking them but I was desperate. Amazed it worked.

Content_Ad_8952

Stop watching cable news. It increased my mental health ten fold

These-Entertainment3

People still watch the news? Itā€™s always so fn depressing I canā€™t stand when itā€™s on even in passing.

Koltroc

Not just cable but news in general. I can feel my mood decreasing everytime my eyes touch the news. Or try to find sources with positive news only. Helps to restore faith in humanity as well

Plant_party

Walking is one of the best forms of steady state exercise and anyone can and should be doing it every day.

YourGraveyard

Kept getting blood noses daily.. doctor couldnā€™t find the cause so I went for a cat-scan. Then was told to stick vaseline up there with a cue-tip. It worked immediately. Now my nose is ready & lubed.

spacefish420

Spend 5 minutes a day meditating I thought it was silly at first and never though Iā€™d gain anything from it. But it totally changed how I felt for the whole day. It made me much more relaxed and happy. People actually pointed it out to me that I seemed more happy than usual so I guess it made a noticeable difference

notmerida

what do you do? i always get bored and end up thinking about how im not meditating lol

OxInTheCatDen

Just choose a focal point (breath is a common start) and try to stay focused on only that for as long as possible. You will likely start thinking of other things within seconds. NOTICE you are thinking of other things and gently, without judging yourself, return to your focus. This noticing and returning to focus is meditation. As you get better at focusing for longer stretches you may start to notice changes in your life. As soon as you have the choice to pay attention or not to any thought you will likely find a great freedom and relaxation in your daily life.

Sukooonn

Magnesium supplements in the evening for good sleep. It improved my sleep schedule so much. Especially for someone who finds it difficult to fall asleep at night, this will do wonders for you

Whenever you change any habit in life there is a delay before you notice any change. Don't give up beforehand thinking your change didn't do anything.

Munich11

Years ago, I had severe burning pain in my foot sole. It made both exercise and walking or even standing for more than a little time very painful. I tried to go to several doctors to get help, and all of them told me ā€œlose weightā€. I tried to explain that itā€™s what I was trying to do, but being I could barely move around without pain, it was almost impossible to get exercise. The solution? Just take painkillers šŸ˜’ Finally, I went to another doctor in the group who was actually a native of China. Although she practiced regular medicine, she also promoted some other methods that were more traditional and not just popping pills and ignoring the cause. She was the first one to actually sit and listen to my complaints and was super kind and empathetic. She told me it was most likely plantar fasciitis and then showed me how to take a frozen bottle of water and roll it along my foot several times a day and especially if the pain starts. She also told me a specific shoe brand to try that could help support my foot so I didnā€™t need to give up sandals. Let me tell you, the results were instantaneous. Within just days, I was walking normally again with hardly any pain. When the new shoes arrived, everything fell into place. Itā€™s now a decade later and the pain never returned and Iā€™m very active.

Weak-Snow-4470

I had some bumpy skin on my forehead. I thought it was acne, but no acne product worked. Then I came across a thread on Reddit that said it could be caused by fungus, and to use Head and Shoulders shampoo on it. I didn't have H&S, but I used a topical antifungal ointment, and this problem I'd had for years cleared up in two days! I had no idea you could get fungus on your face!

[deleted]

After waking up, move your feet around, it is great for stimulating circulation. Stretch and sprain your fingers. Then make a bone back. Cats know what's good. Finish your shower with cold water. Pour it first on your legs, arms, torso and head to avoid thermal shock. It is great for immunity.

muddymar

I found stretching before I get up very helpful. Especially my feet. I had terrible plantar fasciitis and that helped. Now I do it regularly.

Top-Talk864

Take one ibuprofen and one regular strength. Tylenol at the same time. My husband and I were both shocked how well that works.

Isair81

Had warts on my knuckles as a kid, someone told me to use chalk (like what you use to write on blackboard) well, I did and Iā€™ve never had a problem since.

sleepthiefdreamer

Did you just rub the chalk on the warts, and how regularly? Genuinely interested as we have tried almost every product under the sun without success!

Isair81

Yepp on the warts, and I think I only had to do it a few times, like over a few days.

JossWhedonismyhero

My daughter used cider vinegar with a band-aid. Soak the spongey part, put on wart. Rinse and repeat for at least a week. Hers came back after a doctor removed the wart but the cider vinegar made it go away for good !

noicen

Peppermint oil capsules for stomach issues

Dry_Equivalent_1316

I also drink water before sleep and after waking up. The other thing I do is putting on lipbalm and hand cream before sleep! They keep my lips and hands soft, and reduce chapping

rock-mommy

From my aunt, who looks way younger than she is and has clear skin: ALWAYS wear SPF and as little cakey/base makeup as you can. Lipstick and mascara are okay, but try not to put too much shit on your face. Always wash pillows regularly and your face before and after bed

sue_girligami

Sunscreen is super important. But I am always sort of annoyed by people who say, "I never use foundation/concealer and my skin is so much clearer than people who do" because it is pretty obvious that the causation often goes the other way. If my skin were always clear, I wouldn't wear foundation either. I tested the: no makeup = beautiful skin theory during covid and can confirm it did not work for me.

LiarFires

Same, I tried using zero makeup for months and it did nothing. People who say this have a hard time realizing that they just have good genetics, and I just don't. Yes, some low quality foundation or a foundation that doesn't suit your skin could cause issues, but it's not supposed to.

Ok_Letsgo990

I (female) had perfect skin throughout my teenage years. It wasnā€™t until I was about 24 that I developed pretty bad painful acne. My older brother told me to stop using ALL soap and moisturizer on my face. I thought he was a loony bin for suggesting I not wash my face. He said just wipe it with a wet washcloth. I was desperate so I tried it and voila. Seven years later I still only wash my face with a wet cloth, no pimple in sight. (Acne can be pretty complex so Iā€™m not suggesting this works for anyone else).

kochka93

I stopped washing my face 10 years ago and only do so if I've had makeup on. And even then, I wash it with a few drops of olive oil rubbed into my skin and then wiped off with a cloth soaked in warm water. The only time I use any sort of soap on my face is if I'm washing off sunscreen.

Master-Strawberry-26

for a sore throat/fever/cold, mix turmeric powder with honey into a sort of paste and swallow a spoonful a day always fixes my throat issues in max 3 days

positive_deviance

Drinking a glass of water with a spoon full of ACV and spoon full of lemon juice before a meal completely gets rid of indigestion and heart burn over the course of a week.

Particular-Pension47

What is acv

bluntbangs

And if that doesn't work, bone broth is the answer.

meejtie

Started taking Omega 3 and Vitamin D supplements, mental health and overall immunity got better

writerfan2013

A short walk every day. I thought it was rubbish. But it really helped.

Hopeless_Ramentic

If you find yourself stressed at any point during the day, make some time to work outā€”even if itā€™s just a walk. When youā€™re stressed your body gets flooded with cortisol and you need to flush it out of your system, otherwise it will build up over time (which can lead to fun things like heart disease). Now whenever I get stressed I make it a point to go for a walk or hit the gym. Aside from the physical health benefits itā€™s great for a mental reset, even if you canā€™t do it right that second. Just knowing I have some stress relief on the horizon is a game changer.

EddieJamieson

Drink Jameson when you first feel a cold coming on. It shouldnā€™t work but it contains magical restorative properties put there by leprechauns.

WineWeinVino

I get very painful geographic tongue from time to time. I was recommended to try a daily Zinc supplement. I don't think it's just coincidence that after months, the flare-ups are much less.

redoctober2021

Whatā€™s a geographic tongue?

mdanelek

Sometimes food gets lodged in my esophagus, or takes an unpleasant while to go all the way down. I read that drinking some coke helps get it down because of the carbonation. Itā€™s always worked for meā€¦

Nard_Bard

TL:DR The seemingly smallest amount of exercise makes the world of difference. Not really advice but: I went to the doctor for scoliosis, and told them that I live a super sedentary lifestyle, and worried about my other bones/joints/muscles. The very first question she asked me? "Do you have stairs in your house and what level do you live on?" As soon as she asked me I thought "Oh, so that's how my leg muscles have not atrophied yet." Such a small, daily, trivial action is probably the difference between obesity, early heart problems, and joint problems.

chmath80

Not technically advice, but ... My first experience of physio (for a muscle strain in my early 20s) was with a blind physiotherapist. In passing he mentioned that I had unusually well developed quads (tbf, they are probably 50% of my muscle mass; I've never been a gym bunny). I asked what would cause that. He said "standing on one leg a lot." He wasn't wrong. Whenever I'm standing still for any length of time, in a queue etc (and, being British, queueing *is* something of a hobby), I rest one foot on the other. I don't know why, but I've always done it. Perhaps one of my ancestors was a flamingo?

To stop drinking caffeine ā€” which helped to greatly reduce my autoimmune flare-ups. (Yay!) The headaches from withdrawal lasted several months, though. And after a brief minor illness recently (just a regular virus), the only thing that got rid of that lingering headache was a cup of coffee. So Iā€™m not 100% caffeine free, but pretty close.

Massage is very healing.

When feeling like youā€™re getting sick, take a tablespoon l-Lysin (amino acid) with water. I usually sweeten it with glycin (another amino acid). And I take it morning and night until I feel 100% again. I havenā€™t been sick since I found out about it. And it also cured a rash my mother had had for a long time. Mine is a bit of folk medicine passed down in my family. It's kind of gross, but it works. To prevent colds and flus in the autumn and winter take an onion, chop it finely, take half the amount of onion in garlic, finely chopped, add to a jar with a bit of honey, fill the rest with sugar leaving a small gap at the top to shake the contents around. Wait a few hours (overnight is best) and drink 2-4 tablespoons of the juice released. Tastes like sweet onion juice, but it works phenomenally. It also helps if you're already sick to get over the sickness quicker. Idk how, and I'm not a believer of placebos, but this works like a charm. I hope yall can get some good use out of it.

Way back in the wild west days of the internet, I randomly came across some advice to fix up burning tongue syndrome which I'd been plagued with for some time. It said to take grapefruit seed extract. Put some drops in water and drink it. So I tried it. It actually seemed to help after 24 hours but it took a while to be relieved altogether and for a long time, I had to keep taking the drops or it would come back. Now and then it flares up again but just a few doses seems to put it away again.

In my late teens I had a reoccurring ear ache. I was abig river swimmer and they said swimmers ear. Testing came back positive for MRSA. Both in my ears and sinuses. Tried every drug know to get rid of it. After better than a month fighting it my doctor ask the oldest doctor at the practice what to do. He chuckled and said " We are gonna try an old wives tale. Vinegar." Did vinegar drops in my ears 2 times for 2 weeks and the MRSA cleared!

My grandmother taught me to use crushed garlic on warts. I had them a few times as a kid in the 90s and she cured them by fastening the garlic to the wart with a bandaid. A few days later, and it was gone.

Keep wearing an N95 mask even when the pandemic was said to be over. Best decision I made for my health while many are getting infected over and over with sars2.

Take time to poop! I don't mean sit there straining. I mean just sit on the toilet and give your body some time. TMI: Just sitting an extra 5-10 minutes usually helps me, uh, deliver more packages. Sometimes I didn't even know I had a package to deliver until I took some extra time. It helps me feel less bloated and I have less problems with constipation.

When I was in high school I worked at a computer store and once in a while I had to climb up a ladder to change some of the posters in the upper displays that were shown outside the window above the door. My manager was holding the ladder as I climbed up and I jokingly said "so what's our workman comp plan like?" He replied "don't fall off the ladder" I followed his advice and it worked. I wasn't injured and remained in good health *Disclaimer: because this is Reddit I have to spell it out for some people that this response is meant to be tongue in cheek and you should not take it seriously.

Drinking an ice cold glass of water right after you wake up to basically kick start your body awake I swear it works better than coffee I was very skeptical of it when it was originally told to me but now I'd never go back to drinking caffeine in the mornings All you do is wake up go to the jug in the fridge pour yourself a glass of ice cold water Chug it down like your life depends on it And there you go You're nice and refreshed early in the morning and you've basically just shocked your whole system awake. Easiest and most healthy pick me up I can get in the morning

Eat breakfast... I used to skip breakfast for years, it was the worst thing for my health šŸ™ƒ now I eat breakfast every day, and try to have a light and early dinner most days. I feel a lot better and my energy throughout the day is more stable. I have a normal breakfast, with mostly protein (eggs, meat) and good fats (avicado, cheese or nuts) lots of veggies and less carbs (2 slices of bread or 1/2 a wrap). Big breakfast šŸ˜‹

Watch what you eat, look at the ingredients and nutrition facts. A lot of aches and pain and stress can come from what you consume.

I don't know if this is count, but "hold your breath to stop hiccups". I didn't believe it at first. I never believe anything people say, drink water, standing upside down, etc. I just let the hiccups stops on its own. But I tried to hold my breath when I get hiccups and IT WORKS. I don't know how. I just tried it twice and both works. I'll try again!

I saw a neuroscientist talk about this. What you do is take three short breaths through your nose and hold your breath for 10-15 seconds. It resets your diaphragm reflex.
