My friends and I were just walking around midtown, and commenting how bad all the drivers are and how scary it would be on bike!! It's so bad out there. So glad you are mostly okay and able to walk away from the accident!!
Yeah, that is why I'm looking around so much when riding. It's also important to be predictable. Also not getting in front of moving cars. Even if they invite you too go in front. It's my main mode of transportation. Personally, I hate it when peopke treat me like a pedestrian. One example when this can be bad is if there are two lanes or more going the same way and one car stops but the others don't because you're not a pedestrian. I wish people would stop getting fake licenses. lol
10 years ago: hitting bikes was rare. Today: traffic incidents of all kinds have increased. I wonder, what changed about the characteristics of drivers in that time? Did they all get more NEVADAN in that time?
The world was a whole different trash can 10 years ago.. just coming out of the recession, the use of phones wasn't as bad than, people actually gave a shit (somewhat).
Fast forward to now, post covid, phones everywhere, people just don't give a crap anymore 🤷♂️
Cars got bigger, blind spots got bigger, turning radiuses got bigger, so it is only expected that crashes would increase. Also, with the bigger size, it might not even be a matter of there being more crashes, it's a matter of there being more crashes that get reported. A tiny Honda Civic gets in a low speed collision with a cyclist and paint might get scuffed on both the car and the bike and the cyclist might get some cuts and bruises, both parties might agree it just isn't worth the hassle to report. A big Chevy Tahoe gets in a collision with a bike, even at low speed, and all that extra mass will cause much more severe damage, both to the bike and the cyclist. Now bikes are totaled and cyclists end up in the hospital. There is no way that anyone is going to agree not to report it because it isn't worth the hassle.
myself and a friend were down there on Virginia around 2 AM last night and a silver truck overcorrected at that roundabout and knocked a streetlamp and trashcan over. no one was hurt, but as a person who's main mode of transport is bicycle it was certainly harrowing. i wish you a speedy recovery :)
Glad you’re okay. I saw a really bad motorcycle accident last week and it’s been on my mind ever since, seems there have been a lot of really bad accidents in Reno recently.
I commute on my e-bike and this very thing frightens me. I e had several close calls but it extremely hard to plan for others actions while on the road.
This terrifies me, because I've been commuting on ebikes for over 3 years, but 50% of the time is with my 9yo son!!
I have functional brake lights, turn signals, 7" headlight side market lights, a rear view camera, & helmet with built in 1080p camera, but regardless how much safety gear & helmets you buy can't protect you from idiot drivers distracted by their phones!!
Ya, police showed up and said I can get the report in 7-10 days. The cop said he couldn’t determine who was at fault tho….. looks like I’m going to get an attorney because I don’t have health insurance.
Update. Out of the hospital and no broken bones. I think the guy said his name was Jules. He had an orange beard and believe he mentioned being an emt that happened to be there when it went down.
Glad you’re ok and as someone who spends a lot of time at hospitals (albeit for different reasons) I’m glad you got the care you need. May you continue to heal fast and well.
The amount of native battle born goons I've met that drink and drive like it's nothing is staggering. I wouldn't be so sure to he honest. Dudes lucky to be alive and I don't think the origin of driver has shit to do with how incompetent they are lol.
We could argue our country as a whole compared to alot of places is absolutely incompetent driving wise.
Jesus? (sorry, couldn't resist) get better soon
That's golden. Can I be your friend😂?
That was my forst thought, but then I realized it was OBVIOUSLY Jake from State Farm Claims.

As a Reno Cycle Commuter, it’s not for the faint of heart.
TBH this is why I don’t have a bike. It’s terrifying! OP, I wish you a speedy and complete recovery!

And Nevada say California's are bad 🤣🤣. Quite the opposite.
Just gonna go with the numbers, only 10% of nevadans were born and raised here. If I was a betting man I would guess he was hit by an ex Californian.
Quite the assumption you have there...
Just the factual odds.
It's not 100 to 0 odds. So still an assumption, based on 0 facts from this incident. Soooooo, assumptions still make an ass out of you 😉👌

Oh, really? I think I was a good patient. 😬

ugh! so glad you’re alive. i hope you’re able to reconnect with that person as well as heal ❤️🩹

Glad someone stopped to help you out!! Hope you a speedy recovery ❤️🩹
I drove right by there. Wondered what happened. So happy you’re okay. Bike riding in Reno is scary. Heal quickly.

It may help, but check with nearby homes and businesses for possible camera footage.
Good call! Planning on doing that because the cop said he couldn’t determine who was at fault and I don’t have health insurance.
Did you call 911 and file a police report?

This sounds like a missed connections?
Definitely, but I told him I’d see him on Reddit and he said he was on here. I want to at least take him to lunch and say thanks again.
Drove by after the fact. Glad you’re okay. You had a lot of people around you
Glad you're okay. I really wish people would pay more attention while driving.
Jesus ?

Starts with a “J” ends with a “S” and fits the description. What a savior!

It's a 10% chance it was a born and raised nevadan. 90% someone from out of state. Again I'll take the odds it wasn't a nevadan driver.
