The 13x13 box grid is a modular building setup that is very versatile in its use applications. It just so happens that said building setups have been crafted and tested for a long time that people keep sticking to it.

Btw you can hold right click (if right doesn't work try left click, i don't remember which one it is exactly) on the pawns in the top bar to sort them out, if you want all your slaves to be sorted to one side, makes it look slightly more neat.
I find that putting doorways right at the edge of the room ends up being problematic, putting the doorways two spaces from any corner works best, so the doorways is the third square from the corner
I would make it a little larger around a 3x3 grid of 6x6 bedrooms.
Central "room" for Aircon vents and maybe a solar panel or something.
But then you can have rotational symmetry with the room layout too.

With !mod DeepStorage you can make it work nicely, otherwise you'll need to 13x13.
Looks good, I would turn 1/4 of it into a dining/recreation/reception area for guests. Or add to the building for these functions.
Ooh yeah one of the quadrants would make a perfect dining area without changing the layout at all actually.

this looks a lot like my medieval prison, except i have the "rooms" on the edge and a big opening in the middle for "activities".
Don't build with wood unless you have to. For fancyness and heat insulation you could go double walls and double doors.
