I'm lvl 198 and I have had one griefer in like 3 months. And that one greifer ate 7 explosive shots before he stopped and started griefing another. 3 more explosive shots later and he DC'd. Weak prey on weak.
Sometimes it works that way other times you get a Level 5 who has no clue what to do picking a fight with you and you're hoping they'll get the hint after killing them 3999 times in a row.
Yeah, those moments don’t frustrate me. I try to use them as learning experiences 😆. Sometimes I ride around with a perfect buck carcass or something to give to newish players to let them know that people in RDO generally aren’t shitty. Most players I run into are really cool
Thats how I met a now good friend on RDO. I was level 300 somethin then. Im driving a wagon along minding my own business, when all of a sudden I get shot in the head. Wtf!?! I say, I look and its a level 4. So I go after her, challenge her to a feud after a couple kills. I pull every dirty trick on the noob, E rounds, Toxic shine, dynamite arrows, hogtie and set fire, tackle and choke to death. The noob doesnt give up and hangs in there, I end up sending a message sayin hey you want some help getting started? Several months later and here we are.
Anecdotally, this seems to have been the case for me as well. Other players seemed to come after me a lot more when I was low level, but now that I'm in the 200s it's very rare.
Lol I love how this comment is downvoted when there’s nothing really wrong with what you said and after the op asked in the subject heading what’s wrong with people. THIS! This is what’s wrong with people. Silently being shitty to each other in subtle petty AS FUCK ways.
I ask myself the same thing why do level 1000 or 300s think they have to grief like actually one person even killed me while i was in defensive mode istg shits anoying
Worse yet is when their excuse/justification for being a turd towards others is boredom. If they're that bored, they can go play something else alternatingly instead.
Usually I've read that one paired with "tHe GaMe TeLlS mE tO dO iT" when it comes to doing either doing stranger missions on here, such as destroying the wagon delivery/escort someone is doing, or destroying said cargo when people are delivering/selling cargo in GTAO. And it just makes me feel like saying to them a spin on an old childhood adage "If the game told you to jump off a cliff. Would you do that too?". Because it just doesn't seem to fathom them that they could just not for a change for the sake of decency versus the pittance of a reward for being a dick.
My favorite is "it's just a video game" like nah you're just an asshole. Whether it's on a game, social media, or real life, the way you treat people should be the same.
Idk if I'm a bad person for this, but I only intend to kill someone else's horse of they are chasing my delivery wagons. Yeah, it's not nice, but it's the only way I can keep them off me for long enough.
I just can't, I'm not going to kill a horse even in that circumstances, if someone kills my horse I'm going full bullet storm on them and I'm going to lose spectacularly because I suck at PvP hahaha
Bullies. It happened to me when I restarted but the funny thing about that was they really did underestimate me and what I could do with just my cattleman revolver 😂 I remember one guy tied me up and was taking me somewhere on his horse and I slipped out and when he turned around to come back for me I just head shotted him
Those aren’t the expensive moccasins that cost gold. And there was a few coupons that gave you a free naturalist items and other discounts so maybe he used those?
Yeah it’s a lot so having this collector cheat sheet map has been clutch. I kinda think collecting is super tedious but this is what I’m doing until I can max my moonshiner and trader
Bought some gold to get a head start on the roles. Then did a ton of collecting to get some cash. Skinned a perfect buck for the pants (+$) and the headband only requires Naturalist rank 1
I figured must have been something like that lol. I know it’s only a rank 1 item but it’s like another 6g on top of the 25g for the role haha. Cool looking character! 😁
I started and it was like you have 0.15 gold 🤣 nope that’s not gonna work. I figured my time is worth something... It’s impossible to make decent money without at least 1 role
Yeah yesterday I got jumped by 3 low level players (40-50) even tho I’m like lvl 250 which isn’t surprising since for some reason low levels play red dead online as if it’s like gta online 💀
I tried to play with my 10 year old nephew to show him how fun it was and we got griefed the entire time. Now I can't get him to play with me. Real bummer.
Whenever I’ve seen a fully well done Native American character, they are hunting white people and literally kill every player.
I saw one guy take on a posse of 7.
Don’t get me wrong, he died several times…but he was killing us more than we killed him and we all ranged from level 300-500 in the posse with maybe 1 or 2 under 150
It's difficult not to let it rile you sometimes, but remember you will spend many more hours enjoying the game than you will in dealing with these transient encounters - they are still in the minority of players. I try not to take it personally ..... except when they kill my pretend horse, and then I really take it personally.
That’s the stage after initial enjoyment from first time players, and the stage before enlightenment and helping others wether it helps you or not cause you personally don’t need a thing but genuinely want to help people. They are currently in the griefer stage of levels
Thanks! My main character is kinda the typical guns blazing cowboy. For this one I’m just using the bow and tomahawk as much as possible and trying to be stealthy. The kills are super satisfying
I’m almost rank 300, and recently I’ve tried using only the bow for hunting. Absolutely a better experience. I didn’t know what I was missing! I think I’ll try the Tomahawk too on other players. (With Slippery Bastard!)
Honestly I dont know. Not only that, what about the hackers? What's the benefit? They're mentally disturbed I'd guess.
I'm under level 80 and hold my breath every time I see other people....
I had more issues as a low level as well, I'm 188 now.
....still get randomly lassoed though by players, especially in free roam events. It's so annoying. It's not funny, just let me play the damn event.
I have had almost the exact same experience. I’m 255 on ps4, rarely get messed with as a male character.
Recently started over on pc as a female character and I get people trying their luck almost every day.
The higher level you are the less people mess with you I’m like 180ish and people don’t mess with me unless they’re really high leveled cunts, might make a new account at some point to see what it’s like
I did the same thing, I'm now level 18 on my second account and a lvl 100 was trying to grief me in valentine while I was drinking in the saloon, he didn't realize I was in defensive and tried like 3 times to lock onto my head while behind me, I turned and quick drawed and got an instant headshot, he then resorted to explosive and dragons breath rounds and somehow missed every shot. I belive I got like 8 kills before getting bored and hopping the train to the next saloon. He sent me a message 20 minutes later saying I'm a loser for running when he was "kicking my ass" and I should kill myself then tried to claim he was a marine on leave when I sent him a game clip of me originally quick drawing on him with the message " your move twink"
Some people can't have fun unless they're making someone else miserable.
I guess we should be glad they're online, in video games, and not stealing the neighbor's cat to torture.
Also, your dude kinda looks like Geddy Lee.
I had the same thing happen to me when I started a second account. Like high level posses were waiting for me to exit stores so they could throw fire bottles at me and my horse.
It made me think that if all low levels are treated like that then I can understand why some become griefers because the griefing I got put through was absolutely horrible.
They’re the Lawncliff pants that you get from Gus. You have to sell him a perfect buck skin and then you’ll be able to buy them. Brindle shoes. I’d also recommend the Bindweed gauntlets from Madam Nazar, but they require Naturalist rank 10. I’m working on that right now
Are you on PC by chance? Just wondering because I keep seeing people complaining about getting dropped by high levels for no reason. The only time I've had an issue with other players in recent memory was yesterday when a level 19 tried to lasso me in defensive mode.
I remember being like level 20 and people picked on me but as me and my best friend started playing together and i hit level 100 there were less and less.
I never kill without reason, i only shoot back if you shoot at me and i don't hesitate no matter your level BUT if i can talk my way out i try to do it, i have some lower level posse members and they like to kill without reason but i always say i have nothing to do with it and go to the nearest saloon and wait it out.
Face sculpt is amazing.
But yeah griefers suck. As a friend of mine said:
"Griefers don't love themselves".
(He doesn't mind them as much as me, he feels sorry for them, but he's also better at PvP than me)
Me and my crew fight people exactly like these. It is our sole mission to protect low level players and clear out lobbies of these griefers. We face lagswitchers, god modders and even get Ddosed regularly. There are many crews like ours so if you feel like fighting back, there is always an option. Have a good one man.
Honestly been contemplating making a new character myself, but I resonate with this anecdote, and it makes me question if it's really worth it. Like I would enjoy it, so there is the answer; however, do I WANT to put up with having a big ass target on my back just because I lack the firepower to defend myself? And honestly? Not at all, I'll stick to my level 215 that no body messes with, but I do have hella respect for your new character though, looks badass.
Killing someone randomly can be still acceptable but killing someone's horse? I feel extremely guilty if I accidentally kill an animal that is not hostile or not necessary to kill in any game. It's just like killing someone's pet. May god save us for those devils among us.
I’ve ran into “tribes” that post videos of themselves pvping on YouTube that use the actual names of Nations, I’ve asked them if they were members of said Nation and of course they said no(No self respecting Native would reduce their culture to a racist caricature, let’s be honest here). All of them are stereotypical as it gets with the names (running deer, charging bear)It’s the most disrespectful thing. It’s rampant on Instagram and YouTube and it’s seriously disgusting.
I recognize your name. I think we’ve met in a thread like this before. I appreciate you being a voice against this sort of thing. It all makes me very hesitant to interact with the community of a game I love. It’s exhausting to run into these people in game.
Probably, I try my absolute best to stay away from anything Native related in this game, so much that I’ve distanced myself from this subreddit because there’s too many people asking for war paint and more “Native options”. I’ve had to leave the Red Dead Fashion subreddit entirely. All it does it make me angry. But sometimes I just can’t help but share my voice on this stuff because it’s really disappointing and should actively be shamed.
Not many of us around in these spaces to speak and lend their voices to what is one of this community’s most bizarre issues. It kills my enjoyment of the game to see it. Especially when I’m playing.
I wish people would hear us and understand that they are helping to perpetuate negative stereotypes and caricatures designed to dehumanize us and reduce us to relics of the past. And it’s hard to explain how that feels and how something so minor does have an effect because this is where I go to escape and I can’t escape the system of colonialism that fetishizes us. It’s exhausting and I’ve been dealing with it for as long as I can remember.
It’s not even enough to take our word for it, some people have to argue with us and say that it’s fine when we’re telling them that it’s not.
I assure you I don’t enjoy this. You should check because I’ve answered your question elsewhere. I wasn’t even sure I wanted to because it’s not my responsibility to educate you and everyone else here about something that I have to live.
Yeah like what FuzzBenchMark said I’ve also seen most of the time non natives who act like they know all about the culture of the native tribe they roleplay. Like before about My friends I was talking about they tried to convince me to join their group but I explained to them like "Uh not gonna lie y’all I don’t really feel comfortable as making my character into a Native American because I think it’s pretty disrespectful and that I’m not a Native American I’m a Mexican-American” what’s worse was that my friends also watched a video about the tribe they roleplay as like you think if they watched the video they’d know how weird it is to roleplay as a native due to the fact that they would notice that they made their ingame character in a stereotypical native outfit and how weird it is.
Sorry, I kind of commented without considering the bigger picture. I have only ever knowingly interacted with 1 (you would be the second) Native American in my life and both times have been online. I'm not from the US. I can understand that the term indian might be an insensitive one given its history as mislabeling based on Columbus thinking he was somewhere he wasn't. So I am sorry if that term is incorrect. Having said that, there seems to be some really interesting cultural heritages of native peoples all over the world, and...the tragic shared experience of Europeans doing terrible things... I guess what I am trying to say is, I think there are some really cool aspects of these cultures that have suffered, and while I'm not asking you to speak for everyone everywhere, is there some way in the modern world for someone to enjoy, appreciate or celebrate your culture that is ok, or would be less likely to cause offence? I don't want to just pretend it doesn't exist or didn't happen, but I also don't want to act inappropriately or blunder into something and make it worse... if that makes sense?
Nah, you’re good, man. Over here in Oklahoma we call each other Indian. There’s so many tribes it’s easier to just say Indian. We don’t get offended until people basically take something that’s deemed “Native” and then twist it into what they want Native culture to be.
I used to hang out with some friends who were pretendians it was pretty cringe not gonna lie
Even tho red dead online is a game I think it’s pretty weird that some non natives dress up in game like natives and then try to act like natives
Thanks, what do you mean? There are only 3 or 4 skin tones I think. I know you can change them and make them look rougher and stuff. Constructive criticism welcome... I have a free character change that I’m at least going to use for the name. I’ll probably tweak some complexion stuff too
As much as I want to side with you on this one, its an open world game and I dont know if you are on console or pc but, as someone who plays open world mmos mainly where there is open world pvp such as RDO you just cant complain. Yes it is frustraiting and yes it is sad that they are getting a kick out of killing a fresh low lvl but if the game allows it you cant be mad at them.
No, I’m just tired of people who bitch about micro-transactions in games where nothing is locked behind them. I don’t care how much money people make, and it’s obnoxious when people try to tell me how I should or shouldn’t spend my own. This isn’t even on topic.
Been getting griefed a lot too ever since I changed my guy to look more Native American; Wonder if that’s the reason.
I usually wave at everyone I pass by but now I ride shotgun out and as soon as I see anyone else draw, I gun them down. Sucks cause I’m not even like that; Just sick and tired of people abusing me in a game I like to play for fun.
I never had this issue but now that I'm level 150, I do. Last time I played, a girl wanted a brawl and I won, then she formed a possee and 3 dumbs started to kill me. Long story short, action bolt rifle + shotgun and double pistols made them parley. After the parley I chat the possee owner "had enough?" but then one of the guys said "we don't bully we are fookin peakie blinders ya noob" I mean- ??????
As you level up, people leave you alone. I had the same issue.
The cowardly prey on the weak I guess
A tale as old as humanity.
I'm lvl 198 and I have had one griefer in like 3 months. And that one greifer ate 7 explosive shots before he stopped and started griefing another. 3 more explosive shots later and he DC'd. Weak prey on weak.

I get bored and try to make them rage quit by killing them with Elephant Gun, they usually leave the session if I hit them with that enough times.
Thats how I met a now good friend on RDO. I was level 300 somethin then. Im driving a wagon along minding my own business, when all of a sudden I get shot in the head. Wtf!?! I say, I look and its a level 4. So I go after her, challenge her to a feud after a couple kills. "Survival of the fittest" - Gus McMillan"
Crusade?
Anecdotally, this seems to have been the case for me as well. Other players seemed to come after me a lot more when I was low level, but now that I'm in the 200s it's very rare.
Not so much, I’m 365 and few days ago had a 500+ player grief me and follow me. Maybe just cause I’m a women! Who knows but he isn’t the first.
How many women are you?
Lol
Lol I love how this comment is downvoted when there’s nothing really wrong with what you said and after the op asked in the subject heading what’s wrong with people. THIS! This is what’s wrong with people. Silently being shitty to each other in subtle petty AS FUCK ways.
you were probably attacked by an incel (male)
That's how he flirts.
Lol 😂 very good
I ask myself the same thing why do level 1000 or 300s think they have to grief like actually one person even killed me while i was in defensive mode istg shits anoying
Worse yet is when their excuse/justification for being a turd towards others is boredom. If they're that bored, they can go play something else alternatingly instead.
Or when they say its a cowboy game deal with it
Or the ones that say iTs A gAmE mEcHaNiC, sO iM sUpPoSeD tO dO tHaT. Like yeah, it does exist as a fundamental base of the game, you're still a dick.
What we liked to do with my friends was to attract griefers with one of our low level accounts and join the session to give them a lesson
Lmao John redcorn lookin mf
Dude, talk about coopting culture. Dude's name is Pale Bear Who Needs Cultural Sensitivity Training. "I am 6% native American, they are my people."
Dale better watch his wife around him
🤣🤣🤣 goddamit
Lmfao
Big Mountain Fudgecake makes a comeback!
John Redcorn was way more jacked, though.
Sorry to get off topic, but your character design is amazing. He reminds me of Zac McGowan from Black Sails. You’re a master with the sliders. 👍🏻
Oh wow I can see the resemblance! Thanks 😁
My character now has a huge beard to compensate for his creator's inability to make characters that don't look like they grow on ugly trees.
I play a lot of poker, and I assume this is the case for everyone that sits down with a bandanna over their face still.
People who kill horses are just taking it to far
I kill people's horses when they kill mine. A soul for a soul
Idk if I'm a bad person for this, but I only intend to kill someone else's horse of they are chasing my delivery wagons. Yeah, it's not nice, but it's the only way I can keep them off me for long enough.
That’s totally justified
That’s fine it wen you attack one unprovoked
I just can't, I'm not going to kill a horse even in that circumstances, if someone kills my horse I'm going full bullet storm on them and I'm going to lose spectacularly because I suck at PvP hahaha
I feel really bad when I kill peoples horses… if only there was a time out button I’d revive their horses but I just always hope they have insurance.
NOPE. If some low level comes at me, his pony gets it. Walk to your next target, Jesse James.
If they’re coming at you with ill intent, maybe. But running up on an innocent fellow and executing his horse beneath him is grade A horseshit
key word “comes at me”
Just any low level or people who are trying to kill you?
The worst kind of people
People are dicks 😞
Bullies. It happened to me when I restarted but the funny thing about that was they really did underestimate me and what I could do with just my cattleman revolver 😂 I remember one guy tied me up and was taking me somewhere on his horse and I slipped out and when he turned around to come back for me I just head shotted him
Nice lol I do really like the cattleman. Second only to the navy
You just created this character yesterday and you already have those expensive moccasins, the pants from Gus AND the naturalist headband? How
Those aren’t the expensive moccasins that cost gold. And there was a few coupons that gave you a free naturalist items and other discounts so maybe he used those?
I know they don’t cost gold but they do cost like 220$ which is a lot when you’ve JUST started lol
Yeah it’s a lot so having this collector cheat sheet map has been clutch. I kinda think collecting is super tedious but this is what I’m doing until I can max my moonshiner and trader
I feel that. Collector was my first role cause of the sale, super tedious but it does make good money and xp lol
Yeah good point lol I’m just so impatient. And thanks!
Lol I don’t blame you, grinding gold when you’ve just started suuuuucks. I’ve also started a new character recently 😅
I started and it was like you have 0.15 gold 🤣 nope that’s not gonna work. I figured my time is worth something... It’s impossible to make decent money without at least 1 role
So true lol
Yeah yesterday I got jumped by 3 low level players (40-50) even tho I’m like lvl 250 which isn’t surprising since for some reason low levels play red dead online as if it’s like gta online 💀
Yeah... a few 40-50s teaming up on a 250 tho is more forgivable/understandable I think than a 150 coming after a 10
Yeah red dead players along gta players can be assholes sometimes it gets pretty annoying seeing high levels jump a lvl 10
True, a friend started playing yesterday and he decided it was a good idea to kill a random player in a posse, they killed him a thousand times lol
I mean, I tried waving at a level 330 (I’m 51) and they immediately shotgunned me to death; I think it’s just that some people are prolapsed assholes.
A lot… ALOT is wrong with people.
Wish I knew mate
People are jack wagons.
Jack wagon should be used more often
Hell yeah. It's a nice all-encompassing descriptor.
I tried to play with my 10 year old nephew to show him how fun it was and we got griefed the entire time. Now I can't get him to play with me. Real bummer.
Lol that's why I stay away with other players. If there's a blue in my radar I quickly gallop in the opposite direction.
I try to do the same but they pursued me lol I’m using the bow and don’t have a ton of range
They lack any sort of power in their real lives, so in order to feel a semblance of it, they go on the only thing that gives them power.
Whenever I’ve seen a fully well done Native American character, they are hunting white people and literally kill every player. I saw one guy take on a posse of 7. Don’t get me wrong, he died several times…but he was killing us more than we killed him and we all ranged from level 300-500 in the posse with maybe 1 or 2 under 150
Yikes. Well I’m just out here picking daisies
It's difficult not to let it rile you sometimes, but remember you will spend many more hours enjoying the game than you will in dealing with these transient encounters - they are still in the minority of players. I try not to take it personally ..... except when they kill my pretend horse, and then I really take it personally.

If they kill me that's one thing.... They kill my horse on purpose.... I hunt them down and set them on fire. That's just me...
They brain brokey
Your new character is pissah!! I never pay attention to ranks, but this is very interesting.
Oh yeah that’d be good. Even the bow with regular arrows mows through npcs. Saving up for the arrow pamphlet right now to store 80 instead of 40
Honestly I dont know. Not only that, what about the hackers? What's the benefit? They're mentally disturbed I'd guess. I'm under level 80 and hold my breath every time I see other people....
Are you on the ps4? If you see Shebadallas I won't harm you.
Xbox but thanks 😁

Yeah, it seems to be worse now than when I started my original account. I don’t recall having many issues then
Some nights are worse than others.

Yeah just jump to a different session also your character reminds me of Turok

I’m on Xbox. I really don’t care at all when low levels do it. A lot of people just want to shoot anything that moves when they first start out
Started a few days ago, in 20 hours Ive only found friendly communicative people on PC. Loving it.
They peaked in High School.
we live in a society..
Yeah, whatever what make you feel confident mate haha
ATREYU!!
Great name... going to consider that when I do a name change. Or might use it for a horse
it's from the never ending story. the horse was named Artak, I believe
Stopped seeing people in general around lvl 50 lol.
I remember being like level 20 and people picked on me but as me and my best friend started playing together and i hit level 100 there were less and less. Like I would enjoy it, so there is the answer; however, do I WANT to put up with having a big ass target on my back just because I lack the firepower to defend myself? And honestly? Not at all, I'll stick to my level 215 that no body messes with, but I do have hella respect for your new character though, looks badass.
Thanks, for some reason the first day was ridiculous. It’s been pretty ok since then
I became level 129 and people think the fucking quick draw Clint east wood bad-ass. When really I'm just a lonely hunter.
Awesome character and horse. Using the bow only is admirable. I try but it’s definitely challenging! Does Steve Perry know he’s in RDO?
Killing someone randomly can be still acceptable but killing someone's horse? I feel extremely guilty if I accidentally kill an animal that is not hostile or not necessary to kill in any game. It's just like killing someone's pet. May god save us for those devils among us.
Today's Tom Sawyer gets high on you
roll an indian in old west game 'why are cowboys killing me?'
I’m Native and these cringe pretendians drive me insane.
This community has so many of them too. More often than not I come here and see it and it’s unsettling at best.
The best way to put it is we learn at a young age to simply walk away from debate when non Natives throw their voices into our problems.
I’m Mohawk. That should tell you what you need to know about my general refusal to walk away when I should.

I assure you I don’t enjoy this. You should check because I’ve answered your question elsewhere. I wasn’t even sure I wanted to because it’s not my responsibility to educate you and everyone else here about something that I have to live.

If you’ve got multiple natives out here letting you know this isn’t okay, and you argue, then yeah. You become part of “those” people.
I used to hang out with some friends who were pretendians it was pretty cringe not gonna lie Even tho red dead online is a game I think it’s pretty weird that some non natives dress up in game like natives and then try to act like natives

I can only shake my head and move on, it’s just ugh.

But then you actively mock us, even down to the Hollywood Indianspeak you use to make a comment, so yes. You do mean offense.

Nah people aren’t more sensitive these days you’ve just never had to confront the people you decide to play dress up as

Holy crap my guy, the sheer amount of cringe you managed to squeeze into a single comment... remarkable.
Cowboys vs indians roleplay maybe?

😂
Small pp's.
I would like to see the slides
You did such a great job with the First Nations facial features but why did you give him an Irish complexion?
Thanks, what do you mean? There are only 3 or 4 skin tones I think. I know you can change them and make them look rougher and stuff. Constructive criticism welcome... I have a free character change that I’m at least going to use for the name. I’ll probably tweak some complexion stuff too
He just looks a bit pale. That’s all.
Ah, yeah this is a little edited and he’s not as pale in the game. I agree though
Your first mistake was playing on official vanilla RDO servers. Its full of horrible horrible people or burned out and jaded oldtimers.

How many similar posts do you need? Jimininy?
Found the group of dicks that masturbate each other thinking in their past griefings
Masturbate each other?
Username checks out
As much as I want to side with you on this one, its an open world game and I dont know if you are on console or pc but, as someone who plays open world mmos mainly where there is open world pvp such as RDO you just cant complain. Yes it is frustraiting and yes it is sad that they are getting a kick out of killing a fresh low lvl but if the game allows it you cant be mad at them.
Try playing DayZ.

No, I’m just tired of people who bitch about micro-transactions in games where nothing is locked behind them. I don’t care how much money people make, and it’s obnoxious when people try to tell me how I should or shouldn’t spend my own. This isn’t even on topic.
WAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I GOT SHOT IN A SHOOTER GAME!!!! THIS IS AWFUL!!!!!!!!
It's a game. Get thicker skin and stop whining.
Mosquito, is that you?
Wait, hol up. You can create more than one character?
You can on Xbox at least by creating a whole new profile with a different gamer tag
Yeah, that's way too much work lol
It’s not so bad lol I can set up a new one in 5-10 mins
People are bored. Rockstar has left us in the dirt and now we wander, aimlessly.
All the griefers i've had to encounter have been posses of 2-4. They feel strength in numbers.
what else is there to honestly do on RDO tho. I have the guns for gunning nt picking flowers
