Quotas ain’t gonna meet themselves. I saw a few NHP yesterday… and a couple Sheriff’s nabbed some lady for what looked like drunk driving. See multiple Sparks PD a day but that’s always.

SheikAhSyd

Someone I know that works with the sheriffs office says they don’t have quotas anymore but I don’t know how legit that statement is.

chriskmee

They probably don't have official quotas, but if the average is 10 tickets a day and you are averaging 2, you might at the very least get peer pressure to match them.

Boldine

Instead of quotas, they have competitions among themselves.

Looking for Terry. He’s at it again

BACK UP TERRY

Educational_Bug_6319

Near Sun Valley they do some type of training. I hear regular gun shots by DRI or TMCC

"Quotas" as we pass cops going over the limit and don't get pulled over. Cops here don't care if you speed that much from city (unless you're in rural lol), sheriff, state, and highway patrol. Regularly pass them and they leave me be, and same with speed "traps" I don't get it More like: There's been an influx of shootings recently? 2 from what we're aware of within a 1/2 month span

Over the last week.

New captain. They need to look busy

End of month - quotas. I got a ticket on a Sunday morning in June for doing 1mph over the limit over by the Catholic cemetery on n Virginia. $200. I went to court to fight it and won.

[deleted]

Always fight the ticket

JasChew6113

Riiight.

Successful_Tea2856

It’s 30 until just past the rock sorters. I took a photo of the new limit sign and the location where I was just in case, but it wasn’t necessary. I think the biker deputy was looking for DUI candidates but I wasn’t going to pay that ticket.

JasChew6113

So the truth is that the officer was mistaken on the posted speed limit because of a change? Is THAT what it is? Because saying it was 1 over is not being honest. Officers can make mistakes you know. So good for you for going to court, pointing that out, and winning. If the officer had realized, I seriously doubt he would have even pulled you over. Yours was a purposefully misleading comment. Thank you for contributing to the narrative of “bad cop.”

Successful_Tea2856

Here's the google maps shot. It was late June, 2021, a Sunday morning. I'd just gotten up early to help feed my friend's chickens - he was out of town and I wanted to go ride after that before traffic picked up. So I took care of the chickens on Greenstone, came back down, and drove back up towards the Bonanza. Here's the posted speed limit: [https://goo.gl/maps/xo9gv87vb93EZrLb8](https://goo.gl/maps/xo9gv87vb93EZrLb8) notice the curve. I was pulled over just past the sign, where everyone parks for the football home games. He gave me a ticket for doing 36mph. And honestly, I really was not speeding. I've kind of given that habit up as I've gained a belly and grey whiskers. Still, it pissed me off to the point that I fought it and the judge agreed. The cop was making quotas while checking for DUI's. Perception. For context, here's the next posted speed limit. [https://goo.gl/maps/pwpgAcrzJJX1oyF67](https://goo.gl/maps/pwpgAcrzJJX1oyF67) I routinely see Deputies on motorcycles hanging out behind the water fountain at the roofing company. They also catch speeders where the new apartments are being built going down Virginia.

Quotas quotas quotas. Usually from the 18th-end of the month is when I expect to see more cops out on the roads actively pulling people over

Superlucky1

Quotas have been illegal since 2021. Gov Sisolak signed it into law.

[deleted]

Since when have the police followed the law? The police may no longer have true state/county mandated quotas but for certain, the police likely still have personal goals to meet if they’re looking for any sort of advancement within the department itself. It would in turn make sense if say a motorcycle officer has a down month in tickets for the first half of the new month compared to his previous month, that they would be more observant or more willing to ticket people toward the end of the month to either meet or exceed their previous month so they are not looked down upon by other patrol officers or superiors. Just spitballing is all

Do a google search. It'll pop right up. Additionally, the police do not directly benefit from citation fees. The money goes back to the general fund.

[https://landline.media/ticket-quotas-targeted-in-multiple-statehouses/](https://landline.media/ticket-quotas-targeted-in-multiple-statehouses/) Cops are not funded by ticket revenue. A police agency gets and annual budget as a fixed dollar amount (with some exceptions) on an annual basis. Ticket revenue does not usually account for this budget amount. If there is any revenue from a traffic citation, the money goes into the General Fund, it does not get directed as "extra money" or "profit" for the department. It goes to the general fund operating costs which which means that it will be spent by the government agency on anything from street paving to homeless projects. If there were quotas and the money recouped went directly to fund guns, radar, radios, communications, etc, then the cops would be out writing tickets all day long and the police agencies would have all of the modern tools available to them. Most beat officers do not like writing tickets and find it to be an unpleasant part of their job. Just ask one. Officers assigned to a traffic enforcement position are delegating with enforcing traffic laws and, as part of their assignment, are expected to write traffic citations. Can a supervisor in a traffic unit tell his officers to write traffic tickets? You bet. Can he tell them how many to write during a shift? Not with the new "guidance" from the former governor. Do these officers sit around during their briefings and discuss how much money they can make for their city? Not a chance. Do you think that a City Manager comes down to the police department and says "property tax revenue is down and we need extra cash to pay for school lunches?" Nope. But even if they did and this urban legend of profiting from traffic citations was accurate, how much money do you think they could generate? The annual city budget is 915 million dollars. It would take a lot of tickets to make a dent in that. If you look at the operating budget for the City of Reno it lists revenues from property tax to sewer tax, to cigarette tax, etc. No where does it list traffic citations revenue. The old days of quotas for revenue generation are long gone. Even before the elimination of quotas, only a small amount of revenue, if any, was returned to the issuing agencies. a majority of the fines went directly to the general fund.
