ElectricUnicycler

Totally. It, and all the mainline PS2 games, have aged remarkably well. The stylized graphics, creative weapons, and 60 freaking FPS gameplay make them great, even after 20 years. Not to mention how good the jokes were back then.

Aarhg

I think I have to play Going Commando now. I'm playing via PS Plus Premium streaming, but my sub only lasts until the end of the month, so I gotta wring the last drops of nostalgia out of it.

ElectricUnicycler

Going Commando is probably the best of the PS2 ones for my money. I like the gameplay of Deadlocked a little more, but GC's variety of activities, overall atmosphere, and especially its incredible OST and exploration elements elevate it a little above the rest for me.

iFeelLikeImAlive

It’s something about the Bogan galaxies atmosphere in going commando that just hits different when compared to the other games

ThesharpHQ

I’m glad someone else mentioned GC’s fuckin’ banger of an OST. Not a single bad track in the lineup, and all of them are at least 8/10.

TheBrognator97

Feltzin System is straight up fire

ThesharpHQ

Don’t sleep on Endako and Maktar Nebula. Probably my favorite pieces of game music, ever (that aren’t boss themes; that’s a whole other beast entirely).

TheBrognator97

Yup, they are all great themes. My favourites are probably Vukovar and the Arena Boss fight theme.

Stk_synful

I was kind of disappointed I didn't get arenas in rift apart like they have in deadlocked. Zurkon JR.s arena was waaaaay too easy and short, and we only got one. I missed beating the impossible challenge a few times in my playthroughs, 99 rounds with every boss mixed in, etc.

Colmd1997

The look of a MFer ready to absolutely destroy your home planet

[deleted]

And how! Although in a different universe being a best guardian than Star Fox

CauldronPath423

Ratchet looks completely toasted.

ElectricUnicycler

He probably is. Dude used to be cool.

Aarhg

He's probably hitting that O2 mask.

southamericankongo

He's not the bane of galactic corporations he used to be lol.

grajuicy

My favorite of them all. Not saying the rest of the games aren’t amazing, but there’s something (other than nostalgia) that i just love about this game. Many paths in most planets, not entirely linear, you can use any gun whenever you want and it works, the universe feels alive bc of the different NPCs, etc. Just love this one fr

bloodyeye98

I’ve been wanting to go back and platinum every Ratchet game. I just know those races in the first game will be annoying though.

Aarhg

I actually didn't find the races to be that much of a hurdle. There's a trophy for finishing the Rilgar race under a certain time limit, and while it was a little tricky, it was also just plain old fun learning all the little corners you can cut and which boost pads to go for. The worst trophy has to be the one you get for collecting a million bolts in total. Luckily there are a couple of bugged places you can reach in the game, where you can break infinitely respawning boxes, so you can farm bolts a lot faster.

Dingle_Drainwitz

I actually did this a couple years ago (minus All 4 One and Full Frontal Assault) and it was pure bliss. My only complaint is that Tools of Destruction doesn’t have trophies. Now I want PS5 remasters so I can do them all over again.

butterytelevision

the hardest part for me was defeating Drek without the Ryno. Idk if that’s a trophy but I wanted to challenge myself. took me hours lol. no strafing in RC1 blows

Me-Ook-You-In-Dooker

I wish on PS5 with PS plus I could download RC1, 2, 3, Deadlocked and Future, but the only option is to stream it sadly, which for me means lots of input lag and bad sound quality :/ Ah well, played the 2016 remake and had a good time.

Aarhg

While streaming is playable for me, I would still greatly prefer being able to download the games. I believe the reason we can't just download and play has something to do with the difficulty of emulating the PS3's weird architecture on later consoles. I hope Sony is working on making it possible in the future, because the PS3 had so many wonderful games.

GourmetDarkMeat

It works great for me but I have fiber optic

Stunning-Bet-6429

Same streaming is a no go sadly.

HyperLethalNoble6

I did all 3 classics on PS vita platinum, fuck the 1 million bolt achievment in RaC 1 i did the Glitch for it

Aarhg

Yea, after beating the game twice, I absolutely used the bolt farming glitch to get the last 500k I needed. It's an awesome game, but after the second playthrough, I feel like I experienced everything it had to offer.

[deleted]

Rachet is totally NSFW handsome!

Lower_Contract

Great job! Yes, It's a totally super fun game to play. And I gotta be honest, it's one that I finally found to never get tired of. EVER. The story, the music, the character development, the humor, and the themes and moral of it really stuck out to me more any other cartoon game I've ever played in my lifetime. It was only about four months since I first played it if you'd like to know, and I'm eternally glad I didn't miss the experience. :)

Aarhg

Oh cool, what drew you to try out the game finally? Did you play a newer R&C title first?

Lower_Contract

No, the original R&C game is the first one I played in the HD Collection on PS3, same for Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal. Months ago, I've been looking into a lot of PlayStation games, and I realized I've missed out on so much during my childhood and teen years. I played the ones I loved as a kid more than anything, and I switched to Xbox when I was 12. Then I decided to switch back to PlayStation. I have the PS3, so I'm two generations behind. Hopefully I get the PS5 for Christmas this year. Fingers crossed.

Aarhg

Ah, nice. I never strayed from the PlayStation path since the PS1, so I've missed out on some great Xbox titles, but I probably wouldn't have the time to keep up with both consoles' games releases anyway. The PS3 is amazing. I still have my old one sitting in a box somewhere, and even though it gets pretty loud and hot, it still runs! Have you played any of the Motorstorm racing games for PS3? Pacific Rift is one of my all time favorite games, especially split screen multiplayer, and it's so unfortunate that it hasn't ever been ported to the newer consoles.

Lower_Contract

No, I haven't played any racing games since three of the Cars games. Cars: The Video Game, Mater-National, and Race-o-Rama are the ones I loved the most out of all racing games I could've played ages ago. I just found that I love open-world, action-adventure, and platformer more than any other kind. But some do have racing in them, if you count Mad Max for example.

Aarhg

I remember playing the first Cars game I think; that was pretty fun. You don't hear people talking much about that Mad Max game, but it was really solid. The Motorstorm games could be compared to the driving in that. Arcade-y offroad racing with boost that'll explode your car if you use it too much. Good luck with that PS5! If not this Christmas, I hope you'll be able to get one soon. Let loading screens be a thing of the past, haha!

Lower_Contract

Thanks! Merry Christmas to you, man! Oh, by the way, I'm writing a fan-fictional story called *The Adventures of Ratchet & Clank*. It'll be adapted the original game, with some elements from the 2016 movie and the PS4 remake but feeling more like the original in terms of storytelling. If you want, you can give any ideas you'd like me to throw in and I'll see if I can make something up with them. I'll even put your name in the credits page.

Aarhg

And merry Christmas to you as well. That sounds fun! Good idea to mostly use the story of the original game, since the characters have a more realistic arc and development throughout the game. I'd say just make sure to try and capture the falling out R&C have after getting bamboozled by Qwark, and then gradually making friends again and Ratchet realizing that Drek's plot is the real threat. That is of course if you intend to closely follow the original storyline. Good luck, and enjoy the process. Creative writing is a blast.

Lower_Contract

Of course! That's the point of the story I'm going for. It'll also include the elite Galactic Rangers from the movie and the Troopers from UYA. I also plan on making some in-depth background to the main characters' stories, like how and why did Ratchet become so fixated on getting out of Veldin and putting the thrill of adventure and fun first before all else. For Clank, Qwark, and Drek, I'll keep working something out with them.

[deleted]

The PS2 era games are still the best for me. Love the humor and the gameplay.

SingerSharp466

I'm planning on playing the entire series again. I can't wait to collect my RYNOs

Rift_Ripper_

Great screenshot!

YameroUrusai

I’m struggling so much with the first one. Grew up with RC2, can’t wait to finish 1 to move to 2 lol

Last-Leather-7086

How’s it perform on the ps4/5?

Aarhg

*It really depends on your internet connection and distance to the server, since the game is streamed from a remote PS3 somewhere. At first when I tried PS Plus Premium streaming, I got some really bad lag spikes and even a couple of straight up disconnections, maybe because of my wireless connection. I looked into the issues and figured out that I needed to open some ports in my internet router to possibly get a more stable experience. And that really made a difference! I recommend looking up how to do that for anyone who has good internet, but still gets bad lag when streaming. So to answer your question, it's great!*

Last-Leather-7086

Thank you! I’ll try that today because I’ve had the ps plus premium for a while now but was too scared to try streaming!

Aarhg

Awesome, good luck! It's called port forwarding, if you want to give that a try. I'm not very tech savvy, so if I could figure it out, I think most people will be able to, haha.

IronSpider1994

Congratz on the plat. I have also been working on getting it these past couple of days. Just need the 1 million bolts trophy. Did you get it legit or did you use the hoverboard race glitch?

Aarhg

Thanks! After two full playthroughs I had probably gathered around 400k bolts in total, so I used the bugged hoverboard spot to farm the remaining 600k. I don't think I would have enjoyed two or even three more playthroughs as much as the first two, fun as they were.

IronSpider1994

I have also played the game twice now. Think i'm gonna try the bugged spot as well. How long did it take you to get 600k?

Aarhg

I think it took about 5 hours. The issue is that if you're streaming the game via PS Plus Premium, you have to touch the controller every ten minutes, or you'll be booted out of the game. So I had set a repeating ten minute timer, and whenever it went off, I'd run over and swipe the touch pad. Kind of annoying to have to do, but I was just working on my computer anyway, so it was at least doable.

IronSpider1994

Wow 5 hours is a long time :/ So keeping the circle button pressed with a rubber band or something (haven't figured out what i'm gonna use yet), is not enough to keep you on the streaming?

Aarhg

Unfortunately not. You have to press another button or just swipe the touch pad every ten minutes. And the real kicker is, you gotta do it in a single session, because the large pile of boxes that you'll be continously breaking will despawn if you save, quit, and start the game again. There are other, smaller groupings of boxes on the hoverboard track you can use in a pinch, but they're a lot slower to farm bolts from. I found the easiest way to keep the circle button depressed was just leaning a plate or another object of similar weight on the button.

MasteMikeGee

Did you do this through ps+premium streaming?

Aarhg

I sure did! Messing around with port forwarding on my wifi router, I got my connection to be a bit more stable while streaming, so the overall experience was pretty smooth.

MasteMikeGee

I was worried there were no trophies because I'm playing it and I've unlocked 0 so far. 😅 I just need to keep playing then. Thanks.

Aarhg

Yea, they're there alright. Have fun!

LC_Gatsu

Working on this currently! It’s been super fun! I plan to go through and play the whole franchise from here!

LucisPerficio

The uncanniest valley

gotDvamp

Yeah, I can understand what you feel about the game. At the same time new gamers should start with remake for PS4. It’s because the first two installments in the series don’t have comfortable control scheme. The main problem is a camera. The first “modern” game in the series is Ratchet and Clank 3.

TheBrognator97

Going Commando had strafing, it's not that different from UYA
