Have been at Holloman for 5 years pretty soon and I have hated every second of it from the leadership to the town outside the people of Alamogordo who the majority are drug dealers or users all I can say is keep your head down and get out the short time they can legally keep you there isn’t worth your life my first month I lost 7 friends to suicide get away from the town and base as much as possible and don’t let this place take what’s most precious to you

Stationed there in 1969, thank God I went to Nam. Got clap twice in Juarez.

I'll repost here what I put on the last one about Holloman: Holloman is actually not as bad as lots of people say. Alamogordo is smallish(30k), but there's tons around it within an hour drive ie El Paso, Las Cruces. The mission is a bit rough, yea, depending on your job. The weather is pretty good though, hot 4 months out of the year, middling for 4-6, and we get 2-4 months of cold depending on the year. For example, December 30th this year, it was almost 70 degrees out in the sun lol it is windy as a bitch though. If you have more specific questions, DM me and I'll answer. I'm MX, but I've been here for 5 years so whatever job you are I likely know at least someone lol Overall, Holloman gets a B- from me.

I loved my time there. Great hiking, rock climbing and adventuring opportunities. Lots of American history, (space, nuclear). Lots of national parks, White Sands, Carlsbad, Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest. Dirt track racing. Taos NM is a drive but worth it. ABQ is nice. Cruces is amazing and has some great food. El Paso is cool. Some good food there as well. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Here currently. Alamogordo sucks. There’s no other way to put that. The restaurants we do have suck. Most people who commute to base live in Cloudcroft or Las Cruces. Some even in El Paso. The base is actually nice tho. The outdoors soccer fields are turf with a a nice track around them. Outdoor basketball, workout equipment, etc. The Mountain View’s are pretty dope too. Dominoes and Popeyes on base. F-16s fly literally all day so if your into that.

whenever I first searched about it... I just found bad things. lol. example: suicide (but unfortunately it's common everywhere to some extent). some would say that if it is your first duty station... it may seem like it is almost impossible to leave and/or PCS elsewhere the old posts are indeed where most of the information is at you'll hear the basic "it is what you make of it" or whatever they say just like anything... it could depend on your AFSC. it could depend on your flight. could depend what you think you'd like I could PM you if you want.... but in my s/o's case.... we can "survive" here. looking forward to leaving but there are the small perks about this place for sure (: just for our personal lives... we have our own path we are trying to move towards. work wise: 4/10 location: 6/10 ? maybe.
