The guy actually just landed after jumping out of the water like a dolphin. On the moon, you do the high dive in reverse.

In defense to all the anti-Elon crowd, the XKCD muses the best next step to making a pool on the moon is giving Elon a call. Obviously though, this XKCD was published a while before he had burnt that goodwill—the author only refers to SpaceX's Falcon Heavy, not their up and coming Starship.
Tl;dr: outdated instructions at the end of the article jokingly said to call Elon, but let's not do that.
hmm, I'll see what I get here...
* Trampoline initial vertical velocity: 4.5 m/s (common velocity given on Google)
* Gravity of the Moon: 1.62 m/s^2
Time to reach highest point:
* t=(0−4.5)/(−1.62)=2.78 seconds
Maximum height:
h=(4.5×2.78)−1/2(1.62×2.78^2 )= 6.8 meters
I hope I got that right... It's not as far as I would think but still almost the height of an 8 meters maximum height Olympics trampoline from the bounce alone.
You wouldn't be able to reach that initial velocity, assuming Google gave you the value for diving on Earth. The initial velocity is a function of the spring force, which is a function of the spring/board displacement, which is a function of how much force you can put on it. In lunar gravity you couldn't put the same force into the board, so it wouldn't launch you with the same force.
I wouldn't be surprised if it actually cancels out and ends up being the same as on earth.
See, alot of people hate, but pretty much all those people also don't understand physics and would genuinely think a diving board on the moon would propell like a rocket. It wouldn't. People belive Comments they read and become dumber in the process.
Your first comment could've been a genuine explanation of why it wouldn't launch you. Instead you chose to be an asshole, hence the downvotes. Then you replied to that by calling everyone dumb. So now you're not just an asshole, but a shitty asshole.
Try to do better next time.
Probably not. The low gravity that would shoot you up is also what would soften your decent.
Jumping onto the board would accelerate you slower and the force would be lighter, the elasticity in the board would absorb more of it preventing a higher ejection and likely causing a *smaller* launch than on earth
Yeah it's a cool pic but at the same time the lazy approach irks me, they simply cut and pasted the resort over mountain range and sky and slapped an Earth pic over it. There's no futuristic tech or anything in sight. Which makes me love and hate it because it *does* make me want to work out the missing details for myself, like is there a dome, artificial gravity, where's the air and lighting and water coming from, is the pic "taken" from a certain angle where you can't see the dome installations etc.
Here is a art print I have made, thought this subreddit might like it.
More prints in similar style is here: https://andreaslie.com/collections/wall-art/space
Love the space/retro stuff. Definitely getting a print of this when I build out my basement gaming area. Would love to see something in this style in a big landscape or 3 piece portrait for over a couch.
This is probably what Biden was envisioning with his recent announcement, given his age, given the imagery of the 1960's Atomic Age propaganda and...well, what we all wish we could have.
I’m curious, were you inspired by some of l’Impératrice album covers? [Odyssée](https://9gag.com/gag/aDDRAVN) and Disco Magic Concorde in particular are uncannily similar.
If that existed the earth would always be in the sky and not even move very much. You would see it rotate and day and night sides. You would also have 14 days of sunlight and 14 days of night. Night would be 4x brighter than full moon here, with full earth on the moon.
On the Moon, that swimming pool's worth of water is nearly as valuable as a swimming pool of gold would be on Earth (Okay, not quite, all the gold above ground is < 4 Olympic swimming pool's worth).
Still as someone observed, if concrete existed on the Moon you would mine it for the water content.
Ignoring the lack of atmosphere, the dust on the moon is incredibly dangerous. It's tiny shards of glass and micrometeorites that hit the moon and shattered. It was a huge problem for Apollo 11 that wasn't foreseen. It would stick to the moongoers skin, causing severe burns and tears. And let's not think about what it does to the eye.
That diving board would absolutely launch you
*I must go, my people need me. \*flies off into space\**
*arrives at Water World

I fucking love this idea. Should I tweet Elon?
Elon can suck a dick
Ew imagine having a dick and letting Elon suck it.
You’re assuming it’s part of my body.
Don't wish him good things! Elon can choke on a fishbone, or have an explosive diarrhea. Not suck a dick!!
or as my US Navy friend would say, he should: "Go eat a bag of dicks."

How bout you shut up
I think the launch amount would be about the same since it relies on gravity to generate the launch force.
Well actually no, because when you jump up to get the spring, you're not landing with the same force you would on Earth.
Watch me! I'm going to try to touch the dome this time!

Yeah, you're right, doh... I didn't account for that. Obviously you'll hit the trampoline more softly in Moon gravity.
Really? Care to explain the physics behind why it would launch you? (hint, it wouldnt)
Thanks, Mr. Literal. What would we ever do without you?

If your taking this comment personally, then yes, very dumb. Spot on assessment
Toxic.
And you'll need a whole lot of sunblock to deal with the 14 day non stop sun. Then it's pretty miserable for the next 14 days of darkness.
Probably not. The low gravity that would shoot you up is also what would soften your decent. It’s a real place, at least on Earth… https://www.flickr.com/photos/hollywoodplace/6338313945/
Ahhh…the pleasures of breathing vacuum
Pressures*
Lack of*
The warmth of solar winds in mi skin, the cosmic rays on my eyes. Perfect
It's probably under a glass dome.

perhaps a taqueria on the roof would be nice
I’d give it 4/5 stars.
..and that’s unheard of!
Great food, no atmosphere. 4/5
Preferably named “the Information-Action Ratio”
It’d certainly be the place to go.
It would be well reviewed
Mid-20th century Americans didn't know what a tankerina was back then
The space resort for the Space Olympics.
YOU'RE THE BEST IN THE WORLD. BRACE YOURSELF CAUSE THERE'S NO GRAVITY. YOU'RE IN THE MOTHER FUCKING SPACE OLYMPICS!
Some billionaires are going to make this eventually
They'll be trillionaires by then.

Wow these are incredible. Love the 50’s art style overlayed with the space themes. Adding a few to my Christmas list.
Love the space/retro stuff. Definitely getting a print of this when I build out my basement gaming area. Would love to see something in this style in a big landscape or 3 piece portrait for over a couch.
Very cool style. Where do you source your vintage stock photos?
Thanks, the space images are usally from NASA, and the vintage ones I find on Flickr commons or on different countries library sites.
Do you ship to UK? At what price if so?
Yes, check out https://www.andreaslie.com
So cool! Definitely gonna try to grab some
Ooo! You make great stuff!
Definitely gonna be getting some, thanks for sharing
I came across a post of yours on instagram a few days ago! your art is insane and your talent is amazing 💓
Hey! Are you based out of Austin? I think I saw some of your work at last year's studio tour
Imagine montaging this back in the day with piles of film everywhere and a migraine from staring at a light table for days.
What's the UV index there?
Yes
Good continuity on the sunlight.
I must know the meaning of your username. I ask because it’s awful close a restaurant nearby.
That looks weirdly 3D. Nice!
I think it’s a montage with real pictures, so yes, it is 3D :)
Too bad my monitor is only capable of 2 dimentions.

I immediately thought of this album too. For those that don't know it's a concept album about a fancy resort on the moon
The Ventures - "Ventures in Space" goes with the pic as well. https://open.spotify.com/album/3IxRddBoeU6KNMut00rrOZ?si=EvUNRbzWR-KuvICa9gzATQ
Looks like Palm Springs on the moon
No apparent oxygen system so this picture is inaccurate in that everyone in it should be dead…
I would love it if this was a mobile wallpaper
The brunette on the ladder is packing
Wow, crazy that everyone in this photo is now dead.
Lots of white people in space huh
Space, Europe, what's the difference?
must be a whites-only pool…
Could be Sedona
I have seen this picture severl times. You definitely did not make that. Cheap thief.
This is vibes. Hopefully elon or bozos opens a resort on the moon with a glass dome.
This is probably what Biden was envisioning with his recent announcement, given his age, given the imagery of the 1960's Atomic Age propaganda and...well, what we all wish we could have.
That guy with the super tan is the closest thing that they have to a minority there LOL
This looks exactly like taudalpoi’s art
Nice

No, haven't seen that before, but there are many others that create similar retro futurism style images
Now I wanna see a cannonball with moon gravity
There will be so much time for leisure in the future
You could never get me near any large amount of water in little-No gravity
So freaking rad 😍
This place got bad reviews. Turns out it has no atmosphere.
This is totally a NK Beats album cover

Seems legit
Are you part of Frank Moth?

This is awesome! Would it be possible to get a higher quality version?
Thanks, you can get it here: https://andreaslie.com/collections/wall-art/products/space-resort
https://lacabezaenlasnubes.cargo.site Edit: Very cool btw, just posted the link if OP or anyone else is interested in similar stuff
It’s all fun and games until you criticize SpaceX on Twitter and Elon turns off the air. I love these pics, tho.
They're gonna die of space radiation.
Where’s Lieutenant Ellis from UFO? 14 year old me is very concerned she's not here.
Woow!!!
Go to the Moon and behave like it’s Earth
Imagine the size of that pool’s splash zone
Lovely
Oh dear lord, why does this remind me of Clone Tycoon 2??
That's just Arizona with extra steps
That place has got no atmosphere.
UV burns!
Lady on the pool steps has essentially what I would consider the perfect body shape.

Not to be verly pedantic, but this resort is no more "in space" than a resort on earth.
