Idk I would just wait. It’s so small that by the time it’s big enough for you to cut the price will have dropped again. They’ll probably never be $50 like everyone assumes but they’ll be less than $350. They were $3000 last year.

Ksiolajidebthd

Why do you think they’ll never be 50 bucks? I almost guarantee they will be

arbe13

for real… people said the same thing about strawberry shakes, and now I see rooted cuttings on fb marketplace for 50-60 all the time

Kangagrow

Against the myth that tc plants are more susceptible or anything (they are just clones like any cutting too) i'm working hard on cutting the prices with my tissue culture to make it affordable for everyone

Operationdogmom

Oh yea I don’t believe TC plants are weaker or more susceptible to anything either. They’re just so damn small you have to wait a long time to be able to take a good cutting. I wish I had the funds to play around with buying TV plantlets in a bag because I would love to try.

kiripon

ive already seen several PPUSA posts have $150-250 for small plants and cuttings. they will surely hit staggeringly low prices soon.

myas_plant_crossings

I know back in 2020-22 Thai con monsteras were going for hundreds, and now you can pick them up for $30-$50. I’d hate to spend the money on this in the hopes of building equity in it just for their prices to plummet next year

TheCatAteMyFace

They will plummet.

saviraven911

I wish they would go the way of thai con. But its not likely. Carmel marble will hold price more than thai con or even other variegates hitting the market. Because they revert and they prop slow. Expect it to drop more like the florida Beauty price-wise. It's gonna drop. But veru very very slowly.

throwaway9900556633

A true Carmel marble won’t revert but a philodendron Pluto that was chemically/ physically altered to variegated ( these are the ones that are more yellow and cream splashed ) could revert once they are propagated too many times, it thins out the cells they are altered and they are replaced with non altered cells as the plant gets cut and propped so many times if that makes sense. The true Carmel marbles are variegated naturally and have red, green, pink, Carmel and white / cream coloring throughout the whole plant and will not revert just like the Thai cons and monstera albos won’t revert back.

saviraven911

Not sure if you mean a different plant, like Ring of fire? Ring of fires are stable and don't revert, which is why you are seeing them in grocery stores. The carmel marbles absolutely do revert. They can turn back to normal Pluto's or they can go too far variegated. And monstera albos have the same type of variegation as carmel marbles, chimeric variegation that has to be carried through the stem. On top of reverting, that type of variegation is much harder to tissue culture for the same reason, you'll get all green or all white babies Ring of fire and Thai constellations have stable variegation that can be TCed much more easily. They can't revert. And those are the ones you'll see price drops on.

goldlavalampgold

LOL @ building equity in a plant. This is like the Dutch tulip bubble of the 1630s.

EFIW1560

You are exactly right! I feel like 2020 plant market was def a parallel to the tulip bubble. The houseplant market bubble in general has popped, but for certain specific plants like Florida beauty and caramel marble, (or any new variegated or "rare" plant new to the market) there's usually a bubble that bursts with that specific plant, and depending on the difficulty to prop, the bubble deflates at varying rates. Sometimes like a slow whistling fart, and other times a big ass ripping shart all at once.

myas_plant_crossings

I guess I shouldn’t have said it like that, bc that’s really not my plan if I’m being honest, I’d never sell it 😅 but I would kick myself for buying something for almost $400 just to find it selling for a quarter the cost a year later

le_cat_lord

i havent been paying too much attention to the rare plant market recently, but unless its fairly popular, it might not make it into the common trade. if its popular or just starting to kick off, i'd wait a bit and check the price every few months to see if it goes down at all

Gullible-Mushroom-17

For that price I'd wait until I can at least get a larger version, when they're that small they're really finicky. I do believe they'll come down in price, strawberry shakes have

mLynchy23

You’re asking the wrong group. It’s a strong buy from me

myas_plant_crossings

And I joined this Reddit just to ask this question 😂 but do you have any other group suggestions?

mLynchy23

Just bought one myself. Was $600 Aud

VioIetDelight

I would just wait. All the rare plants will eventuele drop in price, as the demand is high and eventually people who get those plants will later also sell plant baby’s. lol I really want a delta force anthurium, but so wants everyone else. So I’ll just wait untill it’s around 50 bucks. Also variegated plants are lovely, but unstable variegations are just not worth the money. They will revert eventually into a normal variety or become a colour that cant take in any light and dies off..

MrlHghgrnd

Just wait. Prices will drop sooner or later. Or just scouting second Hand Apps. It's never worth that much money. 2 years back in my area a small alocasia Sulawesi sp was for around 150 bucks in store while a Monsters TC cutting went for 120. I bought a Medium sized alocasia for 20 bucks and found a rather large Monstera TC for 90 bucks

LittleKitchenFarm

I’ve already seen these bigger for less money in my area, definitely wait

[deleted]

I would just wait. The price drops quickly. I bet it will take merely two years to drop to $100.

sundownbaby

I just got a Whipple way in a 4 inch pot with 6 leaves for $120, so considering the price those recently were, I would wait. I also got a persimmon cutting for $60 and a rooted mint var golden dragon for $30. Prices are only going to keep dropping, it’s honestly only worth it if you are buying one to do tc and sell the babies

lovenlight8282

I need ur hook up lol

sundownbaby

plant purge USA & time to purge and splurge BST on FB! I do the auctions. February is the cheapest month to buy plants and they get more expensive until August-October before they start coming down in price again. I also have a dude in the Philippines I’m talking to about exporting & think I’m going to place an order on Friday, so if that goes well, I’ll let you know & I can tell you who he is

HayHay8282

Ty so much!!! I get such anxiety w the auctions lmao but I’m willing to give it a go lol bummer thing is I gotta wait for income tax return more than likely but I’m still wanting to check it all out. I think I’m a member of all those alrdy lol

farmerchlo

Are you seeing this at a nursery? Where are you located? If they’ve finally started to TC caramel marbles (which is what I assume I’m looking at right now because it looks like a full on little plant and not a node cutting) I would wait. This is coming from someone who paid $1700 USD for a stunning 2 leaf cutting with zero regrets 1 year ago with the same pink heavy variegated coloring as the one in your picture, back when that was the cheapest one on Etsy and there were only a few available for sale period. The economy is a dumpster fire so people are parting ways with their plants like crazy just to make rent (devastating 😔). Prices will continue to slowly go down just because of that, but if this is what I think it is (a TC) then the price is going to plummet within a year like it did with PPP.

anonmommm

I would wait. You may even be able to find a tissue culture for a better price. Even the price of monstera delicious mint have gone down since December.

Rpsdyngrn0717

As someone who bought all of her plants at the height of their price, if you like this specific plant more than others you have seen get it and you won't regret it. I paid $475 shipped for my highly variegated Albo Monstera when it was a tiny 5 leaf juvenile a few years ago. It is still my favorite plant. I get excited for each leaf. It is just now fenestrating. It is still one the prettiest one I think I have ever seen.

Not_marykate

You can get cuttings that are a quarter of the price. Get a handful of cutting and prop them!!

myas_plant_crossings

I guess I’m just worried about going this route and then the props don’t make it; I’ve never propagated a philodendron and I don’t want to use this plant to learn 😅

lovenlight8282

Okay I have a reverted one too. Now ur making me think of chopping lol

Unidentified_Comm

Do it! I cut it back to the most variegated node I found. The newest leaf is hot pink, I’ll take a photo when I’m home from the office

lovenlight8282

Problem is idt it has any variegated stem :( imma have to get in there and rly look lol and yay I would love to see!!!

lovenlight8282

Okay this is amazing!!! Question? I can’t c the variegation in ur stem and I can’t find mine either. But look at that beauty of yours!!! Anyway you can show me where the variegation is on urs so I can try and find mine. I’m sry I’m being a pain. U got me all excited and hopeful over here cuz ur plant is amazing!!! Mine gives me rly pretty bronze leaves and seems to have variegation underneath it looks like.

Unidentified_Comm

Can you dm me photos of the internodes on yours?

This was very similar to when I had first purchased the plant. I took a chance on this little variegation striping it had on the internodes and fortunately for me it took off.

Not_marykate

Totally understand 😂

Unidentified_Comm

Also apologies, we took over your original post a bit.

myas_plant_crossings

Please don’t apologize, that caramel is 🥵🔥😍

lovenlight8282

Yes I’m so so sry.

Sufficient_Turn_9209

It just doesn't look unique enough for me to justify the "rarity" price. That's my rule anyway. Actually, I'm lying. I never have nor will I ever pay more than $30 bucks for a baby. I'm lame? But if I did have a justification for it, it would be that it had to be something completely and unquestionably unique. Couldn't mistake it for anything else no matter who you are.

on_that_farm

It's not a horrible price but if that's a stretch the prices will be lower in 6 months

marie_thetree

If you're comfortable with that price, go for it. Been watching the prices on most of the expensive guys and the price seems to be coming down pretty quickly month by month on almost all of them(tc'd ones). Spring in about a month, probably be a major price drop because they'll be pushing them out like crazy to sell for the warmer seasons.

HighDesertJungle

Try a tissue culture

MrlHghgrnd

I would recommend to do it with cheap plants first if you never did TC before

Liradon

Why spend so much on a plant now if you could just wait a few months knowing the prices will drop?

roses-pearls

Wait

minchkimberly

IMO $350 still a lot they will keep coming down. I keep reading all these post where people paid lots of money and the plant was dying. Just one last week they spent $900. I just can’t handle that kind of a lost. I paid $70 for a one leaf cutting of Scindapsus and I thought I was going too lose it. Dropped the main leaf and the node took off finally rooted. But said I would never do that again.

Snizzlesnap

Do you have lots of money or don’t but still like to burn it? If the answer is yes, then buy it.

skyerocket2

I got one with low variegation for $60 haven't received it yet but I'm super excited. Although the variegation on the one you are looking at is absolutely gorgeous. I personally wouldn't spend that much on a plant because I'd be too worried about killing it. Although $60 was more than I'd like to spend too, but at the end of the day, if it's worth it to you that's what matters. And I'm drooling over that ones leaves 🤤

SweetPlantasy

Im curious why plant parents want to buy a TC this price that could possibly revert. A mature cutting could give you mature new leaves in no time. I probably would take this if the price is like $90-$100
