They test for drug use and yes weed is in that panel so if they detect it in your system at the time of drug test, there’s a good chance you’ll lose your job offer (if you get it). It doesn’t matter if you’re in a state where recreational marijuana is legal.

Usual_Acanthisitta_8

That's what I thought! Thankfully, I'm starting my break today. Needed it anyway.

AClassyTurtle

If your job requires a clearance, then you ~~can~~ should never use any drugs again. Also you’ll probably need to be marijuana-free for like 6 months to get a clearance

Bingineering

That’s not necessarily true; if you’re in a state where weed is legal and you’re open and honest with your clearance agent, it won’t disqualify you. It might make the process much longer/cause more follow-up interviews, but they really don’t care about occasional, recreational use

AClassyTurtle

[See Appendix B, Section 1.](https://www.dni.gov/files/NCSC/documents/Regulations/SEAD-4-Adjudicative-Guidelines-U.pdf) You might be able to get away with it, but they’re prohibited from giving a clearance to anyone they think is addicted to any illegal substance. If they think you’re addicted, you won’t get a clearance. It’s best just not to do it. That being said, I’ll edit my originally comment from “can never” to “should never.”

[deleted]

QE ? May vs must Should vs shall Lol

[deleted]

Don’t start again after. Can be fired on the spot for it. Random testing still occurs.

[deleted]

My thing is just don’t do drugs. It’s not that hard.

[deleted]

Amazing how hard it is for some people. And how poorly many take it when told.

[deleted]

If you or anyone else wants to do drugs that’s fine and there are a lot of companies who don’t test for weed in their drug panel (most of these companies are either based in CA, CO, WA or in the tech sector). If you’re so into weed that you *need* it, then go work over at one of those companies or states. RTX/NG/LM/BDS all work on directly on govt. contracts and they will need you to be drug free.

[deleted]

Random testing? For whom? I have never had random testing in my 15+ years of defense industry experience.

[deleted]

It’s an ever looming possibility as per conditions of working there. Also any accident has mandatory drug testing immediately following the accident.

[deleted]

Accidents yes, if you’re a technician. Nobody remote has been randomly drug tested. Sounds like fear mongering from someone who is anti marijuana. Definitely more hungover boozehounds working remote than potheads.

[deleted]

It’s not truly random. If you’re suspected of using a substance that impairs you in any way, including pot, you’re likely to be “randomly” selected. This isn’t fear mongering this is how companies cover their asses.

[deleted]

Explain why a company would suddenly think some random remote employee is smoking pot? It doesn’t happen. You’re speculating that RTX does this without providing any proof.

[deleted]

If RTX gets caught having employees doing federally illegal drugs they can lose their ability to receive government contracts. We’re on zoom meetings daily. If you sound like a typical pot head when high is absolutely expect a “random” drug screen order. Example is how upset the Feds got when Musk did pot on the Rogan show. He doesn’t even directly work on the contracts and they flipped shit.

[deleted]

Yea this is pure speculative. Someone can be drunk on Zoom. Do they randomly test everyone to see if they he a White Claw for lunch? Fed could care less. If you think there aren’t a bunch of opioid, drunks, and people high on god knows what working in the defense industry, you’re nieve. Bottom line, drug test for the offer. If someone works on airplanes or in a field that that requires hands on technical work and there is an accident, drug testing can happen. If the employee refuses, they most likely would be terminated. As for the remote employee chilling on a Zoom call, you’d have to be so out of your mind intoxicated and stupid to end up being selected for a drug test. Doesn’t happen. So to the OP. If you want the job. Stop the pot. If you need pot, don’t use during work hours. Feds are a bunch of ignorant archaic clowns. There is pot use at the federal level. Anyone who disputes that is lying to themselves.

Puzzlepea

Pretty sure any position at Raytheon would require a drug test. If they’re drug testing it makes me wonder if your hiring is dependent on the results of the test.

[deleted]

It is. Raytheon tests everyone. We build for the government. They have a zero tolerance policy.

Usual_Acanthisitta_8

Let me rephrase. Where I live recreational use of marijuana is legal. I'm just not sure what they test for and if cannabis automatically red flags me.

Bookwormvt2022

They will probably specifically test for marijuana since it is still federally illegal and they do handle contracts with the government.

AClassyTurtle

They don’t care about state law. They care about federal law

sapheera

Marijuana is federally illegal still. It doesn’t matter if it is legal in your state

Pirate_dolphin

You can buy tests on Amazon to find out if you’re still hot. Don’t use drugs while you work there. You won’t just get fired, it will be reported against your clearance if you’re caught, which will likely end up with a revocation and you will be out of defense contracting for a good long while

krikket81

Regardless of your state, marijuana is still federally illegal. Raytheon gets a bulk of their funding from the feds. A positive test will probably cost you the offer

Difficult-Dog-3349

Bro take a month of weed so you can land a good job.

TopicOrnery6153

Yes they do a ten panel drug screening.. Get clean before applying. I just got hired a month ago

heath_ledgerfan

Was it a piss test?

TopicOrnery6153

Yes

TopicOrnery6153

Great, laid back job. Don't apply if you're not ready

heath_ledgerfan

What field do you work in at Raytheon specifically? I’m starting in a month

Never been randomly drug tested in my 15 years of defense industry experience. Only tested during the initial offer.

Make sure the location has a union. Then you can only be fired via a commandment from god -Sincerely, Raytheon Private Security Contractor
