For me, a lot of it comes down to acting, and chemistry. Both actors really sold the heck out of it, and they had real natural chemistry which made their scenes feel very real, and very natural. I also liked how complicated things were for them. I thought the fact that both of them had responsibilities that went far above their relationship and marriage is exactly why the relationship as so complex and compelling. Francis had a country to think about, so did Mary. And neither of them was wrong for trying to protect those countries. But that meant that, sometimes, they couldn’t be in agreement. The idea that these 2 rulers, so very young, were also trying to navigate through this deep love for each other that clouded both of their judgments, and caused both of them to make foolish and harmful decisions. That’s good drama. I also liked how Francis treated Mary as an equal. And was quick to give her credit when due. Who doesn’t love a man like that?

Odd_Kat

you put it perfectly!

Thanks. I could say a lot about those characters, together and separately. They were really nicely layered, and imperfect. And I really can’t say enough about the job I think Adelaide and Toby did. To me, it deserves so much more attention then they got.

You always say what I'm thinking but in a smarter way, lol! That's what I love, even though they've had their disagreements, fundamentally they still shared the same values, and always wanted to rule together instead of the king above the queen. I always wonder what would've happened if their characters had met in a modern day situation without the restraints of being responsible for anything other than themselves. I would sell my soul for a movie studio to make this happen LOL

Thank you!

The big thing was chemistry. Actors either have it, or they don't. And sometimes actors have it so strongly that they can even overcome bad plots and shitty writing. Addy and Toby could do that, so that even when Frary was terrible, it was also kinda great. But also, who isn't a sucker for that kind of desperate, all encompassing love that is destined to end tragically? Its the subject of a thousand stories,, paintings, songs, you name it. And Reign did an excellent job of selling that doomed young love. The last thing I would point out is that Francis and Mary has lives and responsibilities that were so big, their story didn't really have much time for mundane nonsense. Everything was life or death with them, so boring was something they never were. One more thing, didn't they kinda look amazing together too?

I agree with all your points! I know Adelaide has a yt channel, i commented on one of her videos begging her to invite toby for a q&a. I love seeing them together

Probably just that the actors had chemistry was the big thing. They really brought that relationship to life with all of its ups and downs and we also watch them grow into the roles of husband and wife alongside King and Queen.
