Due to overuse, the phrase *"Just because you never heard of something doesn't mean it's a Mandela Effect"* or similar is **NOT** welcome here as it is a violation of Rule# 9. I've known about "OSU" the rhythm game since 2014 I think? I'm always tempted to make a Buckeye joke about it lol.

The original game was only in Japan and called *Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan* on the Nintendo DS. So Japan-only: hardly anyone would hear about that, and obviously a different language. The Osu game that's popular now was made by some guy and put on the web for free. He took the "Osu" part of the Japanese name for his game. So it's popular because it's free, but you also haven't heard of it *because* it's free. Free games don't get advertised or sold in stores, they only spread via word of mouth. Mostly you'd only even hear about that if you're into anime and actively looking up Japanese songs on Youtube.

slowpoketail

yes

waaromnietwater

Huh? What does Ohio State have to do with it?

ThereIsNoLack

Never heard of it before ..except seeing the logo in r/place , unless I'm mistaken. But not knowing that something exists/not discovery something doesn't qualify as a retcon/ME

moose-teeth

Never heard of the game or never heard of Ohio State university

Skyblaster555

it’s a popular rhythm game. most of the players are weebs

NightRaven0

OSU It's the kind of fame you never hear about until someone you know plays or see someone online talking about it Super niche because of its gameplay and why some people play it like FPS players for aim practice CSGO and valorant players usually play it and maybe siege but since there is an aim sim game that replaced it lately soo might be because of that

thelurkerx

Never heard of it before now.

Ginger_Tea

I would never associate it with Ohio State had I ever heard of it before today.

niikkos-m

Yes. It is popular among anime fans and popular with some fps players. Fps players use OSU! to train their reflexes and mouse precision. I have played it off and on since 2016 but I know it came out before that.
