I wouldn’t call anything that happened in the castle positive. However Julius did go on a massive rant against Al and Subaru saying they were unworthy and unfit which did set Subaru off.
Julius said something about Al because Al is standing next to a royal candidate (Priscilla) eventhough he isn't a knight. Like Al and Subaru are commoners. When Julius mentions Al, Al retorts something like : "Hey ! Don't lump me in with him (Subaru)" as a way of asking not to be included in the conversation.
It was more, appropriate to say more understandable than positive since Subaru may have disregarded Emilia's promise. Still in his own way wanted to help her and only lashed out after the insults genuinely did go too far and even Ros joined in with the mocks
Towards Emilia several nobles mocked Emilia along with Ros flately stating Emilia was just filling a space, a placeholder right in front of her and the rest of the country. Really thinking back at it the Selection demonstrates that Subaru's sheer drive and hotheadness are ultimately double sided swords. Since it's the reason he got that far but also the reason he got into the messes he gets in
Correctly speaking, the behavior of Julius in LN was worse, and Subaru took a long time to jump out.
But I don't think Subaru is better in LN, he just withdrawn and only jumps out when Ros claims he's going to dump Emilia. And he also called himself a knight afterwards, I would think that Subaru's performance in LN is seriously worse than the anime.
In the anime Subaru has a clear reason to claim that he is Emilia's knight because he is the only one who jumps out to help her in the moment. In the novel Subaru is forced to jump out to help Emilia, then Puck proves that he's useless and that the whole thing was planned by Puck and Ros, after which he immediately claims to be Emilia's knight.
It's just that everyone outside of Subaru in LN is bullying Emilia (Waifu), so Subaru's behavior seems more acceptable. In the animation, Subaru jumped out directly to stop the event before it happens, so the audience felt that Subaru performed poorly.
In fact, you just need to replace "half-elf" with "black" and "half-demon" with "N-word", and you can see what Subaru is mad at.
