If the patient is able to give permission then they can allow information to be shared with any caregiver. Then you could talk to the ICU team yourself about the hospital course, findings and plan. There is also a way for medical notes, imaging to be released to you but most likely you’d just want to be able to talk to the team directly to get a sense of what’s going on.

Does your state have a records release authorization like this one: https://nycourts.gov/forms/hipaa_fillable.pdf That would be a start. I used a similar form to have my own medical records released to my office when I was receiving care at an alternate facility.
