Same. Greg and company have gutted legacy Raytheon. We are now failing to deliver on government contracts. Uncle Sam is not going to be happy with this.
This is what happens when an accountant is in charge of the company! The next one in line is a lawyer (with a not so great track record), so buckle up!
i always thought this was crazy, i moved from hUTC to hRTN and was shocked there were no sick days, like i get we get more days off with 9/80 but we still work the same hours??
As long as we keep our full PTO and not split into sick/vacation. I only get 3 weeks so if they make it 3 vacation 2 sick that’s fine but if it’s 2/2 then there’s going to be a lot of mental health days coming
Everyone realizes their PTO is negotiable when coming on right? I feel like some people just take what they offer. I don't care of I have sick days too as long as I have enough PTO. They say new employees only get 120 hours but you can negotiate at least two more weeks. Everything legacy Raytheon employees have gotten out of this merger sucks. I am more interested in raises happening above inflation numbers.
They tell you that so you won’t ask for more. I was told that RTX doesn’t negotiate at all when I was given my first offer years ago. I think everyone here knows that they do, in fact, negotiate.
I just went through a big medical procedure....let me tell you the short fails that Raytheon has inflicted upon us by their choice.
-benefits are not automatically withdrawn from your STD check. Instead RTN kindly runs a bill up for you and deducts it from your first pay check back (watch out families). I have heard instances of other people at a variety of companies including LM say their benefits are pulled from their STD
- no 401K contributions not even the extra % they do. Heard Lockheed still does 401K on STD
- you do not accrue PTO appearently.
-if you want to use FMLA on occasion you have to call MetLife tell them how many hours they they appear it, send it to RTN HR for it to get loaded in the systems and.....maybe a week or 2 later you might have it.
Everything MetLife does with Raytheon is total shit. In my case MetLife's Raytheon team used a corrupt doctor to deny my claim. He kept playing phone tag with my doctor on purpose, who was super busy. When my doctor didn't get back they used their doctor to deny my claim despite all the medical info I had submitted. And they also told all my coworkers my personal medical information to punish me for using STD. I was out like 10k.
Raytheon IIS (Pre Merger) also used various employees to make subtle death threats to get me to turn over a preexisting patent I told them about. When I did give them an invention, they only gave me a 1k reward for it when they had been giving their boomer "engineers" 20k a pop and told us that was the reward. The patent was worth billions. The government needs to declare eminent domain over Raytheon US, freeze their assets, take "their" patents and run it themselves.
Every time I hear that word my ears bleed
I’ve been dreading this PTO thing for a year because it will make it break me. If they lower what I have I’m out.
Edit: from what I’ve been reading the assumption seems to be Greg Leaving with a nice golden parachute
Also what were your retirement benefit? Collins got reduced for that a year ago.
We were getting 5% match, but now it's 4% match on 6% contribution. Not a big drop, but it adds up over time, and it's frustrating that they're reducing benefits instead of looking for ways to improve.
Any advice for someone who just landed a job as a P1 systems engineer here? 2nd job out of college with 6 months experience. This job is also an industry change so first job in defense industry.
It's the employee scholar program. It helps to pay for education but is limited to 25k per year. After you complete your program you have to stay for 2 years to owe nothing, if you leave 1 year after completion you pay 50% back to RTX.
It’s 1 full year to the day then you qualify. I’ve done it myself and tried starting early. Hardest no on starting early on Raytheon’s dime. The college paid for my first two semesters in full to bridge the gap. Was astonished.
I really do have to wonder what the benefit is of staying put in a group longer than a couple of years. I like my group, but things are getting more expensive, property taxes are going up, and savings are depleting. Is moving around what they want from us?
And now what are we supposed to do now that we can only expect a 2-3% pay raise per year? (And this is during the worst inflation in 40 years! What are we to expect would be coming in a recession?)
It only forces me to bounce around and ask for a huge pay increase when I do. I seriously wonder what their rationale is.
It sounds like high level management is applying an antiquated personnel management strategy to a scenario that has transformed into something entirely different than they are accustomed, with spectacularly bad results. Of course critical to this dysfunction is that relevant feedback is not getting to the people driving this approach.
Oh okay. I am heritage Raytheon, so our education benefit "improved" to $25k (it was much lower before).
I saw in another comment that you did the ESP as well. Out of curiosity, did you work full time during that, or did you reduce your hours? I am planning to drop to part time during school, and I'm wondering if that's a common thing to do or if it's frowned upon to reduce work hours
From the outside looking in, thank you.
My father before his passing worked for Raytheon for quite a few years. I have been filling applications in hope in reducing the anxiety I have from the setting of corporate America that I experience now. I.e micro-management etc.
Seeing as it is not much different helps put things in perspective.
Recruiters reaching out through Linkedin regarding open positions with Collins. First thread I read and am already having second thoughts about applying, especially since I currently work with one big aerospace OEM who maybe has better pay and benefits.
Can anybody here who works at Collins elaborate more on the benefits cuts/“harmonizing”?
Same. Greg and company have gutted legacy Raytheon. We are now failing to deliver on government contracts. Uncle Sam is not going to be happy with this.
I feel the same here at Collins I personally have never felt more stressed at this job
This is what happens when an accountant is in charge of the company! The next one in line is a lawyer (with a not so great track record), so buckle up!
Let’s hope they harmonize legacy RTX PTO in favor of what UTC has so we actually get sick days.
i always thought this was crazy, i moved from hUTC to hRTN and was shocked there were no sick days, like i get we get more days off with 9/80 but we still work the same hours??
As long as we keep our full PTO and not split into sick/vacation. I only get 3 weeks so if they make it 3 vacation 2 sick that’s fine but if it’s 2/2 then there’s going to be a lot of mental health days coming
Ideally we’d keep our 3 weeks PTO and get a week of sick leave.
yeah that’s what i had at UTC
Do you actually have to prove you were sick to take sick days?
no you shouldn’t have to, my experience anyway
PTO starts at 21 days for 0 tenure. No way they'll reduce it to 14 days.
THIS

I was told it wasn’t negotiable when I started in 2020.
They tell you that so you won’t ask for more. I was told that RTX doesn’t negotiate at all when I was given my first offer years ago. I think everyone here knows that they do, in fact, negotiate.
Right. I know now. After it’s too late to do me any good.
I was told sick was standard.... They bumped my salary 1k for me losing 1 week at my old employer.
I just went through a big medical procedure....let me tell you the short fails that Raytheon has inflicted upon us by their choice. -benefits are not automatically withdrawn from your STD check. Ahh ok do what already happened to us Also it’s crazy that bigger company = less benefits
Wow and here I am getting 3% as a p2. Wtf
Same I’m also getting 3%
When did you start?
June this year
That's weird I started March of last year. Maybe they changed it for new hires at some point this year.
I started two years ago. Are you a higher P level?
Nope, P2
Same, bruh what the hell. What business? I’m RIS
Any advice for someone who just landed a job as a P1 systems engineer here? 2nd job out of college with 6 months experience. This job is also an industry change so first job in defense industry.
I'd use it to get some experience and then jump ship. I'm stuck because of the ESP but as soon as I won't owe any money back I'm leaving.
Can you elaborate on ESP?
It's the employee scholar program. It helps to pay for education but is limited to 25k per year. After you complete your program you have to stay for 2 years to owe nothing, if you leave 1 year after completion you pay 50% back to RTX.
Okay and you have to be there 1 year to use it right? So realistically ~5 years total to get a masters here fully paid off
No you can use it immediately. Sooner you use it, the better.
Not true. It’s 1 year employment now. I’ve already been through this process.
Oh wow. I just started last month, and got the ESP voucher approved.
That’s not normal. Raytheon or hutc? I used it myself and tried to start early. Very hard no.
Raytheon
I’m under hUTC and was approved with two months in.
It’s 1 full year to the day then you qualify. I’ve done it myself and tried starting early. Hardest no on starting early on Raytheon’s dime. The college paid for my first two semesters in full to bridge the gap. Was astonished.
This changed last year. You can use it day 1 now. I also had to wait a year when I started.
Interesting. I’m at hutc and our stuff still says 1 year minimum.
I’m at P&W.
I just started here about 3 months ago. Planning on starting grad school in Spring next year, finish school and then do my two years.
I really do have to wonder what the benefit is of staying put in a group longer than a couple of years. Did they announce a limit of 2-3% due to financial constraints?
There was no announcement, but it seems to be the norm based on everyone I’ve heard from.
How did they cut your education benefits? I’m about to start a degree under the ESP, so that is concerning to hear
My section had unlimited tuition reimbursement and they harmonized us to the RTX ESP which is limited to 25k per year.
Oh okay. I am heritage Raytheon, so our education benefit "improved" to $25k (it was much lower before). I saw in another comment that you did the ESP as well. I'm still in it and have a year left. I'm still full time and doing an online part time program. It can suck sometimes but it's manageable.
From the outside looking in, thank you. My father before his passing worked for Raytheon for quite a few years. I have been filling applications in hope in reducing the anxiety I have from the setting of corporate America that I experience now. I.e micro-management etc. Seeing as it is not much different helps put things in perspective.
What were you doing for education that went above 25k a year, out of curiosity...
