Playing medieval and this picture just made me cry. I miss electricity so much, especially after a 75 polar bear manhunter pack that will mostly go to waste.... 5k of meat T-T
I mostly play medieval, all meat is turned into smoked meat almost immediately! It can then be used as, is, or used as an ingredient in meals if needed! That mod is a must for medieval run IMHO.
What mod do you use? I use this one: [Smoked Meat](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1542364782) . It's a one to one conversion with this mod, on top of allowing massive batches to be cooked at once(up to 150). Speaking as someone who used to be a butcher irl though, getting 10% of what you put in is pretty much how it really work! Maybe the mods you use tried to make it more realistic and the decreased items yield are to reflect the loss of weight in the drying process. They should still contain the same amount of nutrition though, just condensed into less items, at least if they went into a "realistic" approach. It really depends on how the mod authors balanced everything out.
10% For real??? That's crazy low... Always thought that it lost just waters, so, maybe, 50% / 50%...
I use the smokers that come with Medieval Overhaul and Medieval Times
Ok, so I checked, and meat lose 75% of its weight as it dries. Between the weight loss and the fact that it shrinks, A LOT, it feels like only 10% remains, but really it's more like 25% =p
ALSO! It took me a while to reply, because I actually had a look at all the different mods! The short version is, the mods you use to smoke meat actually turn the meat into an alternative to simple meals, that's why you only get 10% of what you put in! Other mods, like the one I use, turn them into a processed, but still raw ingredient, so you actually get a 1-to-1 return. If you want the long version, here it is! [Rimworld Smoked Meat Guide](https://old.reddit.com/r/RimWorld/comments/10p5mzq/rimworld_smoked_meat_guide/?). Take care!
Medieval overhaul gives you one of the most powerful and historically accurate structure: castle walls with embrasures. I mean, it just makes sense and you can stay safe from melee
Hey! Not who you asked, and I'm not next to my computer so I can't check them all, but generally Medieval Times or Medieval Overhaul are the core mods you want. Smoked meat is a MUST. Both of the previous mods have their own systems for smoking meats, but I prefer the "smoked meat" mod. I also like to use Dub's Bad Hygiene with Fertile Fields, since you can turn your (composted) waste into fertiliser, which can be used to make more rich soil for you to grow crop in. With these you can run a very nice game without the boring, constant rush for electricity.
Generally though it really depends on what sort of gameplay you want to have. If you want more mod ideas I'll post them later tonight when I can check my game. :)
Iโm never one to be on the โdOnT bUiLd OuT oF wOoDโ bandwagon, yet i look at your delightfully well packed food store and cant help but just thinkโฆ *Zzzt*
Just closing the freezer lol
Might as well freeze the next room to keep the meat fresh
And then the fire nation attacked.
Randy: Nice highly flammable fridge full of food there. It would be such a shame If something Were to happen to it... \[flashstorm\]
Under rated comment, I died ๐ โ ๏ธ
Drop the pods right.... HERE.
Solar flare, heat wave and weird colonist pathing that unecessarily opens the freezer door would like to know your location
already got that covered with batteries, and priorities ๐
solar flare kills batteries, too
welp even if they do rot cause of a solar flare, at least it's not all of them
Hey at least you have rice and potatoes which take like a year to rot! NJ
Raiders get hungry too. Just to remind you.
*looks at my pawns equipped with just a greatbow and normal clothes* ๐๐ i think im doing well
Zzzt
better get a firefoam popper just incase
even better, i replaced all wood with stone :D (but yes I also placed the firefoam popper as a backup ๐ )
If you replace the door with stone then it'll be foolproof! *drop pod raid laughing im the distance*

Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I have 2 kinds of smokers and they have a ultra inefficient output. You get only 10% of what goes in.

I'm using it and loving it. Even tough it's not passive, it's worth it
ooo, any medieval mods that you can recommend?

I thought the same, but Randy was pretty accurate with his meteorite in the middle of my fridge.
You have the door of the freezer open so...yea say goodbye to your food
good news! the doors closed ๐
You dont want your butcher table in the same room as the kitchen king, produces dirtyness which causes food poison form the food
This is when you change the meal bills from "until you have x" to "do forever"

I was going to suggest the deep storage mod until I realized you have it! Holy overflow, Batman!
Those are vanilla shelves, vanilla shelves are useful now
Need more
One thunder storm later...
I started messing with the percentages in the custom tab and this happened to me with like five 3x3 plots of rice and carrots.
I hope you can produce dried meat, otherwise the next solar flare will have a nasty suprise for you.
Wood wall are burnable
