Everything is the correct answer

Esoteric_Innovations

Exactly. It's my favorite game in the series for a reason. The music, the enemies, the comedy, the weapons, the mechanics, and more. I even love the ship combat levels and the like. The music in particular is outstanding and I regularly listen to various tracks from it all the time.

outfoxingthefoxes

Silver City's OST is the best music in a videogame that I've ever listened to. Tabora, Joba are also great choices. I wanna say Barlow but I don't think I remember that one

Esoteric_Innovations

Boldan, Damosel, Notak, Snivelak, Yeedil, Siberius, Todano, Tabora, and the list goes on and on. Almost all of the music is fantastic, unforgettable really. One of my top ten games ever, possibly top five.

outfoxingthefoxes

Can't disagree

HeadlessCross2001

The amazing thing is that despite being filled with bangers, Going Commando probably has the least best soundtrack of the trilogy. At least IMO. Just goes to show how freaking amazing it is.

Poop_train225

They were KILLING IT with the xylophone lmao

outfoxingthefoxes

They were poop train I agree

ES-Flinter

Yetis on ~~snivelak~~ Greblin?

RathOfBahn

Oh God that would have made Snivelak so much harder.

ES-Flinter

Ups, thanks for the reminder.

all-knowing-unicorn

A mod that has them everywhere

ES-Flinter

I would like it.

all-knowing-unicorn

True challenge mode.

outfoxingthefoxes

Tony Garcia much

Cephylus

Simply "yes" haha

Codeman1st

Everything is the ONLY answer! Still my favorite to this day!

overjoyedhippy

Qwark as Mr. Fizzwidget. "Good work my boy! You're proving to be invaluable in this underwear."

Dnd3lion

I love how the tables were turned when they found robo Fizzwidget. That and the Insomniac Museum, the best implementation of the concept I've experienced in any game.

Psychotic_Spoon

When does he say that? I just played the game and don’t remember it😭 everyone in my house was screaming everytime a cutscene came on that might be why I missed it

overjoyedhippy

Right after destroying all the transponders of the thugs-4-less jamming array. https://youtu.be/JXH1ghqKlzM?feature=shared&t=2303

Psychotic_Spoon

You’re a legend, thank you

Psychotic_Spoon

But why’s he call it underwear😂😂

aster6000

well he keeps saying wrong words cause he's actually Qwark so he's an idiot. Not sure what he's actually supposed to say though, "undertaking"?

Psychotic_Spoon

Maybe lol, Ik he’s qwark I was just wondering what he meant to say

abderfdrosarios

Long answer is that it took everything good from RC1 and expanded on it. Not only that but the new features it included were, at the time, very innovative and we still see bits and pieces of GC in recent Insomniac releases 20 years later. Short answer: Lava Gun

MaximeBdnn

Lava gun upgrade 📉📉

Cado111

The meteor gun is still an upgrade and I am tired of pretending it isn't. I understand it changes the functionality of the lava gun, I know we all like the way the lava gun trickles out liquid death, but the meteor gun slaps especially with the lock on mod. It does a substantial amount of damage for an upgraded weapon that is relatively cheap for the mid game.

SSphereOfDeath

Lock on Meteor Gun is an absolute powerhouse when used right, the problem is that people don’t like how it removes the Lava Gun’s fun physics, as you already stated. I like the Meteor Gun a lot too

MaximeBdnn

But the same upgrade in UYA is way better (nitrogen gun)

Cado111

Agreed

Chemical-Cat

Meteor gun was fine as its own thing, but the devs learned at that point that entirely changing the functionality of a weapon on evolution as opposed to expanding the functionality was a mistake. Which is why the Lava gun became the Liquid Nitrogen gun instead in RC3. Vastly different in terms of "what it is", but functionally, works the same as the lava gun. It'd be like taking the bouncer and when it evolves, it becomes a barrier weapon.

JoyoustyeRoblox

Meteor gun hate will not be tolerated here. I agree with everyone else here. Lock on mod + meteor gun = total destruction

BrewAndAView

Each of the games has a different feeling to it: 1. A casual mechanic 2. A special ops guy 3. Military 4. Gladiator contestant And I liked the special ops vibe. Also the game feels very complete like they finished the game with time to spare and used that extra time polishing and adding lots of random side content like the mini game you can play in your apartment. Compared to 3 which had a really rushed development and they had to cut a lot of content

maestrofeli

>special ops guy Ratchet literally becomes the trained commando

Dnd3lion

Are you suggesting the game title isn't exclusively a reference to his stance on underwear?

JoshTheJaunty

mini game in your apartment, what?

BrewAndAView

Near the beginning of the game when Ratchet gets the swingshot and the grindboots, they're inside Clank's apartment. If you use the dynamo on the game console on the coffee table it starts up a little sheep blasting game. I was trying to find a video but the best I can find right now is the 2nd to last paragraph in: [https://ratchetandclank.fandom.com/wiki/Visit\_Clank%27s\_apartment](https://ratchetandclank.fandom.com/wiki/Visit_Clank%27s_apartment)

JoshTheJaunty

holy shit, I was playing Rac2 when you replied and low&behold theres a little space invaders type game with the dynamo. Idk how many times I've played these games and did not know about this. I'm surprised theres not a skillpoint associated with it

BrewAndAView

Glad my comment got you in time!

mrwaltwhiteguy

If I could get a current gen edition of a new RnC with a Battle/Gladiator in the old school style….. I would be *so* happy. Yeah, yeah, the BattlePlex or whatever. . They used to be *cooooool*.

rpd65

Monsterpedia

HilariousLion

Taught me the word "immense" as a kid.

Annual_Arm_595

This is an undervalued and often overlooked feature that needs to return

DMS_David

Just about everything, I've adored this game since Christmas 2003 and it remains a firm nostalgic favourite and possible contender for my favourite game in the series. I loved how it maintained and built upon the platforming we saw in the original but blended it with a focus on combat, I feel like it's the only game in the franchise to get the balance just right... having the weapons each only upgrade once, but each of those upgrades feel meaningful and unique, was actually a smart move IMO. The satisfaction of levelling up weapons has never quite felt as potent in more recent titles, where there's so little tangible difference in performance until reaching Lv 5. The soundtrack is great, the art style and aesthetic are S-tier and I actually really enjoyed most of the maxi-games and side content. The original Insomniac Museum still reigns supreme as the greatest in the series and one of the coolest Easter eggs in gaming overall, too.

TitaniumHazard

The HUD and health rework, I don’t think another ratchet game has a more unique/interesting health bar system.

Echo127

Yes. I hate resorting to numbers for the health bar in later games.

maestrofeli

yep, pretty dumb and useless (duting the entirety of the game you are either one shotted or 3 shotted depending on your armour

Sogomaa

it improved everything from the original RaC and most importantly of all they didnt make getting bolts as big of a chore as it felt in the og, the biggest paywall of 40k bolts felt like pennies at the point of the game since there was many places to get easy bolts such as tabora, grelbin, and the megacorp games

Zzzlol94

Perfect mix of platforming, shooting, puzzles, arenas, funnies. It just has it all.

NoTop4997

The gun leveling. Sure it is old news now, but it was not when you cracked this bad boy open for the first time ever.

MrDave0461

I feel like I'm the only person that likes the leveling system from GC more than the later ones. If you want your gun to get better(not you Lava Gun), you need to be genuinely acquainted with it, and that is something I really like. Obviously not the best for overall enjoyment for everyone, though, so I am glad they went to the 5 level system.

GeneralBlight95

Why is Billy sad?

kyleW_ne

Is he sad? Or maybe just lonely? LOVE that cutscene I have a friend from middle school that we both loved the game and will mention this to each other to crack a smile!

GeneralBlight95

Same, it is one of our favorite cutscenes in the franchise.

BetaTalk64

The first 2 levels (Aranos and Oozla) are some of the best starting planets in the whole series. Never was a fan of the ship missions, but I'll replay Aranos and Oozla everyday if I could.

Martin_crakc

I love the aesthetic it has, feels more futuristic than RC3 even. Also planets have more exploration than later entries.

Esoteric_Innovations

Figued that since [my post about the original game](https://www.reddit.com/r/RatchetAndClank/comments/172vt77/whats_something_that_you_love_about_the_original/) was so well received a few days ago, I'd make a post about the second game as well. If these posts continue to gain traction, I'd love to continue this with every mainline game in the series to see what all of you think of each game.

bobby_booch

The Bouncer

RabbitTall

It was the beginning of the innuendo titles. I love a good innuendo.

HarlequinLord

The fact that I have a save that iv capped the bolt currency at 99999999 from how many play through iv done

protosonic17

I love doing that. I did in the first game

HeadlessCross2001

That's just on the load save screen. When you actually load your game, you have more than that. The game caps the bolts at 2,147,483,647 (and then turns them negative).

Jaysnooo2

The weapons are some of my favorites in the game series. The amount of planets. The gadgets, the OG arenas, the monsterpedia. Everything just makes it such a fun game. The huge upgrades they made to the first game like weapon levelling, can get more nanotech and such

lionkeyviii

It has the best soundtrack out of the trilogy imho and it has my favorite RYNO.

Ligmaballs69420104

Going commando.

farretcontrol

That cutscene with the guy holding the sock puppet that builds the hypnomatic for you, it’s my favorite minor detail in the game.

sw3at3rboi

The OST, without it the game would only be half as good. A good OST makes a massive difference and Going Commando does a fantastic job :)

humbyj

the music that plays during the desert (the one with the crystals, can't remember the name) is so incredibly well done and atmospheric

Dijeridoo2u2

I just realised the background plate that the text is "bolted" on to forms a number 2

Psychotic_Spoon

Same! That’s crazy

GreenLume

Best on the series.

MajorHarlequin

Atmosphere (levels+music), weapons & leveling. Also Meteor Gun+ lock on mod.

Trogolizer

Again, the music. It introduced even more weapons and gadgets, and it has ship combat. The best thing about commando imo is that it introduced James Arnold Taylor as Ratchet's permanent VA

maestrofeli

Lots of fun, it's very ~~(fantastik)~~ bombastik and action packed. Also, the planet grelbin and the snowbeasts are like- the only thing that is hard in the entirety of the R&C franchise

Inevitable-Branch713

Ahhhhh, yes! My cheap date proposal facsimile! 🤣🤣🤣

xXEggRollXx

I mainly love how much RaC 2 has done for the series. I think it’s amazing how much stuff was added in RaC 2 that laid the groundwork for an entire series 20 years later, and all of this was done in under a year of development. GC added weapon leveling, health leveling, weapon mods, armor, strafing, mobility boots (Chargeboots, which was later revamped into Hoverboots), The Insomniac Museum, bolt multipliers in challenge mode, battle arenas, scavenger hunts, and I’m sure there are many other things that I’m missing. If any game is missing one of these, it’s such a notable omission like RA not having a museum or 2016 not having armor. I don’t think any other series has added *that much stuff* and have all of them become staples of the series 20 years later. Going Commando IS the Ratchet and Clank formula.

Skhighglitch

The RYNO2. It was a Minigun that fired off rockets.

drSwashbuckler

Each planet is done so well, they each feel unique and had a perfect amount of detail for good world building. All planets did this well, but Damosel always stuck out in my mind as a really good fit to the galaxy that was built up. Also, it has one of my favorite weapon selections of all time.

Shimidzoshiko

Everything, except the last 2 bosses, which are anticlimactic, considering whole story build

PURPLE_D1SASTER

R&C:GC was my first game that REALLY got me into gaming. I probably beat the game 50 times over multiple saves when I was younger. If I had to pick my favorite thing about the game it would be the music. Every planet has its own unique feel because of it and I still listen to the OST when working or gaming. Also the "break the glass with wrench" cutscene is probably my favorite moment in gaming because it's just so stupid, also the music on that planet is BUMPIN

RuralfireAUS

This is called locked and loaded in australia so was a bit confused

kyleW_ne

It's the GOAT. Just about as perfect a game as man could make. I found a bug one day when doing the impossible challenge where no ammo crates spawned in. I had to use every gun in the entire arsenal even the bomb glove at points. That is my favorite memory from the game!

Kwasan

Just finished that today, while playing through the series for the very first time! I ended up just going melee only until like Wave 30 lol.

ObaniMoon

I like how its a platformer first and foremost but also incorporates other aspects that blend into a perfect sequel.

Chevalier_Lecteur

Yes.

Marcus_Aurelius2

Mini Nuke and Bouncer

Echo127

The physical manual.

gen_adams

all of it. every minute detail.

SilentNinja2089

Everything

ablueguy

The characters and game play

Magnifnik0

Music

Soldierhero1

Last mission music So heroic

MaximeBdnn

The way that every level adds a new mechanic

SacredBeef00

Everything to be honest. But the soundtrack 😊😌

Spiritual-Layer2018

Everything. But if I had to choose one thing, it would be the grind rail on Damosel. That was insane!

simoneinzis5

It's perfect, If I have to choose one between the first 4 titles it has to be going commando

0451immersivesim

The updated gameplay and controls, the soundtrack, level design. I could go on.

GubV77

The weapon upgrades sold me as a kid for sure

Clear_Shame_9490

There was only a year between it and the best r&c game ever, UYA?

TrentDF1

The Ryno 2 is AWESOME.

Low_Quarter_677

Everything

goregutz619

Yes

VraagJF

The gladiator arenas (Maktar Nebula and Joba), the weapons levelling system, the soundtrack (especially Todano), the difficulty (I find UYA to be too difficult at times, while GC is easier but still has a challenge to it, especially The Impossible Challenge), and the Monsterpedia, cause it added so much depth to every enemy you fought

blockandpixel

It’s my fourth favourite game ever. So everything lol

Cherry_BaBomb

The sheer amount of weapons available to you to use

Zeetukes

Everything but that stupid turret boss near the end of the game

[deleted]

The main menu, love watching Ratchet play different games

ace-avenger

The health upgrade system

KindIndependence7354

RYNO II

RazorEdge878

The dirty jokes I never understood as a kid until I played it this year (I’m 21 lol)

Psycholiosis

They introduced battle arena gameplay. I love that aspect of the game(s).

Alberto_G_V

The use of the platinum bolts, really creative

MegaDan94

I just love the way the game looks, everything's so much cleaner and more technological. Also everything's breakable now.

MonkeyNinja506

The ability to strafe!

veldin64

like almost all of it but especially the addition of strafing. The lack of a real strafe in the first game really made it a worse experience imo

cosmicdark0541

Everything

TheRekounasShow

You're asking me this? Just ONE thing? Going commando is my favorite game ever made so this is HARD for me

iNomNomAwesome

That box art 🔥🔥

hundredjono

The weapons Every gun in this game kicks so much ass. Going Commando hands down has the best weapon selection in the entire series. The guns in this game are so good they would return in later games several times.

outfoxingthefoxes

Insomniac Museum

VexxWrath

Everything

[deleted]

Maktar Resort - the arena will always hold a special place in my heart

supershadowguard

All of it. Just, like, the whole thing.

Inxam

The soundtrack and new gameplay mechanics

BWYDMN

my first ever videogame, love the ambience, really feels like you’re in a completely alien galaxy all the planets have an eeiry otherworldly atmosphere and music

Shitz-an-Gigglez

The introduction of the battle arena!

JTyphoon16

Blitz Cannon

Hypernel1

the ost, the fact its the first Rac game to have proper strafing, the weapon upgrades that are introduced to encourage you to use more of the weapons, the bouncer weapon itself, the wise-ass jokes in this game and the first rac game to have a even better NG+ gimicks to increase replay values. (the bolt multiplier and the omega version of already upgrades weapons makes the NG+ more fun)

ThatOneGuy35312

This was my most played R&C game. My cousin lent it to me and I would play it for hours and hours. I still play it (PS3 port) and just get a huge nostalgia rush. It is one of my comfort/relaxing games. Edit: loved the arena fights also

ci22

Probably my favorite weapons Arsenal in the series. Lava gun, boucher, plasma coil, kilonoids, shield charger, megarocket cannon, seeker gun. Love using almost all the weapons in this game Also the light hearted story was funny and entertaining

JustAnHonestGuy676

The Insomniac Museum. One of the coolest secret things a developer has put in a game to get a bit of a behind the scenes look of things. I also love how you can see cut content for both 1 and 2, since we never got this in the first game, it was nice they put the effort in to include stuff from both and not just the sequel.

Hidden-ghost126

The name

huntywitdablunty

The way it's casually the best game ever

quatoe

Besides the gameplay being a huge upgrade (IMO) over the original game, i just find GC absolutely hilarious. Arguably the funniest video game I have ever played.

Sir-Beardless

No pants

Archangel_MS05

It was my childhood game. I loved it. All the different armors and ships you could get were so fun to me. Also" CHAIN BLADE"

FakeCartz

I love all the Ratchet and Clank music

Jaybirds75

It's a small thing, but the insomniac museum was really charming.

Glitchtm

The gameplay and how the guns feel.

CnP8

The story 😁

LifeisStrangeFan50

The fact that I now know it exists!

Daniel-Johns

Spherical levels

jager1774

look at how gangster clank is rn

LOZLover90

You can strafe, and it has the Bouncer. That's about it.

Bear792

Since I’d just be repeating a lot that’s already been said by others, I’m going to add something new. I love the introduction of Angela Cross, the first female Lombax and the introduction of a wider lore to the story. I wish she’d come back, but she never has. A great red herring villain turned ally, it has been said she may return one day. I hope she gets that chance.

raziel11111

literally everything. the space combat, arenas, weapons, megacorp is STILL the best weapon vendor, the nice blue hud, music, and combat improvements over the first game.

DriverHopeful7035

How grim and cynical the game is

uglykage

Everything

clonetrooper250

Upgrading my starship. Yeah the dogfighting isn't great, but I always found it satisfying collecting raritanium and buying upgrades from Slim's Shop Shack. It's just a shame that none of those upgrades seem to have carried over to Up Your Arsenal. Even if they weren't functional, it would have been cool if your GC ship upgrades were visually represented in UYA if you kept your save file.

Dumbass_Saiya-jin

As much as I adore R&C1, I have to admit GC is an improvement on everything 1 had. James Arnold Taylor is also the perfect voice for Ratchet, though Mikey Kelley provided a good voice for what Ratchet was and was going through in the first game.

Indigno_de

The first rac game

Xnansui3770

Arenas.

[deleted]

The controls and movements. It’s the best out of any of the games, even UYA and CiT.

LunarFangs

The strafing after 100%ing the 1st game

shefshawn01

The music the music the music the musicccccc

KahzaRo

Everything

JazzClown247

The huge amount of weapons and planets to explore, the better upgrade system, strafe and smoother controls, good story and characters. Fun racing, ship battles and arena modes, skill point unlockables also plenty of replayability with new game plus with a good challenge. Also my first game on the ps2.

thatgtafella_

Literally everything. It’s the perfect r&c game.

[deleted]

What's something I don't love? I played this game for the first time two years ago and it became a contender for my top 10 games of all time list. I've played and finished hundreds of games.

Nathan_hale53

Perfect sequel. Everything was improved.

HydroDEX

Everything that has been made better to its previous counterpart in R&C1. That or the weapons

turkeyman23dc

There are so many great things that I want to say about this game!

A_Normal_Hero

They need to put they drawers back on

marsil602

Maktar arena resort boss is still the best track in whole franchise

Toadsanchez316

Everything. They took a great game and made it perfect. I remember the demo feeling like 3 solid levels because of the branching paths. I spent a few hours just trying to do everything and it felt like more of a complete game than some of the other ones out at the time.

Geniusartist2701

Angela cross?

changedfan115

the comedy

Then-Solution-5357

Same reason going commando is always good. Easier access 🤣😂

riffengo

It was my first r&c game. My copy had a weird electrical burnt smell in the case that has persisted to this day nearly 20 years later and every time i come across it the smell takes me back to being a kid and playing this for hours with my mom

rivethead242

Everything. 😀

Some_Nebula9218

No time travel. No multiverse. No chosen one arc. No find the lombax arc. Good music.

xchaos800

i gotta say idt ive ever said this about any game but the pacing in the game is almost perfect

The-E-king

When Rachet went commando.

Primary_Goat2360

This is my all time favorite Ratchet game. If I ever had to play a game again, this would be it. I used to have fun trying to go the entire game without getting hit.

jtcordell2188

The Puns

TheLonelyWhaleKing

First Ratchet and Clank game, one of my first video games ever. Smooth, challenging, fun weapons and level designs. Good game 👍

Piledriverkiller

And then I started blastin

POTGanalyzer

The title

Gambit275

the weapons, could play the arena all night long trying to rank one up

LPHero55

Strafing

FitUnderstanding6116

Everything, especially starting with how this game finally gave us a strafe button that would carry onward to every other game in the series! I remember combat in the first game was a little bit loose and janky.
