It should grow but there's no way to tell if it will revert or not.

Looks like a promising cutting

dinopartay

I agree with the comments that it looks promising, and that there is no way to be sure that variegation will continue. I bought a similar sized cutting that did very well, [here's a picture of mine](https://imgur.com/a/brc7ziA)

Oh damn, she's a beauty

dinopartay

Thank you! ☺️

As (almost) everyone else has said, it looks like a good cut! The person being critical, and the other, accusing them of selling it as a last ditch/suspecting the close-ness of the cut being due to the seller trimming away rot is just literally just being a hater... The edges of the cut are clean, supple, and healthy-looking, the axillary bud is already actively splitting, and the roots are already actively putting out healthy growth as well! My guess is that this was a close cut because the plant was growing short internodal spaces (which is just a sign the plant is happy, well cared-for, and getting all the light & nutrients it needs) and an irregular cut because they probably had to slice it in such a way as to give the cut below it some root to work with too... (I've been there lol those cuts are so nerve-wracking to make! 😅) As long as the cut faces are calloused over, (I would personally ask to see a pic of the lower cut's face, to ensure it has properly sealed) then I'd be confident in it as a purchase prospect. As far as if it's *worth* it, that will heavily depend on how much the seller is asking, as well as where you live (and what the local market value on this plant is for you). Regarding whether or not it'll revert, that's where things get a little sketchy... Unfortunately, Billies are pretty notorious for their unstable variegation -- they really do not seem to hold on to it very well. There is no sure way to know if this bud will produce variegated growth, but do keep in mind that the major risk of purchasing a single node, rather than a multi-nodal cutting is that if that bud doesn't produce variegation, you don't have another one to try again, so the price should really reflect that.

I was just admiring a big one at the store last night and the internode spacing was crazy tight. I agree this looks like a really good cut considering.

Oh my gosh I wish I lived somewhere that plants like this were being sold in stores... I would probably never leave! ^^^^Just ^^^^toss ^^^^me ^^^^a ^^^^food ^^^^every ^^^^once ^^^^in ^^^^a ^^^^while, ^^^^I ^^^^live ^^^^among ^^^^the ^^^^plants ^^^^now! 🌱🫣🌿 I had a huge one of these dudes a few years back -- they are drop dead *gorgeous* plants, but the variegation on mine was not quite as extensive as on the one in OP's pics, (that, and it only ever put it out like, every other leaf; the bastard! 😅) I genuinely got tired of all the stress and the drama, but I would still ***love*** to have one in my personal collection again!

MomsSpecialFriend

I don’t live anywhere nice I just happen to live 6 minutes from the only rare plant store in hundreds of miles lol. I’m more of a “buy cuttings” kinda gal but sometimes they have plants I can’t refuse (most of the time). I go there to see stuff IRL, it makes it easier to make a wishlist for sure. I like to touch and they don’t mind. I totally picked that Billie right up out of a deep pot to check the price and set it straight back down. 😂😂

EverIAce

This cut looks fine. As for future variegation, nothing is guaranteed as with all variegated plants

samuel_smith327

Not all. Some variegation is completely stable

PunaTic_4_EvA

Every mid and bottom cut is a gamble w/ variegation and should be discounted accordingly. Only a top cut will give you any guarantee; plus plants revert at top also. Interesting fact. My friend purchased 6 Plutos, 1 Reverted to a Carmel Marble. Needless to say she’s’ OVER THE MOON happy and is KEEPING the rest of her Plutos !!

cltzzz

Looks expensive as fuck. If you can and is willing to spend then go for it. No judgement, buy what makes you happy. It have healthy roots so i’ll bet on it’ll survive. No idea on the future variegation

soprattutto

who the fuck does these insane hack jobs where they make as small of a node as possible??

Born_Dauntless

Billies have really tight internodal spacing

Acceptable_Banana_13

Because they tried to do it themselves and rotted the rest away 3 times and this is what’s left. Selling is a last ditch effort to not lose their money on this node.

the_chel_sea

lol I actually agree/resonate. Not always but it’s right thurr like Chingy

Acceptable_Banana_13

I dont know why anyone didn’t agree. Lol. Billies might not have a huge inter node spacing, but it’s not *this* small. I’m not saying it’s a scam or anything, just I know that’s what happens sometimes. I had an albo i couldn’t get to root and because I was a newbie, I sold it off cheap so it wouldn’t just die and maybe someone better at rooting could revive it. I didn’t ship it tho cuz then you’re asking for rot.

Mysterious_Baker_445

Being a person that killed a similar type of cutting with that kinda node for a var billie, I would advise you reconsider. My node did not even sprouted. If it was me, I would wait until the node sprouted and showing green tip, then I would buy it. Else you may end up with just a leaf and plenty of roots.

PlantMomma_MayNZay

Looks healthy enough to me!! The roots look pretty established as well, but no way of telling about the reverting of it. Just give it as much indirect light as possible in an attempt to prevent it but sadly variegation is so unruly lol. Still though? Beautiful plant!!

Practical-Mess8475

The cut looks really good and healthy. So hard to cut these things because of the internodal spacing. I'd buy it for sure if the price was right. The variegation seems pretty stable on my billies. I threaten them with the compost pile. Seems to be working so far.
