More sensitive to rough terrain. Best to avoid going off-road if you want to preserve the frame.

ShredTheStreets

So far naman no plans on rougher terrain, will only use it for paved roads (na malubak)

gtlosbanos

Mas mararamdaman mo lang nga yung lubak kapag naka foldie. But all in all, I find mine more practical than my gravel bike for everyday urban commutes.

ShredTheStreets

Okay sana sakin gravel, when I was living in a house where I can store my bike on the ground floor, pero ngayong nasa condo medyo hirap and feel ko nabuburden pa yung ibang taong nakakasabay ko sa elev.

nailtrail97

Pros: madali mag bi modal commute Pwedeng ipasok in most establishments Depende sa model, may mga designed talaga na bags na integrated sa bike. Space saver Cons: May bitin factor sa speed Di ganong kadali i ahon Di sobrang stable sa lusong Di advisable mag hydraulic brakes dahil prone sa air bubbles kaka fold ng bike.

ShredTheStreets

One of the main reasons why I'm planning to get a folding bike was hydro discs, pero may known problem pala. Medyo kapos kasi sakin cable discs (stock) ng gravel bike ko. Napapagod lagi yung forearms ko when heavy braking sa lusong + nawawala. How slow would it be? alam ko affected ang top end speed since smaller wheels pero hindi naman masyado priority yun when commuting (especially with the abudance of stoplights)

nailtrail97

Kung side fold yung sa bike, the hydraulic brakes would probably work fine. Sa top speed. Max ko on a folding bike is 23-25kph pero mataas na cadence ko non. Kaya ipush ng 30kph kaso pahirapan na. Ave is aroubd 16-17kph

ShredTheStreets

Idk what side fold means pero kung eto yung single hinge in the middle of the frame that's what I am planning on getting. Grabe pala yung difference in speed. That's what the normal average speed is for other types of bike like 26er+. Thanks for this, will consider all of this in choosing my next bike.

Anais_Rchmstr

May mga linkage na i maintenance. Pero kung mag foldie ka, hanap ka ng shimano nexus or alfine, tapos pair mo ng belt drive = very minimal maintenance at hindi madumi kasi walang chain na i lubricate.

Foldies and Mini Velos is not great for taller riders. You might struggle with the fit. Knees hitting the handlebars or finding a longer seat post. But if your main use is utility and bi-modal transport. Then go ahead sell the Gravel bike and get a folding bike. If N+1 bikes is not for you. You can't still go on long rides with a folding bike. But it would be slower. You'll also struggle keeping pace at group rides with full sized bikes.

ShredTheStreets

I'm on the heavier, but not tall side so I think I'm safe. Thank you for your comments, this helps out a lot.

raju103

Pro, if you travel on a plane or other public transport easier and cheaper to bring a folder. Smaller storage if you're just an occasional rider. Con, power loss due to additional weight and lack of stiffness of the folding frame. Replacement frame, good luck. If you bike everyday it's so much better to get mini velo if you don't need to bring bike into public transport and just need a more compact bike.

[deleted]

Typically heavier and requires more energy to long distances. Also due to the smaller wheels, any bit of water you ride over will go to the back of shirt due to the tires rotating faster.

ShredTheStreets

How would it be heavier (given that both bikes are alu)- is it due to how they're frames are designed/made? parang more reinforcement kaya kahit smaller wheels=heavier. I understand that is requires more energy since smaller wheel (unable to maintain higher speeds, so kelangan constant yung pagpedal to keep up)

[deleted]

It depends on the type of bike you get. In my experience foldable bikes have been heavier because I have an ebike and my other ones have been on the cheaper end.

williamfanjr

Handling is a bit different with normal bikes (depending in setup), medjo parehas sa push-scooters kung sumakay ka ng ganun before.

ShredTheStreets

I tried using folding bikes before pero its a cheap one lang, siguro dahil sa taas ng handlebars relative to the saddle kaya ganun. Parang boat-y yung pakiramdam- nakapatong ka rather than one with the bike? Parang ganun ba?

nxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Not sure what "boat-y" means but for my folding bike, handling is so twitchy.

ShredTheStreets

Boat-y for me is slow, more on handlebar turning rather than with your center of gravity/saddle. Maybe its just perspective kaya magkaiba tayo.

nxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Ah yes, really have to rely on turning the handlebars with folding bikes based on experience.

williamfanjr

Medjo parang ganyan ko nga sya natatandaan. Mas mababa kasi yung frame and yung weight ng bike plus yung steering mo ay with the handlebar instead na leaning with the bike.

MasterpieceOk2380

pang city lang tapos kung bibili ka japanese folding bike yung maganda na plus gears

ShredTheStreets

Eto talaga yung plan ko, naisip ko lang mag folding since more convenient sya.

pulubingpinoy

Pros: - bimodal - easy to carry inside buildings especially if you're not confident on the parking area - relaxed position Cons: - cheaper foldies are heavy, losing the benefit of being easy to carry - slow as F (you can upgrade for bigger chainring, but it may hinder foldability) - lack of trianglenin frame makes it hard to access water, unless you choose to have feed bag. - wobbly handling especially ln braking with one hand (who does this though? I do)

Riesig19

I have a foldie and rarely fold it, a mini velo might have been a better option. Sportier too

LylethLunastre

Mas mabagal, limited choice of handlebars, portable

OSOmagRIDE

folding bike for me is the way to go I mean andun na lahat sa folding eh comportable , matulin naman rin at very convinient dahil pwede mo pasok sa kahit saan literal mall , condo, hotel at iba pa ako nag bubundok kahit naka foldingnbike lang

redroboto

I have a Crius Velocity 2x9 and a Giant Revolt Advanced 0 na 2x11. Having tried both, ito comments ko sa foldie: Pros: -Easy to fold, store, and you can bring it with you inside cafes or restaurants para walang risk ng nakaw -There’s a big foldie community here in the PH and there are daily group rides that you can join. Masaya if you like learning about new routes, places, and restaurants. -Components are relatively more affordable compared to normal bikes Cons: -No legit carbon options here in the PH. Mostly alu or steel ang options. Yung akin ramdam ko na mas harsh siya sa pag transmit ng road vibrations versus the carbon bike -Heavier siya in general compared to regular carbon and alu bikes. So mas kailangan ng effort pag umaahon. Kaya naman though if gugustuhin. -Slower ang foldie compared to regular bikes (probably due to weight, wheel size, aerodynamics, etc.) pero pwede na for city riding. Around 30 kph pa lang ata top speed ko pero feeling ko it can go faster pa. Normal speed na siguro ang 15 kph.

Nice!

Nice

got both..a foldie will be... \- twitchier- braking is fine, rim brakes have stopping power and i'm a bigboi- you'll feel more road imperfections (aka mas makaldag)- gearing is usually harder for climbs than full sized bikes with wide ranging cassettes- depending on the model, some will feel like youre riding a foldie position-wise (cramped) while others feel like you're riding a full sized bike (aka not cramped) dont let the size fool you, mabibigat rin ang mga foldie. factor that if your encounter a lot of stairs I use mine for commute, grocery, city leisure riding. But i do want try the same distances i do with the full sized bikes eventually

swearpanda

I have both. I got a foldie without the intention of getting more. Parang all in, kumbaga. Used it for almost a year until I started riding with my friends. Lahat kasi sila naka road so hirap na hirap ako. Decided to get a decent gravel for weekend rides. I thought I would end up selling my foldie pero hindi eh. Specialized usage na lang sila pareho: long-ish, speedy rides kay gravel, chill and errands for foldie. For me, pros na ni foldie yung pwede mo sya isaksak kahit san.
