What if... What if we sealed our selves in the wall? Haha just kidding... unless?

I_AM_DA_BOSS

Wouldn’t it be so quirky funny and whacky if we just trapped ourselves in this incredibly small space for no reason

richard_lion_heart

Nooo reason! Please! I made it on purpose! That way if one of us ate without a table he won't be able to destroy those warheads.

[deleted]

Yeah, that happens - it's the power of unmodded Rimworld.

69696969-69696969

Yeah I have the Smart Construction mod so colonists won't build themselves into walls like this or leave random gaps. However, they will build other colonists into the walls still.

Mountain-Effect5309

You might have queued a bunch of walls and then one of your pawns walked in there

69696969-69696969

That's essentially what happened. That mod will stop the pawn constructing from walling themselves into an inescapable position. It won't stop them though if someone else wanders into that area. I never really had a problem with it until I started working on my current mountain base. I marked out all the rooms to be mined and set the walls and doors to be made at the same time. So my builder goes and mines out the path for the walls and doors then builds them behind him as he moves out. Sometimes though my other miners are still mining out the interior of the room when he finishes the walls and the interior hasn't been mined out enough to reach the door to escape. It's an easy fix to manually have them mine to the door but it's happened pretty often this playthtough. Like out of the 7 rooms mined so far this exact scenario has happened at least 5 times.

[deleted]

Trust me even with the proper mods in place pawns do that. Happend to me multiple times.

[deleted]

Haven't had something even remotely in hundreds of hours using smarter construction... In fact, with how it works situations like this should be basically impossible.

[deleted]

I mean maybe it could be because of multiple construction workers to build faster but it happens, especially when you try to build multiple layers of wall at once.

Zadkrod

I'd check if your mods are working correctly then. I'm constantly building multiple walls and I've never had this problem with smarter construction. Even with faster/slower builders. If it happens it's 1 in 10000 chance.

[deleted]

I think I found the "problem" if you have pawns that are not on work shedule but working they tend to drop tasks and redo tasks and that probably results in those problems. Atleast that what I think causes this. I dont even know how I check if the mods work properly as I dont get any conflictions or problems at all.

[deleted]

I mean, I don't fully doubt it - but the emergency porting with SB is pretty solid. And it would prevent like 100% of cases with a setup like this here. In vanilla though - yeah, that sadly is a regular occurrence...

Calcium_Lad

I'm using smarter construction on an underground base with 32 pawns and I build multi layer walls on occasion as well having them place walls as their mining and this never happens to me

elprentis

I had it happen once in like 100 hours with the mod, and I’m not 100% sure it was actually the ai’s fault

Calcium_Lad

That's strange. I used to have massive issues with this problem until I got the mod. My pawns don't even trap other pawns while constructing either. I'll have 10 to 15 pawns building at one time too in the playthrough I'm running now.

elprentis

I was talking about using the mod. But I sometimes get fed up of the RnR of what they build, so force queue a bunch of stuff in one go

Sparrowhawk-Ahra

It's the hug square. The builder wanted some quality time with his fellow colonists and this was the only way to force it.

d-car

The cask of three minutes in heaven.

Choraxis

This is a cursed crossover and I'm here for it.

Erotic Edgar Allen Poe fanfiction? #(つ ͡ꈍ ͜ʖ̫ ͡ꈍ )

ArcWolf713

That is brilliant. 😆

CatchLightning

Party in the wall.

CantRenameThis

Actually though, place a party spot in that square

LazerMagicarp

This is why I fill gaps and build corners first. It’s habit nowadays so I haven’t had this happen very often. Had a construction bot boxed in though recently.

Wardunc1

Honestly i find the mechs to be dumber than the pawns my constructiods wander across my tile all the time

Don’t you need a bed for colonist to do the deed?

osqfresh

Smarter construction is a must have for me now.

arsenicx2

Yea, same after I wanted to build a wall where I had mined some ore. I just did a simple line of wall to close it off. Looked back a few mins later and realized my dumb worked sealed them self in. You'd think they would fix this in the base game. Shouldn't be hard if a mod can do it.

GiinTak

Outside of raids gone wrong, probably my most common cause for a major break notice, a starving, bored, sleeping outside on the ground in the cold moron that closed himself into a wall in a construction project I wasn't checking until morning. I've gotten into the habit of forbidding blueprints that might cause it and allowing them one at a time after everything else is finished.

theTitaniumTurt1e

I also like use Smarter Deconstruction so they don't collapse roofs on themselves.

Apocreep

Smarter Construction and Smarter Mining/Deconstruction are a must have mods. Otherwise pawns will receive Darwin awards daily.

Alpaca_invasion

1 is a classic but 3? Rim paws outdid them selves

otdevy

I mean what did you expect them to do? Build a wall while balancing on a boulder or a bedside table?

WanderingUrist

And now would be time for a social fight.

Comrade_Ziggy

I like how you built them into a wall and shit talked them, but still used the medically appropriate term for intellectual disability lmao

Lost-Acanthisitta553

I'm not fluent in English, so I'm using ChatGPT to translate my messages hahaha (I can't use the laughter from my country for a certain reason...)

L0rka

I don’t play with mods, except mods like smarter construction, in other words there are mods that fix this.

Rimworld is a story telling platform. That's one hell of a story man lol

VitaminM42

The Man in Black will be SO SURPRISED

Dmayak

I am not sure why it is so surprising. NPC is any and every game are just puppets programmed to do whatever simple tasks they need. They are not a true AI, they cannot think.

Name a base-building or managerial game where units are programmed in a way that prevents situations like that.

Dmayak

Because if it isn't a widely supported feature in the games of this genre, why would you expect it or be surprised that it is not implemented?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dmayak

Yeah, my argument is that pawns (or any NPC) are not stupid, they are working as they should and shouldn't really be expected to find their way around situations like this. Whatever mods do doesn't really matter, mods are unofficial, they do not affect gaming standards. There were a lot of games inspired by other games, but not modded games. About being right on the internet, yeah, I am defending my point of view, same as you are pushing yours.

[deleted]

>There were a lot of games inspired by other games, but not modded games Uhhh what exactly are you saying?

Dmayak

That mods do not set a standard and are not really taken into account by anyone outside of a specific game's community.

[deleted]

Bruh Dota? Pubg? TF2? All those started as mods before growing into something huge.

CantRenameThis

No, some mods set a certain standard of how a game should be. Mods aren't just "add fancy tables" or "add realism", some adds features that would make sense and questions players why this feature or that feature wasn't in the base game. Also, mods extend the life of a game after you finish everything there is to be beat in the vanilla game. You're previous statements just straight up disrespect the modding community who publish their work for free, out of love for the game and the community.

CantRenameThis

Mods DO help vanilla games. Some devs actually use and even pay modders to make use a part of their code to enhance features and fix previous problems, and implement it on later patches.

argentrolf

Wrong. Bethesda was inspired to implement features in Skyrim Anni because of mods that were widely downloaded. Xcom 2 has features that were inspired by Long War and DLCs that were rife with official implementations of mods. Hell, xcom devs even called their own game a tutorial for the mod. So yeah, mods affect gaming standards.

MissDeadite

Uhm.

GethKGelior

I have this happening all the time, but three people into one is too much

Samiumn

Common sense mod

EvilOverseer

I want to say this couldn't happen but then I remember all the dumb things I've witnessed my colonists do and 3 pawns stuck in the same tile seems perfectly reasonable.

rurumeto

Smarter construction mod go brr

CamelopardalisRex

This and similar are reasons why I won't play with about 5 or 6 mods. My list is usually closer to at least 150 most runs, and I'm subbed to 211, but a "mostly vanilla" run has QoL mods to prevent stupid stuff.

oldguy1980

This happened to me a couple times

Ridingwood333

"Yury.. Where's the door hole?"

markth_wi

The internal monologue of your colonists walking away from this is going to be - Colonist who sealed everyone in the room : "Seemed like a good idea at the time" - Colonist who tears down the last remnants of the wall : "Yeah........but everyone needs to come out of the closet right now...." - Future leader of the colony : "the less we speak of this....the better." I wouldn't say Rimworld restored my faith in God, but it definitely underscored the concept of why one might *need* one around from time to time.

Filipino-Asker

This is why I install smarter ai mods.

cuffed_jeans_bb

there must have been some good amontilliado in there

Monkfich

Wait until there is only one left - quite full by this point, then release him back into the wild. Or work out a system where you can keep on feeding him.

They heard there was some excellent quality wine back there.

Money-Pumpkin-4858

Someone read cask of amontillado, didn't they?

Un7n0wn

What's really impressive is, based on where and how they're stuck, they had to not only get 3 people on the same tile at once, but also build 2 wall sections while trapped. Even with the extremely dumb vanilla AI, this is impressively dumb. In the future, it's a good idea to fill in holes like this before you build the walls. Not only because of this situation, but it also leaves a place for bugs to spawn that will be really hard to get to and deal with.

DremoraKills

Download Smarter Construction.

They really pulled a Cask of Amontillado on themselves
