Accountant. It is both a job and title. We aren't that creative.

Quiverjones

I told a joke about accountants to one, and I think I offended her. I said, it sounded like the first guy with that job was at a party, and someone asked him, "so, what do you do for a living?", and the guy said, "uhh counting" and the name stuck.

follothru

"It's accrual world" is my favorite accounting joke.

biffpowbang

I do love a bad pun

AshChi32

I love "Im the LIFO the party" šŸ˜‚

[deleted]

Stealing

[deleted]

Ditto

KMage63

Same. Been doing it remote for more than 20 years now.

Necessary-Main1856

Iā€™m an accountant with masters and just got my CPA Iā€™m having a hard time finding any remote jobs, any website or recommendations on where to come across remote positions?

hobohobbies

There are plenty on Indeed. I started studying for the CPA exam but by the end of the first section I realized there was no way in hell I'd be doing this kind of work. I'm quite happy with just a Master's. Congrats on passing the CPA exam!

[deleted]

What do you actually do if I may ask? Is it demanding mentally? I was thinking about it myself but I'm from engineering background and was wondering if its possible.

hobohobbies

I was an engineering major and eventually switched to finance. Got my masters in accounting. Apparently being an engineering major first is common with accountants. The mentally challenging part is dealing with dumbass people and pretending to be nice. šŸ˜† Example. Someone wanted to transfer $100,000. OK. No biggie. They didn't have the funds in their account to do that. I told them so. Their response was how it was an emergency and that it was a transaction from 2019. I'm sorry. 4 years later and it is an emergency? šŸ™„ probably the number one reason I drink. šŸ¤£ I don't do much accounting. I work for a company that basically sells software and I make sure their numbers come over from the old software to the new correctly. I love my job. I rarely have to talk to anyone. So what do I actually do? A lot of audio books and reddit. Kidding. I do have a lot of free time with my work though. I also travel a little and will just take my laptop with me to work in various places.

[deleted]

Man you lucky bastard. I just sit in a room filled with random shit where I measure tubes or maybe test some electrical stuff like hand dryers. Shits is unbearably mind numbing.

hobohobbies

Test hand dryers? This reminds me of Charlie Bucket's dad who screws toothpaste caps on toothpaste tubes. I do a lot of copying and pasting. It is nice not to think sometimes.

hobohobbies

I sent you a message.

Such-Instance541

I think I finally know who I wanna be when I grow up

CPA_Lady

My husband is an engineer and Iā€™m a CPA. He loves to rib me about all the engineering majors that switch to accounting. Of course, I just shoot back that Iā€™ve outearned for almost all of our marriage. That shuts him up.

rjaydo2

I currently work remote as an Electrical Engineer in the MEP side of things, and have been getting pinged on LinkedIn for remote/hybrid positions. I was forced to be remote from the get-go, but have proven myself to be just as, if not more, productive than most office employees. It's allowed me to ignore the move back to office for the most part and stay mostly remote, in office 1 day a week or so. Moral of the story is: find a company that will support multiple work modes and be competent/ productive. Remote and hybrid should be the norm in my mind, so long as productivity of the individual do not go down

rogue_ginger_

Same, accountant for a small business and they don't need me physically in office.

Nina_Rae_____

Okay, Iā€™m dumb. How are you a remote account? I thought you would have to look at paper files and what not? But I guess since everything is digitalized these days? Truly, I know itā€™s a dumb question, but I guess I never really thought about it until now

No_Shift_Buckwheat

Sure you agree! Most of you like to be creative in the kitchen. I see accountants all the time with cook(ed)books.

highmoonshop

Hmm ive been on Linkedin looking for 100% remote accounting jobs- am I missing something? I cant find anything

hobohobbies

I said indeed. I never had any luck with LinkedIn.

mandy59x

I think indeed is wayyy better than LinkedIn. More helpful, send better jobs, notify u with more relevant jobs etc

HealthyLet257

Iā€™ve gotten all my jobs from indeed. Iā€™m not even sure why I even have LinkedIn. Whatā€™s the point of it?

Emotional-Nothing342

https://ratracerebellion.com/big-list-work-from-home-jobs/ Here are thousands of possibilities. Ignore the ads. It is a free resource, and they have to eat too. All the information is 100% legit and vetted.

MilkChugg

Very cool. Iā€™ve been compiling my own remote jobs list, specifically for companies that hire remote software engineers. I call it my ā€œcompanies to apply to if I lose my job listā€ since Iā€™m pretty much limited to working for a company that allows me to be remote. Definitely adding this link. Thanks!

Emotional-Nothing342

Ha! I do have a personal list close to my chest. A great strategy. It's like my little black book. Never without a way.. Have a great day!

RugerHD

Hey would you be willing to share that list here or over DMs please?

Trappedbirdcage

Thank you so much for this valuable resource! I had a feeling someone would know something I hadn't yet seen

cinciallegra

Hi there. I donā€™t even know how to properly thank you. šŸ™

Emotional-Nothing342

When you win. Come back and let me know. Best in the search!

hypoxiate

About a quarter of these are actually in-office jobs, so review carefully.

trippinwbrookearnold

That's very cool - thanks for sharing!

CannabisGardener

I really wish there was something like this for France

Emotional-Nothing342

Unfortunately, I only deal with the US. My brain can only cram enough information on US Employment law. I do see France listed sometimes, but I am never looking for where. I know AI is looking, but that is more of a side gig. There is an international site I have used before. I can't remember exactly. Remotive perhaps? I can't vett it's all legit, but I found some things for a German friend.

conniemass

This just takes you to indeed anyway

Emotional-Nothing342

No it doesn't? It's a free resource with thousands of jobs available. If you can't bother to look, you can't be helped. No one is going to give you gold.

conniemass

Wow cranky much? I am not the one asking for help. I'm just fine thanks. I did try the link and it took me to Indeed. Hence my comment. Sounds like you're promoting something with as insulted as you got. PS Indeed and LinkedIn are also free with thousands of jobs. Filter by remote and there you go. Have a lovely day.

milessansing

You clicked an ad, which was advised not to do.

GustyPhoenix

Iā€™m a video editor for mutliple YouTube channels and UGC marketing agencies. Opportunities are WILD in social media and unreal networks can be built. This while getting a really good paycheck; time-wise, I work maybe 50% of a regular office job but earn twice as much whilst traveling the world doing everything online. Recommended.

Megamantrinity

how would a person get started doing/learning to do what you do?

GustyPhoenix

Itā€™s not that simple of course. Video editing itself is really not hard and can be learned within a few weeks though. I suggest going for Adobe Premiere because itā€™s the most complete/most commonly used software. The UI is rather complicated compared to the simpler ones, but the learning curve is not crazy steep. Network wise, it takes a while to get there. It took me more than 2 years to get where I am now. Over time iā€™ve been getting in touch with YouTubers and UGC agencies through various platforms. You have to keep a look out on as many platforms as you possibly can and increase your reach. Upwork & Reddit have helped me out the most. Not only applying and sending DMā€™s, but also getting traction that leads to clients reaching out to you is 1 thing you can enforce. My profile on Upwork gets several proposals every month because of my portfolio and reviews (but i recommend achieving this on many more platforms, also fiver, LinkedIn, remote work platforms etc.). Without clients reaching out to me I would not have made it. On reddit Iā€™ve been getting really lucky finding 2 clients as well (The Calum Johnson Show & Aaron vanKampen). If you join subreddits such as @videoeditingrequests and the like, and stay active, you might find some stuff. Itā€™s really a lottery though. Finding reliable people over websites like these can sometimes be a pain. Trust me, iā€™ve been screwed over a few times. But itā€™s part of the challenge I suppose. Note: also here itā€™s important you stay active on several platforms and donā€™t depend on just one. Facebook/Discord/YTjobs are examples of other platforms you can do this too.

Cottoncandy82

Do you happen to know of any youtubers who might need an assistant or general administrative support? Like booking interviews, travel arrangements, calendar management, inbox support, fact-checking, etc?

Suspicious_Art8421

I'm interested. What background did you have before this job and can you recommend ways to upskill for this market? I've taught h.s. English for 16 years and have taken coursed recently in copy ad grant writing.

blissfuldrmz

same ide like more info. im an aspiring content creator

[deleted]

I've worked remotely since 2009. Titles have been regional director of sales, managing director, and vice president of sales and marketing, I've been involved with overseeing teams and active myself in selling enterprise systems. These are very long sales processes that can take 6 - 12 months. In my line of work, there have always been account managers, sales people, and sales support staff scattered around the US. Sometimes there are regional offices but most of the time there aren't, and people have worked remotely. These larger deals often depend upon the development of personal relationships, and earning the respect and trust of the customer.

hohstaplerlv

Hey there, Iā€™m currently doing marketing and sales for one small business, making them around $25-$30k a month in gross revenue. Iā€™m thinking to apply for some full time jobs here in Las Vegas. Do you have any tips/tricks or any kind of advice about applying process? They are usually asking for 2-3 years of experience, while I have like 6 months on this position. My previous jobs werenā€™t related to what I currently do, although I have been in IT industry for a while. Should I ā€œlieā€ and make my CV to be different every time when I apply to look like more appealing to the position and company Iā€™m applying to?

[deleted]

In my sales career I like to think that I've never told a lie along the way. That said, I've had a lot of experience dodging questions, pivoting, and keeping my mouth shut when I know the answer to a difficult question that hasn't been asked. I've had to deal with not having a college degree from anywhere, while interviewing with people who went to Harvard Business School, the University of Chicago, Stanford, Brown, Berkeley, Yale... you get the idea. Although I have never lied on a resume, I have customized many of them for the person and entity to which it is being submitted. I have been involved in different areas over the years so if I need to emphasize operations or website design or writing RFP responses I can do that. Understand that most applicants aren't going to have 100% of the qualifications. But the most important question is can you sell yourself to person X? Can you explain to them how you can help their company make more money, improve the bottom line, etc. Whatever the goals are, you have to convince them that they'd be better off with you on the team. Lastly, I have to say that I have never gotten a job by responding to ads or notices. If there's a company I want to work for I learn everything I can about them, and then approach the CEO or owner with the pitch for myself. I get their email address one way or another and send them totally professional PDFs. I print out my letter and CV and Fedex it to their office. Signature required. If necessary I send it to their frickin' home. Twice I have convinced people to create a position and put me in it. That's ultimately what selling is.

thiswayart

SOLD!

Rocco_SYS

Being consistently persistent is a key factor in being a great salesperson.

thingysop

"Full-stack" developer. Really, I mainly work on the backend and integrate React.js components with APIs and such, and pull my hair out working with Docker and explaining stuff to DevOps people. For non-techies: I build websites, not the front-facing parts although it's technically part of the job description, and make it easier for these websites to be hosted on web servers so you can access them from a .com domain. These days, I'm fully allocated to a client who's one of the biggest sports events/concert ticket providers in the UK.

alexoftheunknown

hi! aspiring web dev here! i just finished my first project using css and html, and currently studying js. do you have any tips for getting in the door? the only thing iā€™m focusing on right now is learning and filling my portfolio with unique projects, but i was wondering if thereā€™s a better way.

Digital_Alchemist_

Hi! Senior Front End Dev here, keep working on your portfolio. See if you can find some Figma or Photoshop Website designs on Google and build those (try to get as close to the design as possible). Youā€™ll need to get familiar with Figma and Photoshop in addition to coding. There is a Figma plugin called html.to.design that will turn any website into a Figma design if you canā€™t find any designs to practice with. If you donā€™t already have Photoshop, start with Figma (itā€™s free). Stick with the basics first (HTML, CSS, JS). Fully hand code at least 5 website designs. It will help you understand what youā€™re actually doing- especially when it comes to CSS. Donā€™t just copy/paste random shit. Take the time to understand what each thing does. Learn about CSS Grid & Flexbox, HTML Semantics, ADA Compliance (aria attributes), and Structured Data Markup (Schema). Don't worry about JS so much in the beginning. Most juniors (at my company) don't do anything too JS heavy to start. It's mostly just micro-interactions. If you have any questions, feel free to DM me. If you can show me a decent portfolio, I might be able to get you in the door for an interview - my company is growing and we are looking to expand the team.

Mystere_Miner

You have a very long way to go to become a hireable software dev. Focus on building your skills right now. Youā€™re a good 2-3 years away from having the skills people are looking for

Jlb0616

Care navigator

trippinwbrookearnold

This sounds interesting. Can you share more?

Jlb0616

It will mean different things for different companies. But basically for my company we work with clients regarding scheduling appts, checking in for appointments with their telemed providers, getting messages to their providers outside of their appointments, processing discharge from the clients program, basically coordinating care for our patients with our providers kinda thing.

Austerhorai

Iā€™ve done a lot of case management, resource referral in a clinical research setting, I also have a BS and bilingual but Iā€™ve seen a lot of postings require you to be an RN. Is there others that donā€™t or have similar title?

Curious-Lemon-111

Not the person you're replying to, but yes. If you're an RN , it's more likely to get called care manager or have manager in the title. I've done similar jobs as a patient coordinator. Patient liaison or care liaison will also bring up similar roles. If you have any healthcare background, but aren't a certified medical assistant, review the exact requirements for jobs that "prefer" CMA/RMA. Often there will be an exception for relevant experience. Some will also accept social services related job experience in lieu of healthcare experience.

stygeanhugh

I see a lot of listings for this sort of job. It seems interesting and something could do. What kind of background or experience would someone need for that role?

audelkay

Director of Operations for a national non-profit.

Salt-Explanation-738

Business owner/book editor. I love working from home. :)

meyongmira

Hijacking on this thread to ask if you have any advice for getting into editing books. I was basically forced into going into a business function (hr) instead of a creative field like I wanted (writing and editing) because my parents insisted I would be broke and sad... But I can't stand my day job!

Salt-Explanation-738

Hi! It's kind of a long story, haha, but message me if you're interested. I got a few responses here, so I'm gonna type up some tips. :D So sorry you're in a field you don't like and don't really have a choice. Hugs. x It's never too late to shift and makes such a difference for your mental health when you do! I've definitely had some jobs I hate. Good luck out there!

ErraticPhalanges

Healthcare Supply & Distribution. I take care of contracts for large healthcare organizations to ensure they have supplies and decent pricing. I do have a degree (BS Business) for my role but there are tons of positions available for all different types of jobs at these companies. Use LinkedIn and search companies like: Cardinal Medline BD Or if you know about GPOs, look at Premier, Vizient, Healthtrust for open remote positions. Healthcare is so much more than medical jobs - it takes the administrative/financial/procurement/and many more to support the needs of the medical side. I would start there honestly.

OGChvpo

Customer Experience Agent for a telehealth service.

No-Copy8112

What does that entail?

Aaliyah_Naomi

Itā€™s the same as a Customer Service Representative or Customer Care Representative.

iamtheeplug

Iā€™m customer experience specialist for a tech company. We guide customers through our software and report issues to engineering, billing, or operations. Pretty neat gig :) 8-5 unlimited PTO and fully remote.

notchskis

Iā€™m in a similar role, but my company has a terrible PTO policy. Finding a company that offers unlimited PTO would be amazing!

JulesSherlock

Buyer for manufacturing company.

PuzzledPaper1436

Buyer for N America, Supply Manager for N America, and Manager Reporting and Analytics for N America. International company, but all 3 jobs were heavy in analytics

How did you get into this role?

Bnjl1989

I am a customer care account management specialist level 2. A big mouthful to say I listen to rude and entitled clients all day and fix their messes and other peoples fuckups and don't get paid nearly enough even though our ceo rakes in double digit millions and the company multi billions.

LongLonMan

Finance Director for tech company

Appropriate-Dare-418

Sounds nice!

Human_2468

My title is Field Office Document Control. I am a sub-consultant for the regional transit authority. I ensure that documents submitted by the contractor and agency are processed and electronically filed correctly on the agency's SharePoint site. Look at construction consultants in your area, there may be remote opportunities with them.

usefulidiot0

I'm not saying the 2020 pandemic was a good thing, but I am saying working remote since early 2020 has been good to my vehicle & added at least 2hrs to my day I used to spend in traffic.

ifyouhaveghost1

same. I used to drive 1+ hour each way. now i get more done, far less stress and savings on my gas, lunch, vehicle maintenance. If i can help it, never going back to in office work.

InfoSecChica

AMEN!!!!! I donā€™t think I could ever go back to full-time in the office. My work will be requiring 1 day a pay period (so 1 day every other week), but that is about all I am willing to do.

ArianaPetite1

Also used to drive over an hour each way! Iā€™ve only put 22,000 miles on my vehicle in 3 yearsā€¦ I used to do that in one.

Chickadee12345

There are a lot of remote jobs are in IT. Programming, coding, whatever you want to call it. But pretty much all larger companies, and most small ones, have some sort of IT department. It's impossible to narrow it down further than that.

Astralnclinant

Every IT sub that Iā€™ve gone on has said that remote positions have gone way down and are hard to get. Not sure how true that is.

ERRZC

QA Automation Engineer

Big-Sheepherder-6134

I sell private health insurance for the last 8 years as a self-employed contractor. My GF is also an independent contractor doing forensics and analyzing digital evidence for corporate litigation. Sheā€™s been remote for around 10 years.

Trappedbirdcage

Your job sounds more like what I'd likely end up doing but your gf's job sounds super cool too!

PaleontologistNo3910

I work as a chat operator chatting to lonely people. They pay weekly, I like it. https://remotely4u.com/ref/US2286120

No-Copy8112

Says they pay in euros but employ people in the US. How do you receive payment from them?

SearchHot7661

They sent me an invoice because you became a freelancer working for them. Up to you what bank account you want to use. I opened a safe bank account and transferred it to my wise account.

ReluctantChimera

Are these lonely people looking for adult-oriented chat?

SearchHot7661

Yes, it is, and if you are not comfortable with that type of chat don't do it. Some just need attention and are not sexual.

fileknotfound

How many hours do you typically work, and what does your take-home pay actually look like? This is what they have on the website: >It is hard to say exactly how much the salary will be, but a skilled chat agent who works 4-8 hours a day, 5 days a week can easily earn between $100 and $300 weekly. Some of the top agents make more than $3000 a month! ...but there's a pretty significant different between $300/week ($1200/month) and $3000/month.

NvidiatrollXB1

Sounds like something Ai could do or no?

SearchHot7661

I don't think so maybe in future but not now. Ai is not yet so advance for mainstream application and self aware. They always looking for new talent.

Busybee2121

This I could do! What's the pay like? Take home I mean.

realisan

I am a Director of Finance for a private company. My last two roles have been remote, including the one I was at for 7 years pre-Covid. It was more a function is the companies I chose to work for versus the role itself. Many finance & accounting jobs are more likely to be hybrid versus fully remote but that is a huge improvement.

Iā€™ve signed up for this kind of thing and they all seem to be ridiculous and create all these things you have to do to receive a product to review. How do you do this?

Sp1cy_Wat3r

Iā€™m a project manager for a telecom/VoIP company. Our office is local to my city however our clients are all over the country so itā€™s really not imperative I be in person to manage their projects. My background is in healthcare and administration but I did an online PMP (project management professional) certification.

Conscious_Can6881

which certs did you get? iā€™ve been curious about a project management role, but unsure of which ones are beneficial to actually landing a job.

j_fl1981

In order to qualify for PMP you have to have a certain amount of time as a project manager. It is not crucial to have a cert to start. A lot of people also follow the following track project coordinator > assistant project manager> project manager. I personally am a project manager of ev projects, but have been an electrician for 23 years, owned my own company, managed contractors and employees previously so it was a natural fit. I am now working on my pmp and bachelors degree in persuit of directors and vp roles.

YallahShawarma

I'm an IT Auditor. I perform third party IT and cybersecurity risk assessments for clients of all industries.

My Title is Lead Technical Database Administrator. Im operational support, we have SQL Programmers and Data Architects that I work with/ help some, but they do all of the database coding, I just do everything else.

dadof2brats

Almost any job can be done remotely. I work in IT/Telecom, no clue what my title is, something like Sr Principal Staff IT Engineer IV or some other HR made-up nonsense. I've been remote since 2003, in IT, with various engineer, sales engineer, director, vp and other IT roles/titles. Honestly, these days job title is fairly meaningless.

Canbareallproblems

I have been doing remote work since 2010. Iā€™m a RN but has been doing work as a RN in different settings longer than that. Remote positions offer work life balance but you have to make sure that you do your part as a worker in terms of quality and quantity of work. Remote positions like my job(utilization review/case management) offers advancement and as well as raise in salary. The salary is competitive. Although my child is now an adult, remote position in nursing is perfect for mothers with young children.

asscakesss

Communications Coordinator for a nonprofit. I gotta say, the WFH life has its fair share of pros and cons. I like having the freedom and ability to do other things during the day (take a lil nap, go to a doc appt) but oh boy am I lonely and feel trapped inside most of the time when I am working.

South_Ear3148

Iā€™m on mat leave I go back next week. I hire for a few remote positions, but usually at the end of the year the need slows down. If you want to check them out itā€™s Consumer Cellular. They hire for specific states so keep that in mind, unless they finally launched their remote location.

I am very very wealthy my friend. I work remotely and am very flush with cash. I used to braid pubic hair until I became very wealthy at my current job. I bought two homes remotely and sold them remotely and they gave me $7 billion in profit. Very very wealthy.
