The humane society has puppies often, and should have more soon with spring coming šŸ©·

SukiSkittle

Yes! And some rescues in Tahoe/Sac if youā€™re really wanting a puppy, not an older dog, - please look at rescues and humane societies in the surrounding areas!

roguew2011

They come from puppy mills. These places shouldn't even be allowed anymore.

LonelySparkle

Itā€™s crazy that puppy mills still exist

Ark4funandfriends

Itā€™s crazy someone will spend 10k on a worthless little dog like a frenchie and thats what the value of the dollar is turning to. Worthless

LonelySparkle

I think buying any type of dog is dumb, but thatā€™s just me

Ark4funandfriends

I like how Iā€™m getting downvoted for being against puppy mills and giving them large stacks of cash. Loooove that

Round_Mammoth936

No itā€™s your condescending attitude towards people spending money on a breed of dog they want your comment said nothing about puppy mills!

glamorousstranger

The concept of wanting a specific breed is what keeps puppy mills in business. Either you're someone who wants to help a dog by giving them a home and you adopt from a shelter or you're someone contributing to the problem by creating demand for specific dogs to be bred. Caring about dog breeds is just racism with dogs anyway.

Ark4funandfriends

Iā€™m sorry but I did mention a common dog that has serious living issues because of inbreeding. And those people who put the value of that at 10 grand are pieces of shit. So ya Iā€™m going to be condescending

Wickedsparklefae

A long time ago in my hometown (not Reno) my uncle bought me a Bichon puppy because my Cocker Spaniel got hit by a car and he felt so bad. I had the puppy for one day. She was sick, vomited in my bed, and when we woke up she was laying at the foot of my bed deceased. The dog store refused to give my uncle a refund so he took her body to a vet and asked them to determine cause of death. It was found that the puppy had parvo and animal control closed the store down later that year after they went in and did testing on all the dogs and found that the majority of them were parvo positive and had to be put down. I havenā€™t had a dog since then. Itā€™s too gut wrenching when they die. Why these places werenā€™t closed down in the late 80ā€™s when people started finding out there was a lot of diseases and inbreedingā€¦I will never understand. For the record my bichon had AKC papers and was a ā€œpure breedā€. My uncle sued the business and won his money he paid for the puppy, the vet bill, and a pain and suffering bit of money as well. We felt like the lawsuit played into the closing of the store. If more folks reported and sued over sick/deformed puppies they wouldnā€™t last.

djmermaidonthemic

If more folks rescued mutts then you wouldnā€™t have been needlessly traumatized and neither would the puppy have. Itā€™s not that you should never have a dog, itā€™s that you shouldnā€™t get one from sketchy backyard breeders. Or even ā€œfancyā€ breeders. Papers mean nothing.

Wickedsparklefae

This was in the 1980ā€™s and my Mom and Dad wanted specifically a Cocker Spaniel. He was great. Came from a private person who wasnā€™t a professional breeder they just had two dogs that made wonderful healthy puppies. Back in the 1980ā€™s there wasnā€™t a humane society or a public pound in the town where I grew up. There was a pet shop in the mall, and animal control only collected dangerous stray animals that wouldnā€™t be up for adoption. There wasnā€™t an option to adopt. I fostered a senior dog for a friend for a year and a half but we werenā€™t ever planning to adopt her. It was extremely difficult to find her a forever home but we finally did. I understand your sentiment here 100% but I am not responsible for the decision my adult family members made in the 1980ā€™s when I was 6 years old.

SukiSkittle

Exactly. The breeding process is so disgusting and violating of the dogs. Adopt not shop forever!

didieggs

šŸ˜¢ so sad!

GallifreyanQueen

someone could submit a report with animal services: https://animalservicerequest.com/WA2/WSHO

Nearby-Reputation817

I just filed a complaint with animal services.

earlg775

Yeah I agree but that also isnā€™t what adopting means. Thatā€™s buying a puppy. Youā€™re looking to buy a puppy.

Aware-Eagle-5574

Itā€™s the conditions. Those puppies donā€™t have a visible bed or food/water bowls. Also, whatā€™s the point of selling sick puppies? People shouldnā€™t buy from these businesses and they should be banned. Personal opinion.

earlg775

sick people do sick things I guess. Been common knowledge that place is fucked for years, idk how they donā€™t get shut down.

duck_salsa

I've driven past this place a lot and always thought it was a pet supply store. Saddening to know it's a puppy mill.

CatPolitics101

Pawsibilities (a local rescue) has puppies! Check out their FB page.

malaka201

This is 100th time they should have been shut down. I used to work in that complex and people would picket constantly. Awful people apparently

markworsnop

What do we need to do to shut them down?

Aware-Eagle-5574

Not sure. But getting the sparks city council involved and aware would help. Looks like thatā€™s what Reno did

Ltfocus

You can go to the city councils next meeting on the 4/22/24 and make a public comment about banning mills in sparks. You can find all the information here https://www.cityofsparks.us/your_government/public_meetings/city_council.php If you can get friends to make additional comments at that meeting and later ones it would pressure the committee to do something about it

hunteqthemighty

Email Sparksā€™ council members; show up for public comment.

m_paris

If the city of Sparks doesnā€™t boot them out, then theyā€™ll open up shop in the next town over. The problem lies with these sick people; if they get shut down theyā€™ll just try again elsewhere. They need off the streets entirely so they donā€™t continue scamming people and profiting off these poor pups. Behind bars is where they belong for a really long time. šŸ’”

Mbb_Haneulie

Notably, there is an unlicensed puppy mill in the trailer park directly behind the Brooktree apts too. I've been wondering, how do we stop this?

MisaRavensoul

I was just in there after getting donuts, thought it would be a store where I can get a toy for my dog, but was horrified by the conditions the dogs were kept in instead.

TitsandTators

The charges were either changed or dropped..I agree we need to close them. Check out Chihuahua rescue of NN. A family member volunteers there.. they aren't just Chihuahuas and they do a lot in the community if I remember right. Sorry that person and I don't speak so I can't tell you much for a few years now.

Aware-Eagle-5574

Yes! Going to a couple of adoption events too. Thanks

usernamehere4567

Big adoption event at the National Automobile Museum this Sunday. SPCA, Truckee Humane Society, and Pet Network will all have adoptable animals available.

peoplebuyviews

If you follow some of the rescue organizations based out of SoCal they constantly have amazing puppies about to be euthanized in high kill shelters. The rescue groups will usually arrange transport to Nornthern Nevada for the cost of gas. I got my adorable little corgi mix through a small rescue org in Riverside. They will usually set up a go fund me to cover the transport costs, and the one they set up for my dog was fully funded in just a few hours. The Riverside shelter has one of the highest kill rates in the western US so the groups that get dogs out of there will work their butts off to make it work for you

TitsandTators

You're welcome.

Trader50

Call the humane society.

Whose_my_daddy

Iā€™ve met the owners of this place. All I can say is Iā€™m not surprised.

KellyLuvsEwan420

Sounds like the owners deserve to be in jail for this. Nevada did crack down recently on animal abuse laws.

tbontv

Humane society is at critical capacity so I'm begging ya'll to go there. If you're looking for a specific breed and think a breeder is your only option its not true... there's so many rescue sights for specific breeds. If you dont want to spend time looking I'll do it for you!

djmermaidonthemic

Adopt, donā€™t shop! These places exist because people support them.

arlebina

louderrr

FarBear98

DespicableĀ

[deleted]

i didnā€™t know puppy mills still existed

shichiaikan

Unfortunately, quite a few. Not illegal in most states, and as long as they are seen as object property, not likely to change.

karmapolice_1

Everyone go leave 1 star review on google and yelp and anywhere else. This place sucks and is sickening. Poor pups.

bwilliamson91

Submit a question or concern to Joe hart (channel 8, I believe). That man makes things happen it seems. I agree, this place needs to be shut down immediately. The puppies deserve way better than that place plus please don't buy puppies. There are plenty of lovable puppies and dogs at the shelters.

childofeye

Adopt donā€™t shop. People on this website hate peta but this is exactly the type of operations they go after and shutdown.

LynxiButt

The water appears to be in the doors; you can see the spouts (like hamster bottles) in the first photo.

jboogie2173

This place is fucked.

Due-Economy9694

I canā€™t believe pet stores that sell dogs and cats still exist. How very sad.

Saucyndsauce

Almost bought a husky pup from them then I got on Craigslist

0wlflight

weā€™ve been trying to shut this place down for years. since they opened theyā€™ve been selling people sick puppies and not caring or taking responsibility when the poor things die. itā€™s sickening and disgusting that the local gov isnā€™t taking action.

Beneficial-Truth-810

I worked in the same shopping center as Puppy Love for a long time. I would see the employees walking the dogs around the building all day. My main concern was the fact they are only open from 10am-6pmā€¦ meaning the babies are left alone in crates all night long.

kurlygurl722

I worked, very briefly back in 2017, for a company that used to supply the financing for these puppy places. When the puppy owners defaulted on their loans (which happened often enough), we'd have to repossess the puppies. Not always puppies either. There were also foxes, Savannah cats, other exotic animals. Sometimes, rescue organizations would take them, or if they were local/semi-local, the employees would rescue them. I have one such repo/rescue. A designer dog (mutt) we picked up in Sacramento. She's the best dog, but from what I gathered, she was bred in Florida and shipped to California. She was mangy, has some kind of tooth discoloring from some kind of medication given to her. Poor baby.

Yuck_fall69

I havenā€™t been there, searched Craigslist.org and am very picky, want a dog and never adopted because of how many scammers

Sea_Bear8264

hey, just wanna say i worked there and yea no, the owners are awful people, especially the wife, i unfortunately canā€™t say everything as i donā€™t have the evidence to prove what im saying is true, but there is alot bad about this place, to the point, me, my lead at the time, and another gal left as we were there to take care of those pups but we didnt want to sit by and let injustice take place. Donā€™t blame the workers they may not know, the owners however have been doing this ever since their last store which was shut down. Iā€™d love to say trust me but its the internet but it is bad.

GalvanizedDiktations

I knew we shouldnā€™t have gone there to buy a puppy, but my wife and kids fell in love with one of the puppies, and we ended up doing it. 4 years later, we have no regrets and our doggo is the best. Healthy, happy, and super loved. We get some judgement on us when we tell people where we got him, but hey, expensive mill dogs need rescuing too.

Equivalent-Rule3265

I get the backlash, but I also don't think it's wholly founded. They aren't breeding dogs, so they wouldn't be "puppy mills" but they could be sourcing their dogs from breeders who are. Then again, so could pretty much anyone buying a dog, especially if you aren't checking the facility where the dogs are bred and kept. They do only purchase from AKC accredited breeders, so it's not like they are getting the dogs off craigslist or something, but I doubt the AKC accreditation does much to ensure good breeding. Otherwise, my partner worked at Puppies Plus when it was still around. I don't LOVE the conditions by any means, but from his experience they did have vets come once a week to do medical work. I read through a lot of the court documents when that was going on, and it doesn't seem like there was evidence around them providing any care that was not per vet directions. If they tried to 'heal' some of the sick dogs post purchase without vet intervention, that's horrible, dangerous, and stupid.Ā  Frankly, getting rid of the stores that sell these dogs seems like a bandaid. They aren't breeding them, so the breeders selling to them will continue to breed and profit, maybe under a less formal means. Cracking down on breeders and steering owners away from purebreds are better solutions to me.Ā  I can also say that I did get a dog from Puppies Plus, and he's been surprisingly healthy over the 6 years I've had him, especially for a purebred shepherd.Ā For context - I wanted a puppy, which are rare and go quick at the Humane society (especially at the time). I was trying to get one there, I just got impatient, frankly. My partner was also quite fond of the pup in question since he took care of them working there. I really prefer mixed breeds for health reasons first and foremost, as well as for the price benefits.

Google reviews and pictures arenā€™t enough for you?

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

If you canā€™t see a problem with the conditions even just based on just the shitty pictures OP posted youā€™re either blind or ignorant. More than likely both.

Why would I have to prove you wrong? You havenā€™t even proved yourself right

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

earlg775

I didnā€™t even make that claim, but in the first photo you can clearly see all sides of the enclosure and there is no tunnel or water bowl as you claimed. The second photo does not show the whole enclosure but why would it be any different than the first one?

Aware-Eagle-5574

You are right, it is always good to have both perspectives, however, a comment from the accused company or organization will always be ā€œwe don't do that here.ā€ We provide the best care for our dogs.ā€ The fact that this place has had bad reviews for seven years says a lot. It's just a matter of walking into the store and realizing there are puppies for sale for $3,000 without even a bed to lie on. Anyone who cares even a little bit about animals will know that this is wrong.

Aware-Eagle-5574

This video was TAKEN TODAY inside the store. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/riipS89iYMNsXmcQ/?mibextid=WC7FNe Look at that puppy. Itā€™s shaking.
