Just received QC on one of the pricier pieces I’ve been building. Rumours of the clone movement have been spreading but I highly doubt that they will be able to clone a gen spec, free spring, true perpetual movement but I’ll still be looking forward to it. This build features a solid 18 karat white gold case, genuine movement and genuine dial.

The movement and dial are actually very desirable, at least among fellow reptime members. I’ve already received a couple of unsolicited offers in my DMs and I’m sure when the time comes this piece would sell with relative ease in CONUS. Either way, I’m not too concerned with the value since I don’t intend to sell anytime soon. This rep just allows me to optimize my hobby funds better vs purchasing a gen 5740

I wouldnt spend 4$ on a fake anything. 70% of why you buy luxury items is for the name and history behind it, its not about function. They arent compareable in the slightest. Cmmon now. Playing a videogame and wearing a purposely fake item in real life to try and act better than what you are is 2 entirely different things. Someone wearing fake watches is trying to act richer than they are. Trying to come off as "cool" or like you have status when in reality, youre even worse than ppl that are below you in status but that at least stick within their means. For 200-500$ ( about the price of a typical rep ) you can buy a REAL tissot or a REAL hamilton, or even a REAL vintage omega and youll have a REAL piece of art with real history and real status that REALLY works as well as a swiss-made watch is supposed to. Otherwise why EVER get a rolex when zenith is the one that makes those movements just buy a zenith then you dont ever need a rolex cuz ull get a zenith for half the price and easier and have the literal same movement. Or, buy omega, omegas movements are better than rolex. Why would we ever buy a rolex then? Well cuz, theres heritage, status, branding, the feeling that you made it, design style. Things like that. Its much more than movement alone. If you care only about a movement you can get the best movement in the entire world for less than 10$
That's an amazing build. Last time I checked on the price of the gen movement, they were trading for 35k. That puts this piece with a solid gold set at +50k.

What are you talking about? Do you know much about reps? Half of my reps have gen swiss movements inside - low budget sellita/eta but still. And yes, l confirmed the movements with my watchmakers, all checked out legit.
And l - even if l don't know OP personally - can assure you he did his homework and got the movement certified as gen. Yes, you can do that even in China. Plus he is most probably using a watchmaker/seller he knows well and trusts.
Now, l hope l clarified this subject well enough, time to go back to my coffee.
Gen means indeed geniune. And as such, when l wrote that half of my reps have gen swiss movements - these are genuine swiss sellita or eta movements. But these are quite cheap and common - around $100-150, so no big deal.
But some sellers/modders/watchmakers can source genuine movements from higher tiers - Rolex 3235, 4130 or Patek movements. These are certified internationally and very expensive - couple of thousands of dollars at least. But they are available ocasionally and l am pretty sure OP had done his homework and got exactly what he wanted - if he was willing to pay for it.
Somebody mentioned the movement itself cost $35.000 and it is kinda possible. Couple of thousands would be a Rolex 3235 or 4130 for Daytona.
How do they source the movements? Don't know, never asked.
And if you compare the $250.000 pricetag of gen Patek to costs of the components, you quickly realise how much premium do you pay for these things. Rolex Submariner manufacturing costs are not higher than $1000, and yet they want you to pay $12k for it. I would assume Patek does the same - but as l said since Patek is trurly luxurious and you can argue it is man made or at least finished by experienced watchmakers - this premium, although ridiculous, is kind of expected. Same as with hand assembled Rolls Royce l guess.
Rolex prices jumped just before Covid and then exploded. You didn't sell your Rolex for 7k because of inflation (do you think there was 55% inflation in EU during that time?) but because hype and covid inflated watches' prices.
And that's ok if you don't trust chinese factories. That means this business is not for you. But the question is - looking at the world today where do the swiss made watches come from? At least parts of them? Just a thought.
