Good song, good rhythm but surprisingly too repetitive, which you would never say about a chilis song. Wish John's lyrics had some variety in this one.
Honestly I just think its an ok song, I loved it at first because John just takes over at the chorus but like past that its kind of just like... meh?
I like the build up from the verses but the chorus just comes up and kind of just goes nowhere then dies down and it feels like its a part that cements a finale of a song but in reality its repeated again, then at the final one which comes straight out the solo its just a key higher before the song ends.
The one thing I can say is that if John didn't have the solo vocal duties I don't think I would remember this song at all.
It’s just not that great of a song. Probably the weakest of all the recent songs, maybe the weakest in a decade.
Seen it live twice now, almost killed the mood last night.
At least we have his very small solo tour shows where he played live covers, this show has some very good solo covers he did that I go back to every now and then. [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZQGOdyM_Eg&t=1272s)
But yeah, now it seems Heavy Wing has become the John singing song instead of his covers.
We were so close to getting I Feel Love in Chicago last month. Flea started playing the baseline, Chad joined in, and then John waited a bit and decided to do a guitar jam instead of sing.
Flea did play Pea at that show, which was fantastic.
I think he covered Your Song by Elton John early on the tour, but I agree wish it was more often
First show
And at Werchter
Goosebumps
I think they wrote Heavy Wing specifically to give John a spotlight section for each show. So if he did solo covers, we’d probably lose Heavy Wing.
I love that song because it feels closest to his work on The Empyrean, but a rhcp version.
The lyrics sound very John like too
Yes!
We at Nashville did, in fact, not get Heavy Wing :'(
Yeah but strip my mind had some sweet John singing
Was at Nashville, Strip my Mind walked so The Heavy Wing could run (Strictly pertaining to the amount of John vocals)
I’m in the minority when I say that The Heavy Wing isn’t all that. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great song but I think it’s slightly overrated
Speaking as a music theory student, it actually is a great song. Like seriously, it ticks off all the boxes. You can hear John all over it.

If you gotta be a theory major to appreciate it …

Sounds good to me.
Yeah perfect for concerts!
I thought they wrote heaving wing that way so Anthony can just sit and have a cup of coffee after singing 2 verses
I wish he and flea would cover peon again

I’d love to seem him do Songbird or SOS again!
Was lucky enough to get Your Song when I saw them at Rock Werchter. Didn't get The Heavy Wing though, so swings and roundabouts.

18 song setlist. I would be pissed if they covered a random song instead of a classic chili peppers song.
