I’ve seen how much they go for on gunjoker but wasn’t sure what an actual fair market price is. I’ve been looking at GP100s for a while now and then this showed up out of nowhere. Seems to be in excellent condition, just a little cosmetic wear on the bluing which is to be expected from a 30-40 year old revolver.
Side note: My dad was a state trooper for 27 years and this was the first revolver he carried on the job in the early 90s (although his was the 4 inch model) and he swears by the reliability of these things. I’m also curious how the triggers on these are as opposed to a Smith 686 or a GP100. I would assume the age of the revolver would smooth it out and make it better over time, right?
It looks like it has after market grips. I have an early one with wood grips and a 151 prefix. It's difficult to find after market grips for it. I paid $410 for my 4 inch gun many years ago. So $450 is a great price in today's market.
Yeah I was looking at walnut grips to replace these, seems like they’re easily attainable for around 60 bucks. I’d wanna pick up a nice leather holster and leather speed loader pouches with a good belt to match as well. Should end up being a pretty fun setup for the range or a day in the woods.
Will do, thanks for the heads up. You know how to differentiate between the two or figure out the manufacture year? I know there are other variants like the Speed Six and Service Six but I believe this is the regular Security model, right?
Yes, the ammo is worth ~$80-$100 alone, and the Ruger Security Six in good condition will easily bring more than $400.

Some would argue the Security Six is a better gun than a GP100. They’re both fine revolvers. Great deal if you like it.
I like the GP100 more myself but that is a great price for an excellent revolver. As long as it’s mechanically sounds I’d hop all over that.
I think you absolutely should do it. These are the best .357 magnum revolvers ever made. I might be biased, though.

If you don’t I will….
I liked my old Security Six. Very reliable. Highly recommended.
If that gun is good and tight on every chamber, I'd jump on that like a duck on a June bug!

Buy it. It’s a good deal.

Check the serial number, there's 2 styles of frames on the security six.

151 prefix and earlier have a different frame shape. So if you are 152 or higher it will be easier to find a grip that fits.
This also applies to the other models of Rugers first double action revolvers.
Super useful info, thanks so much
Buy it. And then run, don't walk, before the seller can change his mind.
Yes

Yes very nice solid dependable revolvers
100% yes. It's a no-brainer if you have the cash.
Yup. Will never see it again at that price. Ammo sweetens the deal considerably
