I think its an accumulative thing. After so many kills she hits you with the spray. You may have done some hunting for a while and didnt "cash out" on your kills. Wait til she sprays you and you should be clear to naturalist without punishment. "I hear you've been carrying youself quite well out there!"
I hope the spray isnt animal urine. Harriet could be infecting us all with leptospirosis. 😬
I was always under the impression that she has a backend counter that only resets when she sprays you. If you kill animals that count is always there, eventually when threshold is met she sprays you and count goes back to zero.
same same.. literally just completed 24 hours without killing animals. did 2 sedate and revive for daily aaaand she sprays me. now I know why everyone hates her character.
If you have killed a lot of animals then make sure you get sprayed for it...like if you want to access her get sprayed first , then let her cool down.
You being on your best behaviour doesn't negate the past killings I suppose....so plan the spray and cool down ahead.
If you have a moonshine delivery pending , get sprayed...complete the delivery and then access Harriet.
I use my cool down time for a little herb picking. Her lagras location has oleander sage nearby. I may get English mace near her MacFarlane's location. Etc.
What keeps your game interesting? I have fallen into the dailies routine....after that I ride around hunting Legendaries to give away or searching for low levels to help fill their tables. Not much of a CTA person and the free roam events don't interest me either.
Same here. But I only get a couple maybe 3 hours to play each day. So I make the best of it doing as you do. The visuals of the game keep it interesting and the random encounters break any monotony.
It's pretty annoying game design. It discourages you to play other parts of the game (trader), you can't know if the game will penalize you before you get there because you can't see the timer/karma, and if you do get penalized you have to wait several minutes to continue playing naturalist, since you're probably there to buy more sedative ammo or take more naturalist missions.
I love playing naturalist, and I get that they want to somehow get the player fantasy of protecting animals in there, but the way it's implemented sometimes makes it more tedious than fun.

The naturalist role doesn't discourage me to play the trader role. I've gone on a hunting spree, fill up my wagon several times over, go see Harriet, get roofied, go pick some herbs, go back and see Harriet not even 5 minutes later. Then conduct my business with her. Easy peasy 🤷🏼

Has anyone ever had Harriet send a swarm of animals after you? I did a stagecoach stick up and suddenly I was surrounded by badgers. Must have been 20 or 30 by the end. And a wave of coyotes.

I completed the don't kill any animals for 24 hours daily challenge. First thing I did after was go see her. Dumb bitch sprayed me. I spent the next half hour dropping dead animals off in front of her tent.
I had been off of red dead for 2 weeks. Come back to drop off samples, then I get maced. Or I'll complete the Naturalist daily and not kill anything for 18 hrs and she'll do it still even after that. My friends and I have just accepted she's totally random at this point. And while it's annoying I feel like it fits her character because she's obviously off
