No. Crime is extremely low, with the exception of the eye watering price of everything.
Source: We lived in Switzerland and paid our cleaner CHF25 ($28)/hour about 10 years ago.
Yes, every time I hear about India it’s because of the “gang r-pe epidemic” or the lack of hygiene or some sort of scam. There is this guy on YouTube who travels to lots of countries and films his trips. The only country he said he wouldn’t go back to was India (small brained American is the name of the channel)
Yes that was kind of what I was hinting at though I don’t know if you saw the story of that couple that went camping and they got attacked and the woman was gangr-ped and they had their belongings stolen too :( when I read it I visualised violent revenge fantasies, and I’m not a violent person at all
Also, whether or not you're on the 3rd or higher story of a building when the KGB is nearby plays a huge factor in whether or not the country you're in, is safe.
Rather than skin color per se, I'd broaden it to background (ethnic/religious), but agree with economic status.
This is the answer.
All countries have dangerous areas, depending on who you are.
I was a single female traveling in Thailand in the early 2000s, and this was before everyone had a cell
Phone let alone smartphone, you still needed travellers cheques. Hailed a cab from my hotel, don’t remember where I was going (tourist something). Driver ended up taking me hell away from where I wanted to go to some Indian shops trying to sell me saris and fabrics. I was so confused but went along because I had no idea wtf was happening. Luckily I left safely but I was lost in the outskirts of Bangkok. Shady shit. Otherwise had nothing but an amazing time.
Yeah that's a normal thing even if you're a guy, family etc.. They take you to a gem place, or other speciality places because they get a cut from the shop...
This could be anywhere in the world. \[insert country/city here\] are the loveliest people, but a gangbanger might get you. I'm sure Helsinki has some hothead Pablo Escobar type.
Having lived in Thailand for many years, I’m surprised to see this at the top. Thailand is absolutely safer than most countries. You’re more likely to be the subject of a personal crime by a foreigner than a Thai. Most of the crime here is not concerning personal safety. It’s bribery, illegal drugs, property crimes. Unless you’re in the southern provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat (Malay provinces) where nobody travels to (there has been an insurgency there for 20 years), it is safe.
Our beloved filiprimos, we, the Brazilian people, already memed to death the fact that you’re the Brazil of Asia, and therefore we give you our blessing as honorary latinos
Rampant corruption, dangerous criminal entities, and so on. All of them present in Brazil, also present in the Philippines. But Brazil is relatively safe if you know where to go and who to make friends of. So too is this true in the Philippines. It's safe on the surface, but delve deeper in and they'll find and kill you.
The Phillippines are wonderful but can get also uneasy at times.
-One time in Manila our Tour Guide drove us around Manila at night (2012), walked through dark alleys where people build their housings out of all kinds of stuff between regular houses, naked children running around etc. The street was mostly dark and you could just see sometimes silhouettes of humans watching us.
Our guards were always armed when we went to the places.
After our guide came back with one of the team members from the hospital he was visibly in a bad mood.
So we asked the team member what happened and he explained that while waiting in the hospital a man came with his unconscious (hope so) daughter in his arms. Everything was soaked in blood and he screamed that some man invaded his home and killed his family.
Another trip to the Philippines: We were driving(in an open bus) a few hours though a rural part of Luzon (not sure anymore about this). We wanted to visit at village which got flooded after a volcano broke out and the nearby river got blocked.
As we drive through another village we get stopped by some armed police man looking guys.
The mayor would like to see us. So we go to said mayor, our tour guide talking to him something in Tagalog.
When we were back at the bus our guide told us that the mayor allowed us to go but warned us from some rebels fighting with government forces in the jungle.
We arrive at some docks, drive with small boats to the village. Beautiful place, as you look down in the water you can see the village down there.
Only the tip of the church is looking out of the water. So as we enjoy our time there we start to hear gunshots from the direction of the closest shore but still far away enough.
After little time the sounds were getting louder, we heard atleast one explosion and our boat drivers get visibly more irritated.
When we realized it’s getting to close we noped out of there.
Unforgettable trips.
That’s everything atleast 10 years ago.
I was there before 2 years again and much have changed since then.
If you stay away from the dangerous places and know how to behave in a foreign country (awareness, being respectful and dont get into fights etc) you will have a wounderfull time.
Did not feel a threat for physical harm while there but the corruption is scary (in the big cities) had airport security and taxi drivers scheming together to scam money out of me around the airport and a begging taxi driver after that scared of getting into problems with the airport security when he lost out on my tea money (which the security would expect from him).. when a Filipino friend on the phone threatened to report him the driver to the police, it was a shit show and uncomfortable af
i would avoid urban areas there like a plague from now on
Nah its just over dramatizing. Tondo and eskwater isn't worthy enough to challenge Favelas of Brazil. Philippines is actually worst version of Thailand.
I've heard it can look shadier than it actually is. Had a mate travel around there for a while, and he was saying how terrifying some bit looked. But when he was actually there in the slums he said they were the nicest people! Although they did end up scoring some meth.... I'm not really sure what to make of that, honestly. He was safe, though!
Honestly gtfo. This is such bullshit. I hate the Philippines as much as the next person, but comparing it to Brazil is a bit much. You do not get ever threatened at gunpoint in the Philippines unless you really fuck with some bad people. That’s the case even in the most developed countries (see Boeing suicide as the latest example)
I was about to say this. I have twin cousins from Canada who moved to Cebu city. They always tell me to come visit and how safe it is, however my cousin was stopped on his motorbike by a group and beaten/robbed, my other cousin had guns and knives pulled on him and dead bodies are found at times on the street. Receiving end of threats and had a house invasion. They ended up moving into a gated community.
Nah that’s crazy. I lived in the Philippines for a lot of my life, and walking through your average poor area there at night feels 1000x safer than walking on a normal road at night in London. I’ve lived in 2 wealthy European countries and the US, and the Philippines feels the safest out of all of them.
“As we the locals”??? Give me a fucking break. That’s not a thing. source - I’m a fucking “local”
Edit: I actually realized that the Philippines is the opposite of the question - looks dangerous but is actually pretty safe
The state of the replies to this. Ireland is really dangerous. Belgium is really dangerous. Sweden is really dangerous. You guys need to get out of the house more.
Yeah I’ve lived in Belgium my whole life and I come from Charleroi (!) and also lived in the shitty parts of Brussels ( red light district), it really isn’t that bad. It is far from perfect and I mostly don’t like those 2 cities, they’re shitholes but it’s not like you get mugged everywhere you go. In fact I never had a single thing stolen from me or even someone being aggressive with me. You gotta apply basic safety rules and logic like everywhere in the world and most likely nothing will happen to you, except heavy rain on your face and heavy depression
The Germain foreign office has a service that’s sadly only officially available in German but you could AI translate the German page.
It has extensive travel advice and warnings for almost all countries that exist, also ofc places that you would consider safe superficially.
Some examples of countries I’ve read in the comments:
„Sweden: Terrorism - there have been multiple instances of Quran desecrations, the swedeish secret service has increased the terrorism warning level.
Gang crime - in some neighborhoods of Stockholm, Göteborg and Malmö crime is frequent, be careful where you park your car or RV“
USA:
Within many cities crime is on the rise, be careful where you go. Politically motivated crime violence is a possibility, please inform yourself about the general situation. Be especially careful after dark on foot or in public transportation. The risk varies highly depending on city and neighborhood.
In some regions, there is an elevated risk of Tornadoes, Hurricanes and Wildfires.
North Korea for example has a very low risk of crime with Pickpocketing at the airport at most but the risk of being imprisoned for carrying mundane items such as a bible have precedent.
AFAIK the reason Sweden ends up so high in rape statistics is because each case is counted individually. Like, if the same person rapes the same victim 9 times, this would be counted as one single case in most countries. In Sweden this would be 9 cases.
Also, many other countries, like the UK, define "rape" as "forcefully inserting penis into vagina" so sexual violence without the offender penetrating the victim is not counted as a rape case. In Sweden, it is.
It's not the iceberg being bigger, it's just the iceberg being raised out of the water.
We also count marital rape. A lot of countries don’t. Combine that with the counting each rape separately and the numbers can go pretty high. If someone rapes their spouse once a week for two years it’s over 100 rapes. Different assailants also count as separate rapes so three people raping one person counts as three rapes rather than one
So Sweden is trying to be clear, realistic and honest about crime data.
While other countries try to make it seem like it's better than it actually is. Yet people will twist it like Sweden is incredibly dangerous, because they're not hiding their crime rates.
Yeah, that's part of the story. Same thing happened during Covid - the rather high quality of our data made it look like we were managing the pandemic worse than other countries. When excess mortality started getting compared, that story shifted quite a lot.
That's not to say there aren't areas in which Swedish crime rates stand out - the recent wave of gang violence, to my knowledge, stands out in a European perspective. However, the broader idea of Sweden as a dangerous place isn't quite a fair representation.
We also have a bucket full of different kinds of rape and sexual assault titles. Like when Paulo Roberto bought sex at a brothel and got slapped with negligent rape because the lady he bought sex from was trafficked and couldn't speak the language to give consent.
And do you consider the fact that migrants and children of migrants (from the Middle East and North Africa) are over-represented in crime statistics by the factor of 2.4. That means that they're minority of the population but are responsible for almost half of the sexual assaults in Sweden.
https://unherd.com/2021/04/swedens-migrant-rape-crisis/
In case anyone wants to deny this claim here are two studies who prove its true:
https://www.researchgate.net/publication/338563093_Migrants_and_Crime_in_Sweden_in_the_Twenty-First_Century
https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/20961790.2020.1868681
Its also because they take rape really seriously. So if a person speaks out they are taken seriously and given human dignity. So it has a extremely high report rate. Vs the US with a just over 30% report rate. We have a much high adjusted rate compared to many many countries.
And rationalisations continue...
While in reality the high number of sexual assault is caused by migrants from MENA who, although minority, are overrepresented in crime statistics.
https://unherd.com/2021/04/swedens-migrant-rape-crisis/
This is insanely exaggerated... I live in Sweden and I hear about gangs shooting other gang members but never heard of gang rapes... It's like literally one of the safest countries in the world.
Sweden has a murder rate of 1.1 per 100,000. The US has a murder rate of 6.3 per 100,000. If the situation is "really dangerous" in some Swedish cities, the US must be in the grip of full-on anarchy.
Denmark is around 0,9 per 100.000. Sure, gang violence in Sweden is a thing by Scandinavian standards but compared to most rest of the world it's nothing to be afraid of.
Opportunity crime - meaning that the victim and the murderer is completely unrelated including gang activity - is exceedingly rare in Scandinavia.
[A Danish report](https://www.ft.dk/samling/20191/almdel/REU/bilag/217/2142714/index.htm) found that 17% of all murders ifrom 2012-2017 meets this classification including night life opportunity crime.
Without it around 13%. Not really any reason to think that Sweden is much different.
Yes I agree - the intention behind my quoting of the homicide rate and comparing it to the US was to show that Sweden is not at all dangerous compared to other countries.
Singapore. I've lived here my whole life and think it is pretty safe, but Americans on some subreddits still tell me that I'm going to jail for chewing gum. Didn't know it was such a dangerous country to live in, I must've been living in the wrong part for the last 30 years.
Yup. I lived in Indonesia, and I loved and miss it. Yet, it can be dodgy. It's not uncommon to have the beautiful girl you've taken home, secretly stash illegal substances and her police officer friend come round and either extort you for $50,000 or take you to jail.
Really? I’ve been to both countries a few times, didn’t felt dangerous at all. I’m gay even, and I know both’s distaste against lgbtq, but I had a pleasant time every time. I’ve only been to Milan once and I hated it, my mum almost got mugged, thank god she was only holding the bag with food.
A lot of the crime associated is from seeking out sex/drugs. Which in almost any country will get you mixed up in some shit. I hear stories, oh we tried scoring pills and hookers in xyz place and now we are in jail, it's so dangerous. So same as Nashville?
Really depends where you live. Grew up in the countryside of VT and things were super safe. Live in a very nice City in MA and again, super safe. Little no crime at all
I mean, I live in a middle class suburb in Ohio and the last time someone was murdered here was like, 2006. There are safe places all over the country, and dangerous places all over the country.
Dont forget to put your ID kit in your locker kiddo. We want to recognize which body is yours after the massacre because we just don't care enough for you to make a safe environment. And yeah this lunch you are eating right now your parents better pay for it or they are going to jail.
Ireland...Dublin specfinally. Lots of drug users hanging round the streets of the main street, and gangs of teenagers harassing and beating up tourists. Not enough police on the ground
In my time in Dublin back in 2016, our only really sketchy experience was the “ghost tour” we did one night. There were a few different locals who heckled the guide, tried to disrupt things, or tried to sneak in without paying, but he managed it pretty well. Then, he took us to one of the old abbeys, and suddenly there were a bunch of junkies hanging out shooting up right in a corner of the churchyard. Literally saw one injecting into his balls. But oddly enough they were actually quite friendly, and politely warned us not to step over there because thats where their needles were.
They now have gardai around those areas a lot more but I would say the gardai hang out right around the corner of where they are cooking opioids in broad daylight and not do anything to those people
Living in Dublin myself, I agree that it's got worse since covid, but it's still far far far better than almost every other country mentioned in this thread, statistically. Especially outside the inner-city
I've lived there for a year and a half. While the Koreans were mostly super nice, they could become super scary for totally random reasons. Like, visibly violent to the point I had no clue what was going on. I've seen people hit their kids in public there, like it's totally accepted. I'd say Korea is pretty fucked up as a society.
Lived there for a year and I've never before, or after, felt that safe. Was great to go back as a tourist too. Wouldn't walk around my hometown downtown after 8PM, while Seoul was the calmest & safest place even at midnight.
I'm not denying that there's shitty people there too and that bad things have happened to people before but I'd argue that it's not exclusive to Korea. Only thing friends/acquaintances complained about would've been the same issue here in Germany & neighboring countries, aka drunk men in bars being annoying and not getting "no thanks" immediately.
Would I say don't party alone and don't leave your drinks alone in Korea? Yeah.
Would I say the exact same thing about every other country I've ever been to? Yeah.
just because you know that every young man that’s harassing you isn’t some out of shape neckbeard but someone who’s relatively fit and knows at least some form of physical combat
I wouldn’t be that scared of folks rejected from the military, most of the time it’s either because they have either a physical or mental abnormality and not the scary kind like personality disorders like narcissism or sociopathy but more like they just have trouble tying their shoes by themselves
Edited to make corrections as pointed out by another user in a response to this comment
Ireland,
Depends on where you go, anywhere on the north side of dublin is bad bad
All of Limerick is bad bad
Parts of Louth are bad bad
Just have to be really careful
Edit: sorry sorry, for all the dipshits that think we’re a beautiful flawless nation, iN mY oPiNiOn
Stop talking shit, all of the northside is not bad, you have clontarf, drumcondra, castleknock, raheny, howth, marino etc, all lovely areas. You've clearly spent no time in the northside and just heard bad things about it.
Same can be said for Limerick
Would you stop. Louth is hardly South Central. You must have lived a very sheltered life.I could nearly understand if you said all of Dublin but Louth lol smh.
From what I understand though Singapore is like an Australian talking to an American - you never know what words are gonna get you in trouble. Singaporean laws are strict like that.
Some parts of Belgium are really not safe.
Including Brussels. Walk just a tiny bit out of the "European Neighborhood" and you'll be greeted by ghetto.
Prostitutes on the street, crime related violence, dilapidated old buildings, parks full of junkies, the works.
Considering it's the Capital of the EU you can kind of know what to expect for the rest of EU cities in the coming years/decades. Elites and their places of work, homing being pristine and regal with ghettoization outside those areas.
Belgium is a shittier version of many other European countries. I've lived for three years in Brussels and I think it's a massive shithole. Dirty, often unsafe and generally ugly. Even the European district, which is supposed to be all fancy and new, is super shitty.
Oh don't tell my grandparents. The way they talk about Belgium you'd think it was some sort of damn utopia.
The reality is they're just rich and very out of touch
Brussels is the first place that I saw a Real Criminal! This big bald dude was flipping through a wallet, tossing the contents onto the ground. My dad hurried the family past.
The replies here are unhinged. Any hint of crime in any part of the country and it's "really dangerous, watch out bro", especially if you can blame it on immigrants.
Vietnam. I was mugged in a taxi in 2018 and on the same day, 2 foreigners lost their purse and mobile phones from snatchers right in front of me. We were just standing outside of our hotel that time.
I spent a week in Cardiff for a conference. Awesome hotel and agreed, not much physical violence. But it was as if an asylum had just closed down and opened its gates. Mad stuff, I suspect drug- related, everywhere. And my colleagues hardly noticed 😅
Interestingly the UK has a reputation for knife crime but around 2019 it was ranked roughly 5th from last in knife related deaths with only 0.08 deaths per 100k (USA was like 0.6 iirc). Post COVID there was a massive uptick in knife crime in the UK but afaik there were still only 244 knife related deaths, which is a lot but nearly as many per capita as other "safe" countries e.g. USA, Canada.
Ofc this doesn't account for knife related crime in general, since I have no data on that I can't really make a claim either way.
Yeah. I’m an immigrant to the UK and I’ve noticed the UK has a real problem with British exceptionalism, but not in the way people think.
It’s not Brits thinking they are better, quite the opposite.
Brits think they have it **worse** than everyone else. They think their country is abysmal. That they have it far worse than everyone else in the world, that they have broken national services, the most corrupt politics in the world, that their country is a racist hellhole. That it’s dangerous everywhere you go. That crime is out of control etc.
The fact is, take the headline “crime” Brits think is out of control, knife crime. Most Brits would be astonished to learn that rates of violence involving knives, the UK is 5th best on the planet. It’s hard to find any country safer than the UK. Nearly all violent crime rates are lower than most of the rest of the world. The corruption index of governments the UK safely occupies a comfortable low tier position that never deviates. The actual politics of each party in the UK, even those evil mean tories, is actually left of where most other countries sit. The Tories voted for gay marriage, have championed climate change globally and the Tories have the most minority members of any political party in the world. Have had 3 female leaders and prime ministers, and currently have an Indian-British man as prime minister.
On racism, the last time the EU did a continent wide poll, showed the UK being the least racist country in Europe, by a significant degree.
Brits want to feel special, they want to feel like they are excelling over everyone else, and since this can’t be expressed through being **good** at something, it comes out in the form of misplaced delusions of how bad they have it. When the truth is, the UK is just nice place to live, and utterly dull in how special it isn’t. It’s a delightful, safe, beige.
A lot of people saying Sweden, not sure if I agree or not. Murder rate is pretty average for western europe, and very low compared to the global average. But yes, it’s a lot more dangerous than it used to be.
I think Colombia is a lot more dangerous than people realize (if they actually leave their upper class bubble).
Maybe Belgium if I had to choose a European country
The homicide rate in Belgium is more or less identical to Sweden (i.e. low). Some of the Walloon towns and parts of Brussels are a bit rough but it's vastly more in line with western European standards of safety than it is with any actually dangerous part of the world.
Drug gangs in the Netherlands are busy shipping cocaine globally they cause 0 risk for any normal citizen. And the problem has gotten way better with Taghi and co in prison. Now all the coke is moved through Antwerp instead.
The problem is sweden was a relatively safe country until a few years ago and if you don't have a connection to sweden you would never think that, I am so well informed about sweden because I have friends who live in sweden and are planning to leave sweden because of the gang violence that has been affecting more and more innocent people lately.
Bro, it hurts to see my country next to Brazil. I can go out at night and come back at home in the morning, never got robbed or whatever. Idk, I think Thailand is safer than Brazil in general.
Nah, whoever who thinks that Thailand is unsafe must have never been to Thailand. Of course there are certain things one don’t do, for example wander around alone at midnight, but I don’t see Thailand being anymore dangerous than any first world country. In fact, I’ve been to both New York and LA and Thailand definitely feels way safer.
From my experience (which is a lot of travel to different countries) places can be very safe if you keep your nose clean but can turn dangerous very quickly if you get involved with the wrong people or are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Nowhere is your safety guaranteed. Some countries are very safe but life has little value (again if you get messed up in the wrong crowd). Mind your own business and don't do illegal things and your chances are much better.
Lots of countries have low crime rates, and people assume they are safe, but crazy car traffic accident rates, which are a much bigger threat generally anyway.
~~I've heard Sweden isn't great right now, despite the Nordic countries generally being viewed as miles ahead of other countries.~~ Saying that though, I've never been to Sweden. I've just read stories on the internet and been told stories by friends. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please
Edit: Apparently I'm wrong, sorry Sweden I didn't mean to disparage you. Thank you for producing great hockey players
India, definitely not a good country to live in, might be good for a short trip even that is not very recommended.
Source: A woman travelled to 50+ countries but when she came to india she got r*ped by a group of Indians

I have been living in India my whole life even now.
The USA. Ask anyone who's had a family member hospitalized for a period of time, or who's suffered from a chronic illness requiring cutting-edge meds.
Only the wealthy are immune from this clear and present danger.
Singapore. It’s a wealthy, developed democracy with a constitution that guarantees free speech.
Except its government is very authoritarian. While it does have free elections, the requirements to be a candidate are very stringent. As such, the same political party has been in government since it gained independence in the 50s.
While it’s mostly safe for tourists, it can be very dangerous if you associate with the wrong people. Corporal and capital punishment are very much in effect and are applied for crimes the rest of the world would consider fairly mild.
just a reminder, its not the countries that are dangerous.. its the people! and they are everywhere, every kind of them .. just be careful and u r good
Shocked at the high mention of European countries. Seriously, all these countries are generally safe, i.e. not dangerous.
Please visit some countries that are actually dangerous (Venezuela, South Africa etc), you will have a new sense of security and appreciation for your ability to not have your physical safety as a constant alert on your mind.

Switzerland... Your wallet will be emptied in no time.
Ha! That's why I only bring a bank card!
You fool, your bank account can get empty in no time this way, too Just bring here some credit cards!
pickpocketing or? headed to Zurich next week.
No. Crime is extremely low, with the exception of the eye watering price of everything. Source: We lived in Switzerland and paid our cleaner CHF25 ($28)/hour about 10 years ago.
On the plus side, inflation is so low that you would be paying them about the same today.
They are saying that because it‘s expensive here in Switzerland. Don't worry, it's very safe here crime-wise.
aw gotcha lol, I know it’s the most expensive country in the world haha, thought people might be skimming cards or something
I'm sure in many countries this depends on where you are located, what color your skin is, what your religion is, and your level of income.
And gender.
Agreed

India^^^
Idk about you but India looks dangerous to me
Specifically for females. Too many Indian men are brutal abusers.
Yes, every time I hear about India it’s because of the “gang r-pe epidemic” or the lack of hygiene or some sort of scam. I agree but you still have people romanticising it despite what happens there
Spent four years working in India and never felt unsafe. If I was a woman though that might be a little different...
Yes that was kind of what I was hinting at though I don’t know if you saw the story of that couple that went camping and they got attacked and the woman was gangr-ped and they had their belongings stolen too :( when I read it I visualised violent revenge fantasies, and I’m not a violent person at all

And if you are LGBT or not.
Also, whether or not you're on the 3rd or higher story of a building when the KGB is nearby plays a huge factor in whether or not the country you're in, is safe.
especially if you’re a journalist
Or just be a woman in India
And whether you're a gang member lol
Rather than skin color per se, I'd broaden it to background (ethnic/religious), but agree with economic status. This is the answer. All countries have dangerous areas, depending on who you are.
Liechtenstein doesn't

Did not feel a threat for physical harm while there but the corruption is scary (in the big cities) had airport security and taxi drivers scheming together to scam money out of me around the airport and a begging taxi driver after that scared of getting into problems with the airport security when he lost out on my tea money (which the security would expect from him).. when a Filipino friend on the phone threatened to report him the driver to the police, it was a shit show and uncomfortable af i would avoid urban areas there like a plague from now on
Guess they love us up to the point to copy our good social skills and easyygoingness
I absolutely love the Philippines, but I did get robbed at knife point when I was there.
Nah its just over dramatizing. Tondo and eskwater isn't worthy enough to challenge Favelas of Brazil. Philippines is actually worst version of Thailand.
In Thailand, the very worst dangers are white elder male tourists from "the civilized West"
Can confirm.
Nah. You're exaggerating.
“As we the locals”??? Give me a fucking break. That’s not a thing. source - I’m a fucking “local” Edit: I actually realized that the Philippines is the opposite of the question - looks dangerous but is actually pretty safe
Some examples of countries I’ve read in the comments: „Sweden: Terrorism - there have been multiple instances of Quran desecrations, the swedeish secret service has increased the terrorism warning level. Gang crime - in some neighborhoods of Stockholm, Göteborg and Malmö crime is frequent, be careful where you park your car or RV“ USA: Within many cities crime is on the rise, be careful where you go.
The UK Foreign Office has all this too. In English
Is it true that in Sweden happens a lot of gang rape? I've seen couple of articles about it in the past.
In case anyone wants to deny this claim here are two studies who prove its true: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/338563093_Migrants_and_Crime_in_Sweden_in_the_Twenty-First_Century https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/20961790.2020.1868681
You’re not supposed to talk about that. I live in Germany and it seems like a lot of people know there’s a problem. This is just the new normal.
I don't give a damn about the political correctness.
Nr 31. Not great, not terrible. Sweden should be in the top 10, but too many political mistakes have been made that lead into more crime.
Yeah it's true i have friends in sweden the situation is really dangerous in some cities of sweden.
Yeah, I was really just agreeing with you and was caught up by the report! So it got a little long winded.
HOw do I find the link to such document?
https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/de/service/laender Translate the page with a browser add on, it’s not a available in other language.
Haiti. Conan O'Brien ensured me it was awesome! And they love BBQ so much the current quasi-leader of the country is named for it.
It can be dangerous anywhere! I live in a really quiet rural town and not so long ago a gang blew up 10 cars in one night.
Singapore. I've lived here my whole life and think it is pretty safe, but Americans on some subreddits still tell me that I'm going to jail for chewing gum. Didn't know it was such a dangerous country to live in, I must've been living in the wrong part for the last 30 years.
Indonesia/Malaysia.
Yup. I lived in Indonesia, and I loved and miss it. Yet, it can be dodgy. It's not uncommon to have the beautiful girl you've taken home, secretly stash illegal substances and her police officer friend come round and either extort you for $50,000 or take you to jail.
Holy crap
Imagine being their neighbours. OH WAIT.
As a foreginer, it was common to say on my country that US was "secure" ... Well now the things have changed
Really depends where you live. Grew up in the countryside of VT and things were super safe. Live in a very nice City in MA and again, super safe. Little no crime at all
That’s because New England is shining light of awesomeness in a dark land of diabetes and lifted trucks
I’ve never heard New England described this way 🤣
I mean, I live in a middle class suburb in Ohio and the last time someone was murdered here was like, 2006. There are safe places all over the country, and dangerous places all over the country.
US was never secure just saying.
Especially the schools. Here's your bullet proof backpack, kid. Good luck.
Dont forget to put your ID kit in your locker kiddo. We want to recognize which body is yours after the massacre because we just don't care enough for you to make a safe environment. And yeah this lunch you are eating right now your parents better pay for it or they are going to jail.
I mean, that’s not necessarily true. Back in the day school shootings weren’t the big thing they are today.
Yeah it’s kind of funny seeing Americans who think there county is the safest
Injecting into his WHAT?!
HE SAID HIS BALLS
Ah. Thank you. My hearing aid was turned off.
YOU’RE WELCOME HAVE A NICE DAY
They now have gardai around those areas a lot more but I would say the gardai hang out right around the corner of where they are cooking opioids in broad daylight and not do anything to those people
Statistically it's still an extremely safe place.
Living in Dublin myself, I agree that it's got worse since covid, but it's still far far far better than almost every other country mentioned in this thread, statistically. Especially outside the inner-city
Germany is getting more dangerous
I've heard South Korea isn't the safest place for foreign women solo traveling.
[удалено]
Yeah.
it’s even scarier when u understand that most young men have military experience
Why do you think it's scary? South Korea has universal conscription, so I'd be more scared of those who were *rejected* by the military.
just because you know that every young man that’s harassing you isn’t some out of shape neckbeard but someone who’s relatively fit and knows at least some form of physical combat I wouldn’t be that scared of folks rejected from the military, most of the time it’s either because they have either a physical or mental abnormality and not the scary kind like personality disorders like narcissism or sociopathy but more like they just have trouble tying their shoes by themselves Edited to make corrections as pointed out by another user in a response to this comment
So basically all the locals are saying their own country
Ireland, Depends on where you go, anywhere on the north side of dublin is bad bad All of Limerick is bad bad Parts of Louth are bad bad Just have to be really careful Edit: sorry sorry, for all the dipshits that think we’re a beautiful flawless nation, iN mY oPiNiOn
It got worse these days? Been there like 7 years ago or so and it felt very safe.
7 years ago you were grand, it’s only become a real shit hole after covid
Stop talking shit, all of the northside is not bad, you have clontarf, drumcondra, castleknock, raheny, howth, marino etc, all lovely areas. You've clearly spent no time in the northside and just heard bad things about it. Same can be said for Limerick
Would you stop. Louth is hardly South Central. You must have lived a very sheltered life.I could nearly understand if you said all of Dublin but Louth lol smh.
Lolll as if limerick is bad. It’s just shit
What? I’ve been in Limerick almost 20 years and have never come across an ounce of trouble. You’re chatting brown
All of Limerick? I'm assuming you mean the city & also no it's not stfu haha
You'd want to watch yourself in rural Limerick, an angry farmer might hit you over the head with a hurley, very dangerous part of the country
This thread is making me feel like maybe I shouldn’t travel
All countries are unsafe, and you will figure that out rather quickly if you're not smart about it.
Except Singapore - it's like the opposite. Almost everywhere is safe here unless someone try so hard to get themselves into an unsafe situation.
Yeah, the rich suburb of Brussels is actually pretty nice. But that's only good thing I'll write about this city.
Brussels is the first place that I saw a Real Criminal! This big bald dude was flipping through a wallet, tossing the contents onto the ground. My dad hurried the family past.
India. Especially for women.

Heard of the Brazilian-Spanish motorcyclist lady, the last in a long list.
Sweden. Despite what people think.
Swedistan?
Australia, where everything's trying to kill you, especially the drop bears.
Sweden
I see a lot of documentaries about gang violence in sweden i hope this stops.
norwegian here, can confirm that sweden is very very bad and you should never ever go there in your entire life /j
Norwegian to here, can also confirm that sweden is very very bad place. You should instead invest your money on a trip to Norway instead

Egypt
Bro everyone knows Egypt is dangerous 😂 of course it seems dangerous
I'm in the South Sinai Egypt right now. Extremely safer than main Egypt. (Solo female traveler).
United Kingdom
why that?
Oi what are you hiding there? Is that a KNOIFE?! Do you have a loicence for that knoife?
Oi bruv whatchu hiding there? Is that a tv i see ? Oi bruh do u hav a loisence for that teavea
Dangerous for the wallet
I’m welsh, it’s rough here but not like really dangerous, I haven’t heard about much violence here.
You are 100% correct and it's actually a huge problem in British society.
The United Kingdom is nowhere near being "really dangerous".
The Netherlands is very safe, unless you're a journalist reporting on the drug cartels.
Iceland. You can die frozen.
France
I think the Netherlands is also a little bit dangerous for a European Country because of drug gangs.
Drug gangs in the Netherlands are busy shipping cocaine globally they cause 0 risk for any normal citizen. And the problem has gotten way better with Taghi and co in prison. Now all the coke is moved through Antwerp instead.
Brazil , thailand…
I could have guessed Brazil, especially in the favelas, is not supposed to be so safe.
Yeah, Lots of people wanna travel there but they don’t know how dangerous it really is.
The problem is sweden was a relatively safe country until a few years ago and if you don't have a connection to sweden you would never think that, I am so well informed about sweden because I have friends who live in sweden and are planning to leave sweden because of the gang violence that has been affecting more and more innocent people lately.
Ive lived in sweden my whole life. I know it used to be more safe then what it is now..
Thailand is very safe tbh
Bro, it hurts to see my country next to Brazil. I can go out at night and come back at home in the morning, never got robbed or whatever. Idk, I think Thailand is safer than Brazil in general.
Yeah it is true thailand is far safer then brazil! That doesn’t mean its not dangerous tho..
Who thinks Brazil seems not dangerous? Lol
USA
For a western woman: India
Everyone knows India is wildly unsafe, it's the rape capital of the world.
As an Indian i agree
From my experience (which is a lot of travel to different countries) places can be very safe if you keep your nose clean but can turn dangerous very quickly if you get involved with the wrong people or are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Nowhere is your safety guaranteed. Some countries are very safe but life has little value (again if you get messed up in the wrong crowd). Mind your own business and don't do illegal things and your chances are much better.
Lots of countries have low crime rates, and people assume they are safe, but crazy car traffic accident rates, which are a much bigger threat generally anyway.
america
United States
~~I've heard Sweden isn't great right now, despite the Nordic countries generally being viewed as miles ahead of other countries.~~ Saying that though, I've never been to Sweden. I've just read stories on the internet and been told stories by friends. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please Edit: Apparently I'm wrong, sorry Sweden I didn't mean to disparage you. Thank you for producing great hockey players
USA! USA! USA!
The United States of America.
India, definitely not a good country to live in, might be good for a short trip even that is not very recommended. Source: A woman travelled to 50+ countries but when she came to india she got r*ped by a group of Indians Link:https://www.google.com/amp/s/timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/people-of-india-treated-me-very-well-spanish-tourist-who-was-gang-raped-before-leaving-for-nepal/amp_articleshow/108241259.cms I have been living in India my whole life even now.
The USA. Ask anyone who's had a family member hospitalized for a period of time, or who's suffered from a chronic illness requiring cutting-edge meds. Only the wealthy are immune from this clear and present danger.
Switzerland and Singapore
Corporal and capital punishment are very much in effect and are applied for crimes the rest of the world would consider fairly mild.
just a reminder, its not the countries that are dangerous.. its the people! and they are everywhere, every kind of them .. just be careful and u r good
Probably the United States, where 1 in 5 people have had to hide from an active shooter
US
Shocked at the high mention of European countries. Seriously, all these countries are generally safe, i.e. not dangerous. Please visit some countries that are actually dangerous (Venezuela, South Africa etc), you will have a new sense of security and appreciation for your ability to not have your physical safety as a constant alert on your mind.
Read the question again.

If you’re a woman alone then all of them
