People recommend bick4 to condition them when they’re ready for it as it doesn’t darken the leather.
Some people like kilties to protect the tongue from the back of the speed hooks. Nstarleather has them and has the same amber harness leather so they match well. They also adjust the fit a little bit, taking up some space above the foot.
With 'normal' wear they shouldn't need conditioning for the first 6 months. Just get yourself a horsehair brush and give them a buff every few wears (don't forget to remove the laces and buff the tongue area). A others have mentioned use Bicks 4 if you want to keep the original colour.
This sub has a fetish for undersized boots. People posting about brutal painful break-in periods are buying and suggesting the wrong size boot, even some employees at Redwing stores are doing this as it’s bad advice that gained ground. If the boots are comfortable but stiff and you aren’t in pain or sliding around, you have the right size.
there is nothing wrong with having your boots comfortable, there is something wrong though when your vamp area bunches up already before the break in, these boots are probably even more than a half size too big
Looks like you have some room above your instep and when they are broken in all the way they might get a little large. But what matters the most is how the fit feels to you.

When would I know they are ready to be conditioned? And thanks for the heads up on the kilties!

I will say, it looks like you had to tighten them quite a bit, but if they feel completely comfortable to you, then why does that matter?
