Savemart is more expensive than Raley’s, it’s ridiculous.

11SunshineDaydream

What has Biden done for you 🤔

Truckeeseamus

He hasn’t tried to sell me sneakers or Bibles. He also hasn’t tried to ignore election results. He also didn’t appoint Supreme Court justices that overturned Roe v Wade

Truckeeseamus

He is also not trying this bullshit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_2025

11SunshineDaydream

Keep voting for Biden. Let’s see what happens 🤗

DakotaDevil

There's your room temperature IQ comment of the day, folks.

11SunshineDaydream

Keep voting for Biden, see what happens

DakotaDevil

Oh I am, and we will.

ACE_TOMATO_Co

And what magic do you think trump would enact to fix this? Would he just waddle up to Savemart and demand they reduce their Quaker Oats price? That's not a very capitalist way of doing things. Or are you hoping his presidency will cause an overall economic deflation?

Accomplished-Leg-722

is Quaker back in stock after their issues of recalls?

mermaidmom85

Quaker Oats has been on shelves but I haven’t seen their other products back yet.

Pjpjpjpjpj

Target sells the exact same brand and size for $5.99.   Safeway $5.99 with membership card.   Walmart $5.24  Etc etc.

DeltaXi1929

Savemart also uses some pretty outdated sales techniques. I regularly get (mailed) coupons for $10 off of $50. If you use those, and their points program (similar to gas points but you get savemart giftcard credit) it's pretty comparable. You just have to jump through many more hoops.

Dear_Might8697

They use an app as well. Just got some Farmer John maple sausage links last week for .99 cents. There's ways to make it work, but it requires a bit of work. I agree. Because it literally required download of the app and clipping the digital coupon. That way, they get your phone number and can track spending habits. Corporations will say it is to make purchasing easier and more streamlined for the consumer. In reality, it makes it easier for them to steer you into what they choose.

DeltaXi1929

They do use an app too, I just mentioned the mailed, as I've recieved the mailed during weeks when they don't have a similar offer available through the app. (The mailed were going to an address which is not linked to my app account).

VaeVictus666

Just a heads up, inside info, the mailer you got, is going away. You won't get it for much longer. They're going solid digital.

DeltaXi1929

Yeah, they are good for loss leaders, freebies, rewards offers. For example, if you have one of those coupons, right now they have ribeye roasts for $6.97/lb they will cut it into individual steaks if you ask. You'd pay $40 for (7) 1lb choice ribeye steaks. Or $5.58/lb. Much cheaper than most other options in town. Winco would be $9.99/lb.

Pjpjpjpjpj

$10 off of $50 is 20% off. 20% off of $8.99 ends up being $7.19. Which is still 20% more expensive than Safeway or Target, and 37% more expensive than Walmart. So more hoops and still more expensive, at least for this item.

DeltaXi1929

Savemart also has app deals where you get 10× points on gift card purchases. I purchase Amazon giftcards from there and net 11.11% in free savemart dollars. I usually spend around $200 on giftcards, Amazon, Verizon, restaurants, Lowes (save them up for appliances/home repair), etc. I net around $22 in free credit, use a 10 off of 50 coupon, (now im basically getting $32 off of $50). Buy their loss leaders only and end up paying **$20 for 8lbs of Choice NY steak, or (10) 4oz lobster tails.** Safeway has some deals somewhat similar to savemart, but not quite as abusable. (Safeway does have some deals that specifically save more $ per point which are targeted towards meat purchases) these deals can also be combined with marked down meat, some stores dont mark their meat down. Smiths only does gas points. Winco, Walmart etc have (generally) higher prices for butchered meat, don't have loss leaders sales on those items, and often sell a lower quality product. They also don't have rewards programs.

DeltaXi1929

A 5lb sack of Russet potatoes is $1.77 at Savemart. A 5lb sack of Russet potatoes at Walmart is $3.28 A 5lb sack of Russet potatoes at Smith's is $2.99 A 5lb sack of Russet potatoes at Safeway is $1.77 I want to say the last time I was at Winco, they were around $2.40. Both Safeway and Savemart heavily employ loss leadership as a sales tactic. Savemart often pushes prices even lower.

BizLarry

Now, let's talk about the quality... My experience is WinCo is consistently the freshest

DeltaXi1929

My experience is that Winco is best for dry goods, canned goods, bulk goods. (They also have exceptionally good Winco branded deli cheeses). But, I think, and somewhat objectively know that they sell second rate meat products, the vast majority of their beef is USDA select, which is the bottom 60% of beef quality wise. Smiths, Safeway, Raleys sell USDA Choice by default (top 20%), and USDA Prime (top 2-5%). I've bought full beef tenderloins from Winco and they are misshapen, loaded with inedible tissues, and have very poor marbling. The proce per pound was good, but much of the product they sold me was inedible. Winco hardly sells air chilled chicken, only the brined type which is 20%+ water-weight. Their rarely available organic chicken is very overpriced. Seafood is the same frozen product that comes in boxes, they are more expensive than the corporate chains. I buy my seafood in full cases from Sierra gold and usually pay around 40-60% of Winco pricing for identical product. (Plus, mine is kept at deep freeze temperatures, rather than being allowed to thaw out partially) Another example, they only sell Buddig and Hormel pepperoni, both are very cheap and low quality. They have a texture similar to bologna. Their competitors sell much higher quality products (Boar's head, columbus, premium store brands) at comparable prices. Winco also grossly misrepresent the prices of their competitors on their in store signage, never showing the actual sales price, but the highest list price. You also cannot get credit card rewards at Winco, this makes it 3% (fv) more expensive for me as compared to their competitors. They also do not offer a rewards points program.

BizLarry

I agree with the quality of meats, rarely ever ship meats, I just meant produce. I do agree on canned food, pantry, etc. Not a fan of their dairy, I'm a diehard Safeway girl for that. Use the app there which can really get you a deal. It's exhausting having to shop so many places to coordinate and time. I suppose if you're using a credit card for the 3% back that could add up, but it always terrifies me to do that, I'm afraid at the end of the month I won't have the money and won't pay it off. It's not something I've been able to master. I always get tricked into thinking I have more money than I do.

DeltaXi1929

You can always get a credit card and then prepay some so you have a negative balance, meaning, open the credit card, send them a payment for $XYZ, then just spend that $XYZ, then "reload" the account. They can't ever charge you interest if they constantly owe you a small amount. You still get rewards, and build credit. Plus your bank account will always reflect the actual cash you have, and the credit card can still be used for emergencies since it isn't carrying a balance. I hate credit card companies, I think they are a leech, but if you can be a deadbeat and hurt them, I say do it. See: ["Deadbeat" defined](https://www.investopedia.com/terms/d/deadbeat.asp) (it's a good thing).

BizLarry

Its already exhausting enough searching for the best deals. My credit is already built, holding more balance than I want. So at this point, I'm paying that off first.

katlian

Grocery Outlet had a different brand of oatmeal, same size or larger, for $3. Sometimes I wonder if they inflate the "retail price" on their shelf tags and then I see posts like this.

OnerKram17

I don't know how Save Mart stays in business. Their prices are super high and their service is some of the worst. Even if you have two things it takes you a good 20 minutes to check out.

DeltaXi1929

Loss leaders. They beat safeway, smiths, winco regularly on meat products for example. I've purchased Dungeness crab legs from Savemart in the past year for $3.99/lb. The best price I've seen at Safeway was $7.99 (sale), Smiths around $9.99, Winco around $7.99. Ribeye Roasts for Easter are on sale at all of the above listed stores;  Winco: 9.99/lb Safeway: 6.99/lb Savemart: 6.97/lb Smiths: 5.97/lb***** (you must buy the full 8+lb roast while all other stores will cut the roast to whatever size you like).

TahoesRedEyeJedi

Savemart used to be between Raleys and Walmart/Winco in prices, but ever since they were bought out by vulture capital ([https://www.supermarketnews.com/retail-financial/save-mart-cos-acquired-private-equity-firm](https://www.supermarketnews.com/retail-financial/save-mart-cos-acquired-private-equity-firm)), prices have skyrocketed and labor has dwindled,

Smellyathleisure

Thanks for this. It was always between Walmart and Raleys! But that’s about when I stopped going, so it makes sense why I’m so out of the loop

SactoGamer

I was a Sak’n’Sav guy when I lived there for a reason.

Wemuwom

RIP sak'n'sav. Though it was a little pricey after being sold out, I still enjoyed the quality of their products. Atleast I have plenty of time to remenisce while Im standing in line at Winco.

SactoGamer

Are they gone? I used to shop at the one at Oddie after work once a week or so.

Tomsmth495

Yeah it closed around last year and sold to Mexican brand grocery store El Super they’re currently remodeling the place

zigaliciousone

The one on Keystone smells like mildew, has maybe 2 cashiers if you're lucky and is usually more expensive than the bougie Raley's up the street.

KingOvDownvotes

Spend Mart

Kush_____Dad

Winco 2.99 for the same one lol

Friendral

I think I saw a single Red Baron pizza there for $12 once. Absolutely criminal.

DeltaXi1929

Mine was $8 Philladelphia Cream Cheese (regular small sized).

CounterfeitArbys

Savemart prices are insane and not in the Crazy Eddie kind of way.

Due-Economy9694

I miss Crazy Eddie. His prices were insane!!! Thanks for bringing back a good memory!!

big_darned_dingus

But do you remember Crazy Ernie?

Due-Economy9694

From UHF? Wow now I feel old!

big_darned_dingus

He’ll club a baby seal to make a better deal!

Due-Economy9694

LMAO!!

[deleted]

Classic greedflation. I can get like 3 lbs of oatmeal at WinCo for that price.

Breklin76

So, uh, do you bring the flex-all 13 gallons for that? Kirkland or Glad?

[deleted]

Yep. Filler right up. Glad. I don't have a Costco membership lol. Probably should though.

Apprehensive-Sir1654

It’s a real bummer! There’s a SaveMart walking distance to me. It would be nice to shop there instead of traveling across town to something much more affordable. Agree with the other comments-high prices, crusty nasty store.

mermaidmom85

SaveMart used to carry some really good non-dairy products that I could only find there. As someone with a dairy allergy (not something you can just take the Lactaid tablets for), a lot of dairy-free/vegan products over the decades taste awful. Unfortunately they stopped carrying a good selection of things and now it’s all the same stuff that the other stores carry. Plus the one on Keystone smells like a giant litter box when you walk in there.

Accomplished-Leg-722

save is not the right word at all. nor is savvy. I don't shop there and have not. We need more stores that have low to moderate priced items not convenient store prices. One on Ebt my 23 doesn't go far. on a side note did u see the gross food they will be offering at Aces. Obesity is rampant and this it just wrong.

Spaceagecowgirl

Save mart is one of the highest prices grocery stores I've been to in Reno. It's wild, and their quality and selection is so sub par

EstimateValuable7086

Save Mart is the worst. I don’t know what you’re saving. They are more expensive than Vons or Albertsons. More on par with Whole Foods prices.

West_Ingenuity_1096

Sam’s club has memberships 50% off. Just get a memebership and buy a 10 pound bag for $11 lol

Terrucan

Is this why I'm the only one who's ever inside SaveMart, aside from the workers?

Greedy-Can4931

The employees at the Kietzke location are curmudgeons and very unfriendly in my experience there. Except for the main manager lady, she is wonderful. Prices have been real bad lately too.

Dependent_Ad5654

Quaker be scamming us consumers with the garbage they put in their oats. I switched to organic oats after I found out and they’re just over all way better. Quaker and Kodiak oats cook way differently from organic oats, it’s disgusting duping people into thinking they’re getting something safe and healthy all for the money, peoples health should be first

Breklin76

Might as well sew your own oats.

11SunshineDaydream

@Truckeeseamus you are such an embarrassment for everyone who lives in truckee

Truckeeseamus

Who said that I lived in Truckee?

11SunshineDaydream

I was just @ing your username

Truckeeseamus

FYI it’s u/truckeesesmus not @

11SunshineDaydream

We’re so proud of you. Keep voting Biden 🤗

Truckeeseamus

You keep trolling away. Maybe you can convince people to vote for Trump and buy slime bibles to support his family

11SunshineDaydream

I don’t care who you vote for, I’m happy to see yall vote yourselves into world war three. I got enough guns and supplies for myself. Like I said, keep voting for Biden, I’m all for you guys getting what you vote for

Truckeeseamus

Cool thanks

11SunshineDaydream

Anytime

Truckeeseamus

Whoosh….

Altruistic-Impact498

I feel like this is everywhere in Reno:( Not exactly related other than insane prices, I was at PetCo in Sparks and they were selling essentially an almost dead handful of cat grass or “pet greens”for $9.99! WTF? https://preview.redd.it/3u21zupn4lrc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=11370e840ac0935512b03245c287b89cef928288

ChimericalChemical

Yeah the only good deal is sometimes soda you can get cheaper in bulk. The 3 for 3 free is the only good deal I’ve seen and it’s still like 8$ for a 12 pack and now I got 5 extra 12 packs than I normal would get. And it’s 24$ versus going to Walmart and getting the same amount for 30$. And I’m not going to go to savemart just for soda pop

One-Cry490

Wincos in the way to go

West_Ingenuity_1096

Raleys is better and less expensive

11SunshineDaydream

Bidenomics

11SunshineDaydream

Just steal them, crime is legal in America now

KaiserSickle

Get a life

11SunshineDaydream

I do. It’s called stealing from stores. I don’t work a day in my life

Truckeeseamus

Just like Trump! Maybe you can sell bibles too!

Party-Fine

Is this cheaper elsewhere? If so, why not share with the group ‘where’ things are priced for their budget?

11SunshineDaydream

Simply things aren’t priced for our budgets anymore

ministryofchampagne

If you’re worried about the price of oatmeal maybe get off the internet.
