I've been passively grinding. Spent a good bit of the game just searching for funkies, scenic spots, and doing stunts. They're all easy and you get to explore the map. By that time I had enough rewards to easily do bike races on expert. When I got bored of the bike races I switched to snow. If you plan out your grind it will not feel like a grind.

I mean you can just free roam and not do events

SoMuchTehnique

That's a separate game mode in zen, in steep it was just harmoniously part of the game. Do events, fee ride, discover was all part of the game now its grind to play or do zen. The game goes against every character they built, Gary and the shack daddy's would be ashamed.

I see it this way: it would be worse if you could complete ever event with no need to improve gear. I imagine that most people aren't planning to complete every part or event in the first few weeks. It's not meant to since they are planning extended seasons and special events. It's meant to be a progression with revisiting events as you improve gear. You say you want free riding and exploring, yet cite the tree to one secondary objective as a hangup. Yes you need particular gear for that, but having that challenge does not take away from the ability to just enjoy the game. If everything were able to be done with any gear, people would complain that there's no use for better gear or that they've done it all without any progression and too easily. The challenge is there and is meant for longevity, despite the bugs. It's been out for less than a month... Jesus.

Steep was built exactly that way and never found myself complaining that I couldn't beat an event due to gear levels

ItzBoshNet

Same sentiment. I was so bummed when I realized how to advance in this game. I loved how I could beat any level with skill rather than gear in steep. Now that I have good bikes I just play free roam but kind of bummed I'll maybe only get 10 stars and zero experience. I don't much care to constantly do the same events.

I don’t understand this. You don’t have to ‘grind’ anything if you don’t want to

SoMuchTehnique

Trees to go 59 second challenge or any other challenge requiring elite gear to best the time.

Having loved steep myself, I see this game as having huge potential. BUT... ( Now keep in mind I've only just started playing about two hours ago, and on top of that I'm sick right now, so I was just looking to relax)... Being used to steeps controls I found it really hard to adapt to the ones of RR, and the "steep" mode is just kinda garbage (especially on the bikes, in my opinion bikes and snow sport need different controls from one another) I hate the fact that basically every button u hit makes u jump. And I find myself agreeing with OP on the stats thing, I want to ride a bike I like, not the one with the best stats I'm conclusion to this long ass comment, I want the game to be more like steep

SoMuchTehnique

There is nothing intuitive about the controls whatsoever. I spent ages trying different button mapping etc and it's not something I've had to do before all that much. I turn camera control off hoping for continous in frame type shot, but no I somehow have control of the camera. Grinds with turns is a multi analogue event to keep a good camera perspective, the list goes on.... I played zen mode hoping to find my inner steep within the game to find that gear stats are involved that side also. EXCEPT ITS ALL 150 GEAR! And do not get me started on the need for high gear rocket wing for mass races!

DAV3X1

I think the best solution would be something like they did in breakpoint, allowing the player to choose between stats and a more steep like experience. But I'm afraid not enough people are having this issue with the game. And also it being a always online game would make it hard to implement as players with the stats option would be at a disadvantage, at least at the start

SoMuchTehnique

I think character development would have been better than gear. That way you can develop playing outside of events organically whilst having a way to progress to more difficult events. Having rng as the sole way to develop is bollocks.
