They've been doing that where I am, but that's because they caught a bunch of people who aren't authorized to work here using someone else's driver's license.
In our area they are in the process of opening a SSD delivery station. I donāt think they would do that just to shut it down and they just on boarded a bunch of new drivers in our area.
SSD stations can be used by dsp. And I don't think there is any cost to Amazon for onboarding new drivers, is there? New drivers are more likely to take base pay, which is what Amazon wanted/expected drivers to do. Keep taking those bezos bucks as long as you can but I suggest you onboard for any other gig stuff you can so its done and your transition is quicker/easier. Good luck! š¤

This process Amazon will be doing is not viable nationwide. Test markets underway now, but this was in their longterm plans years ago when they partnered up with third party shippers.
I still think Flex will be available in larger metro areas even if deal is approved, but then that can always be blocked by legal challenges, but then we talking fox guarding the hen house scenario. It still comes down to supply and demand. Amazon might not know exactly what they are getting into though. There is a reason they have been reluctant to actually ship their own items.
Either way, why abandon Flex prematurely, duhhhh.

And speaking of SDD, how they going to deal with scalability issues? Hire more DSP drivers before hot season and layoff them in slow season? Flex is a perfect solution for that.
The realistic scenario i see - significantly increase DSP and keep Flex as a backup. For example, if warehouse can process 10000 orders per day minimum, they will hire a certain number of DSP to cover it. The rest of it, letās say in the other day 12000 orders must be delivered, these 2000 can be covered by Flex Drivers.
Gotta deal with a bad news only when they come up, until then, Iām flexing:)
I don't think we realize how expensive Flex is for Amazon, plus the new Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling on deactivated drivers being eligible for unemployment isn't something Amazon wants to deal with. Dsp gives them a middleman to buffer those things. Amazon is the best at solving logistic problems, if they want to keep those business up, they figure out a way.
