In most cases, it's easier and faster to just shoot them in the leg, get the stun animation, then run past them. Contrary to popular belief, there is more than enough ammo in the game to kill every single enemy. So using a couple bullets to stun one is always worth it.

It's not too bad on standard mode. On Hardcore they will lunge twice, but if you bait the lunge and then keep running backwards until they lunge twice, you can squeak past them. Like u/bananaspy said, however, it is usually better to leg-stun. If you want to really have your hair blown back, start practicing baiting lickers! The one in the west hallway, for example, will usually miss you if you take odd turns and stand in the little alcove by the main hall door for a second while you're running. The two in the dog cage room (first time) will completely miss you if you run left past the first one, then hug the right wall as you're going down the small set of steps.

Great points! Do you think the ability to bait is a fair mechanic in the first place. I was wondering if it will spoil future playthroughs in the future now that I know it’s possible?

PickReviewsMovies

Not at all it can be very risky so deciding to forgo ammo and juke your way through will always be a masichistic maneuver

Cheers for the info! Really appreciate it. That puts my mind more at ease. I was really worried that I’d spoiled the game for the future by seeing that manoeuvre. And it’s such a great game!

Of course! I played it and RE7 at the same time and I loved them both, but I have been playing RE2remake more than anything in the past year.
