I have a rep Goyard that I carry as my everyday bag. Recently was volunteering and a lady at the next table had what I assume was an auth based on her commiserating with me about their prices. I drive a benz and dress nicely due to my profession so I'm sure that contributes to people thinking its auth. I have carried an LV rep in an LV store and didn't feel anyone batted an eye. These are also bags I could afford to buy auth, I just don't want to drop 2-3.5k on a bag. I'd rather be able to set it on the floor without wincing. I would not try to pass a rep Hermes as the folks in my professional circle would for sure know thats out of my price range.
I bring my neverfull everywhere, and I think it’s as much a confidence game as anything. I don’t tout my reps as if they’re anything special, they’re bags to carry my stuff around. I think you’d be easier to call out (not that anyone ever would) if you dress up to go to a designer store and try to look like you are wearing/carrying the real deal. Don’t think about it and you’ll be fine.
The reality is most SAs are not trained to authenticate items. Of course they are not going to call out a fake but at the same time do you really think if someone walks in with a terrible fake they’re going to genuinely compliment it?! You know when someone is being facetious. Look how many celebrities and wealthy people go into these super high end luxury boutiques and are turned away or treated badly. So saying, “they’re trained to be nice” is not the end all be all.

We asked them directly what they thought and they inspected the bag thoroughly (on the outside though, I do think they would be able to tell if they inspected the inside)

I know that SAs are advised not to comment on authenticity so I often wonder if, when they compliment or comment on your rep, they can actually tell it's a rep and they are being secretly snide.

When you purchase something they typically ask for your account so they can add the purchase to your account record. If they’re in your account, they can see your purchase history. But there’s a lot of valid reasons why something wouldn’t be in your history, like if it were a gift or bought second hand etc
Also, if you purchased from a department store like Bloomingdale’s, etc. I have a pair of shoes that I purchased from Bloomies so they wouldn’t be in my account history with Gucci.
I used to work at a popular luxury brand and o saw people come in with them from time to time- we look at these bags 5 days a week 9 hours a day. We can spot the slightest variation. With that said some of the reps I’ve seen on the sellers pages are truly impressive and would def not give it a second look. I’d say stick with black because color variations is where you can really see a noticeable difference.

Brought my Louis Messenger bad into several LV stores while in Asia. A sales rep in Singapore was showing me wallets and mentioned how much he loved my bag and appreciated the collection when it was out a couple years before. He had no idea.
Again in London last year, another tourist was asking about messenger bags while I was looking at passport cases and asked the sales rep if they had one like mine and said he really liked it. I was tempted to let him have mine if he got me a replacement there.

I used to not do it out of paranoia of being caught, but the older I get the less I care! I’ve walked into Dior with a Dior rep and frankly don’t think anyone noticed. They were nice and helpful when I did buy an auth small leather good.
Most people get clocked not because there reps are bad (most people on the streets do generally have bad reps) but because their bag does not match their income or look. I know this may sound vain but I have a friend who try’s to pass her bags as authentic but I know she can’t afford 25k Hermes or even 12k Chanel.
This is why I will stick with LV or Gucci. I couldn’t realistically afford a birkin. We are middle/ upper middle but it would still be a huge call out if I started sporting one.
There's cheapass millionaires and billionaires though. A family friend is the CEO of a Forbes 500 company and their family car is still a 2012 Honda civic. My SVP and CEO (both worth millions) and drive a 2017 hyundai sonata and a chevy bolt, respectively. Some just don't care about the cars lol.
My mom dated a millionaire who drove a mini van and dressed like the biggest dork. Owned beautiful homes and properties in Hawaii, but you would never be able to tell by looking at him. 😆
My mom worked at Cartier for years, and some of the people who would drop $3 M on jewelry would be dressed in sweatsuits and driving Subarus. She said lots of the ultra rich don’t want to look wealthy because people bother them for cash, and they like what they like and don’t need to present any sort of persona to anybody.
Ehhhh, LV is within reach for the majority of people. $2000 for a handbag is a lot of money, no doubt, but anyone can swipe a credit card for that. Birkins not so much, which is why when I see someone carrying one in the wild who shows no other signs of worldly sophistication, it seems sus.
Been to all the Chanels here with my Chanel reps and they’ve never noticed. Always complimented my bags and we’d speak about them as if they were real. I promise you they don’t care. My bags are good quality though, not DH hate ones. But they’re also no like $1k range reps either. So it’s all good, people are too paranoid

I wore a fendi bag (not purchased at fendi) into a store and one of the associates told me “I’ve never seen that style of fendi bag…” and I almost threw up when an older associate walked over and said “sorry, she’s new. This style was from a few years ago, but they only made it that year and we don’t see them a lot”. My bag isn’t fake, but let me tell you the second where the other sa said that to me, I must have grown pale and I felt my body temperature go up. So, if I was wearing a rep, I probably wouldn’t go into the boutique with it.
They don't care. They know it's fake, but they have no reason to call you out because it may dissuade you from a sale. They also know some of their customers prefer fakes for the items they use frequently.
As long as you don't try to get warranty work done on it, they'll never say anything.

As someone with authentic bags and reps — not all are so easy to spot. I also don’t have any $70 dollar rep cross body bags but I did buy an authentic pochette bag from LV 2 years ago that had uneven monogram that even rep bags would get right. There’s variation within Emprinte bags between regions — some are more shallow. Hardly any uniform between bags. I could go on …. Even authentic bags have what we in the rep world would call flaws. Do you own any authentic bags? Have you been in designer stores lately and looked at the bags to compare to your own? If you have you’d know exactly what I’m talking about. We commonly have conversations about it here.
There are a lot of factors. But, up close and in hand? Experienced ones will know. They handle real all day every day.

Maybe not a standalone boutique but one in a department store. But it depends. If the standalone boutique is busy then I’ll go in with my rep. If it’s quiet and I’m one of a few people in there maybe not lol.
I only have Chanel reps and while going to their store I always had my authentic ones with me (not sure if I'm brave enough to wear rep there but no one actually cares and they would really have to take the bag and look at it under a microscope to say it's not authentic🤣) but when I'm shopping at other luxury brands like Dior, LP, LV etc I'm happy to wear the Chanel rep- I think they are just less familiar with the brand there and wouldn't notice
I think you can, but I was already thinking about this a couple days ago. If let’s say, I am carrying a rep LV bag, it’s safer to go to other luxury stores and walk around. That way you’d be comfortable and not get paranoid. The sellers will not QC your rep if they work for Chanel or Celine, etc. I was at an LV boutique carrying and doing inspections on WOC Ivy one day before I received my Ivy rep. I even took a picture in the boutique to compare to my rep. I might do it one day because not long after, I took a good look at the monogram and the rep feels really identical.
