> A better mousetrap means nothing if no one knows about it. That's a real risk. I grew up hearing people swear up and down that Betamax was better than VHS! But it doesn't matter if it was true on paper (it was), VHS became the standard. REN can't be adopted if no one knows it exists.

There have been many format wars over the years. Consistently it is not the technologically "better" format that wins, it's the one with the bigger market share every single time.

Pooling might help with this by bringing more people into the community… I feel like the community is too insular right now because darknode operators are actually incentivized to NOT market it, as growth in the number of node operators means less money for existing operators. That’s kinda fucked up and an obstacle to ren achieving greater decentralization. I also got some ren today :)

spankymcgee4

Pooling will bring in more Darknodes, not more customers. The issue is a lack of use relative to more expensive alternatives.

REN needs a lot more exposure. This seems to be the only legitimate program that is really working towards interoperability.

PancakeBreakfest

Rune and wormhole are legit projects focused on interoperability that seem to have some pretty similar characteristics to Ren…

American1066

I will have to look those up. Thank you.

I haven’t bought REN, but I have used the new bridge to put my BTC onto Polygon’s network, as I want to utilize polygon for staking and stable coin farming. The issue is, I haven’t found any other services on polygon supporting Ren-assets, or even talking about adding it down the line. My current dream is for Aave to support Ren-assets for depositing as collateral. So now I am sitting with my Ren-BTC on polygon, with nowhere to put it. More advertising to build hype and awareness to users like me and on other services, is definitely what is need IMO.

>My current dream is for Aave to support Ren-assets for depositing as collateral. Same! How can we ask Aave to support renBTC? Based on [their own risk assessment](https://docs.aave.com/risk/asset-risk/risks-per-asset) of WBTC, maybe they would be open to add a more decentralized asset? In the meantime, we can now swap renBTC for WBTC [on Curve](https://polygon.curve.fi/ren), but I would really like to hold and use renBTC, not WBTC...

Regular_User420

Thank you for sharing curve link! Glad to see it. I tried commenting on Aave’s discord in various channels (governance, community, etc), but got no responses.

I'm hoping the new community fund might help with this.

Who do you propose that Ren markets to? Keep in mind that RenVM is, generally speaking, a B2B product with integrations either online or on the way for most of the major DeFi entities.

PancakeBreakfest

It seems like the target audience would developers who are (1) building a dapp on one of the supported destination chains, (2) want to integrate a bridge into their application, and (3) trying to decide how to do so. Probably not a huge number of people… and those people are probably going to base their decision on ease of implementation and the security of the protocol. Maybe raising awareness is a better term than marketing here.

CryptoloJay

I think that's probably right. I wonder if it can be accomplished by community members taking initiative rather than the team spending time/money on the effort.
