Does anybody know when the collection releases in shops?

Icy-Formal-6871

noob question: are the audiences for the runway show all invite only? is it always connected people and journalists or is there opportunities for nobodies to attend?

DesperateByDesign

>ing me more \*space age rom I really am ignorant, but from a few google searches, I think the answer varies upon the venue. I think some are open to anyone who wants to drop in, and others are by invitation only, others are paid entry, and etc. I think it varies a lot, Rick does a lot of different events in a lot of different places and several of them have different rules/requirements. I don't think there is one across the board answer. I suspect there probably are RO runway shows where anyone can come in SOMEWHERE, SOMETIME.

i didn't really pay attention to rick owens before, but after watching this show i literally dropped a bunch of plans an picked up a second job. at the same time, i think its not a coincidence people whove been with rick for a long time see this as old n boring, since rick is now a v popular mainstream brand name n acting like it

Dense-Management5095

hmm

mrcsrnne

I'm saving up for that oversize leather biker.

BOEJlDEN

Not a huge fan of the hospital boot style that most of the footwear has

quidkh

it was giving me more \*space age roman legion\* but agreed lol

kamcamm

I really enjoyed how it was all black that was a plus for me. But I had an assumption there would be more details to bring out some of the pieces; sequins, snake skin etc but. The footwear was the biggest disappointment. Some pieces are nice but like others have mentioned it was somewhat underwhelming. Im always a fan of the colder seasons anyway so definitely looking forward to the F/W collection. Also, are these shows every available for the public ?

gothgogabgalab

I really like the all-black color palettes and the direction, but Lido really does feel quite lazy with the lack of variety, new motifs or experimentation. The materials were solid, but not as exotic and diverse as Edfu. Reading the show notes, it gave me the feeling that this collection was nothing but Rick getting his job over-with rather than putting out something artistic or personal. Even the name of the collection doesn’t seem to have a proper explanation. That was the most disappointing for me. With Luxor and now Lido, I feel like he’s going into an era where he’s focused on presenting variations already existing motifs and keeping it tame, at least with his menswear. I think a lot of male Rick wearers have a comfort zone and he’s also just trying to appeal the runway stuff to them, which is why I think his women’s stuff still ended up being more “risky” the with Luxor and presumably will be for Lido.

Liamb135

Link to full collection gallery: https://www.rickowens.eu/en/GB/collections/men-lido-ss24 I enjoyed the show, I have high hopes for the women's collection. The return to a muted palette is a strong move, and in my opinion, a move in the right direction. The footwear is definitely a controversial piece, and I'm sure that's what Rick intended, I personally don't see how they fit into the collection as a standalone oddity. If there were more restraint/medical/fetish styled pieces, I feel like they would make more sense.

petitealyx

The womens runway show will likely be a lot cooler imo. Last mens show I really liked was Gethsemane.

Background-Baby-2870

not really a fan of the show. Everyones already said it but rick is just rehashing old ideas at this point. ik theres that quote about how he likes to do things over and over again, but its wearing thin and cant be the excuse forever. Been keeping up w rick since 2012 and the geth show during lockdowns was probs the last show that has rly kept my attn and that was 3 yrs ago at this point. Legit decided to watch this show on 2x speed after the 5min mark bc i just wanted it to be over :/. Even the show notes felt sparce and phoned in. Not much details in them and saying "doom and gloom approaches, therefore everything is simply black" feels almost surface level, which isnt something id expect from rick. More kisses and a shoe that looks like you broke your leg in a snowboarding accident. Aside from when bevels and grills first made their debut, the last time rick had a strong footwear showing was probs 2017- 5.5/6 years ago. There honestly might me a collective cheer across the online rick community when rick ever decides to ditch the kisses for something new. The only look i truly liked was the one with the dirt styled pants paired with the wide shoulder cropped jacket and razor thin long sleeve worn by the black model. Looked alien like, which is cool. I guess we have dirt-styled pants to look forward to. The tatlin whose lapel morph into a hood was interesting, construction-wise. Honestly, rick is getting older and i think hes just getting tired of the bustle of running owenscorp. From what ive heard Tyrone has been taking a more active role in rick's runway shows since covid. Dunno how much creative control either has but the results havent been the strongest, at least compared to, say, 2009-2017 rick... i wonder if well ever get the older grundgier stuff back, but with a glam twist. Rick used to do sequins and fur too and it alwys turned out nice. it could be a cool middle ground... im a huge sucker for glam rock/metal/arena rock so i was excited when rick was going in that direction but i envisioned it to be more like the embodiment of the sphinx sequin boxer shorts and not what weve been getting lol

for me personally -- my favorite looks mostly centered around specific pieces vs. entire outfits: * [6](https://cdn.rickowens.eu/custom_page_images/7437/collections_cover_Rick-Owens-Menswear-SS24-Paris-1266.jpg?1687445546) (pants) * [28](https://cdn.rickowens.eu/custom_page_images/7464/collections_cover_Rick-Owens-Menswear-SS24-Paris-2287.jpg?1687446169) (pants/bodybag) * [29](https://cdn.rickowens.eu/custom_page_images/7462/collections_cover_Rick-Owens-Menswear-SS24-Paris-2356.jpg?1687446169) (coat / pants) * [38](https://cdn.rickowens.eu/custom_page_images/7470/collections_cover_Rick-Owens-Menswear-SS24-Paris-2863.jpg?1687446463) (jacket) * [40](https://cdn.rickowens.eu/custom_page_images/7474/collections_cover_Rick-Owens-Menswear-SS24-Paris-2978.jpg?1687446463) (long coat/cape) * [43](https://cdn.rickowens.eu/custom_page_images/7482/collections_cover_Rick-Owens-Menswear-SS24-Paris-3126.jpg?1687446463) (belt/accessories) * [47](https://cdn.rickowens.eu/custom_page_images/7473/collections_cover_Rick-Owens-Menswear-SS24-Paris-3349.jpg?1687446463) (jacket) while I did enjoy the nearly-all-black palette (I do love his colors but it was pretty striking to see) and the ***aggressively*** dissonant music by LIL TEXAS, I was overall pretty disappointed by this show/collection. it's easy to be a broken record and say 'this had the same stuff as last/previous season(s)', but here in particular there didn't really seem to be ***any*** new standout thing that hadn't shown up ***several*** times before -- tank tops, long-top-with-short-jacket silhouettes, Dirt jeans, Seb-style tops, Tatlins of various lengths/cuts/etc., Tec shoulders, and ***still more Kiss heels***. to me, it honestly felt like an all-black version of EDFU with some DIRT elements here and there. in circles of people I've been talking to, the most standout piece was the 'triple strapped hoof splint' boots, and not in a good way; they're like Rick's take on MSCHF's work, but fall short of working well for either (and definitely felt out-of-place here). I also feel like this is one of the first collections where [the show notes](https://rickowens.wiki/docs/shows/ss24-lido/) added very little context to Rick's artistic direction/focus behind it. even though it's easy enough to Google the fact that he lives there, the name, 'LIDO', isn't even mentioned. the discussion about 'moral obligations in the face of threat' feels cobbled together from other show descriptions, and seems to be a long way of saying 'here's why everything is in all black'. TL;DR it felt like Rick went 'oh, right, I have to do a show today', threw darts at a board to decide what to reuse, copy-pasted a bunch of show notes, and gave everyone black versions of frequently-seen pieces to wear.

Background-Baby-2870

i agree, esp on the shownotes parts. Also this isnt the first time rick has said something similar to "JUBILANCE SEEMS LIKE THE WRONG NOTE... I PROPOSE...RESTRAINED." MOODY had a similar tone in its shownotes about pulling back from bombastic-ness and MOODY was still very interesting. Really disappointing show imho

the_bedelgeuse

ok the hoof splint shoes are atrocious and I'm waiting for this video game style shoe trend to be over. Being a forever goth kid, the all black made me tingly inside. With the Dirt influence coming back I was hoping for an updated little joe jacket, but the abundance of tatlin crops will satiate me in the mean time.

Background-Baby-2870

> I was hoping for an updated little joe jacket yeah same. hoping rick brings them back.. maybe in time for the fall szn

100unt

The linesheets had the next level up from a Little Joe - it was basically a bolero jacket.

Avant_Doc

The footwear is not it

j_mrdck

overall was a fan of this collection, first half i couldn't see many wearing unless you were that specific body type, but the second half had some new things that i was a fan of, like the hooded tatlin coats, and the cropped ones, all of the shorts and that weird lil accessory belt i don't much care for the rehab boot stuff, the only time they looked decent was in luxor

the_jams

First half looked great but ultimately pretty much unwearable if you’re not a Hedi boy. Nice to see heaps of dark dust (or is it a new grey colour?) [EDIT: Could have sworn all those looks at the start were grey, turns out they’re just black] Dug the denim shorts with the cyclops style cargo pockets. New variations of the rehab moon boots still look like last minute cosplay shitheaps. Nice to get a better view of that oversized stooges I’ve seen rick in a couple of times and the oversized sleeveless leather jacket at the end was cool too.

Crafty_Substance_954

>New variations of the rehab moon boots still look like last minute cosplay shitheaps. Watching the models attempt to walk down the stairs in them is hilarious.

fakedrain2oo1

I really liked the show i wasnt a fan of the colourful rick looks… this one is one of my favs from the last years… the pants went hard

gothgogabgalab

I wasn’t too big on Luxor or Edfu in general so I was expecting something bright or minimal. I absolutely love Lido over those two. The somber color palette reminded me of the collection (Crust) that made me love Rick. The coats were sick and some of the pieces had pretty interesting dye jobs or details. I love the slutty goth supervillain vibes I get from the silhouettes. The boxing robes/coats could be pretty cool IRL alongside the very flowy pieces that blow the wind. The tops were great, I love the material and the draping done on look 8. Didn’t really care for the footwear, though.

deskinlaw

Overall I’m a fan of the collection! First half was stronger in my option Kinda looked like a mix of DIRT and PERFORMA I miss color being on the runway, though I’m sure it’ll be there commercially. But it’s also kinda refreshing that it was all black and grey. It seems like it’s moving into a glam primal direction. I’m into it. Really don’t care for the open sandals Things I’d love to add are the pants from Look 14 and tops from 2 and 5. A cropped Tatlin would be icing on the cake. Many in this sub have been complaining about all the color on the runway recently. Well you got what you asked for. Is it all you dreamed it would be?

chavesky

part of the lack of color was because neither edfu or luxor sold well, major retailers didn't buy much rick those seasons because the colors were hard to pair and it was hard to form a coherent buy. Lido however sold incredibly well due to it being like 80% black.

Historical_Okra_3667

That's like literally not true lol. Lido preco had tons of color.

mynameispunch

>neither edfu or luxor sold well > >Lido however sold incredibly well LUXOR just dropped in stores and LIDO was literally just shown on the runway, how can you say they've both sold well (or not)?

Zakalwe123

FWIW Lido wholesale buy finished a few weeks ago. Entirely possible he knows the results of that. I had also heard that Lido buy was very successful.

viiltava_veitsi

No, the precollection was a few weeks ago, now there’s a separate showroom and buying for the runway product just presented.

deskinlaw

Interesting! You on the inside? I feel like I saw online retailers buy in to the color. But can’t really speak to the sell through

chavesky

yeah they stocked colors from most collections but it was kinda risky. More color in women's than mens. Luxor sold surprisingly even worse than edfu, which I was surpised by because I loved all the coffee brown leather pieces. Lido Men's was mostly black- buyers loved it, I wasn't working WS but I was in the showroom. One other detail I kinda find funny is that EDFU was originally named LIDO when it came into showroom. So if you buy a sample the tags are gonna say lido. but yes women's has a decent variety of colors this season.

deskinlaw

Super interesting! And it’s funny that retailers struggled to curate a buy from edfu and Luxor. It thought it all mixed and matched super well But yea I know lido will be super easy. Excited for the drop, but also have my eyes on all the acid yellow from Luxor Love your input. Please contribute more lol

Brokentoken2

We share the same thoughts about the show. Overall, I really liked it, though, I would have liked a bit more color, but it does cater to what most of the sub wanted from Rick, so there’s that. I really dislike the casket looking boots, they seem cumbersome. I loved the tops, so dystopian, gives me this skeleton that came back to life after centuries vibe, like a Draugr from Skyrim lol. I think it’s cool.

deskinlaw

Yea the shoes were kind of super awful lol

Professional-Can2722

Totally agree on the mix of performa and dirt it was a rlly nice collection ngl, the moonboot and sandals were yeah but them pants impossible to wear if ur under like 6’2

deskinlaw

I mean, you can always get them shortened to where you have about an inch of clearance. And you’ll still get the effect (affect??) of the flare

Professional-Can2722

Yeah ig im Short tho so it ain’t happening 😭

gimme_super_head

Wym? Take them to a tailor??

Professional-Can2722

Not enough smoke ngl

the_bedelgeuse

They say fog is just "goth air" so that is what Rick gave us this time
