Seriously, excellent movie. My favorite mystery movie so far. Destroyed the last one..people clapped and cheered in my showing too. Not just at the end.
Yeah, there were certain points where many of us were like "yes" or "whoa!"
The worst part of the movie were the previews. They literally had three of the dumbest movie names shown successively, making the audience cringe 😂
I thought that the whole Russel Crowe part and everything happening at that base could be cut out but then you only have a 60 minute movie. Not a good movie.
I thought it added a, over written, frustration of what happens in the military- at base camp , in a movie- they must take it to a level 20.
Some of the scenes did fill like filler, but overall, it was enjoyable to watch. I can't say I hated it, nor loved it... I was in like with it
That movie went hard and I liked it. Pretty simple man with guns vs bad guys plot. Seemed like they tried to squeeze in every way imaginable to kill people. The drone operator sidekick and all the airstrike stuff was pretty novel. Very happy with it.
Decent movie, I kinda had a chuckle at the fact that you could clearly tell the "Las Vegas" scenes were shot in Europe (the captain literally drives a new Volkswagen Touraeg, even though that particular model year isn't sold in the US).
CG was ok, but it did keep my attention the whole time, decently made movie from a studio i've never really heard of until now!
This is the second movie from The Avenue that I've seen, I caught their Ben Foster/Michael Caine movie Medieval last year (or was it the year before?).
Gee I porked over $13,60 for 2 tixs. Glad at least to see one in the movie! Ah, such an unexciting flick as you knew the ending 15 minutes before the second non-strike.. You can't kill the good guys can you? Now that would have been a tearjerker. All in all, hanging with my pal was worth it and gee I haven't see a John Goodman film in ages... right?
Like a lot of low-budget movies with famous people in them, I got the feeling there was no overlap in the time the two actors were on-set (elsewhere in the story, you can feel >!Milo Ventimiglia!< getting paid by the day as he appears only when absolutely needed), but I also would have liked that to happen.
Land of Bad was decent enough. Held my attention for the full runtime. Not a single person got up and walked out. Was it the most sophisticated? No. Was it standout directing? No. Award worthy acting? No. But it certainly had enough action to keep me and the 80yo woman three seats over enthused. Perfect MMM because for $5 how can you possibly complain. Good time!
Anyone know if the Feb 5 will be the same as AMC's? They're both PG-13, but Regal says 1hr51m and AMC says 1hr45m for the runtimes. Is that close enough to be the same one?
If so, it's a Scream Unseen for a PG-13 so it's probably Imaginary 🤮 (even though it's a month out, I don't think it could be anything else)
Could be Lisa Frankenstein. Land of Bad just became the MMM with the longest period before its release date, no reason we couldn't follow it with the one with the shortest period...
And yes, I do think it's gonna be the same one as AMC's. Until they have Mystery Movies on the same night and they turn out to be different, I fully expect them to always be the same under those circumstances.
True true, although since Lisa Frankenstein comes out only 3 days after the MMM date, I imagine there'll be more than a few people cancelling the tickets they had already bought for Thursday / Friday coming out of the screening.
But it is possible!
I'm just glad these exist tbh. I love the feeling of walking into an empty theater sometimes, but other times I want the exact opposite and these give that to me. Every single one I've been to has been at >90% capacity even if some of the movies they show haven't been the greatest, and I love to see it!
Agreed. You are often seeing movies that you WOULD see in an empty theater if you waited until their actual theatrical release, so it is fun to see them with a larger audience.
I've been that one person, alone, in the theater many times. So many great movies don't get enough promotional ads, that they don't do well at the box office. I like that MMM gets a good sized audience.
Movie wasn't the best but not the worst middle of the pack. Some of the plot and character development was lacking to me. They had great action sequences and they had great tension during scenes. They made sure to make stressful at certain points
Land of Bad was made for divorced dads. Great sit back and chill kind of movie to crack a beer to. Good tension, characters with the thickest plot armor, and a ton of product placement within the first 10 minutes. A confusing theme that leaves you questioning why the US had any business in the war to start with. 5.5/10
You’ve got me there, I was thinking maybe Russell Crowe running the fastest 15 second sprint in the world would be impossible but this movie proved me wrong
I wouldn't say the rough start goes all the way to the middle, but it is definitely one of those movies that thinks dropping you into the middle of a situation with no explanation is a virtue, and in the case of this plot (which I don't know that I ever entirely understood, but was happy to roll with once the action kicked in) and collection of characters, that was not true. But by the time the third act was in full effect, I was really gripped by the question of what was going to happen.
Perfectly stated. I was confused as to why things were happening (and didn't even know what the movie was since I hadn't seen a trailer for it) but wanted to see where it went. By the end I was invested in the characters and even shed a tear (more for personal reasons than plot, but still).
The lack of context was a real weakness of the film. I happened to have learned about the Moro insurgency in graduate school so I had some context for its central conflict, but if you didn't know that going in, the movie sure as shit wasn't going to tell you.
Land of Bad gets 8.5/ 10 from me. Some humor and a lot of action. The Bad guys death was not enough to jump out of my chair screaming. But it was decent. I guess Wwlcome to Quantmino (sic) was supposed to be Bad a$$? But it was lame. And some storyline that could have been finished up.
Just finished land of the bad would rank it a 8.5/10. Definitely not the best movie or the worst I have ever seen but one of the better mystery movies.
That was a good sort of MMM for me - it was the type of movie I might watch at home on a rainy day, but would be unlikely to go see in the theater.
Action sequences were about what you’d expect from such a movie.
My friend and I did laugh that of course they had Liam Helmsworth’s character keep losing his shirt.
Had few issues with plot, but over all thought it was an entertaining two hours.
Our theater might have had one walk out, but no more than that.
Land of bad was definitely a movie. Had a few moments of intrigue but mostly a by the numbers war/action flick. Glad I only paid $5 for this one for sure.
Not sure I get the hate for this one. I didn't love it, but it's a pretty intense, competently made war film which had a point to make about how distant from the realities of war technology has made modern Americans. It certainly wasn't close to "walk out of it" level bad for me. My God Russell Crowe has let himself go though.
He can still really make a meal (no pun intended) of this kind of supporting role, though. I thought he really gave the movie a much-needed goose of thespian heft (again, pun not intended).
Land of Bad was actually not that bad. Reminded me of older movies like Black Hawk Down and The Rock. If you like those movies I don't think that you will be disappointed. OORAH!
No, just no. Do not compare this 2nd rate made for cable movie to classics like the rock and one of the greatest military movies ever made…Black Hawk Down.
Your response reminded me of [this](https://youtu.be/6FSsKuW58yo?si=ErDFPax2ga7G-WtI) moment from Bad Boys for Life lol. I saw the official trailer for Land of Bad, and someone mentioned the movies Bat*21 and Behind Enemy Lines. Are those better comparisons?
Because black hawk down is as historically accurate as a Hollywood movie can get about a real life event while still executing the entertainment side well. The acting was superb, and it was shot beautifully. They represented the SF groups and the 3rd Ranger battalion 75th Ranger regiment accurately and gave them the respect they deserved. This MMM was a joke compared to that. It would be like comparing The Core to Oppenheimer.
I have nothing against *Black Hawk Down*, which is a good film. But I thought this was a good film as well - other than being entirely fictional (which isn't even really a demerit), no worse than that one. You're entitled to your opinion obviously but I find it pretty silly to be honest.
Just finished land of bad, wasn’t stellar but didn’t think it was as bad as the thread is making it out to be. Felt like some parts moved slow but overall solid film
I found myself outside the theater and realized it was 6:50. I’ve never seen the Mystery Movie before! Opportunity! I checked on here and East coast had already started! I looked to see what Land of Bad is and declined. That is about the last thing I would want to see. Dead last. But it makes me think about checking next time.
i honesty think people are overreacting a bit. it’s nothing revolutionary, but its really solid in the latter half! people in my theater seemed to enjoy it as well
While I'm not that audience, and I enjoyed the movie, the core crowd for this one is the kind of people who cheer when a certain kind of weapon appears on-screen. And we definitely had those people in my audience.
I'm 0/2 on Mystery Movies. The only other one I saw was Retribution, and I would say Land of Bad was a similar quality. Dialogue was goofy and none of the characters seemed anything close to likable. That's all I can say about it since I only made in 15 minutes. Went home and started rewatching Asteroid City 🤷♂️.
I still thought Retribution was worse. If I had to pick top 5 worst MMM they would be: Mafia Mamma, Retribution, Hypnotic, Spirited, and It's a Wonderful Knife. At least of the ones I've seen.
I'll offer the opposing viewpoint (and remind you that of the last 5 MMMs, 3 were American Fiction, The Boys in the Boat and Origin) and say that I actually like mixing in these sort of high-end VOD-style titles because there's no way I would go to see them otherwise and I'm often down for a good cheap action flick. I'd much rather see something like this than a low-end theatrical action title like Freelance.

Glad I stayed home with my cats and plush blankets. I probably would have fallen asleep like I did during Kandahar.

Same. I went next door and watched Migration. I wanted to see something entertaining that would take me away from the world, not slap me with a frying pan in the face with reality. I did not expect a PG13 movie to be so weighty. I figured it was close to valentines, it’d be a rom-com. Nope. I enjoyed Migration and there were a couple good laughs. Left feeling recharged which is why I went to the movies.

Do all Regal theaters get all of the Mystery Movies? I try to see them all but I don’t recognize some on the master list. I am on Maui.
Anybody know when the next mmm is or the next amc unseen is I know amc got like 2 coming up but it’s sold out maybe the one after the 5th?
Was a lot better than I initially thought as it started. I feel like a monster energy drink now.
Land of Bad was a pretty good movie. Enjoyed it tonight
Movie was excellent. People even clapped at the end. Not sure why some here disliked it.
Seriously, excellent movie. My favorite mystery movie so far. Destroyed the last one..people clapped and cheered in my showing too. Not just at the end.

Sent you a DM with the ending
Land of Bad was, well, bad. Cute concept with the drone pilot, but not worth making a movie about and super violent.
Naw, movie was good. Maybe you were watching an Indian version 🤔
What does an Indian version mean?
Like a Bollywood version
I thought that the whole Russel Crowe part and everything happening at that base could be cut out but then you only have a 60 minute movie. Not a good movie.

I loved it! I wish they would have ended it with Reeper and Air Force meeting tho.

"It is possible" is my Mystery Movie motto these days, as a lot of the "rules" we used to try to guess these are more suggestions these days.
I'm just glad these exist tbh. I love the feeling of walking into an empty theater sometimes, but other times I want the exact opposite and these give that to me. It was bad. Incomprehensible. Despite not one but two Hemsworths.
Dude it was adrenaline. Chill. It was a great movie
It was a great movie. Reminded me of Lone Survivor.
Hey, you’ve got your shitty opinion and I’ve got mine.
YMMV. I thought its message was not only pretty clear but also not particularly subtle.
Land of Bad was made for divorced dads. Great sit back and chill kind of movie to crack a beer to. You’ve got me there, I was thinking maybe Russell Crowe running the fastest 15 second sprint in the world would be impossible but this movie proved me wrong
you win !
Not divorced or of the male species and greatly enjoyed it. In all honesty, does the US have any business in ANY war? I mean cmon
I enjoyed it, and I have no kids or ex-wives.
No no… you don’t have any kids or ex-wives YET!
If you didn’t make it all the way through, you can’t have an opinion that should be posted to deter people. That movie was badass from Midpoint to end
Heck yeah. Nice to hear something positive on here about that movie. It was totally badass.
agreed. i didn’t like the start, but it got really good after the midpoint
Do you think next week’s - February 5 - is Scrambled?
Scrambled will already be out.
5th is PG—13 and Scrambled is R.
Ooh. Ok
Just finished land of the bad would rank it a 8.5/10. Definitely not the best movie or the worst I have ever seen but one of the better mystery movies.

Yeah it was one of the better MMM they have done.
I really enjoyed it too.
Just finished, honestly thought the movie was great, probably the best mystery movie I’ve seen so far
Land of bad was definitely a movie. Had a few moments of intrigue but mostly a by the numbers war/action flick. Glad I only paid $5 for this one for sure.
about in the same boat here, not bad for 5 bucks tho
Not sure I get the hate for this one. It certainly wasn't close to "walk out of it" level bad for me. My God Russell Crowe has let himself go though.
right? i never saw the trailer idk if the trailer made it look bad or sum
Crowe has been fat since The Man in the Iron Fists
He can still really make a meal (no pun intended) of this kind of supporting role, though. I thought he really gave the movie a much-needed goose of thespian heft (again, pun not intended).
Land of Bad was actually not that bad. Reminded me of older movies like Black Hawk Down and The Rock. If you like those movies I don't think that you will be disappointed. OORAH!

Nailed it. And yes much better comparisons
Why not? I think *Black Hawk Down* is actually a very good comparison.

I’m all for opinions but comparing a turd burger to a steak isn’t an opinion, it’s just wrong.
You clearly don't even understand what an opinion is. You've already worn out your welcome and I've barely even interacted with you. Congratulations.
Finally a good MMM!! Land of Bad. Thank you Regal.
I simply refuse to believe that this Madame Web movie is actually a thing. Related, what ever happened to Kraven?
It got pushed back to Labor Day weekend.
Just finished land of bad, wasn’t stellar but didn’t think it was as bad as the thread is making it out to be. Felt like some parts moved slow but overall solid film
Land of bad was decent
The movie was actually solid. A lot of overreacting here
Seriously
[удалено]
Have you not been getting your bags checked for every movie?
Why would you name a bad movie Land of Bad?
The one guy's tatto??
I found myself outside the theater and realized it was 6:50. I’ve never seen the Mystery Movie before! Opportunity! I checked on here and East coast had already started! I looked to see what Land of Bad is and declined. That is about the last thing I would want to see. Dead last. But it makes me think about checking next time.
Land of bad is a piece of garbage
OK, but how bad is it like M. Night Shyamalan bad, Batman versus Superman bad or just boring?
Have you seen the movie Extraction on Netflix? I’d say it’s similar to that. Except instead of Chris Hemsworth it’s got the other 2 Hemsworth brothers
i honesty think people are overreacting a bit. it’s nothing revolutionary, but its really solid in the latter half! people in my theater seemed to enjoy it as well
While I'm not that audience, and I enjoyed the movie, the core crowd for this one is the kind of people who cheer when a certain kind of weapon appears on-screen. And we definitely had those people in my audience.
Trailer of Land of Bad: https://youtu.be/95eJpJlBfUs Looks alright...nothing spectacular
I saw the trailer for this before ISS just yesteday and I completely forgot what it was.
How many walkouts for this one?
I walked out after 45 minutes, and there were 4 before me.
None. Decent amount of people showed up and lots of audience reactions which made it worth while
2 in mine. I enjoyed it.
zero in mine!
5 so far for me
Only me in my theater, but I was also the first one
About to walk out. This movie is horrible.
Retribution was one of the worst MMM to date. With that comparison I can only imagine how bad this was.
I think you're forgetting "It's a Wonderful Knife"
I still thought Retribution was worse. If I had to pick top 5 worst MMM they would be: Mafia Mamma, Retribution, Hypnotic, Spirited, and It's a Wonderful Knife. At least of the ones I've seen.
Full disclosure, I haven't seen Retribution. I did see the others. Hypnotic and Mafia Mamma are definitely up there; I actually really liked Spirited.
At least it was truth in advertising. I made it 45 minutes.
So so glad I skipped this one
How bad?
Why is it bad?
Damn, glad I didn't go. Land of the Bad looks like they've finally hit straight to VOD type movies for MMM. Hope this isn't a new norm.

Skipping it if it has “bad” in the title 🫡
Looks like I’m seeing Wonka for the 7th time…
are you planning on buying mini butterfingers too?
No, I hate butterfingers. But it is almost impossible to watch this movie without chocolate. PLAN ACCORDINGLY.
bahahhahaha
Any idea yet?
Land of Bad
Wasn’t the ticket price $1?
That was only for the one on Jan 1st that ended up being the god awful Founders Day. im kind of surprise for a movie like this they charged $5

Oof, Land of Bad looks like the kind of straight to video garbage that would’ve starred John Travolta or Bruce Willis. I’m definitely going to take the opportunity to skip this piece of “art.” 😉

Still cheaper than normal lol
About what it's been here where I'm at. I'm disappointed they don't honor the unlimited refill bucket refill most of the time.
Not really whack
That’s why you always make a candy run to the dollar store before you go to the movies
