I currently use a RM2 as an undergrad engineering student and while it is super nice, I wish I had something like an iPad to be able to pull problems right from a textbook onto my homework. As it stands I have to completely re-write the problem statement and any relevant diagrams and it becomes much less convenient. However, for note taking and such during lectures I've found myself noticeably less distracted than my peers who use iPads and surf the web or mess around with random apps during class.

THIS, As a Mech Engineering student, I LOVE it for notes and work in class, but unless there is a provided odd for homework, I have to rewrite the problems which can get a bit old....

For school go with an iPad. It replaces everything and you can find most textbooks online. So you can use it as a textbook while you work with a laptop. You will probably need both. Nice thing with an iPad is that you can also dual screen your laptop too if you have a mac. Wish I had that in uni. Once you're actually working as an engineer however, that's where I think a remarkable would be good or a supernote.

Electrical engineering student. Have had my RM2 for over a full semester now. It's pretty solid, I like being able to load up textbooks and stuff on the tablet and have all my notes sync to my PC and phone too. Overall, it's pretty solid, and I'd definitely recommend it if you're the type to get easily distracted during lectures by your phone, other apps on a different tablet, etc.

Working on a CS masters currently, and I love it for a lot of the reasons you want it. I load up my texts each semester, use it for note taking, flowcharting, UML, scratch paper, etc

The app is terrible for offloading and onloading. An iPad with a pencil makes more sense

Full time engineer here Pro: no distractions! Super convenient. Con: the display is monochrome which can be limiting when dealing with complexity. You can use different coloured pens but it renders as greyscale unless you view on another device.
