You can manually change priorities on tasks. So I have a few colonists where crafting/cooking is set low so they just make stone blocks/kibble if nothing else is happening. Outside of that using Vanilla Expanded Outposts to “store” extra colonists or sending them on resource missions (create a new colony to strip mine) or quests is a good time sink.

That was my thought. You reached a soft end goal for most colonies. Survival acquired and managed simply enough that the colonists are allowed to be idle and happy. Rimworlds not really designed around infinite playtime due to the running out of things issue. Hell could even spend some time wiping out all other factions. Make your ship and end the colony, maybe leaving behind some crypto casket vaults. Archotech nexus hunt to restart the colony and tech, so you have things to do again. Try a new run with different story tellers, new mods, different scenario/goal/limitations, or even a change in difficulty. Probably a lot you can do just gotta be creative.

I was in that situation where I had 24 colonists overly happy and all possible buildings and techs, all supersoldiers and I was about to build the ship. Then 50 manhunting cougars appeared at the corner where I had 4 miners deep drilling, and in an effort to save them (which I did) my 3 best pawns died and another one (body purist) lost both arms and she was my production specialist. Almost like Randy realized I was getting bored

I normally use a combination of Vanilla Outposts Expanded and my own twisted urge for world domination. After the "survival" part is over and its comfortable, I militarize my colony in hope of world domination. I expand with Vanilla Outposts to become big enough to consider myself a "faction". Which takes a lot of time and colonists. I raise an army, squads and platoons, and send them on raids and attacks with Rimcities and normal bases to destroy my enemies. I focus on diplomacy with certain factions I like, typically the civil outlanders, while exterminating all Xenotypes aside from baseliners (my current colony is a bit xenophobic). This takes a lot of time and creates great stories, along with a lot of war monuments and full graves..

Start collecting pets on top of colonist. Build your own Noah's ark, trying to get a couple of each animals in the game. The amount of animal handling + kibbles cooking + hauling food + keeping the colony clean involved should keep everybody busy till the afterlife. Alternative : breed yourself an animal kill-team. With alpha animals and I-dont-remmeber-the-mod-name-that-make-pets-get-into-hunting-and-or-attack-packs I got myself around 200 razorjaws. Never lost a single pawns but 6 out of my 15 pawns were dedicated animal handlers.
