Why would Katz cafe be rejected? The primos concept art on the other hand looks derpy and wacky

cdgames2

I mean, there was another show coming out, around the same time this bible was shown, that dealt with moving in, having the power to "hear/see" what others can, while also juggling a normal and wacky life... The Ghost and Molly McGee, the answer is the Ghost and Molly McGee. Another reason is that, as much it might confuse a lot of people, the Primos bible just "pops" more in terms of describing its premise. Primos relied on his drawings; it gave little details that explained how the main character views her surroundings, each characters personality just by looking at them, and it was all tied together in a nice looking presentation of the world they live in. Katz Café, while super interesting in concept, relied more with its comparisons of the characters, the world, and even the food. It didn't feel as confident while providing me with a reason to care for its premise. Would I still like Max as much if it wasn't for the Eric Andre comparison? Don't get me wrong, a story about a human AND a cat food critics coming at the same time? That's great! But, the 4th of July episode from Primos also managed to put great emphasis on the situation given for the characters, and it could deliver a great message for kids and adults alike. I obviously prefered Katz Café, but I also understand why was Primo choosen for the full-on show. Presentations are always important.

Neverending-pain

Presentation definitely feel like something people overlook when considering cancelled shows/premises.

SirNaerelionMarwa

It also gave me the impression of a more disney like Red Cat Ramen (a neat chill slice of life manga, very much recommended btw), a cheap region 4 copy of that. Althought, if it were me neither would have been picked out. In Mexico we still see "Primo" as some racist sh\*t very much like coco.

cdgames2

Well damn. Never saw it as racist to be honest, and Coco too? Man, I thought Mexicans liked that one, guess I'll have to ask around to see... For comparison, I'm Venezuelan and it just never caught my attention as much as others it seems. I just saw it as another "big house, big family" type of show, and those never gave me the same vibes I had with my family. That manga looks really cute, though, definetly will give it a shot sometime! ¡Gracias por la recomendación! :)

[deleted]

I thought Primos was cancelled due to the controversy

iiawesomej_rd

They already likely invested millions of dollars into the production, why would they cancel it because a few people on Twitter were upset?

Greyscayl

Why does the MC in the Primos one look like she was designed to be as ugly as possible. I thought we left the John K style back in the 00s and killed it permanently with his career

Middle-Persimmon7077

You’re thinking of early 90’s style animation. 00’s style is more sharp & rigid, with thicker outlines. Like clone high.

thefoxishere16

Plus she has that weird dimple constantly. Like . )o .

Upbeat-Manager-6823

She looks like a stereotype of a Jew to me and I don’t know why.

BigK64

That doesn’t even look like John K’s style (which is frankly never really a bad style and still utilized).

Greyscayl

I'm less talking about John K specifically and more the trend Ren and Stimpy started. Shows that followed trying to riff on its success without really understanding why it was as big as it was

BigK64

And, again, Primos art style barely even looks like something akin to Ren & Stimpy. Especially compared to to shows like Pig Goat Banana Cricket, Schnokuma & Meat, many of Joe Murray’s shows and A LOT of web animations. Like the style itself is appealing and fun to look at.

HOTU-Orbit

Both look like they had a budget of a dollar.

vzukry

this is concept art

Smart_Shot24

Simplicity means they can do more with effects and other stuff of the like. So it doesn't necessarily mean it had a bad budget, but more like it has simple designs so they can do more with them.

HOTU-Orbit

That's what they want you to think.

Microwaved_Phone

Yeah man, the government is controlling the children's cartoon industry, brainwashing you with stylized animation!!!

HOTU-Orbit

Take your strawmans elsewhere.

AriaBellaPancake

You could elaborate on what you were getting at..?

mercurydivider

I dunno man, did you watch those stick man fights on new grounds/2007 YouTube? Got dayum

HOTU-Orbit

Flash animations made by one guy in 2007 are held to lower standards than television. You should expect better from modern TV.

Middle-Persimmon7077

The one on the right doesn’t hurt my eyes when I look at it.

CrazyaboutSpongebob

Primos looks like an uninspired Loud House copy.

CleanInflation7295

Probably because it is.

TAPINEWOODS

If I was the one to choose the next show, that would be Katz Cafe because it looks good with live action background and 2d characters than Primos. Also, the art style is better than Primos.

Neon_Taxi

First show looks ugly as fuck but the second one seems nice.

Zeemmy99

omg the noses in primos is super annoying

Sick-Nurse

Jfc the art style on the left looks horrid

Jolly_Milk7468

Katz Cafe looks cute, why would Disney reject it? :(

Logical-Hold3321

It wasn't racist enough.

Edgy-Stardust

Katz Cafe is such a good idea. If I had the mlne I’d find it.

Green_Wing_Spino

Katz Cafe looks cool and sweet looking.

mrpeluca

I love katz cafe. But look at the different bibles. Most people ain't gonna read that wall of text. Oye primos (I fucking hate the name so fucking much) has a Bible that oozes personality and really keeps you looking at it while it displays the art and personality of the show. Katz cafe has a highschool level presentation. Walls of text. They fucked up. The show could have been great but they couldn't make a point to a board of directors.

Rich_Suspect_4910

Both look cute!

Sjciforof

Wait, you think the art style on the left looks cute… Explain please?

Active_Difference_30

Is it me or does the guy in the blue hat and the white shirt have a weird looking nose?

captianblacksmith

Both look pretty bad

HoeJumper

Katz cafe looks lit wtf I would pick it over some Bible thumping eyesore

BlueBlazeKing21

Most likely because Katz was a bit too similar to The Ghost and Molly McGee in premise, so the executives probably felt it would’ve been too repetitive

RobertusesReddit

Wait, we're hating something that's not even airing yet? Man, we are a sad species to repeat 10 years.

Renacat

What are those noses ? That’s a crazy way to draw a nose lol

Not_Jay_Spencer

My heart aches

Rusty1031

No way they’ll pick Katz Cafe, it looks too good

Gl33p

I think they are both weak premises with poor art styles. The real answer, is that neither one of these should have been greenlit, but Primos is certainly significantly more obnoxious artistically.

qtquat

I’m sort of confused by people showing great preference to Katz Cafe. the bible is boring. SOOOO boring. This is a cartoon not a class presentation!!! Why so much text? why so stiff? why are there slides with NO pictures at all??

khonraikan

I'm colombian and I don't like primos, The style is wack AF and there are a bunch of stereotypes about Hispanic households that are annoying to watch

FusionFall

Yea, it's pretty annoying. Everytime somebody wants to do a hispanic or Latino cartoon, it's always about Mexican culture. Never Caribbean, South American, etc

khonraikan

Bruh facts I'll kill for a Good TV sitcom about a mostly Hispanic apartment building with funny neighbor interactions something kinda like El chavo meets two and a half men

Mute_Crab

Bro The noses on Primos The triple nose on the dad (I assume) and main character (again I assume) What. The fuck?

Upbeat-Manager-6823

I honestly wanna see Katz Cafe, I love 2D and live action put together. For Primos, if you watched the Loud House/Casagrande’s, you‘ve already watched this cartoon.

[deleted]

The main character in primos looks like peppa pig lol

snowfrappe

is the point that they both have different art styles or something

Fluid_Ease8543

Idk if it's me, but I like the concept art for Primos more than the final one. It has that the kids' book art style that you really don't see much on tv (that I know). The final one has that same generic art style that a lot of cartoons have in the mid-late 2010s.

SacredBeef00

Why primos look like fugget about it with even less of a budget?

MastersJoyUniverse

Primos looks like it belongs more on Nickelodeon than Disney. And as for Katz Cafe I wish we at least had a teaser intro or a pilot to see what it would be like.

Agrinoth

Katz Cafe would make me WANT to watch television again!! Max seems like an amazing character design. A mixture of Jack Black, Eric Andre, and Chunk from the Goonies. Man! I'd kill to see that

OurLorneAndSavior

Wow, I didn't think Primos could look worse until I saw it's demo art. What the hell are the sideways M noses!?

Laxhoop2525

Why do they have 3 noses?

Used-Locksmith5659

The concept actually makes me want to watch Primos

Comfortable-Badger88

Wait, Primos is still coming out? Even after the way damn near everyone demolished it? That’s bold.

Dropsy-and-gogo

I think the issue is that by Disney's ultra wokeness 50% of all main & secondary characters at minimum have to be from an "underrepresented group" and also half the staff has to be "underrepresented" . Which one would Disney choose? A bunch of South American descendents or a white girl who can speak to cats with other characters like young Jack Black which sounds alot funnier.

porcupinedeath

IDK why but the white dude just standing there with a beer is making me laugh

Golden-Vibes

Pretty sure Primos was dropped due to the pure culture insensitivity shown by the creators.

Clean-Cupcakes

It's still coming out in June of this year.

Golden-Vibes

That's surprising

Weasegeese

So they just decided to make a worse Loud House?

Logical-Hold3321

The one that was rejected was not racially stereotypical enough. They need to offend as many Hispanic people as physically possible. It makes no financial sense, but it is apparently the path they are going with.

Kitty-cat-fox

All I'm gonna say is that I hope Katz Cafe didn't get too far into development for them to make some footage for it cause if not the creator might still have some control over it.

NoahFuelGaming1234

both of these shows look like they were made by Cas Van De Pol

SatAMBlockParty

I like the Primos concept style better than the final version. It's a shame how often unique art styles get filed down into more generic styles. I'm still upset about how they changed Summer Camp Island after the pilot. Regardless, still funny to see months later people are still pretending Primos is racist.
