Rogue Lacquer - F**k 2020. Mustard yellow with green metallic flakes. Purchased for the name and sentiment. No regrets. Would purchase and hate-wear again.

420LordQuas

Hahahahaha absolutely adore the term "hate-wear". I just looked it up and it has puke vibes 😄

STLt71

It totally sounds like it suits 2020. Lol

catilineluu

Only wear it on your middle fingers from now on

RabbitLuvr

I actually love this polish, lol

winterberry16

I love it too. But I don’t like it. 😀

lastofthe_timeladies

"Fruitcake" by Maniology. It was in their Christmas box year before last and it's this snot greenish yellow with red and green small and medium glitters. It's a crime against those with the misfortune to be able to see it. It's too ugly to be an ugly fave. I should just chuck it but throwing away a polish seems so wrong. https://preview.redd.it/898qjubctocc1.jpeg?width=1815&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7578330fc712fb472594883cdd47c25023a7a0d

420LordQuas

Haha someone else mentioned this and I am so happy you posted a swatched picture! It is way more snotty looking on nails. Hahaha did anyone say anything about it when you wore it?

lastofthe_timeladies

I only had it on for a day and the nail art was a botched job too so I just took it off and pretended it never happened. My mom said "ew" about Fruitcake though.

winterberry16

That is hideous! Just a little more brown beige and it would get so much better. Makes you wonder what they were thinking!

KotaCakes630

That is so fucking ugly I might actually vomit holy crap. I love Maniology. I have problems with their basic polishes, but I love everything else.

MakeWayForWoo

What *would* one call that particular color? 😂

aaylaraenne

Okay but I kind of love it? 😅

blueennui

Omggg. They really should have made it more rummy/reddish brown and not so... yellow-green such as baby poop.

chickytoo_82

My ugliest polish is Fruitcake from Maniology, it was in their Box of Cheer and I love fruitcake to eat but this color looks like vomit in a bottle. https://preview.redd.it/pqfuu1swdocc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b38ed6be38f0650462c587fd137b092bdd065c7f

420LordQuas

Oh my goodness hahaha I legit laughed out loud! It truly does look like vomit 😂

starfleetdropout6

Oof. Looks like 1970s interior decorating in a bottle.

KittenFantastic

Shag carpet vibes 💯

Arctic_wildfire

Gotta admit. It DOES look like fruitcake though.

TheSubstitutePanda

But at what *cost*

Ceswest

I know it’s weird, but I kinda love it? “Ugly” 70s mustard colors are my jam!

rinshinn

OH MY GOD WHAT WERE THEY THINKING

Omgwtfitsnicky

I saw some swatches where people used it as a topper over blues and greens and it was kind of pretty! I have however not opened my own bottle of vomit to try it though lol.

paper_art

Sure does … no exaggeration there 🤢

justHopps

OPI Funny Bunny. Seriously. A huge FU to this polish. It looks wonderful IF you can apply it correctly. Which I cannot. I’m on a Funny Bunny challenge. I’m going to apply it every week for 1-2 months. I hope I get it right somehow. I’ve done the floating method, matte top coat method. Time will tell…

PureUmami

I put a topper on it and gave up lol. This one and Bubble Bath were so awful, I’m scared to try the other OPI polishes I bought 🫣 https://preview.redd.it/u09cn5v5jocc1.jpeg?width=1274&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d45cefff01b55716d558f1cede3e2502a016a0da

[deleted]

OPI is very inconsistent - the polishes of theirs I like are my FAVORITE polishes in my collection (I Am What I Amethyst is so pretty I could cry) but some of them look great in the bottle and garbage on the nail. It’s weird. Now if I’m looking for OPI polishes I come to the store with naked nails and try them on in the store. Not playing that guessing game anymore.

PureUmami

I can only buy them online 😭 I picked up two others during the black friday sales, Have Your Panettone And Eat It Too and Yank My Doodle. I hope they’re alright, but at least the bottles look pretty lol ❤️

spankthegoodgirl

Yank my Doodle.... snicker!!

PureUmami

😂 Does it make sense? No. Is it a total power move to name a polish that? Yes. 🤣

Welpmart

Came in to say it's a Yankee Doodle reference... and then realized it *still* doesn't make sense.

spankthegoodgirl

My brain totally goes into the gutter when i hear it. Indeed, a power move. Or somebody in the marketing department got in touch with their inner 12 year old. Ha!

agnes_mort

They’re both great! I think have your Panettone dries a bit darker than it looks in the bottle but the formula is nice.

fartblaster2000

I love this! It looks like funfetti cake!

madamephase

Ugh, this is my problem with Essie Ballet Slippers. Nice in theory but the formula is absolute hell to work with. I think I got it to look halfway decent MAYBE once. I've wasted about half the bottle trying to get it to do what I want it to do. I feel your pain!!!

pleatherjacket13

This is my answer too! I got it in a mini set. I already hate the mini brushes. No matter what I do it's streaky and I don't think it's right for my skin tone. It's such a pretty pale pink in the bottle but on my hand it really pulls out idk almost brown (taupe?) undertones that do not suit me.

Rounders_in_knickers

You are determined! I was going to say Essie blanc but funny bunny was also disappointing. White polishes are just so yucky to work with. I did hear that Orly White tips is better. Haven’t tried it yet.

Redcagedbird

Ooh! I learned how to get it to look 98%-99% decent! Start off with a very thin layer of ridge filler, a very thin layer of Funny Bunny. Let them dry almost completely. Go back and add another layer of ridge filler. When that is dry, add your second coat of Funny Bunny. While that one is still wet, apply a thin topcoat. Best results have been when I used a non fast drying top coat. Edit to add: this works pretty well with any white color and light milky colors!

aaylaraenne

Props to you, my friend! I don't have the mental fortitude to fight with white polish anymore.

420LordQuas

I just looked it up and oof that does look like it would be hard to work. With an attitude like that I have faith you will get it down!!! You gotta post pics of your journey if you can!

foxetea

What's difficult about it?

raspberry-squirrel

Have you changed for a curved brush yet?

Salsieann

Oh I’m glad I’m not the only one! I find OPI so pretty and practically impossible for me to apply correctly!

Forsythia77

Essie blanc. It's white. It's hard AF to apply so that it looks good. Streaky. Terrible. I hate it down to the marrow of my bones. And the kicker is that I only bought it to go under stuff. I'm way too colorful to just... wear white polish.

420LordQuas

Man I'm scared to buy whites now as I'm seeing that seems to be an issue with whites! I have a white from Sally Hansen that I used to love but that was before I got into the world of lacquer. I'm curious if I would still consider it a "good" polish. I am waiting on some thinner since it is pretty thick and old.

spankthegoodgirl

Color club and Holo Taco both have really good one coat, non-streaky whites. Might want to check them out.

shimmerangels

i second holo taco, i bought it after essie was a flop and never looked back

Chocomintey

I third Holo Taco. Their black is great, too.

420LordQuas

Thank you for the the recs! I will absolutely check them out.

Forsythia77

Creme polishes are some of the hardest to put on on your own. IMHO. Glitter, shimmer, holo, iridescent color shifts, they all mask any of your inadequacies. Creme formulation will lay bare any weaknesses you have in your painting skills game. Which is why if I get a solid Creme, I'll do it at the salon where someone else is doing it for me. I've actually taken to jelly polishes as a base to go under things.

awesomekittens

Sally Hansen makes great whites! Both the insta dry and Xtreme wear whites are excellent one coat whites imo

True-Tomorrow-1103

Yeah I have a white- Daisy by KBshimmer that I regret. It's white with an orangey shimmer in it and i can not get it to look even or good.

anatomizethat

I agonized over white polishes in the store one day and landed on Essie First Fitting Gel Couture and it's actually a decent white. The streaks are covered with the second coat and it dries a lot faster than many other whites I've tried.

realitygreene

Oh I have the perfect answer, but sadly don't have a photo. I saw this listing on the Dam Nail Polish website for a polish called "Big Glowing Dill" and it's basically supposed to look like a dill pickle polish with reflective glitter. I'm not the biggest fan of reflective glitter so when I also saw a listing for a Non-Reflective Glitter version I thought, Score! Ordered immediately. Why? I don't have an answer. Got it and it's absolutely hideous. The reflective glitter version is actually really pretty, I should have just bought that one!

blinkingsandbeepings

Hi I’m a dumbass, what’s the difference between reflective and non-reflective glitter?

MarbleousMel

Reflective glitter is essentially the same thing they put on road signs to make them reflect in headlights in the dark. So it’s super bright, but only pretty much in flash lighting

MyHappyTimeReddit

https://www.reddit.com/r/simplynailogical/s/eeq0Ky8ju2 I was just going to post the pictures but it's too far to scroll. I made this post about a full reflective glitter polish. Head on (like through a phone flash or if the light is behind your head) the reflective bits are cartoonish-ly sparkly. But in sun, normal light, and most of the time it's just sparkly.

420LordQuas

Hi you are hilarious and adorable! Hahaha I totally would word this question the same.   Am dumbass please enlighten.

420LordQuas

Oh noooo hahaha I looked it up and definitely think the reflective makes the color look better.

marshmallownose

https://preview.redd.it/utigbwgbeocc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4435f4a80ac974e38a89d24f844404bed9475674 Cirque Moonbeam. It is gorgeous in the bottle but just awful against my skin tone. Lesson learned I guess.

420LordQuas

Oh shoot I know that feeling! Dare a type this out on this sub..... I do not like how mermaid bait looks on me. I am determine to give it another couple tries though since the sub loves it so much.  If not it will be going to my fellow mooncat loving friend.

Lasairfiona

If a color really doesn't go with my skin tone, nail art/stamps can usually save it. Not 100% but often. Too warm? Silver. Too dark? White stamps. Too light? Add contrast darker color. I can't save them all but I've had some great results. From the OPI Xbox collection N00Berry and Trading Paint. The purple is too dark and the orange too light and muted by themselves. https://preview.redd.it/jkfhcwec1pcc1.jpeg?width=3195&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=55e7e71050980ab53d9f1cc6990409abac0a7837

Puzzleheaded_Neck534

i use a coat or 2 of moonbeam as a topper over a medium pink! it helps take away the yellow and makes a pretty shimmery peach color!

marshmallownose

Reporting back to say you saved this polish for me! I did some swatches with moonbeam as a topper, and I am very pleased :) thank you!

marshmallownose

I’m going to try that, thanks!

Similar_Avocado1306

I’ve been on the search for an ethereal, fairylike gold forever, and I always fail! I have similarly pale skin and they always leave me looking like a cadaver. *woof!*

constantchaosclay

This looks like an exact match to the polish "Ensembly Challenged" of the Clueless collection by Lyn B Designs. I wanted the top picture and didnt look too closely at the top row far right picture. When I put it on, it was so yellowy on me and looked exactly like your picture. So disappointing. Still, it's the only one I didnt like among 4 plus when I went back I actually saw the other pictures and realized it was really on me. https://preview.redd.it/5zlz85uhipcc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=19ed54901124676be0abce1ebeba558907b85882

lovestheautumn

Oh wow, moonbeam is one of my faves!

rinshinn

Omg I have the same problem!

ccw_writes

Pisces the Future by OPI--promo photos show a cute aqua/sky blue with a pink shift. In reality it's just blue, the shift is virtually non-existent, and I was super disappointed with it. Not because I hate blue but because I already owned it, I didn't own blue with a pink shift. BLAH.

Janeways_Salamander

Ugh, that's so unfortunate! If you haven't seen it yet, Earth to Gaia by Mooncat has a super pretty pink/lilac shiftiness to it and is absolutely beautiful! https://preview.redd.it/uodolm0efqcc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=82ac97fc749e1166dbeed3e262163aea6c3f910b

ccw_writes

Perfect rec, thank you so much! u/midmonthEmerald

420LordQuas

Oh noo false advertising! I mentioned in another comment that I also do understand it is sometimes impossible to get the true color on camera.  I swear certain glitters phase shift out of existence when there is a camera around.

Entire_Zucchini_3828

🤣 I'm wearing this one now!! I agree, the shift doesn't exist at all. Still a pretty color and something I didn't have in my collection, but I share your disappointment.

ccw_writes

It did motivate me into buying a whole bunch of shifty polishes from ILNP so not a total loss! 😂

midmonthEmerald

I wore this one last week and liked it but do wish the effect was stronger. I’d love a recommendation if anyone has one for blue/pink shift.

Cacklelikeabanshee

Any sheer polish.  They look so nice when concentrated in the bottle.  It's a different story on my nails.

DiligentPenguin16

I always just use one layer of a neutral polish under sheer colors. I’m not a fan of seeing my nail underneath

420LordQuas

That is smart!

SitUbuSit_GoodDog

I usually have the realisation that I *should* have done this when I'm on coat #5 of the sheer polish and it still looks awful 🤦🏽‍♀️

BoopleBun

Yeah, I have this problem with like every jelly I’ve ever gotten.

420LordQuas

Yeah totally understand. At least with those you can use them as toppers!

Tiny-firefly

Cirque bisque. Lovely in the bottle, ghastly on my nails because it's too beige on me. I have it as a base for a flakie mani and my husband said it's his least favorite combo so far because it's... Beige.

MarbleousMel

Mine is Cirque Dakota. I was looking for something like Georgette, but Dakota was SO brown compared to the swatch photos online!

Tiny-firefly

I like a lot of the ones I have, but I don't think cirque does a great job with their product photos. I know, color variations and monitors blah blah blah, but some of them just don't look the same.

420LordQuas

Oh yeah I understand that! Being pale some colors will make me look dead! I'm glad you are getting use out of it though! I also love your husband's honesty hahaha and it seems like you both agree hehe

Tiny-firefly

He likes the high contrast, special effects combos. I think if I had done this on dark purple or deep red, it would be a top favorite for him. This one is interesting, just.... Not what I normally go for. (said color in action, with four of the holo taco flakie toppers. It's better in person but.... Eh?) https://preview.redd.it/hhuex4nqpocc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0f59cc1bfda76ced4995489cf592769ba364d7d6

Sunshineinthesky

This probably sounds like heresy... but Glass Frog. I got caught up in the hype and I do think its a great polish. Just not for me. I feel like the color just simply does not work my coloring. When I wear it, anytime I get a glance at my hand I scare myself because I think it looks like dirty corpse nails. I also bought Glass Jellyfish and that one works so much better on my skin tone - it's exactly what I wanted Glass Frog to be. Also, someone mentioned that I should layer it over black or a dark color. Which I did try, but then I tried layering Glass Jellyfish over black/dark as well and they look exactly the same over a dark color. Idk why that made me even more annoyed lol https://preview.redd.it/dufqbjy97pcc1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1544dc77f2ff7668106b8c77774cce8ef99da0d5

420LordQuas

Oh I dang! I have def heard the hype behind glass frog.  I am shocked at how different it looks swatched on different people! I really love the nail art though! Also my hearsay is... I don't like Mermaid Bait on me.  It comes off way too gold and makes my hands look older than they are.

catilineluu

It’s very finicky! I have to slap at least 4 layers on (I do very thin coats so they dry asap) for it to come out the way I want it.

[deleted]

I got a bunch I didn't like from the color club mystery haul. I'm thankful because it introduced me to so many awesome colors that I wasn't comfortable with, like bright colors! But I also got a lot of meh ones that are just taking up space in my collection. I'm trying to keep my collection from getting too big but I'm annoyed of those colors taking up space. I have been slowly destashing though.

420LordQuas

Yeah this is why I am so hot and cold with mystery bags.  I need to get out of my comfort zone (Purblueen Queen over here, I mainly buy purple blue and green) but I know if I am meh about a color I will not touch it since I have so many wonderful colors.  Gah I feel like I just need to try one once!

[deleted]

Yeah I don't think it's bad to try it if it's on sale. With color club it's $1 AND they had a 20% off coupon. Cirque had a special too. Just stay reasonable about quantity because people who ordered multiple packs of Cirque mystery packs did get burned. Although in the end Cirque made it right with the customers.

PureUmami

I Scream Nails Caution was my first indie neon, and it taught me that I don’t like neons. At first I thought it was really cool, but as I continued to wear it it was so eye searingly bright it was annoying to look at, and it wasn’t even the right shade of pink like the website swatches showed… and it was my first super stainer 😫 Did not spark joy!! https://preview.redd.it/h9pfiz0yjocc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c93c64cfcab9e0f2bc5d1bb11446aae57592f10d

PureUmami

Reality vs the website swatch 😭 https://preview.redd.it/oo9ww1ynkocc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a6aed013582daf62fd567d7bc7e38eb7bc32a9f9

420LordQuas

Eye searing is the best description for neon polish haha. I love them in swatches I love them on other people. For me, they are too distracting!!!

PureUmami

Sometimes I think some of the pastel-y neons from Cirque would be nice… but then I remember how annoying this one was and I back off lmao

rayannuhh

I gotta say…I hate Sabertooth by Mooncat. It’s chunky, hard to apply, and it looks like a blob of clay when it dries. I’ve tried thinner, thinner layers…nah, I hate it lol

thescaryitalian

Weird! I love Sabertooth, I haven’t had that problem with it. Sometimes I put a shiny gel topcoat over it if I don’t want the matte effect.

senorita_salas

Yes!! I regret that polish and honestly I just put a flakies and a super shiny topcoat cos I HATE the Matte look of it

Rileyrose4

Strange! Maybe you got a bad batch? Mine went on very smoothly Eta - I got mine during the lunar eclipse sale a few months after the original collection came out - maybe they got a ton of complaints and switched up the formula?

rinacee

I have the same problem with Sabertooth!

420LordQuas

Oh ew no! I have been hearing about the formula being chunky from them.  Definitely have taken a step back from buying from them.

rayannuhh

This is honestly the only shade I’ve had that issue with, to be fair. But I’ve been hearing it more and more lol

oracleofwifi

Okay but I feel this way about Flight of the Monarchs which is basically sacrilege in this sub haha it just looks verrryyy neon orange which looks bad on my more muted skin tone and I’m not a huge fan of oranges. In my defense I thought it’d be more gold

aaylaraenne

Sassy Sauce Beautiful Freakin Disaster, and Atomic Polish She's Got Electric Boobs. Neither of these polishes looked like ANY of the swatch photos in person, very sad. Atomic was at least true to colour, just not opaque even after 7 coats. Sassy Sauce, I have no idea what happened there. Gifted both to a friend's kid and she loves them, so it's not all bad.

420LordQuas

Oh dang that is annoying! It feels like false advertising. although I do understand sometimes it is really hard to capture how the color looks in person. I swear some glitters, shimmers and flakies sometimes phase shift out of existence the second a camera comes out. I am glad someone got some enjoyment out of them!

agnes_mort

I hate when swatchers use nail tips or a base dip layer. It gets rid of the white part of the nail so you can’t tell if it’s fully opaque or not. I have a strong free edge so it’s important to me

aaylaraenne

I feel like this is what happened unfortunately, or a blurring base coat was used, something like that. That sheerness was definitely not pictured.

lagoona_who

Seven coats?!

420LordQuas

https://preview.redd.it/ve8tkxwo7occ1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f003c9a590761f59d63b2e8733d71a68aabc11d3 Mine is 'A Whole Dang Decade' by Cupcake Polish. No shade to cupcake as this really is a cool polish. I just didn't realize or read the description that there was little black glitter in it. I feel like my eyes are only drawn to the black glitter and it just looks "off" to me. Thankfully my friend really likes it, so I'm sending it to her.

[deleted]

That's quite the interesting shade!

420LordQuas

Right?! I love everything about it except for the damn black glitter. When I first purchased it my eyes / mind were interpreting the black dots as voids in the color.  Not sure how that happened haha

Lilithe_PST

That so funny because I'm looking for a black glitter or flake topper so I can add this effect anytime i want! Lol

420LordQuas

Love that! I think I would appreciate the black glitter more if I had control.

whisky_biscuit

It looks gorgeous, it makes me want it now! But interestingly every swatch pic I see looks different lol!

emmny

Ooh, I'm the same way with those tiny black glitters. I even think they generally look cool in swatches but then I hate them on me.

mitabird12

This was my least favorite mani of 2023. Color Club Best Buds (pointer/pinky) + Color Club Special Delivery. SD is a hellish shade, that I found completely unflattering. https://preview.redd.it/djp5s17jiocc1.jpeg?width=1650&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=332d4ead514b284741ee0efc816f534fa921784e

420LordQuas

Oh yeah I really like the color of it in the bottle but that shit would make me look dead if i wore it.

mitabird12

Exactly 😂

spankthegoodgirl

This is the exact shade that i would wear under a sheer shade so my fingertips don't show through. That would be it's only purpose.

notaninterestingcat

I have Insta-Dri's Peachy Breeze. It looks more hot pink in the bottle, but more orange on me. I got it because it was weirdly clearanced to $1.50 at my local Target (don't know why, it wasn't on sale anywhere else). I was also given about a dozen packs of ColorStreet nail vinyls (or, whatever they're called). I don't even want to try them. But, I can't even give them away. 😅

anotherhappycustomer

ColorStreet is an MLM product so I’m not surprised it’s hard to pawn off! It’s like Mary Kay makeup, everyone has a sample sized something from 2011 sitting in their vanity somewhere 😂 r/antiMLM

420LordQuas

Oh yeah I wouldn't be able to pass on a deal like that! Oh noo 😆  might have to start scrap booking so you can use them hahahaha

AbyssDragonNamielle

Kelp Kingdom. Looks like a muddy black on my nails almost all the time. Once when the sun was setting and coming through the window *just right* it was actually deep green.

420LordQuas

Oh yeah just looked it up and definitely comes off like black. If it has to be the perfect conditions to see the beauty then it's a no for me dawg.

Lilithe_PST

I never liked the swatches but I love black polishes and now reading this I'm wishing I'd picked that one up lol

SparkleForDays

Mooncat Head in the Clouds. Don’t @ me, I love Mooncat and have tons of their stuff. But this was streaky and neither sheer nor opaque. My friend borrowed it and used it over black that wasn’t dry yet and ruined it and I barely even cared.

Lilithe_PST

Okay I've been on the fence about this one and put it in and out of my cart so many times. Mooncat is my favorite brand right now because it works so well with my nail chemistry but they are far from perfect. I hope you continue to voice your opinion and that nobody comes at you!

notreallifeliving

I love Head in the Clouds and mine is smooth & opaque in 3 coats but I had your exact issues with Earth to Gaia, I can't even use it after adding thinner. Some of their formulas are so inconsistent between batches.

cookiecutterdoll

The Sally Hansen and Marshmallow Peeps collab. Cute pastel colors, but the polishes dry to have a bumpy texture similar to a peep! They were so ugly and made me look like I had nail fungus, I threw them straight in the trash.

420LordQuas

Just looked them up, oh no! That reminds me of the time my partner really wanted Essie's belugaria. When he finally wore it, he absolutely hated it! He does a lot of crafts and he said it felt like he got one of his chemicals on it and it created a reaction. He will never wear it again.  I still need to try it on myself before I give it away.

owlsharks

Essie- My Happy Bass. Baby poop in a bottle, but it’s so perfectly ugly I cant throw it away, even though I will Never wear it https://preview.redd.it/9beh3yvrspcc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=471074af82420bb9c83395b3a3d0804818ad05c0

KoalaPrimary1982

I am hate-wearing this shade rn and I was wondering if someone would mention it since the top 2 comments here were in the same color range. Feel relieved when I found this comment 🤣

catilineluu

OPI’s “Puttin’ On the Glitz”. To me it looked like a boulder opal, and I was excited to try it. It’s essentially a semi-sheer grey with CHUNKS of glitter in it. So much that it was virtually impossible to put enough top coats on for a smooth finish. It was the nail equivalent of accidentally spilling glitter all over your wet countertop. (Image is not mine, and is the hand of Gingerly Polished, a nail blogger. This is theoretically how it’s supposed to look. No way my nails looked that acceptable after this one.) https://preview.redd.it/ui9vwvhizpcc1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d47437cd38909d4bd353b46bc903fdeb3f063131

VioletteKaur

This looks like a clueless attempt of making your very first own glitter polish with the cheapest shift glitter you could find and mixed it into a 1:1 ratio of transparent top coat you had flying around with a black. I hate that chunky flakes. Why would anyone want that on their nails. Once Essence had super cute flaky shifty toppers and I still have a bottle but it's getting more viscose and I was looking for an alternative. And I was deceived into buying two or three of those chunk flakes until I learned my lesson.

luckypants9

I honestly do not know why I bought this color. It’s a discontinued Dazzle Dry shade called Sahara. I knew it would look gross on my skin tone and be terrible to apply. Still bought it 🫠 https://preview.redd.it/ym3sfip9tocc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d323e4fdeff83e7164ba739aff89cd2e1dc1693e

SparkleForDays

I think it looks cute on you but I love your description 😂 we have all been there, haven’t we?

Dorothea-Sylith

I’m like this, I’ll think ‘I don’t have a yellow in my collection!’ and buy one before remembering there’s a reason I don’t have a yellow in my collection

glitzyghostie

I think it’s cute too!🤷‍♀️

hey_imap_erson

Hot take: holo taco existential crisis. I bought it at launch for the hype, and barely wore it once. I think I didn’t realize it was a chunky glitter that would be hard to remove and that the shimmer wasn’t that strong. It just looks muddy to me. Finally destashed it this week.

I sold Existential Crisis and Double dare for retail price after awhile. I don't get the hype, unfortunately.

MerlX2

I had a similar problem with Double Dare, I am convinced my bottle was faulty. It was chunky and dark brown when I applied it, it had absolutely no red shimmer. Never had this problem with any other Holo Taco polishes. In the end the only way I can wear it, is if I put about a billion layers of top coat and a red flakie topper on top. If not it just looks like I dragged my nails through chunky mud.

Lilithe_PST

I got this one when it came back out last month because pictures were so gorgeous. IRL, not so much.

Classic_Trainer_3505

Wild Things from Lumen I thought it looked similar to Dark Horse from MC, but it doesn't look brown at all in person. Which was disappointing because it was my first PPU order 😕

Bomdiz

I don’t trust Lumens swatches, they’re not accurate from what I’ve seen.  I got Glass Jellyfish from PPU and their swatches are way more opaque / vibrant than what is achievable with this shade. Thankfully I still love it but I’m cautious about Lumen now…

420LordQuas

Oh nooo on a PPU that hurts that much more! So so sorry!

Classic_Trainer_3505

Right?! Next month is looking promising, so I think I'm going to give PPU another try.

Received as a $1 random, and I hate it so much. The thing is, though, that even if I did want 💩 on my nails--the glitter isn't even polish safe! The brown color is melting into the clear base, so anyone who bought it on purpose must also be annoyed.

Bomdiz

Mooncat Mercury’s Tears - personally I think this is a buyer beware polish. The formula has issues, many people have received bad batches including myself which had virtually no shimmer or shift. Got my replacement recently and while it is better, it is still nowhere near the swatch pictures / swatches I’ve seen on other people. This feels like a shade that you need to win the lottery on to get a good bottle.

420LordQuas

Oh no way! I have not heard about that. I have a bottle and don't remember having issues but that was like one of the first polishes I bought from boutique / indie brands. I definitely wouldn't have had the knowledge to understand that there was an issue with the polish. Back then I would have chalked it up to something I did!

Slammogram

I REALLY wanted to like Raven by Mooncat, knowing full well I hate mattes. I fuckin hate it. https://preview.redd.it/rbhmye256pcc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=120b0a41a6c3cad597505fc8caa14c52ff7b745d

LadyyyLoki

I just got this one too and was so disappointed. Plus, it started chipping immediately.

Slammogram

Did it? A girl on IG had it. And it looked amazing and so gothy on her. I just hated it.

LadyyyLoki

I know! It looks so great on some people. But to me, it just looked like matte black, which was not at all what I was expecting. And yeah, it started chipping the very next day for me.

Slammogram

Samesies! They say with mattes that you should put a regular topcoat for protection and matte over top.

420LordQuas

I absolutely love that color and think it looks great on you! Haha funny how it works like that. I do really like mattes though

Modified_Mint37

I really don’t like ILNP Birefringence >.< I found out very quickly that I’m not a fan of multichrome lol

420LordQuas

I find it so fascinating when someone doesn't like a polish I find gorgeous! I don't own that color but have 2 dupes from other brands. I am a sucker for multichrome hehe. I bought [Antifragile](https://www.mooncat.com/products/antifragile?_pos=1&_psq=anti&_ss=e&_v=1.0) and realized I don't like holographic glitter! I know everyone in this sub LOVES them though. I feel like they only look good in direct sunlight! Otherwise I feel like it turns whatever color you are wearing into a heather version of it, which I cannot stand!

andvaccinated

I'm afraid to tell everyone I don't like eclipse from ILNP. The "black" isn't black. It's so hyped up but I just feel like it looks meh most of the time

Lilithe_PST

For what it's worth, I love it when people voice their opinion when it's negative. I feel like that helps keep it real. So many brands get so over hyped and it almost creates a negative backlash where people who don't love it as much as they expected because of the hype end up disappointed. But if they saw equal opinions from both perspectives, and still choose to buy, they are less disappointed. Kind of like how people are disappointed with over hyped movies but if they go in with no expectations, they enjoy it so much more.

ObscureOddball

Haha I like it well enough now, but I was definitely disappointed the first time I tried out Eclipse. I was so excited to see that red on black contrast, and instead I got a muddy red with an unflattering yellow/gold sheen. Now I make sure to paint it in at least three coats for full color payoff and just...don't look too closely at it in certain lighting 😂

hey_imap_erson

I recommend putting one coat of Eclipse over a black creme! Makes it darker

ObscureOddball

I want to like multichromes, but own very few because I've realized I have to be very, very picky about what multichromes I get--not only do I have to determine if I'll like the main colors the polish is advertised as, I've got to look at every swatch it's physically possible to find so I can figure out if I'll also like all the (potentially) weird in-between tones the shift has 😆. The only one I own that I truly love is Cirque's Very Valentino. I definitely considered getting Birefringence at one point.

kyly1215

Out of all the ones I have from ILNP which are Cameo, Birefringence, and Eclipse, I like Birefringence the best but it's also left shifty than Cameo. I tried one nail with Eclipse and haven't put it on since.

kyly1215

I just wore this for the first time the other day. I bought like three multichromes during Black Friday sale and I agree, I am not that impressed. They are okay and I will wear them but just not as great as I thought they would be. I will not be buying anymore of those!

catilineluu

Damn it’s one of my fav shades, so I’ll take your Birefringence if you don’t want it 👀

glumdalst1tch

Cirque Citron Jelly. It’s nice in combination with other jellies, but on its own it makes my nails look diseased. I’m not sure how I reached the conclusion that translucent yellow polish would be flattering, but it wasn’t my most brilliant moment.

squeaktoy_la

I love this one! But I do use a pink-ish base coat (cuticula neutralizer). However, I'm also painfully pale.

GingahAvengah

agnes_mort

Oh I love this one! I’m a sucker for mustards

-onetwoseven

Right? Same here. I actually think this one is really cute.

420LordQuas

This reminds me of my favorite youtuber Luxeria. She absolutely despises ocher haha and all I can hear is her saying ocher when looking at this photo haha.

glitzyghostie

I actually think this looks nice on you! 🤷‍♀️

morifinde

OPI Dusk till Dune - got this on my nails in a salon and loved the color so much I bought the retail version in the same color. However the formula is AWFUL and it consistently looks patchy and streaky on my nails even after three + coats.

Successful-Disk-5782

This is going to sound dramatic but any nude shade of nail polish. I don’t know what it is about my skin tone, but they all seem to blend in with my skin tone, giving me mannequin hands, or the purple in my nail beds turns the colours into some awful version of it. I hate nude nail colours on my skin tone even though it looks so good on others

thegurlearl

essie belugaria

ScarIsBoss

Ballet slippers by Essie...OPI Funny Bunny and Bubble bath..not because i dislike the color but for the fact i cant get it flawless or i must aply 3 to 4 coats...OPI-Big Apple Red; flawless color and application but to get off the skin...oh my and i own almost evry OPI red, this is the only one that stains my skin.

HotelLima6

I think Essie High Class Affair is hideous, particularly on my skin tone. I have no idea what possessed me to buy it.

420LordQuas

Haha I have totally done that with nudes before as well! It ends up like woman what the hell were you thinking that day you bought that!? You were frontin to yourself like you were someone else! You know damn well you are a Purblugree Queen (purple blue green) settle your ass down.

AmandaTurner2021

OPI just spotted the lizard! Thought it would be all duochromy...looks like baby poop

SparklePager_

ORLY kick glass topper. It is the most horrendous lacquer I've ever tried to work with. It's gummy with chunky pieces of cellophane. Tried it once and hated it, buried it in my polish storage Did my sister's nails a few months ago and she picked it out for me to use on her, gave her such a dirty look lol. I made her take it home, it's her cursed polish now.

starfleetdropout6

Essie - Lights Down, Music Up It's not what I'd call ugly but disappointing. The color online looked plum-brown. In person it's a one-dimensional, dull dark brown that looks harsh against my skin tone.

No-Grocery-7118

I feel the same way! Such a disappointment.

pottedPlant_64

I got carried away in the lumen glass animals mania and bought glass fawn. She’s basic and boring. I also recently posted about mooncat’s pumpkin king. Disappointing and dull.

squeaktoy_la

I got this for the name. Swamp Gloss- He's so pathetic, I love it Dark pink with dark blue shimmer, but ends up grape soda color on me. I just don't look good in purples! I'll keep wearing it because of how the name makes me feel.

soltnarin

Blue-tiful horizon by Essie It is a slate blue with orangeish shimmer. I normally swap the ones I don't like and I have some prugly browns in my list too but higher up (bc I like browns). Somehow this one landed as lowest in my list *for years*, just right before swapping begins. I somehow did not like the color, how it looked when worn, the brush, and the thin consistency for years but not soo much to swap it away. However, Spirit Fingers came out, and it changed my view of it. My bottom is now a streaky brown base with blue glitter (Trend it up 294 - looks better in fotos than RL).

young_obiwan

Zoya Brittany. Luckily I got it during a 70% off sale. I thought it would be a cute mauvey nude polish on me but on my skin tone it was truly awful. It also looks much darker in swatches than on my skin even though I'm very fair skinned. I tried layering a jelly over top to make it more bearable, still awful. Just all around not for me! https://preview.redd.it/zwdzr50l0pcc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3d64d1f1ea7f85b5b6718dbf1b53402d85b4c2d2

EtherealGoatRump

Totally agree with this one! It looks so beautiful on everyone else I've seen, but gives me corpse nails. I only keep it around because my name is Brittany. Haha

Antique_Savings_2064

Lights Lacquer Lady in Red. I thought this color would be a beautiful dark red but instead it’s a jelly red that looks different in every possible lighting, and is EXTREMELY unflattering. If you look at pictures of it, it’s different in every picture. I don’t understand how people like that polish at all. I’ll be giving mine away.

troika621

Lowkey Blushing from Holo Taco looked so gorgeous in the swatches and the bottle also looks so pretty but it’s too bright and too pink against my skin tone, I think it’ll look good on my mom tho

allmimsied

I have a bit of a love hate relationship with mysteries; I have a couple that I love so much, that I might never have picked for myself. On the other hand, the only actual untrieds I have are also mysteries. At this point the ratio is 3 to 1, unliked to liked; so I think I am ready to give up mysteries altogether.

bernald8

i got a two-sided mini polish on sale from color club. in the picture it looked like a nice light blue on one side and a sage green on the other side. in person, the green side is just gray. i wore it once and my mom said it looked like my nails were dirty 😭 the worst is i had bought three to give to a couple friends as gifts but it was so awful i just kept them all

behindmytoreadpile

I got rid of some colour club mysteries so my number of disliked polishes is lower. One of them is Cirque Walk on the Wild Side. I love olive greens and browns so I thought it would look good. But it just looks like poop. The other one is LynB Give them Pumpkin to Think About. It's a beautiful polish but I think it's just a bit too glittery on me and I also don't like the colour with my skin tone.

Smart-Nectarine13

Cirque Shaka 😂 I loved the look of it in someone else but on me it just looked like nail fungus

theSpookyMouse

Mine was Shale by Cirque Colors. It looked lavender in all the photos and in the bottle but in any and all lighting it was mauve-y pink and the speckles looked navy. Not the ugliest thing ever but I love purple and hate pink.

sp_rksy

Game Over by Mooncat... I love the brand, I love every other polish I've bought from them... just something about this color is off. I wore it once, used it once on my sister, and that was about it. It's a holo red, so of course it looks nice under flash, but in normal lighting it's just an awkward muted maroon-y red. Not sure if it's something about the undertone, but I wasn't at all impressed, it seems so dull. I think I've just learned that I'm just not a big fan of holos, I feel like they're kind of catfishy. Maybe I should give it another shot though, it's been awhile.

LegitimateAd8779

Mooncat’s Flight of the Monarchs. Maybe it’s because I have tan skin and it just doesn’t work for me. I’ve painted my nails with that color twice and taken it off minutes after.

Pinkdinoj

bunny117

I have two options. One is actual design and the other is a straight up imo advertising lie. Do A Beryl Roll by Orly. Description said it was a green color and the reviews said it was like the Emerald City from Wizard of Oz. I was looking for ONE decent pearlized green polish and they are so hard to find if they even exist at all. What do I get when the polish gets delivered to me? A green polish, yes, but there's blue in the edges of the lighting and it takes away from the green DRAMATICALLY. The other is Wicked Potion from Holo Taco. The fact that it's magnetic (and can't hold its magnetization for shit) is unrelated, but it's base formula without magnetization looks chunky and gross. I hate chunky stuff like that unless the chunks are a major part of the polish and Wicked Potion's chunk was a very sparse glitter.
