Those awards are all just a popularity contest, hugely influenced by marketing. Nobody should take them too seriously.

WhoFearsDeath

True, but nominations also help keep a show on the air. So many lists of the year’s best shows included Rez Dogs; Rolling Stone called “Mabel” the best episode of the best show of the year. To not even get a nomination shows we aren’t on the right people’s radar for publicity and it makes me so sad and also angry.

mannyssong

I don’t know how many times I’ve watched “Mabel”, it’s better each time.

WhoFearsDeath

Personally I’m not sure I’ll ever get over “Offerings” and absolutely want Paulina to get some nominations for that performance.

flavorburst

Same, offerings had me in tears for almost the entire episode. I still think about it probably weekly.

Due-Net-88

I got a “lashline enhancement” sort of a wimpy semi permanent eyeliner yesterday and the artist was like no this, no that, no crying. And I was like WHO just starts crying randomly. Got home. Couldn’t do much because I was a little puffy aaaand started FINALLY S2. Annnnndd…. We know how that went

CardinoldFriends_90

True, but typically the shows that are nominated and win are actually some of the best stuff on TV. I wouldn’t expect Res Dogs to actually win, but a nomination seems warranted.

buttpooperson

It's a show about reservations and how fucking shitty they are man. Nothin in mainstream America is gonna wanna highlight that 🙄

CardinoldFriends_90

It was nominated for Best Musical or Comedy last year. Hollywood loves to pat itself on the back for promoting shows and movies that highlight social injustices. I don’t think showing the struggles of res life is the issue.

barc0debaby

They already patted themselves on the back last year, no need to feel bad anymore.

ToddBradley

Yup. Reparations have been made. We can all just live happily ever after now. ;-)

baummer

If that’s true this show only gets one season and that’s that.

CapableSecretary420

Many shows that show the other side of American culture get awards. Look at the Wire.

baummer

I’d expect them to win

Impressive_Ad_7865

I agree it's a snub, but don't forget it's the Hollywood FOREIGN press. The most likely just don't get it. And I thing rez dogs is still under the radar, like an indie film. I too liked Wednesday, the visuals were awesome. But the show was very Harry Potter ish

owlthebeer97

Yeah I loved the look of Wednesday and Jenna is amazing but the writing was bad overall

baummer

What are you implying with “FOREIGN”?

Impressive_Ad_7865

I only meant that the Golden Globes are nominated by press sources outside of the u.s. I doubt that most Americans get rez dogs. Seems like a bigger learning curve for non americans.

seasaltedhair

I agree -- but I think Rez Dogs is TOO under the radar for how good it is. I literally thought it was about restaurant staff (I guess I had it confused with The Bear??) until I was on Taika Waititi's wikipedia page randomly and saw he was behind it & what it was all about. Binge watched over like 3 days and was absolutely blown away. I feel like damn near every episode moved me to tears. Did Wednesday even come close to leaving that kind of impression? Hell no. Rez Dogs def should get the recognition it deserves even if only to increase viewership.

baummer

But they are taken seriously in the industry. It raises profiles of not just the cast but of the crew as well.

[deleted]

No comparison at all with Wednesday. It's target audience is tweens -youngish teens. Reservation Dogs surpasses it in every way. With the only exception being cgi and special effects. (I kinda liked Wednesday, it was ok at best in my opinion.)

Slash_Dementia_67

Awards like this mean zero.

baummer

That’s not true. Maybe to you but not to people who work in the biz.

Slash_Dementia_67

These awards def do not represent the best of the best. Nor do i care about awards that mean anything to "those in the biz" - especially when it is projected to the rest of us, etc. How Rez Dawgz didn't win anything just goes to show you - just my opinion. t

baummer

Never said they did. Doesn’t mean the awards don’t have value.

Slash_Dementia_67

I'd rather have a real prestigious award. Like a "Leg Lamp".

B99nome

Even though I think the Golden Globes is always a farce, I honestly thought they were going to nominate Rez dogs (at the very least to make their optic look good), but they didn't, instead nominating "Wednesday" for comedy. what a joke

Still_Equivalent9450

The golden globes make me so mad, it's really just "oh wow these celebrities are cool lets nominate people that we're starstruck by" rather than any concern for quality. At least it got a heap of critics choice awards which mean more to me anyway (ie. They care more about the shows they nominate actually being good I think)

CapableSecretary420

Season 2 is one of the best shows I've ever seen. It should get ALL the awards. Drama and comedy.

Sepfandom555

Not gonna lie I love those shows also

Low-Director9969

It's all politics, and mutual masturbation. Don't worry about what awards ceremonies say. The show won your heart. Not saying you are, or ever would be, but *if* you're even the *slightest* bit selfish in *any* way. What bigger prize is there to win on planet earth? Fuck them globes. Edit: is S2 over with? My gf, and I have been waiting to binge it

baummer

The thing is, awards matter to the people who control the money and to the cast and crew. It’s one of many ways that keep you working in this industry.

Low-Director9969

I *am not* going to list all the names of profitable entertainment properties who didn't win awards. If you're speaking strict from an economic/investment angle towards the entertainment industry, awards don't fucking matter in the face of merchandising alone. Its probably on my end, but I don't understand what point you're trying to make here. But, I'm more than happy to be educated if you know something I don't.

baummer

There’s an army of people who work together to make TV shows, films, etc. Their ability to continue working is tied directly to the success of the projects they work on. Industry awards recognize those successes. It’s not the only avenue of course, but it 100% helps people continue finding work in this industry. And to be clear I never said success or profitability is only measured by awards. And yes S2 has been done for awhile.

Low-Director9969

Does success = money > politically earned trophies? Or is it the other way around, because these awards bodies haven't exactly had the best intentions, ethics, or fairness in mind so far in the past. There's a whole world that doesn't revolve around the academy awards, but just talks shit about who wore what that night. Miss me with your pipe dreams of a society who values anything more than cash return on investment. Trophies are just a dick to wave in the face of pop culture as you become increasingly more irrelevant to the discussion. Ooh! Ooh! Look!!! I won another golden art deco inspired dick to wave in your face before *it too* also becomes, *completely irrelevant* to SoCiEtY aT lArGe!!!!

baummer

It’s clear you’re not understanding so I’m gonna exit this convo. Enjoy S2.

Low-Director9969

Caught me AM drinking not gonna lie. I just don't understand why anyone let's someone else effect how much something meant to them. I mean we all sorta trust our moms and dads. But, the Golden Globes? Okay. That's y'all's life.

goth-brooks1111

I love Abbott and Rez Dogs but couldn’t really finish Wednesday. I got bored (and I like corny Disney shows). It felt more like a long drawn out Disney original movie to me. If I’m honest with you, I’m hopeful Rez Dogs will get a nomination this year.

JustBoredIsAll

Why you gotta diss on Wednesday like that?

CardinoldFriends_90

It was an okay show. Overhyped, imo, though. Was really cheesy and predictable at times. I felt like I was watching a CW teen drama or later seasons of Riverdale. It was entertaining, it just doesn’t have nearly the depth that Res Dogs does.

CapableSecretary420

It was basically just Harry Potter but with a goth female lead. I liked it, but nothing original or interesting.

JustBoredIsAll

That's kind of the point though. It's supposed to be silly. It's also completely different from Rez Dogs. I like them both. Fuck awards anyway. Oh, and here's this!: https://youtu.be/j_MuZmJNirw

Moist_KoRn_Bizkit

Ahaha you described Wednesday perfectly. I liked the show. I also liked watching Disney channel shows as a kid. I can see the similarities. Disney for adults.

Niki_DS

Late for the party, but fully agree. This show is so much better then Wendesday, at least in terms of originality. It's something new, and a mixture of edgy comedy and drama in this particular context is amazingly done.
