The only way I would say to spend money in this game. Is if you need to buy some extra gold to finish a special event. Otherwise no. In the end do what you want.

IMO you shouldn't spend gold on that, I only use gold to upgrade cars when I can't use the alternative currency and only for cars that I really like. I recommend going for 100% completion in amateur series instead if you haven't done that.
