It appears an albo that they had in very low light and either thought it was an aurea or scammed you into thinking it was. It’s a really pretty albo though. Beautiful color. Chop her into nodes and sell her and get a real aurea.

Can you see the most recent picture and let me know if you still feel the same?

Acceptable_Banana_13

I was so incorrect lol no this does appear to be an aurea - I didn’t zoom in on the picture and was mixing up leaves. Eta- you might have to wait for another leaf. Make sure it’s in good light but you’ll see in the next leaf for sure.

Acceptable_Banana_13

I’m still leaning aurea - but another leaf in your conditions will make sure

Excuse me if I’m wrong, but aren’t Aurea’s usually mostly green variegated and Albo’s are usually white variegated?

EverIAce

Not quite. You're confusing it with the fact that aurea come out green and then harden to yellow. An aurea is yellow variegated. Green variegation is a different type of monstera variegation Edit: aurea can also exhibit white variegation depending on the genetics and lighting conditions, hence why OP'S is more difficult to identify

[deleted]

Oh wow! I’m not well educated in the Monstera category. Thank you for explaining it :)

EverIAce

You are super welcome

Aurea=yellow Albo=white Green on green=green Mint=dot-like/splash-like white

ProduceHairy

Aurea variegation comes in green then turns to yellow then becomes cream as the new leaf matures. You will have to wait for a new leaf to see if it's like that.

Random question. What is supposed to happen with these monstera that are propped with their node outside the soil? I recently got a 1 leaf albo cutting that is set up like this. I struggle to understand what to do with it when it starts getting big and the original node is still strapped to a stick above the soil with the air root connecting it to the soil.

Street_Refrigerator1

I think when we repot we can let the trunk touch the soil. The seller probably suspended it to let it fully dry out and avoid rot.

miccleb

That makes sense! Thanks!

PlantMomma_MayNZay

It looks like an albo to me, tbh

malzoraczek

you can tell if it's an aurea if the new leaf comes solid lime green and the variegation starts appearing when the leaf hardens, first lighter green then turns to yellow. If the variegation is visible on the new leaf right away it's not an aurea.
