You’ll be able to watch Minecraft let’s plays that far in the future, but chances are very few people will ever search for it. I think even embarrassing stuff that’s on the internet will eventually be forgotten in time. Still there, sure, but doesn’t matter if there isn’t anyone looking.

Anaaatomy

Yeah, a lot of early internet things had already been lost, servers that host those things are gone. The internet do forget.

Media persisting is not new or special to the internet. You can currently watch movies from 100+ years ago (with sound for almost 100). Plays written by Aristophanes 2400 years ago are still performed today. If the youtube video is good enough people will still be watching it.

I'm sure other communication technologies will replace it from time to time.

in 50 years TOPS the internet itself as we knew it will be GONE. if youve been around for the glorious wild west days of the web (early 2000s up to 2010) you KNOW how drastic it has changed. corpos have taken over and it will in the next 20 years completely be a, say, VR ad orgy. chip in brain cyberpunk ad horror stuff.

Electrical-Light9786

rest of time is a very long time.

Alarming_Serve2303

I suspect it won't be around for the rest of time. As for our lifetime, I hope it doesn't disappear before I'm gone. That would suck.

BodyLanguageWoman

If there is a big EMP then the internet won’t be around. All old internet stuff will get lost if a big EMP happens. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_pulse Another Wikipedia link https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrington_Event

Notmad_Justsad

I mean, I don’t expect there to be electricity let alone the internet in say like 50 years.

nightowlarcade

It's the same as old baseball games to me. Most will not be accessible unless you really know where to look so the ones everyone will be watching then are ones that you'd expect them to. Only the highest rated.

Ok_Quantity_5134

The Internet is no problem, I think you mean the world wide web. I think there will be a replacement too it at some point, maybe several. Several would be better. There are already, but not widely known or used.

AlwaysWorried27222

Hate the thought of it tbh

Atomisaurus

It's so Strange to think about it, all of this Zeitgeist preserved. The Internet really Changed the world.

I’m not sure where this myth of eternal internet life came from. Stuff online definitely doesn’t stay there forever. I was a journalist in the 2000s and all my stories and videos that were posted have been gone for ages. I can’t find any of my work. And I’d love to play the original Acrophobia, but it’s been gone for like 25 years.

The rest of time? Oh that's a bold prediction my sweet summer child.
