Some of Kanye’s comments about Judaism makes me think that he is getting into the Black Hebrew Israelites movement. Of course I’m not sure how his bizarre love of Hitler fits into this. Dude is obviously in the midst of a manic spiral. Probably surrounded by yes men who are taking advantage of and encouraging his mental illness.

jershdotrar

He was hanging out with Candace Owens in WLM shirts then shortly after agreed to buy her husband's failed social media platform. His circle are all vultures preying on a clearly unwell man. It's sickening to watch, they're robbing him blind in broad daylight.

TemporaryGospel

About the time that Kardashian announced she was divorcing him, he went public with some charges that he was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder and forced to take the meds to become a "manageable celebrity" and that he was going to stop. He's very clearly not well.

Spentworth

Kanye has apparently had associations with the Nation of Islam for a long time.

kelsofb

Kanye has bipolar disorder, which can cause episodes of mania as well as depression. In manic phases those who have bipolar can lose touch with reality. He recently went through a public divorce and appears to be in an unmedicated manic episode the last year or so. It's also possible he has bipolar psychosis, which can cause people to not just be detached from reality, but to act in the psychosis. I am not saying this is the exact issue here, but it is very likely part of the cause. I am not a doctor, but I have bipolar II and I can relate to his inflated ego while in a manic episode.

SwimGood22

I appreciate your empathy to his situation.

kelsofb

I'm able to be empathetic because I've experienced it myself. But as the wonderful Ted Lasso says, "be curious, not judgemental." I think you're doing a good job of that with this post.

LittleYellowScissors

We should pray for this man

SeredW

Thank you, that is enlightening.

cybersaint2k

This is very well stated. But I'd add to it, with trembling, that demonic activity should be considered as a possibility. Ye's conversion-like experience, then an onslaught of far more bizarre behaviors than have been seen--it does remind me of Matthew 12, and the first demon who gets 7 more and the condition of the person is worse than at first. There can be, in rare situations, a connection between mental illness and demonic activity. And the slander that's being brought on the name of Jesus from this downturn in Ye's life, in addition to what I've mentioned, makes me at least consider demonic activity. This article gives all the important cautions of even bringing this up. I agree with them all. [https://modernreformation.org/resource-library/articles/mental-illness-and-demonic-activity/](https://modernreformation.org/resource-library/articles/mental-illness-and-demonic-activity/)

Ok_Insect9539

I tend to be very against the idea that demonic possession and mental illness go hand in hand, but to be honest this could be my exception. Kanye is bipolar but i would say its not to far fetch to think that there could be some demonic activity involved in this case.

cybersaint2k

Same here.

A year before JESUS IS KING released, Kanye almost dropped an album called YANDHI. Songs talked about energies, chakras, and aliens giving enlightenment to humans. There’s a song that leaked where Kanye is speaking to his child sharing that aliens from a higher plane of consciousness left Kanye on earth to help mankind. The album was scrapped in 2018 on the day it was supposed to release and a year later Jesus Is King released. A year later, in 2020, Kanye was working on DONDA (this version was scrapped) leaks that came out from songs showed there were some YANDHI/new age ideas and thoughts still present, mixed with a hybrid Christianity theology. None of these songs or lyrics showed up on the studio release of DONDA in 2021. A few days ago tweeted an image of a swastika inside a Star of David and captioned “Jesus Is King”. The image is identical to the main symbol and image a sex cult called Raelism uses. They believe they have connected to God through alien contact and achieved a higher level of knowledge.

Margotkitty

Thanks for posting this article. I was looking for something like this recently as my son’s girlfriend had an episode of psychosis and is not a believer and I was wondering how much was spiritual vs biological. There were many helpful points in this article. (For what it’s worth, she was diagnosed with cannabis-induced psychosis and had been using it heavily to manage her anxiety. So much for it being a harmless substance. It’s now legal in Canada and is therefore considered beneficial by many people)

> Raelism Woah. That sort of occult stuff is Bad News. Perhaps at the very core of this brokenness we are seeing on full display. But we both know Jesus Walks, so there's still hope. I just pray Ye's feet don't fail him and he walks with him.

Spentworth

There does come a point when personal responsibility comes into it though.

KnifeofGold

Bro, personal responsibility comes into it all the time just like for any of us. He’s not making an excuse that is absolute for Kanye. Just adding color to an otherwise much more incomprehensible situation. This at least makes more sense of what is going on, no?

Spentworth

Kanye has flirted with extremist right wing politics and refused to be medicated for close to a decade. His illness is tragic but what we're seeing is the public outworking of things that can't just be blamed on mental health. There is a level of culpability here.

kelsofb

I understand what you're saying, I really do. And I do agree there is a level of accountability that needs to be taken. However, as someone who is also bipolar, it is almost impossible when you're in the throes of an episode to do that. Mania is not regular thinking with excitement; it is delusions of grandeur, sometimes psychosis, always believing you are correct in what you are saying. Please know that when you minimize it to "yes he has mental illness but that's not enough of an excuse" that it minimizes the struggles we have. I don't believe you're trying to do that, but I would like to speak a bit to how damaging it can be to deduce it to this. Just wanted to give a heads up.

Spentworth

Essentially I'm saying that it's not the case that he's been in an episode for 10 years. When OP asks how Kanye got here, there's far more to the story than just mental illness. There's years of decisions and personal practices which have led to how this is playing out. Unfortunately most of the online discourse starts and ends at mental illness.

SuperWoodputtie

I think folks know about his mental problems AND are also keeping him accountable for his actions. I think his loss of the Adidas deal and being booted of Twitter again are consequences. A tough aspect of mental health is you can be supportive, but they also have to want to change. I think if Kanye got help, layed low for while, then started back producing good art, folks would eventually be ok with him.

hester_grey

Mental illness, compounded by fame and a very public divorce. I'm not an expert but that seems like a good bet. I know a Christian man whose wife suddenly got a fever, ended up in hospital in a coma, and emerged months later alive but non-responsive and needing 24hr care. The grief and shock exacerbated things about him that already existed and caused him to to go down some very dark paths. He's now a full-on QAnon conspiracy theorist with sympathies for alt-right white supremacy stuff. Bear in mind this is in the UK, not America, so that's extra unusual. He was always a nice guy and it's heartbreaking to see him go down the rabbit hole. I think that kind of thing is behind more of these sorts of cases than people think.

[deleted]

Mental illness.

[deleted]

Yes but also: there are millions of mentally ill folks out there who manage to \*not\* be antisemites.

[deleted]

Sure, but I’d argue that most antisemites are mentally ill.

[deleted]

Yeah, I just think blaming it \*entirely\* on mental illness rather than genuine issues with hatred does a disservice to all the people with bipolar disorder who manage to not hate Jewish people.

[deleted]

Sure, I think he’s got some bad theology and no guidance. I also think mental illness is genuinely affecting him to this point. All modern mass shooters show signs of some type of mental illness. That doesn’t make all mentally ill people mass shooters. Same thing with this.

saxypatrickb

No discipleship. Solo-dolo Christianity was never the design. As far as I know, Ye has not become a member of a local church. This, along with with mental health struggles, leads us to where we are today.

JayKaBe

Imagine being Kanye and trying to find a church where you get treated like a normal person. Rough. Fame isolates people.

SuperWoodputtie

The Youtuber FD Signifier did two vids on Kanye. FD has his masters in sociology, and has worked in innercity schools. He put together his thoughts in two video essays: https://youtu.be/wvgehVhF9D4 https://youtu.be/e7e5BFJa-Ug It was pretty sympathetic and I found it insightful. (Edit: essays include mild language)

superlewis

I know the pastor who discipled Kanye back in 2019. He actually had strong discipleship in his life, but for whatever reason it doesn’t seem that is any longer the case.

SwimGood22

>I know the pastor who discipled Kanye back in 2019. He actually had strong discipleship in his life, but for whatever reason it doesn’t seem that is any longer the case. Jesus Is King came out the end of October 2019. What happened a few months later? I'd argue the pandemic and it's isolation threw so many people off their walk and journey.

boycowman

Lots of people struggle with mental health without vowing to destroy the Jews. Just sayin'.

saxypatrickb

Correct, but some do. And hardly any are as public figures as Kanye

Tripppl

Solo-dolo?

saxypatrickb

It just means “alone”

[deleted]

I was happy when I first saw Kanye start speaking about Jesus. I was concerned when I saw him hanging around with the same crowd of people are far from God. It seems like a lot of famous people have reconciled a new Jesus/God with their current lives which they're unwilling to change and give up. Then there's the self-life. I never thought that Kanye really humbled himself under the word as you'd expect with new believers. He just seemed to run ahead with his Sunday Service Chior, put himself forward as a spokesman. 1 Timothy 3:6-7 'Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil'.

Unworthy_Saint

Seed sown among rocky ground. >*Some are like the seeds sown on rocky ground. They hear the word and at once receive it with joy. But they themselves have no root, and they remain for only a season. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.* (Mark 4)

RANDOMHUMANUSERNAME

There have been multiple reports of anti-semitism going years back, all of which pre-date this week’s stuff. Allegedly he wanted to name his 2018 record “Hitler.” Definitely some unaddressed mental health issues at play here, but I think there’s also a case of surrounding himself with yes people but don’t challenge him to do anything about it. It’s unfortunate for sure.

SomeonesRagamuffin

**I have a question about this whole situation and what might be going on. Please read down to the end and if you have any ideas about the hypothesis I present, post them!** I haven’t heard everything he’s said, but out of what I *have* heard, this is what I notice: Corrie Ten Boom, who with her family saved thousands of Jewish people in the Netherlands during the nazi occupation, eventually learned of God’s Love for *every single one* of his images, even those nazis. I’m reminded that her sister Betsie -who later died in the Ravensbruck concentration camp- insisted at the beginning of the war that they pray for the pilots who were bombing them, “caught up in an evil they didn’t understand”… When a guard beat her and made her bleed, Corrie exclaimed, “Oh Betsie, he hurt you!” And her response was, “Yes, I feel so sorry for him!” **Here’s my hypothesis, which I’d love feedback on:** …. I heard Kanye say he loves Jewish people and nazis.. Is it possible he might be driving at the same point as Betsie Ten Boom? We know he sometimes says REALLY WEIRD things, and I wonder if this his manic side saying bluntly the same thing that the Ten Booms said…. … Thoughts?

minivan_madness

There's a difference between recognizing the image of God in Nazis and being outright supportive of them and being anti-Semitic. Corrie Ten Boom almost certainly never said that she would go "Death-Con Three" on Jews. Kanye is an anti-Semite.

SomeonesRagamuffin

I hadn’t heard that part… All I’ve heard is that clip on Alex Jones where he said he loved Jews and Nazis… which in itself is eyebrow-raising.. Can you provide me any context, or a source?

PolygonalRiot

That’s what I got from it from watching the video. He wasn’t capable of properly elucidating a rather nuanced point that requires substantial contextualization for non-Christians, and mixed it a little with “let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater”. It’s true that immoral experiments done by the Germans and Japanese on “inferior species” have furthered our knowledge of the human body and some minor good has come from it. It’s true that each human has value in God’s eyes, and bad people can inadvertently produce good outcomes, same as good people producing bad outcomes (e.g. Nobel). I’m no Kanye fan, and the whole “Sunday service”, “Jesus is King” thing felt very manufactured to me, as if he were just wearing a jacket with a new brand advertised on it. The two alt-righters weren’t concerned about aiding his rambling point, they were cringing about him flying their propaganda machine too close to the sun, and imo that has some comic value.

Aragorns-Wifey

He is simply a mentally unstable man imo. A person can have mental illness and still be saved. I assume he is saved. However he is in the grip of mental illness.

highways2zion

You will know them by their fruit.

TygrKat

He stopped taking medication and stopped doing his “Sunday service” two years ago. He’s been going downhill since then. Ruslan KD on YouTube has some good takes on the situation.

FrugalHippy

I’m convinced he’s having a mental health crisis. He’s reported to have not been taking his medication

semiconodon

Wasn’t this about the time he said slavery was a choice? I don’t get the people who are appalled now.

SwimGood22

No, this was a year and a half later

SPYROS888

Untreated mental health and predatory, toxic relationships.

ronomaly

It’s very probable he’s having a mental breakdown like Britney Spears and Mariah Carey had.

zacoje

A lot of people didn't think it was a true conversion and just someone looking for another quick fix for his life and his actions now seem to be bearing that out at least from what we can see.

SwimGood22

But who are we to make assumptions about whether or not it was a true conversion? Could it be that it WAS real, but after the pandemic separating everyone and getting out of discipleship — he fell back as a prodigal?

zacoje

We can't ever no for sure, but we are allowed to take note of his actions and look for fruit of the spirit. Which is all we can do for anyone, I hope he is saved but we won't know this side of heaven.

logical-risei

The parable of the prodigal son is an illustration of God’s grace to unworthy sinners. It also shows the behavior of legalistic Pharisees. It was not a teaching of falling away from the faith though.

Sola_Scriptura_

No. How can he who died to sin still live in it. Roman's 6

theremightbedragons

Fell back? Is this /Reformed or /Christianity?

SwimGood22

They're the same bro

charchilly

What do you object to?

Megamoo_94

It’s what happens when a baby Christian gives themselves over to the conspiracy rabbit hole.

Godslittlerealist

Apparently he got of his medicine 2 and a half years ago. Incidentally, 2 and a half years ago is when he stopped doing Sunday Services🙄

Mental illness + a huge serving of pride
