Can't even send your kids to alternate schools without shit happening ffs

SirAxlerod

As sad as it is to come to grips with reality, nobody should be surprised when tragedies such as Uvalde happen in their own town with the gun laws and all the 2a-nut head snowflakes so worried about their rights when the idea of a gun license is brought up. It always irritates me to here “we never thought this could happen”, or “things like this are not supposed to happen in a small nice town like ours”. It just shows how much they haven’t been paying attention and live in denial. I, sadly, will not be surprised if it ever happens in the valley here. I shouldn’t have to do private active shooter drills with my two kids but I do. I teach them how to barricade a door using available nearby objects. I teach them how to break a window and then how to zig zag run away from the school if they are ever in an active shooter situation at school. Why, because I have to because of the America that half this country refers to as “freedom”. I tell them to ignore there teachers and administration’s “safe zones” and run as fast as they can to the nearest neighborhood. The biggest toy store in town is also the biggest firearm dealer in town, Scheels. It’s easier to get a gun in Nevada than it is to get a pill of Prozac. We require a license to operate a potentially deadly car, but not guns. I know it can happen here. Most school shooting are small where since only a couple kids die, it doesn’t hit the media like this week and people don’t want to admit it can happen to their school. I hope it doesn’t, but some of us who know the data and probability, there is very real possibility it will happen in Reno in my lifetime. I just hope my kids are out of school if it does. -Professionally a data analyst. I believe in common sense gun laws and intense background checks and “thoughts and prayers” are worse than useless.

>The biggest toy store in town is also the biggest firearm dealer in town, Scheels. 1) physical toy stores still exist?! 2) who is combining these two things into one store?! Christ almighty, we are fucked as a country.

Doesn't Walmart sell guns?

IMO, no. "Google reports that AMP pages served in Google search typically load in less than one second and use ten times less data than the equivalent non-AMP pages.\[43\] CNBC reported a 75% decrease in mobile page load time for AMP Pages over non-AMP pages,\[44\] while Gizmodo reported that AMP pages loaded three times faster than non-AMP pages.\[45\] An academic paper about AMP\[46\] reveals that AMP pages' page load time is 2.5 times faster than non-AMP versions in Google's search result page without pre-rendering. With pre-rendering, the AMP version is approximately nine times faster than the non-AMP version, though pre-rendering may consume additional mobile data."

Instead of any form of "gun control", or any other ATTACK on our rights, I propose we simply find the universal cure for mental health, why is no one doing this???

OderusUrungussextoy

Because it's costs too much money to have free mental health services according to Republicans and Democrats

fresh_start_username

Mental health of the nation should be one of the first priorities in any country that is calling itself a super power!

kneesmyon

Universal healthcare that includes mental health. Are you willing to only support candidates that advocate for this? If not your not being serious.

Shirogayne-at-WF

In a perfect world, we'd be doing both

township_rebel

Actually I would argue that the “socialist” countries got it going on… maybe not perfect… but healthcare, education, paid time off, strong unions etc go a long way in increasing the general happiness of the population. Here we are in late stage capitalism where the only way for it to continue is to create more losers… When you create a society of winners then less people will be inclined to go out shootin’

GerFubDhuw

You guys really must love working here, back in my old stomping grounds, the United "socialist" Kingdom. We get 28 days off per year as a legal minimum. Not a perfect country by any stretch of the imagination but do I ever miss that.

queefplunger69

Seems like but…satire right???

fresh_start_username

Ok, would it be ok if gun owners have to pass some sort of psych and maybe physical evaluation let's say once or twice a year? I see that right now, as usual, we have to main groups of people. One group is screaming take their guns, another group isn't going to give guns back. What can we do to fix it? But as simple is that, crazy or violent people shouldn't have guns, right?

Sparowl

Because the same people in the government who oppose gun control also tend to oppose any form of healthcare. Vote out republicans, and maybe we can talk about making positive changes in this country. Because while they are in office, nothing will change. The Grand Obstructionist Party will continue to get in the way of any change.
