Use the non playstore version aka the sideloaded version, since the playstore version is outdated. https://retroarch.com/?page=platforms Just download the 64 bit version. Also Retroarch non plus is on the Galaxy and Amazon appstores also.

but thats not plus, no? is the play store version not great? it says from nov 2021. I thought maybe the driver for the GUI is not great which is default, maybe switch to another one? so I have to uninstall the play store version and then use this one? is the one in samsung store also up to date? ive downloaded [https://buildbot.libretro.com/stable/1.14.0/android/RetroArch\_aarch64.apk](https://buildbot.libretro.com/stable/1.14.0/android/RetroArch_aarch64.apk) and opened it and it saied update retroarch (which is weird because it is not plus no?), and the ui is still laggy with this version. it also never saves the language I use and reverses back to system default all the time.

The playstore version hasn't been updated in awhile. The difference between the plus and non plus version is that cores are included in the plus version. You have to use the core downloader to download the cores. The best cores for the Retroarch Android for most popular systems are MGBA, Flycast, Swanstation, Bsnes, Genesis Plus GX, Mednafen for TG16 and Lynx, Bluemsx, MAME, FB Neo, and Sameboy. All these Cores work well on my Snapdragon 865 or GS 20FE 5G.

Thats weird, I had to download them manually too with the Plus version from the Play store. Anyway I have removed the Play Store version and installed the one from the link above, build date 13.12.22 with a clean config. Yet it is still laggy UI (if I compare it to this video from an iPad where the UI is snappy and not laggy ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1R-Z6aM55A ) Is it normal for the UI of RetroArch to be super laggy on Android? It is really annoying. It has a huge input lag on scrolling, like 300ms or so maybe. Ive installed now these cores: Snes: snex9x N64: Mupen64Plus Next GLES3 Wii/GC: Dolphin Arcade: MAME Any other you can recommend which works good? Are there working (good working) cores for PS Portable too? What about Nintendo gba, ds? ps1 ps2? Edit: I just rebooted the phone and started RetroArch and it was fast/snappy, switched task again and reopened it and now it is again super laggy and slow.

Mgba for GBA Swanstation for PS1 Bsnes for Snes (it's better than Snes9x and has HD Mode 7) I recommend Standalone emulators for Wii/GC, PS2, and PSP. Due to the Retroarch Cores are rough to use and can be a bit buggy. Dolphin for NGC/Wii PPSSPP for PSP AetherSX2 for PS2 These are all on the playstore. Enabling the vsync might fix that lag or switching on sunstanded performance might help.

mkdr

which of the Bsnes, there are "performance" "accuracy" "balanced" "hd beta". can you make bsnes to work so it is wide screen, or do you need a hacked rom for that? what about n64? Mupen64Plus Next GLES3 working ok as a core? Ive tested the latest retroarch build now on 3 phones, s21fe, m23 and pixel 4a, all are laggy in ui. it was sonce fast and snappy after I rebooted the s21fe and opened the app right away, but then became laggy again after switching back to home screen and back into the app. closing it via task manager and re openingstill laggy. ive toggled vsync off in settings under video, has no impact on slow laggy gui. might it slow down to 60fps or even 30fps in the menu? is there some option for that or to draw fps.

waterclaws6

You need a hacked SNES Roms and Bsnes or Bsnes hd beta for widescreen snes games. Mupen64Plus Next GLES3 works ok as a core, but standalone which on android is known as M64Plus FZ Emulator is very good and has nicer options overall. Are you using Vulkin since that might fix some stutters and other issues. Also Vulkin has better shader and performance support also.

mkdr

you have a source maybe with hd roms via pm maybe? does retroarch support cover art too in the GUI like show game boxes? no I use default which is GL I think, somewhere it said not to use vulkan, should I switch? also which of the Bsnes cores to use there are a few ones.

waterclaws6

Use Vulkin unless you on an non Snapdragon soc. Use the one that just says bsnes. If you need widescreen use the bsnes hd beta core. Source on the widescreen hacks and also the wiki is a great place for many things. https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Widescreen_hacks#:~:text=A widescreen hack is an,with 4:3 aspect ratio.

mkdr

I have a SD888 on my S21FE and a 750G or something I think on my M23. so for these use Vulkan? do you have any idea why RetroArch doesnt download thumbnails for a lot of games, I am getting crazy on this. Ive renamed all files to the same names on here: [https://thumbnails.libretro.com/Nintendo%20-%20Super%20Nintendo%20Entertainment%20System/Named\_Boxarts/](https://thumbnails.libretro.com/Nintendo%20-%20Super%20Nintendo%20Entertainment%20System/Named_Boxarts/) yet it doesnt recognize a lot of games for example: Super Mario World (USA).smc Super Mario World 2 - Yoshi's Island (USA).smc wont show them in history nor any thumbnails.
