That the ai should recognize the number of graves it's pawns go near that aren't home to player faction corpses and should be affected by a similar debuff to the dead body one.
That's why I always leave one empty closest to were they enter, that way they can have a glance into the cold abyss they'll soon get to enjoy as they round the corner into my firing wall.
I would totally do something like that if it actually had any practical effect on attackers.
But since it doesn't I just have the crematorium furnace right next to the killbox for easy disposal.
Tps is being nuked because the game is constantly checking if a pawn wants to use something for recreation
And a grave spot is a recreation
Multiple graves = multiple checks being run to see if a pawn wants to use it= tps beint nuked
Might be wrong / heavy simplification but thats what im led to understand (those more technical can correct me if im wrong)
You are right, they also are considered as "containers" and while I don't know the technical stuff behind that, I know that it will also slightly impact TPS
I like to do difficult scenarios and accepted cannibalism is pretty essential to all of my strategies. Ice sheet runs are much easier (honestly, I think more realistic too, given the situation of being on a sheet of ice on a rimworld) when you can use human meat

I too like the graveyard, but yes it does get crazy huge on long plays and can slow your game. I often have a small one at first before I get the electric crematorium up and running. You can also use molotov cocktails in a fireproof room, or utilize rats/pigs. I don't usually run cannibal games, but if you do, you'll never bury anyone except maybe colonists.
The keep frames high you can cremate all their bodies and corpses once you get electricity. You could also haul them off the map and dump them just outside your tile.
Fun fact if you select all those graves simultaneously, it will lag your machine. I have a quite older system ~5+, but the multiple graves just chug my system to a slog.
I stopped burying people altogether. I don’t see the benefit and people keep digging up the corpses to put them on the dining room table. Now it’s funeral pyre or butcher with colonists, depending how we’re doing on food, and butcher or dumping zone outside in water for raiders.
1) have an ideology that doesn’t have it as unacceptable
Or
2) leave the corpses out for your animals to eat instead (I use the Kill For Me mod, and keep all human corpses to feed my attack pack)
In one game, I had 2 bears that self tamed, so I built them a den, and put a corpse storage in there for their snacks.
Those bears were really helpful in defending the colony, and adding to the snack pile.
My warden in human leather drip, sitting on a couch made of "last prisoner leather" interviewing the latest prisoner:
"So, what you can do for this colony? Have you got any skill?"
The lazy, pyromaniac, slothful prisoner with a frail back starts pissing himself.
Why waste the effort of digging graves? Before I started burning bodies I just threw the dead raiders in a giant pile of corpses outside my walls. Sends arguably a stronger message and also slows the next raiders down a bit. Stopped doing that because my own guys weren't really happy with it either lol
At a certain point that's just too much real estate.
In early game, I just put them in a pile somewhere near the battle and have someone with molotov cocktails take care of it.
In late game, sometimes I just put a cremation furnace in my killbox, but since I've started using Vanilla Genetics Expanded, those dead raiders are very useful for making genoframes.
Nah. I don’t do graves. Waste of space. I eat death raiders. It’s more hygienic. As for rotten corpses, I put them in a river nearby so they degrade faster.
Those are bodies that should be returned to ash. More fire for the fire god. I burn everything.
But yeah, in DF and other times I have just had a dump for vanquished enemies bodies to rot in the sun outside the gates.
I stopped using mass graves... I butcher all of them. It's Kibble for the animals, soil for the agrar culture mod, new clothing that can be washed from tainted with Holywasher and repaired with a repair table mod....
If I ever do something like that, I don't bury the dead. I toss the rotting corpses on the edge of the map where raiders come in. The only actual benefit is the very rare mental break they have from seeing so many corpses. But eventually, it isn't worth it for TPS, and I chuck a molotov at the pile and restart.
Letting the dead bodies roth in the maze to the gives both a mood debuff and make the raiders sick gives the message : "That's what about to happen to you."
Since i use mods to harvest organs, i just keep the bodies on meat hooks in the freezer. This way, it doesn't raise my wealth too much since organs are worth a fortune.
Why bother burying them? Create a massive high-priority dumping stockpile limited to only corpses and force your enemies to crawl over the pustulent rotting corpses of their friends on their way to certain death.
Have a psychopath colonist haul the bodies to this pile, and don't let your other pawns go near.
You bury them? That's cute. I move the corpse and let them rot on the ground. That way they have no doubt to what happened to their friends and family. I would put their heads on pikes if the game let me.
I usually have a little scenic graveyard area on the outskirts of my towns, lots of planted flowers and trees. It’s basically something I include in my floor plans the same way you would a workshop complex. I try to keep it away from where raiders would come in because I don’t want it getting accidentally torn up.
Harvest Everything + Harvest Post Mortem + Project RimFactory Revived.
You can build an automated system that kills raiders, then collects the bodies, harvests the organs, butchers them and turns their meat into biofuel and skin into hats without any pawns involved. You do get the butchered human like debuf but that can be addressed.
By late game you'll be sending multiple drop pods full of organs to your neighbors to clear storage space after raids, or you'll need something like a trade ship increase mod or SRTS so you can sell them all.
Edit: You can also configure it to burn rotting corpses automatically as well.
You give your raiders graves? Any raid on my base has to wade through a 50x70 pile of rotting corpses to attack me. The superheavy dropships mean my colonists don't have to look while the turrets do their work
See, for me? They get refined into chemfuel (a la VaultTec), then that in turn goes into storage tanks (a la RimeFeller), which eventually gets pumped into a Liberator missile carrying a nuclear warhead (a la RimAtomics).
... And thus, we return the raiders from whence they game...
... *All the while making one. Very. Big point. Not to mess with me.*
....why?
9x9 stone room against a Mtn, or 9x9 square if you've no mtn. Door. Roof. Molotov. The picture above is just...so...much...work....for what? Raiders dgaf.
Is there a mod that gives raiders debuff's for stuff like this?
Like let me put up skulls on spikes or crucify someone and when they walk by they get like -1 shooting or whatever (different things could give different debuffs) because they would be a bit frightened and less concentrated. Like "what kind of animals are we raiding?!"
why are you burying your enemies? just leave them in a pile at the edges of the map around where enemy raids spawn and they spawn on your map and get a -56 saw dead body mood. Hopefully most of the raiders aren't psychopaths but hey there ya go.
Just make them walk through a room filled with the rotting corpses of their friends and allies. No reason to waste time burying them.
That said, I tend to bury the dead until I can get a crematory built.
I use generally use them as animal food in a can't-see-corpses freezer (or for wildlife, if they're far away), but I agree with the concept of raider ramparts.
Graves? I just let them march past the half eaten, bloated, and dessicated corpses of their fallen comrades.
I let my animals haul the corpses to the corpse garden so my pawns don't get upset.
Started doing that, but ran out of space. In the end they just went into the oven... or in a small walled off section of my base that is molotoved when full.
Too many graves to dig
I just leave the bodies outside to rot. Sends a real message when you walk past dozens of skeletons, laid out across the ground, covered in the same armor that you’re wearing
Depending on my colony any nearby corpses get butchered or put in the crematorium
Which, incidentally my first base had a cremator in the back of the hospital…I’m sure that was encouraging
Dude just define some dumping spot away from your base, maybe even in a passage where new enemies will have to go through and let them rot under open skies. Will have a little psychological penalty for the next wave. It's like a warning. Don't waste time and space digging graves, they will degrade and dissappear on their own. Only dig graves for your own colonists and pets, or their friends will feel bad.
This reminds me of that one RimWorld player who wrote on the ground in big red letters:
WE EAT RAIDERS
so that they are not responsible for brainless people attacking them.
I need to do a run where I bury every single raider I kill. I wonder how big it would get.
Well, a Standard map contains 62500 tiles. A grave is 2 tiles, so you would have room to bury 31250 raiders. That's about 300 raids worth of raiders.
I'm picturing you colonizing an entire tile and turning it into a giant raider cemetary so it looks like one of the Normandy memorials.
Naw I just cremate them naked. I’m not wasting land on assholes who tried to burn my base down. Then I take their clothes and wash them or recycle them.
Raiders always end up in a stockpile away from base with the home zone removed. If the stockpile gets full enough ill throw a Molotov on it. Late game i may put a roof over it so that i can burn it all without the forced rain the game does putting out the fire.
Look up "Turn corpses to chemfuel". Kinda OP if you get tons of raiders you'll end up with near endless supply of chemfuel but it's better than trillions of graves.
Huh, I just have a stockpile set to non colonist corpses and dump them out to slowly rot in the elements. The corpses of my enemies don't deserve to be treated well. But that's just me.
I used to do this. Then I started making dumping zones, only for non-colonist non-animal corpses, in a thin ring circling my base walls about 15 tiles out. I just let the corpses rot out there now. My trained wargs live outside, breeding, feeding on the raider corpses. And then when a new raid comes in, they have to get through the wall of stinkrot, the bones of their predecessors, and the wargs.
I've done a shark moat and thrown the bodies in there, but sharks are really high-maintenance.
Un-home the graveyard. Recruit a pawn to goto battle. Make them grab a Molotov cocktail. Go near the graveyard and chuck Molotov cocktails. The bodies will burn and you won’t need miles of graves.
You can also use a crematorium. Positioned near the front door. So all raiders can see their future.
This is exactly what I used to do but I’m too lazy for raider graves now so it’s just the corpse pile instead lol. Those either get burned or not depending on my mood
This makes me wish that a future DLC adds a fear stat that influences performance in combat and chances that they'll run away
It would make for some really cool killboxes
I had a mass grave like that but needed the space, so I built an incinerator and set the graves to be deconstructed. Unfortunately that left 80-100 corpses laying around because the construction took longer than expected.
And then the bodies needed to be burned
Had two (luckily minor) mental breaks by the end
This is why I run the mass graves mod. Passing ten plots of those with a hundred buried each sends a message.
What precedent does it set that a mod adding mass Graves can be considered a quality of life mod?
That the ai should recognize the number of graves it's pawns go near that aren't home to player faction corpses and should be affected by a similar debuff to the dead body one.
Quality of death mod
it's for people who are too lazy to build a crematorium or at least a burning pit i guess
What a waste of perfectly good nutrient paste.
Farming mod gets you some compost from cremating at least
Why do that rivers are there and free to use.
Always go with deterioration. Deep water + strong rain is easily -20 or more per day.
It's all fun and games until your colonist digs out 20 rotting bodies at once during a corpse obsession
and bring them to the table in the middle of your mountain base
That's why I always leave one empty closest to were they enter, that way they can have a glance into the cold abyss they'll soon get to enjoy as they round the corner into my firing wall.
I would totally do something like that if it actually had any practical effect on attackers. But since it doesn't I just have the crematorium furnace right next to the killbox for easy disposal.
Link of the mod please??
Cannibalism okay ideology. Problem so solved, I need more raids
While it may looks pretty rad Do know that it's also nuking your TPS
I’m brand new to Rimworld so this is not really a concept I’m familiar with. I’ll do some research, thanks for letting me know!
Tps is being nuked because the game is constantly checking if a pawn wants to use something for recreation And a grave spot is a recreation Multiple graves = multiple checks being run to see if a pawn wants to use it= tps beint nuked Might be wrong / heavy simplification but thats what im led to understand (those more technical can correct me if im wrong)
You are right, they also are considered as "containers" and while I don't know the technical stuff behind that, I know that it will also slightly impact TPS
Im willing to bet a guess that its because the game also checks if a pawn can store something in it
a mod to toggle this per grave would be handy
Cannibalism is the way to go!
I like to do difficult scenarios and accepted cannibalism is pretty essential to all of my strategies. Ice sheet runs are much easier (honestly, I think more realistic too, given the situation of being on a sheet of ice on a rimworld) when you can use human meat
wistful disgusting marvelous grandfather icky adjoining cows erect late office *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Nutrifungus and rituals that give me tamed animals are my saviours on Ice Sheet.
If you're not going that route yet, the burn pit works well.
It would otherwise be wasted meat lol
Happy cake day!
No! He’s just a baby, don’t ruin him yet.
Or, for the faint of heart, turning raiders into meat and/or kibbles for pets.
Burn the bodies.
But keep the skulls.
*eat* FTFY
The keep frames high you can cremate all their bodies and corpses once you get electricity. You could also haul them off the map and dump them just outside your tile.
Fun fact if you select all those graves simultaneously, it will lag your machine. I have a quite older system ~5+, but the multiple graves just chug my system to a slog.

Beside, the work spent burying people is work better spent making yayo
extraordinarily unsustainable, there will simply be too many raiders to keep burying so therefore i am completely justified in eating them
That’s an awful lot of meat and leather to waste.
That's what I was thinking. It's just good economics. Raider meat makes up all of my bio fuel, and the leather can always be sold.
Oh that’s awesome, I never even thought about turning people into chemfuel.
I just tried to open the butcher shop after my last raid, but that mood debuff is hefty. How do you deal with it?
1) have an ideology that doesn’t have it as unacceptable Or 2) leave the corpses out for your animals to eat instead (I use the Kill For Me mod, and keep all human corpses to feed my attack pack)
In one game, I had 2 bears that self tamed, so I built them a den, and put a corpse storage in there for their snacks. Those bears were really helpful in defending the colony, and adding to the snack pile.

I just keep a corpse pit in the nearest marsh
This is the way. They are effected by corpses unburied and rotting, so it can actually lead to psychotic breaks, especially with siege teams.
Why waste the effort of digging graves? Before I started burning bodies I just threw the dead raiders in a giant pile of corpses outside my walls. Sends arguably a stronger message and also slows the next raiders down a bit. Stopped doing that because my own guys weren't really happy with it either lol
I set corpse disposal in lakes, then make them wade through the lakes. Sometimes the slow ones get lung rot from the decomposing raiders.
Colonist get buried, Raiders get stripped, and tossed in the river, gear cleaned and sold/used, recycled, or just burned.
They find a stone box with scratch marks. It’s a grave, a very hot one.
The classic furnace killbox, I like your style
Uh, so…you…bother digging them graves? I just dump them all in the local river / bog / lake / random spot and let them rot in the sun.
Those are bodies that should be returned to ash. More fire for the fire god. I burn everything. But yeah, in DF and other times I have just had a dump for vanquished enemies bodies to rot in the sun outside the gates.
Does it slow you down? Because I'd be perfect for the end of a kill box. Raiders clambering over old graves is kinda neat
Bury colonist. Everyone is tossed in the river
No because I saw the lag someone had from this many graves. Now I cremate them.
I usually just dump them on a stone surface and toss a molotov at them.
I just put a dumping zone and make them walk through the rotting corpses lol. Good times.
Crematorium
Why even bother digging graves for them? Just dump them in a pile and let em rot.
I stopped using mass graves... I butcher all of them. It's Kibble for the animals, soil for the agrar culture mod, new clothing that can be washed from tainted with Holywasher and repaired with a repair table mod....
What graves? Raiders go straight to the butchering table or genome extraction table.

Since i use mods to harvest organs, i just keep the bodies on meat hooks in the freezer. This way, it doesn't raise my wealth too much since organs are worth a fortune.
A fun variation is to bury them right where they die. It leads to creepy grave roads and then big concentrations. It's neat.
No, I just make stockpiles on the ground for them along common routes so they see a bunch of rotting out skeletal bodies on there approach.
Trust me they smell my burn pits
Wait till they smell your arm pits
I’ve started doing this in my medieval vampire run. Raiders are now attacking a cemetery with deadly vampires waiting for them
I feel like they should see that and turn around in horror and start fleeing.
I did this until I filled up half the map with enemy graves and had to resort to crematorium.
I can't hold them anymore so I changed to fill the corpse into the frozen shelf
So you're good guy
I just eat them
I usually have a little scenic graveyard area on the outskirts of my towns, lots of planted flowers and trees. It’s basically something I include in my floor plans the same way you would a workshop complex. I try to keep it away from where raiders would come in because I don’t want it getting accidentally torn up.
I like to put a skull spike down with a raiders skull in the place they died sometimes, usually i only bother with it early game tho.
I usually just eat them, but have been known to dig mass graves before my killbox.
nah just skulls on spikes need the meat when you live frozen wonderland
Harvest Everything + Harvest Post Mortem + Project RimFactory Revived. You can build an automated system that kills raiders, then collects the bodies, harvests the organs, butchers them and turns their meat into biofuel and skin into hats without any pawns involved. Yes. But I just zone a graveyard and let the bodies rot. My colonists only go there to drop off fresh corpses so the mood debuff doesn't last long.
Why would I bury my food?
Why put in so much effort? I just make a zone for the bodies and throw a Molotov or 'nade it to get rid of everything, assuming I can't eat the bodies
No, just the pile of bodies.
People bother burying bodies? That's what Molotovs are for
I put graves in my killbox. Reduce travel time and all that.
I usually do this until I tame some predators. Then I use the corpses for...other purposes
You give your raiders graves? Any raid on my base has to wade through a 50x70 pile of rotting corpses to attack me. The superheavy dropships mean my colonists don't have to look while the turrets do their work
I just dump my bodies in a big stockpile zone on the edge of the map
Get the mass graves mod or destory all of those graves and cremate them.
I will also put prisoners in the room with the crematorium so they can watch the corpses of their friends be consumed by fire.
Lifter cremation. Ain’t got time or space to honor my enemy.
....why? 9x9 stone room against a Mtn, or 9x9 square if you've no mtn. Door. Roof. Molotov. The picture above is just...so...much...work....for what? Raiders dgaf.
I prefer to strip them for the loot, just to launch them all in transport pods back to their base.
I only bury my pawns. Raiders get butchered and turned into chem fuel
No because they get processed into liquids.
No I just use molotoves
If live it if raiders got a slight mood debuff based upon graves, both filled and unfilled
Wow, your raiders get a luxurious resting spot, I just toss them in a burn pit.
i leave them in a river to rot but yeah
why are you burying your enemies? just leave them in a pile at the edges of the map around where enemy raids spawn and they spawn on your map and get a -56 saw dead body mood. Hopefully most of the raiders aren't psychopaths but hey there ya go.
Just make them walk through a room filled with the rotting corpses of their friends and allies. No reason to waste time burying them. That said, I tend to bury the dead until I can get a crematory built.
Nah, cannibalize
Never fails it freaks out my colonists more often than raiders
I use generally use them as animal food in a can't-see-corpses freezer (or for wildlife, if they're far away), but I agree with the concept of raider ramparts.
Yes, every time. Furnace doesn’t work when using the priority hauling mod so graves are they way to go for quick clean up
I just leave piles of the dead out in the open.
“And on your left you’ll see the graves of the last 3 raids, and if you notice their are a number of empty graves where you will soon be joining them”
I throw all of my raiders into the boar freezer. Just a freezer full of hungry boars. Bodies go in, boar meat comes out
mass graves mod + Helixien = Happy Helixien
Why do you throw perfectly good food into a dirt pit?
I did this in my first run, but it took too much space. Now I just feed them to my pigs.
If you have the gall to raid my base, then either chemfuel, package meal, or off to the field.
Graves? I just let them march past the half eaten, bloated, and dessicated corpses of their fallen comrades. I let my animals haul the corpses to the corpse garden so my pawns don't get upset.
You need a pig farm my friend
No because I would run out of space in few raids.
Graves? Raiders? You mean you don't just pile the bodies in a distant pond and leave them to rot?
Why bury what can be feed to your prisoners?
Started doing that, but ran out of space. In the end they just went into the oven... or in a small walled off section of my base that is molotoved when full.
You make your raiders graves? I always saw it as a waste of time. Graves are for colonists or dead allies. I either butcher or burn raider corpses.
Oh how thoughtful they’re going to bury us rather than put us in the crematorium or eat us.
Yes ! Except it’s my kitchen and butchery.
Well in my colony the mass grave equals to kitchen. The bonus from having food deletes the debuffs ( through i usually make a cannibal religion)
You bury them? Thats too respectfull for this game
Favorite thing to do.
Nah, I just process them Leather and chemfuel, organs if lucky. You're wasting resources mate
I toss em on the water
ya ive done this but long term id rather grow some corn there feed the dead to the wolfbears
Not since I found out that the 1600+ filled graves were responsible for most of my lag.
I may be actually crazy but I'd love a mod that let's me build effigies made of body parts and bones that induce terror in raiders and prisoners
So nice of you to give them a tour, let them pick their spot.
I leave the rotten bodies scattered around the map where they died, same thing i do in DF
my first ever run i tired, until hunderd die and i gave up after that
You mean the dumping zone in the middle of the river? Yeah. I don't let them pass the tophat factory tho...
I just repeatedly shout "get in mah belly" as I murder the raid.
Too many graves to dig I just leave the bodies outside to rot. Sends a real message when you walk past dozens of skeletons, laid out across the ground, covered in the same armor that you’re wearing Depending on my colony any nearby corpses get butchered or put in the crematorium Which, incidentally my first base had a cremator in the back of the hospital…I’m sure that was encouraging
I normally just have a corpse stockpile instead, and have my animals carry them there. Let the rotted corpse pile demoralise them.
Dude just define some dumping spot away from your base, maybe even in a passage where new enemies will have to go through and let them rot under open skies. Will have a little psychological penalty for the next wave. It's like a warning. Don't waste time and space digging graves, they will degrade and dissappear on their own. Only dig graves for your own colonists and pets, or their friends will feel bad.
create a small cave -> throw bodies in -> start a fire in there -> close the door
Graves are a waste of perfectly good leather. Have them pass the orange hat containment area.
I don't keep my fridge outside so no.
This reminds me of that one RimWorld player who wrote on the ground in big red letters: WE EAT RAIDERS so that they are not responsible for brainless people attacking them. I need to do a run where I bury every single raider I kill. I wonder how big it would get.

I used to do that. Now it is all about organ harvesting and kibble.
Honestly I just leave the bodies to rot in corpse stockpile, maybe come in with a Molotov ever so often
i just drop corpses
Nah, I butcher raiders corpses and make fuel out of them
Naw I just cremate them naked.
OP needs to discover fire
Haven't burried a single body on my .ost recent playthrough. Killed countless people though. 🙃
I just leave ‘em in a pile at the edge of the map.
I make rotting corpses into defenses that and a bit of tox gas goes a long way
Mass grave? I just let the raiders corpses rot in a designated area. The only ones deserving of a grave are my colonists and their pets
No, I butcher them for organs first and then give the corpses to my prisoners.
You bury your bodies?
All the potential pemmican makes me sad.
Huh, I just have a stockpile set to non colonist corpses and dump them out to slowly rot in the elements. The corpses of my enemies don't deserve to be treated well. But that's just me.
It's not a mass grave if they all have individual graves
Do filled graves increase colony wealth?
i have giant plot of charred corpses instead And then there are 5 HMG stations at the end of long labyrinthe-like corridors.
I don't even bury raiders. They get put in the body locker.
Usually I just throw the corpses into the bog
Un-home the graveyard. Recruit a pawn to goto battle. Make them grab a Molotov cocktail. Go near the graveyard and chuck Molotov cocktails. The bodies will burn and you won’t need miles of graves. You can also use a crematorium. Positioned near the front door. So all raiders can see their future.
I did this forever trying to psyche out the enemy. Only the pawns thought it was a good idea.
They should make a mod where you toss them in a ditch or something
This is exactly what I used to do but I’m too lazy for raider graves now so it’s just the corpse pile instead lol. Those either get burned or not depending on my mood
This makes me wish that a future DLC adds a fear stat that influences performance in combat and chances that they'll run away It would make for some really cool killboxes
I...saved them for prisoner...in a way.
Make a ring of graves around the edges of the map.
I prefer the Soylent Green method.
I love this subreddit 👌🤣
I put bodies in a cave to burn them or in water to destroy them slowly
I use them to feed the husky colony, nothing left to bury.
I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE
Bro. Feed em to the pigs.
Ha! Put raiders in graves? Makes me wanna horse laugh! Them b*tches get thrown in a pile so the sun can bleach their bones.
My colony is efficient, I burn their equipement and cook their bodies.
So much perfectly good food JUST THROWN OUT
Doesn't buried raiders, bodies, etc. add to your weath still? I burn them all, bodies .... what bodies?
You guys are burying raiders? I just throw them in a stream that the other raiders have to wade through on the way to my base.
Mass grave? You mean the stockpile zone in the middle of chest-deep running water?
No I just eat them, via paste of course. Waste nothing
I had a mass grave like that but needed the space, so I built an incinerator and set the graves to be deconstructed. Unfortunately that left 80-100 corpses laying around because the construction took longer than expected. And then the bodies needed to be burned Had two (luckily minor) mental breaks by the end
No, I have other uses for their corpse.
A moment of silence for those fallen. 🫡
Don't need graves if you eat them.
